does it have the htc desire setting on it or do you have to put in your own custom resolution and settings?
Just downloaded a HTC Converter from here http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/htc/download/ trying it now.
Ohhh and its FREE

Try handbrake, doesn't violate the GPL unlike videora

most RMVB or MKV are about 350-400 mb, but for that you'd need to use RockPlayer to run the file
hope this helps! good Luck!

Is there a better way to Play Videos on Dash
I tried alot of different movies and music videos but they don't show to good.. So I was wondering is there anyway to get movie or videos playing better on the Dash?? Is there a app or something I could use to play movies better?? I mean I tried .wmv, .avi, .3gp and none of they all played pretty lousy...
Besides TCPMP because I tried installing it and it said "Unsuccessful because it wasn't made for my phone" and I don't know if it was because I used the wrong one or what..
Thanks In Advance...

Try istalling the TCPMP/Player in my YouYube WizzStar thread, the download is located in post # 1, that one is beefed up a little and should give you very good video resolution quality. Install it too your SD card. It will work on the Dash, I know that already! Let me know how things work out for you.......!

.mp4 is the best to use to recode good quality films for dash @ 320 x 240, just keep the bitrate low, mono sound about 92kbps will keep the size down.
You can use SUPER © http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html it's free.
I use A-One FLV to AVI as i use it for YouTube but will encode any file to .mp4.
Consider using 3gp format. The quality is good and the file size is small. There are a number of 3gp converters available.
thanks
im interested in quality and speed not the mb
thanks guys
well. i converted a video with that program "super" to mp4 and it works very crapy and slow

The MB will play a big factor in quality as the larger the file the harder it is for the Dash to read the ammount of data to frames.
Anyway .mp4 is the best mobile codec.
320 x 240
Lower the bitrate and keep the fps the same as original source.
Already commented on sound.
Oc'in your device will also help with playback and having a good media player on Dash?

Well don't use a frog but TCPMP will do it, you will want your vid's in .mp4 to which there is loads of software available for mobile conversion online Super © is a free one.
The trick is to keep the file size down you can do this via mono sound as the speaker on phone is mono and keep the bitrate down and also keeping the bitrate down on the video.
Hope this helps it is covered in other threadz on here.
there is an alternative , divx mobile . http://www.divx.com/mobile/requirements.php
average size when using divx converter for a full length movie is ~ 200 - 250 mb.
using it on my htc s621 , flashed with kavana's 6.1 rom .

Watch video on Desire

Guys - what is the easiest way to convert DVDs to watch on Desire? Is there any good free tools out there and what format/settings should be used for best pic?
I got the AnyVideoConverter, but as far as I can see it only does in 640x480 format... please advice a newbie! Thanks!
HTC Touch HD Video Convertor v1.2 allows you to covert output res of 800x480, i haven't tried it yet but I already read someone tried it and work great for HTC desire.
Is conversion necessary? Can the Desire play .vob files right out of the box or with some app? That is, unless space is a major concern...
(I don't actually know the answers to those questions, mind. Just wondering.)
I was wondering the same thing. Any links to the best software for converting?
MP4 For HD works perfect and it's really fast. You can find it here:

Doesn't appear too, was rumoured the phone would be updated to support it though.
Personally i use badaboom, GPU encoding is much better then CPU. Doesnt do 800x480 but 720x480 is good enough.

movies on evo

Can anyone recommend a good dvd ripping app so that I can rip movies and convert them to watch on my evo... i can convert them using doubletwist, but I need something to rip them... don't know of a reliable freeware app
you'd think someone that's posted almost 500 times would know about the search tool...
or maybe, that's why you've posted so often.
try handbrake. works like a charm. google it, or look around here. plenty of threads about it already
the best app i've discovered for PC is DVDDecrypter. it works perfectly. allows you to select by chapters, or the whole DVD. good stuff!

