Alright guys,
I tried the Universal AndRoot with no luck.
This is a CDMA phone, so it looks like the GSM fixes are not working.
Post fixes here and I will try them. I am idling #droideris as well.
Lets do this!
Did you try unrevoked already? I think a few have and said it wouldn't work. Mr. X on PPCGeeks made a modified RUU but I'm not sure if it will work. You'd have to PM him to try it.
Thread Moved in Desire General.

Yes, I tried Unrevoked this morning and it said it was unsupported. Not sure where to go from here. I am going to mess with androot some more.
Anyone have suggestions?
EDIT: I tried running androot again, but when it got to "rooting" the phone restarted and went back to normal.
Someone has made some progress in rooting. Not sure if he needs some help but here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769312
the cdma desire has been rooted, custom recovery and soff Unrevoked will be supporting it in their next release
Thanks for the update blitz, I have been working on it for a week now and haven't gotten very far - my exploit (similar to the EPIC) would return to # instead of $
Glad someone got it though!
This is exciting to hear someone is working on it. I just switched Sunday to USC from tmobile using a N1 that was rooted. Couldn't handle their crappy network any longer.
ok i was able to root a htc desire running froyo with s off. here is how i did it. i went to revolutionary.io its super complicated! but it works. i now have a htc desire cdma running hboot 1.06 that was said to be unrootable. if you have questions i am willing to help but i dont know how to get notifications of when people post on here. you have to email me at [email protected] that comes straight to my phone so i will get back to you as soon as i can. i tried for months to root. then pinpoint from unrevoked helped me so to pay back for all i have gotten from others i am willing to try to help you get rooted.... happy rooting

I'm sending my Incredible back to Verizon for a new Inc. but I'm rooted with the new update. Want should I do so they don't know I rooted this phone. OK just check my phone I guest when I did the official update it unrooted me. I' still S-OOF. But I got to go back to original stock before I sent the phone back my phone should get to me in 2 days. So I need to put back 2.1 and S-ON.
Have you done unrevoked forever and turned off the S-off, if so you should probably not send it in.
The best thing you can do is look for the stock 2.0 firmware. Also look on YouTube for a unroot video. I have unrooted and re-rooted this phone so it can be done.

I'm S-OOF right know. So I should go back to S-ON and try to find 2.0 rom. Where can I find the right programs to this before 2 days.
I'll help you out.
It does NOT matter if you send the phone back with 2.1 or 2.2, they don't care.
They care about two things you need to worry about.
turning it back to S-ON
and having the stock recovery.
to achieve this. You MUST be rooted to do S-OFF or S-ON, so first off get rooted if your not. Then visit unrevoked
the unrevoked3 is for root, unrevoked forever is S-ON, S-OFF.
once you are rooted, follow the instructions to turn it back to S-ON. **(the same exact way you turned it to S-OFF, but using the new S-ON file.)**
Once this is completed now you will have S-ON, but you are still rooted, and have the ClockworkMod recovery. You need to un-root by downgrading using the 2.1 OR 2.2 RUU. your pick and like mentioned above. don't matteh. This will get you to have the stock recovery, and S-ON. Go in that order. Hope you get it. Peace.
If your S-OFF then you are screwed. There is no way to turn it back on. You are SOL man. You can always restore it to factory but the S-OFF will ALWAYS remain

Also your phone has all the programs you need. You just news to put them all in the root of your SD card and reboot into hboot

Unless there has been a break though in getting HTC's and Verizon's super secret security code then I doubt it. The reason its called unrevoked forever is because there is no way to turn it back on. Check other posts in the xda to prove my point. If you return a S-off phone you will void the return and have to pay full price for the new one.

FYI unrevoked forever 1.1 was released last week allowing us to return to s-on.
Also, the reason its called forever is because it forever allows our phones to truly be ours, unlocked and how it should be.

