Is there a better way to Play Videos on Dash
I tried alot of different movies and music videos but they don't show to good.. So I was wondering is there anyway to get movie or videos playing better on the Dash?? Is there a app or something I could use to play movies better?? I mean I tried .wmv, .avi, .3gp and none of they all played pretty lousy...
Besides TCPMP because I tried installing it and it said "Unsuccessful because it wasn't made for my phone" and I don't know if it was because I used the wrong one or what..
Thanks In Advance...

Try istalling the TCPMP/Player in my YouYube WizzStar thread, the download is located in post # 1, that one is beefed up a little and should give you very good video resolution quality. Install it too your SD card. It will work on the Dash, I know that already! Let me know how things work out for you.......!

.mp4 is the best to use to recode good quality films for dash @ 320 x 240, just keep the bitrate low, mono sound about 92kbps will keep the size down.
You can use SUPER © http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html it's free.
I use A-One FLV to AVI as i use it for YouTube but will encode any file to .mp4.
Consider using 3gp format. The quality is good and the file size is small. There are a number of 3gp converters available.
thanks
im interested in quality and speed not the mb
thanks guys
well. i converted a video with that program "super" to mp4 and it works very crapy and slow
can somewone please tell me exact the format file, video format, sound format, rezolution exactly for the videos to convert ?

The MB will play a big factor in quality as the larger the file the harder it is for the Dash to read the ammount of data to frames.
Anyway .mp4 is the best mobile codec.
320 x 240
Lower the bitrate and keep the fps the same as original source.
Already commented on sound.
Oc'in your device will also help with playback and having a good media player on Dash?

Well don't use a frog but TCPMP will do it, you will want your vid's in .mp4 to which there is loads of software available for mobile conversion online Super © is a free one.
The trick is to keep the file size down you can do this via mono sound as the speaker on phone is mono and keep the bitrate down and also keeping the bitrate down on the video.
Hope this helps it is covered in other threadz on here.
there is an alternative , divx mobile . http://www.divx.com/mobile/requirements.php
average size when using divx converter for a full length movie is ~ 200 - 250 mb.
using it on my htc s621 , flashed with kavana's 6.1 rom .

i've got a P3300 with original rom WM6. and a sandisk 1GB SD.
i use TCPMP or WMP and i'd like to encode videos to enjoy watching them while traveling.
so far i've tried different encode programs, FPS, audio tracks, etc and i get always a bad result like audio/video desync, low video quality, not smooth video, mettalic sound, you take the pick, i've got it all except a nice video
so, what would be the best program to ENCODE and what options?
and which would be the best one to reproduce and what options? coz TCPMP has loads of options, so many i get lost in them. i tried a lot, but didn't get better results (different, but not better) so i guess the encoding part on my PC is also to blame.
any suggestions, links, faqs or whatever you could help me a bit? thx.
I use WinAvi to convert my movies to wmv, using the
Local Area Network 384kbps, get movies at around 200-300Mbytes.. looks and sound ok to me.. I use WMP to play the movies... on my wizard
I'm using the Power-Tool Canopus Procoder to encode the videos in DivX Format with 240 x 320 pixel.
the videos looking good and have a small size.

mine play perfect with no skips but im not ripping them from dvd. what i do is take divx (avi) files from dvd rips that i *cough* acquire *cough* from...places..anyway.. i take those files and use pocket divx encoder (which is free) and i shrink them down to pda size. i select xvid and i bump the frame rate to 30.000. you can adjust the sound and picture quality depending on how small you want the file to be. they all play perfect and a 700mb file usually ends up being about 250mb - 300mb
what player are you using?
if you are trying to download flash files from like youtube or something....i use that same software to convert them too. just seems to make it smoother.
also a lot of us overclock to the phone to make things a bit smoother overall

worked pefectly
I read many threads in the forum regarding video on the HD and after hours spent trailing through a post which is now locked I settled on SUPER encoding to flash FLV files... only problem is if I feed it a 1.4gb H264 file (which the HD cant play) it ends up at 2.6Gb I still run the stock SD card 8Gb.
Am I missing a setting? I really wanna sort the video out on my HD! but would like the movies to stay similar size to the original rip....

Yep treid that one too... the files always end up waaaaay bigger than the orginal... I tried a 4Gb BRrip with that and it came out almost the size of the flash card....
Then you selected the wrong bitrate.
Assuming your movie is 90 minutes long, then using the "HD" setting bitrate of 750kbit/s your movie will be (750*60*90)/8/1024 = 494 MB.
What you are stating is not possible, unless your movie is 10 hours long or you manually entered an insanely high bitrate, such as 7500kbit/s, which is completely useless and which the Touch HD can not handle anyway.
The tool is coded for simplicity. If you don't understand what anything does, then you just add the files, select the output dir and press "start". Experimenting around by setting random options which you do not fully understand obviously will result in spectacular failure most of the time. So I recommend you to try it again. If it doesn't work, then let me know and I will fix it.
All this said, if you rather not use my GUI, then you can get an acceptable result with SUPER by using iPhone profile. The quality will be worse, seeking might be broken and it might slow down sometimes, but other than that, it should work.
I used a Blue Ray rip.... 4.5Gig..... it ended up at almost 6Gig....
I used the HD GUI you made because it was so easy.... just remoting into my server to see how the next one I'm trying is getting on.....
Have you tried using WinFF ~ http://winff.org/html/
I used to use SUPER but changed to WinFF because:-
1. It is quicker.
2. File sizes are smaller.
3. It is very easy to use.
4. It supports a number of devices including Mobile Phones, iPod etc.
Thanks Beards, I'll give it a go to...
I have got a file out of the encoder now that looks good!
But what the heck do I play it with...? I searched for media players and tried Core player and of course M$ Media Player... both are a no go... M$ wont even play it... and Core player with no access to GPU is also a no go...
Any players take advantage of GPU acceleration and play the outputs?