4.36 gigs. that is from bd rip from my own bd disc. i use adobe cs4 converter to convert. dropped it on there and although it is a huge file, i am utterly impressed at the quality. stays constant audio and video sync and never drops framerate. blacks are amazing not inky at all and colors are very very vibrant.
but anyways if you are just going to view one movie every once in awhile like i do i recommend dropping 720p onto it. its easy and amazing

doubletwist
Doubletwist
Doubletwist is nice, for music and apps. But it rips movies 640 x 320 too small for the screen. There are no preferences I can find the change that. I am on a MAC and I have had great success converting my .AVI files with FFMPEG and the Mp4 presets. THe movies are about 800 megs and look great.
if anyone knows of a good app for converting mkv to mp4 id be interested i ripped all of Battlestar Galactica straight from Bluray disc source its in AVCHD format but i have mkv copies of whole series i could use if i could find easy way to transcode it losslessly or play it in mkv on android looking for a like VLC type video player for android
this is gonna sound weird, but AirVideo server for iPad(it streams videos to the iPad) it's the only app i've tried so far that will convert MKV with little to no quality loss. best part, it's free. just a suggestion.

Just a quick note... Unless you are playing the movie through hdmi on a 720p display, why would you be encoding 720p movies for a phone with a 800x480 display? 4.3gb sounds like a lot of wasted space for all those extra unused pixels.
For everyone else, handbrake is the free simple alternative. And for people that care to learn a few command line options, ffmpeg is fantastic. I get much smaller better looking files from the open source x264 compiled ffmpeg. But, configured correctly, handbrake can be a front end for ffmpeg anyway.
Download Daniusoft DVD Ripper.
It searches for your phone, connects, converts the movie and places it on your sd card in the correct folder. All by itself.

Also consider the wall I hit when I first tried ripping--I ripped the DVD at 800x480 with all the correct settings, but when I tried to throw it up on my HDTV via the HDMI output, my TV would not recognize the non-standard size.
So you have a choice: 1) rip to 720p if you are going to output via HDMI or 2) rip to 800x480 if you are ONLY going to view the movie on the phone.

Do 720p mkv files work flawlessly without re-encoding?

Hi everyone,
I first got to say that I have not yet purchased GalaxyNexus. However I have a big concern in regards to 720p HD video files from the net. I realized this on my Galaxy Tab10.1 after I bought it that most HD files need to be re-encoded in order to run without lag or being choppy. I was very disappointed with that.
Would someone tell me how is the performance of mkv files on GalaxyNexus.
Thanks.

Yes, use MX Player from the market, it can run just about anything smoothly
Or try dice player, only problem is its not allowing me to buy full version after 3 days trial has ran out, anyone know a way around that?

heck it plays 1080p mkvs flawlessly. I have a 11gb mkv of Drive that sits on my phone just to show off. Now to get that MHL adapter.

Whether it plays depends on a lot of things. The video format, (MKV is just a container), the audio format and most importantly the bitrate. A lot of desktop PCs will chunder along if the bitrate is too high for it's hardware to handle, so a phone will struggle even more.
The bottleneck seems to be the speed of the internal storage, for me. It plays stuff flawlessly, but if I play a 1080p file with a super high bitrate, it's all choppy.

The problem is the dev's actually. The account he was using to receive payment for the full version got suspended (for whatever reason), and due to that he isn't able to continue selling the full version anymore. If you were an early adopter (like I was, due to having a Asus Transformer), it's a non-issue because you already bought it. I'm not sure why the dev is taking forever to fix the issue.
EDIT:And on that note, I also must say that all MKV files I have downloaded work perfectly fine on my nexus using diceplayer. Both 720P and 1080P (only tried 1, just to see if it worked, since it is rather pointless unless you're outputting to a TV) work just fine and without any issues for me. I haven't tried any strangely encoded files yet, but so far all normal HDTV encoded files worked just fine.

It's smooth once it get's hardware decoded.
No smartphone processor can decode 1080p without lag, which is exactly why OMAP put an IVA-HD chip inside to do all the work.
Much like the rest of the members I use dice player and it plays everything i throw at it. I use to have an issue with 12mbps MP4 files but they seem to have corrected that and now it is smooth for everything i throw at it.
is there a place to buy the full version or obtain one by other cough cough means?