Assuming that to be true why would unrEVoked be offering a package called unrevoked-forever-son?
They SPECIFICALLY provide it in case you need to go BACK TO S-ON....
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
A: Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update

Download S-ON file from unrEVOked's website and run that so that you get S-ON back onto the phone.
Then download either the 2.1 or 2.2 RUU (find them in the Android Development Section) and run that and it will wipe the phone and bring it back to factory state.
If it says your phone is not found when using the RUU, try downloading the HTC Sync software for the Incredible and installing that first. You need the drivers for "MY HTC" on the computer for the RUU to recognize it and HTC Sync will install that for you. I had that issue, but remedied it with the HTC Sync software install first.

Hi
I bought an Evo on Nov 23rd and need to root it for wifi tethering.
I have been researching on the net and found a gazillion sites, videos and links for it, but not sure which one is really applicable in my case.
Also, based on my research on this forum, I found the following thre links that might wor, but not sure which is really applicable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
For your reference, the phone has HBOOT-2.02.0000 with S-on, Android version 2.2 and Software number 3.30.651.3.
Thanks
I was able to soft root my phone using z4root 1.3 (it has a permanent root option also). My wifi tethering app is installed but i am not able to connect to the network using it from my laptop.
I have an open question on the forum still on this so I am not sure this is the way to go but is an option.
Seems like z4root 1.3 does not work with HTC Evo.

Be very careful! I say that from experience. I have an Epic also that was super easy to root. But, I got the EVO the other day and have the same software as yours. Unrevoked root works with all EVO's except ours. And I bricked my EVO on a one-click method. Fortunetely it was so messed up that Sprint can't do anything with it except give me a new phone. I'm gonna leave root alone for awhile with this phone.
You can NOT root version 3.30, and you can NOT root using unrevoked3 if you are running Hboot 2.02
I mean you can root by going back to another version - but i couldnt even begin to tell you how to do all that...

Well, I guess I should ask because someone may know something I dont... is there anyone with a US Cellular Desire who has successfully rooted, using the above method, a 2.2 that did NOT have root with 2.1?
I am in the same boat. It would be awesome to have S-ON also when S-OFF is available. S-ON was never available on the CDMA version of the Desire.
Anyone?? Can anyone help??
I am having the same problem, have looked everywhere and can't find anything.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Same situation here. Need to root my Lady's phone But I upgraded to 2.2 for her before rooting. Tried UnrevoKed to no Avail.. Gold card crap seems like a lot of work and may not work for this. Anyone that could throw us A bone would be GOD!!
P.S.
Anyone that could do a Desire HD Rom Port to Desire CDMA would be Titts!! Thanx in advance!
I am in the same boat as everyone else, can anybody help? When we updated to 2.2 it gave us hboot 1.06 and nothing seems to root that. I'd even be willing to do a gold card to downgrade, but I don't know if that works on CDMA phones. Can't find anything that says one way or the other, does anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance!
Ditto here too. I just want to uninstall all the bloat ware and permanently fix the audio issue with Rhapsody. I could care less about doing the s-off fix, and I would unroot it as soon as I uninstalled all the crap on it. I was going to do the gold card downgrade but it says it won't work on CDMA phones. Ugghhh...
Yeah me to PLEASE!!. THX _Tom
Anyone!????????
Really? 320 views so far and there isn't one person on this forum that is capable of helping us with this?
I am not sure there is much love for cdma phones on only the us cellular network. I hope someone can help us out. I am willing to help anyway I can.
Couldn't you just find a stock img and flash that from fastboot?

The only luck I have ever had was on the unrevokedtest channel via http://webchat.freenode.net/ Maybe if a bunch of us start asking about it we can get somewhere.
Unrevoked has been pretty unhelpful on this. It says on the IRC chat not to ask about anything with hboot 1.xx I don't know if maybe their particular hack doesn't work on these newer versions or what.
Trying to find a stock, unrooted 2.1 or 2.2 image for a US Cellular CDMA Desire, for warranty. I have been lookin for a couple days and have yet to find. Found several links on the xda forums but they were for rooted or nonstock images.
Didn't find one other than verizon's on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Search function on the forums has not been workin for me as well, always get a temp. unavailable error, so please no search flames..
Thanks for any help here

you don't need to downgrade to root. Use unrevoked.