Ahhh... not got round to using that one yet... I was using the HD GUI made by projection, 4.5gb Blue ray rip source, 800x480 output.

atm the only hw accelerated players are htc album and wmp... the rest is software render...
another option to watch Movies "DivX Mobile Player v0.91 (30-Sep-2008)"
You can install "DivX Mobile Player v0.91 (30-Sep-2008)" and play those .avi movies (DivX, Xvid, etc) without converting. You can download here: http://labs.divx.com/MobileCommunity

Dude, just skim along the TF3D menu to Photos and Videos.
If your video's in the default album it will appear as a thumbnail here if it isn't just use the Album button to browse to it.
Basically the HTC player they're on about i launched when you click on a thumbnail in the TF3D Photo's and Video's screen (or browse to an album location).
Yup - it was there all the time
Thanks mate... I understand now...
I guess MP4 isnt supported.... my movies arent there...
I tried putting a small video clip on my memory card. When I open it it plays like it's in slow motion, and it's really choppy. The audio for the clip plays in normal speed.
so a few questions...
Is there a best format of video files for my excalibur?
Is there mabey a player better than windows media player?
I hacked my psp a few years back. I was able to download full movies and watch them on it. I may be asking too much... but I'm wondering if it's possible to do this with my phone.
when I'm at work with my phone in my hand the ol' boss doesn't mind. Of course when I'm hanging on to a game system.... the **** hit's the fan!
Here you are a free bit of software that can recode videos http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html download link @ bottom there is lot's of speal...
I use A-One FLV to AVI but it's not free, there is alot of software that can do it.
I recomended SUPER as i know lots of peeps use it, so set the resolution 320x240 keep bitrate down on video larger it is larger output file, audio can be set to mono and again about 64kbit/s and still be fine, .mp4 is a good quality for Mobile video or for even more compression .3gp

Try VLC Media Player you will want codecs CCCP is XP & Vista compatable "if you have any other codec packs installed then do not install"
well i actually wanted to start a mobile movie thread
like..i will be encodeing movies for mobiles..which will play without a hitch...and patches...
and uploading them on rapidshare or megaupload..
sooo what say??
what happens if you run out of battery in the middle of a movie, can you fastforward it afterwards and in an "easy" way? If it's possible, it depends on the video format, video player or both?
Hi everyone,
I first got to say that I have not yet purchased GalaxyNexus. However I have a big concern in regards to 720p HD video files from the net. I realized this on my Galaxy Tab10.1 after I bought it that most HD files need to be re-encoded in order to run without lag or being choppy. I was very disappointed with that.
Would someone tell me how is the performance of mkv files on GalaxyNexus.
Thanks.

Yes, use MX Player from the market, it can run just about anything smoothly
Or try dice player, only problem is its not allowing me to buy full version after 3 days trial has ran out, anyone know a way around that?

Whether it plays depends on a lot of things. The video format, (MKV is just a container), the audio format and most importantly the bitrate. A lot of desktop PCs will chunder along if the bitrate is too high for it's hardware to handle, so a phone will struggle even more.
The bottleneck seems to be the speed of the internal storage, for me. It plays stuff flawlessly, but if I play a 1080p file with a super high bitrate, it's all choppy.

The problem is the dev's actually. The account he was using to receive payment for the full version got suspended (for whatever reason), and due to that he isn't able to continue selling the full version anymore. If you were an early adopter (like I was, due to having a Asus Transformer), it's a non-issue because you already bought it. I'm not sure why the dev is taking forever to fix the issue.
EDIT:And on that note, I also must say that all MKV files I have downloaded work perfectly fine on my nexus using diceplayer. Both 720P and 1080P (only tried 1, just to see if it worked, since it is rather pointless unless you're outputting to a TV) work just fine and without any issues for me. I haven't tried any strangely encoded files yet, but so far all normal HDTV encoded files worked just fine.

It's smooth once it get's hardware decoded.
No smartphone processor can decode 1080p without lag, which is exactly why OMAP put an IVA-HD chip inside to do all the work.
Much like the rest of the members I use dice player and it plays everything i throw at it. I use to have an issue with 12mbps MP4 files but they seem to have corrected that and now it is smooth for everything i throw at it.
is there a place to buy the full version or obtain one by other cough cough means?