Yeah I saw that but haven't heard about anyone actually trying it on a USCC phone and what the effects are.
Thanks though
I picked up a Desire yesterday to try to start work on it also. I've been doing dev work on the Mesmerize since it came out and also for the Showcase (Cellular South).
Not that you guys probably care, but I'm a USCC Engineer and have access that has helped me out a lot to get the Mesmerize to where it's at today (of course with lots of help from other devs on the Fascinate side as well as the new guys with me). Unfortunately, things aren't as plentiful in the HTC firmware bin or I would have brought a 2.1 RUU over here a long time ago. On the Samsung side, if a customer brought a phone in to the store and had jacked it up, the in store tech had a stock image of the 2.1 firmware that he/she could flash back on the phone and it would be restored to it's factory state and the customer would be sent on their way. With the Desire, this doesn't seem to be the case. There was no factory image to flash to, so phones were swapped and sent in for repair.
I'm sure that the guys from unrevoked will probably figure this out before I even come close, but I just wanted to pop in and say hey and let you know that you have a friend on the inside (probably not the only one) that's working on things also. Feel free to hit me up. I'm always available for questions, comments, and suggestions.
Ok, a few users here have offered advice/assistance, but I fear this problem has been forgotten.
I am stuck with an S-ON, 2.3.4 Droid Incredible, and am looking for a way to acquire root again.
This happened a few weeks ago, with the leak of the 2.3.4 OTA. Flashed S-ON via CWM (not aware I would permanently lose Root), then flashed the OTA as PB31IMG.zip in HBOOT.
Now, Unrevoked no longer roots the device. HBOOT will not allow downgrading to a 2.2 IMG, nor will it flash any downgraded Radio/HBOOT versions. I've tried them all from Dougpiston.com, even the signed ones.
I've attempted to contact the folks at Unrevoked about this issue on IRC, but I can't ever get a reliable dialogue going with anyone, and I believe they are busy working on Revolution, for Incredible 2/S & Newer devices.
Throwing my hands up, I even called Verizon, gave them an excuse to send me a replacement, just so I could start fresh with a 2.2 phone, but I am out of warranty.
I really want to enjoy Sense 3.0/MIUI, even Cyanogenmod, but the outlook is not so good.
Is there any solution I haven't tried yet? Please help.
Unless Unrevoked or someone else finds a new root method you're pretty much out of luck.

Yep, same situation here, nothing will re-root if you did the GB OTA with S-ON bootloader. just have to wait and see if somebody comes up with something new or Unrevoked comes up with a new method.
EDIT: and I'm willing to bet if you get one from Verizon it might already be 2.3.4

That's most likely true. 2.3.4 is being pushed out to the Incredible now, so they would probably run the newest RUU on their Incredible devices.
I feel your pain deadsoulboy, and I've seen your posts lamenting your situation on other threads. Only solace I can offer you is that generally the source code and RUU are made available within 30 days of the OTA, at which point the developers are completely free to tear into them with reckless abandon and hopefully the folks at unrevoked figure things out.
It's also distinctly possible that HTC will unlock the bootloader the way it has with others of its handsets, in which case you'll be back in business.
Until then, my friend, I believe you are rootless.
i have the same problem. its been a couple months.... am i still hosed?

So I burnt out my Cpu on my original rooted Dinc and got a replacement however after playing around on my replacement Dinc verizon pushed the update to 2.3.4 onto my phone. I would've stopped it but I figured I would just downgrade and root again however the new HBOOT 92 didn't let me downgrade i tried the unrevoked method anyway and i got a custom recovery so i restored MIUI on my current Dinc however i seem to still be unrooted? for example Titanium Backup can't delete system apps. i still have S-on and the new HBOOT 92 however i also have a mac so i am a little stuck and confused on how to regain full root access with s-off again any hep would be greatly appreciated.
