Bell i9000m running JP3 w/ different CSC/MODEM files - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

I haven't seen a thread after I lot of searching about getting JP3 to run on the Bell i9000m on Bells network with 3G/HSPA/2G all working. Forgive me if its posted here somewhere.
I got 2.2/JP3 to work on Bells network with everything intact by using Canadian CSC file and also the modem file (since I know it worked) from this thread entitled Release: I9000XFJM6 - Multi CSC(s) Europe by Richthofen.
I used the I9000XXJP3-PDA.rooted.insecure.clockworkmod for the code itelf. I can make calls and use data which I wasn't able to use on other releases due to the Bell Network. Phone is working sweet now with the usual beta type bugs from froyo; although I haven't encountered a whole lot.
Haven't tried flash yet.
Thanks to Richthofen for his CSC's and direct and informative thread. And of course since i've only had an android for a couple days the other posters especially the FAQ.
If this is something a lot of people have got to work then feel free to mod this thread. I just couldn't find anything by searching other then general information and other people that couldn't get it to work.

Hey - is your video calling still working with the upgrade to FroYo?
Thanks!

It never did work for me. Ill try with my G/F when she gets home.

that's a very good question

I never did get it to work. My gf was on the stock firmware so maybe that was the problem. Although I never got it to work on either of the 5 or 6 firmwares I've tried. All the times I've tried its been with my gfs phone. Tried on wifi and cellular.

[Q] Internet stopped working for Custom ROMs...works on orig Bell ROM

So, I've had my Touch with Bell for almost 2 years now.... I've been running NFSFAN's 6.1 ROM for as long and I've never really had any problems until about a month ago. I haven't posted it until now, but I thought I'd share.
My internet just suddenly stopped working....it would make the connection just fine, but no data would ever go through....not on Opera, not on email, nothing....
I flashed back to the Official Bell ROM and all was well......flashed back to NFSFAN, no internet.
I then tried NFSFAN's WM6.5 ROM, no internet.....back to Bell, internet.
I haven't tried any other custom ROMS, yet.
Now, here's the kicker....a friend of mine who lives quite far away now (So I haven't had a chance to look at his phone, and he knows not how to flash it) was using the same phone with the same NFSFAN ROM (that I flashed on for him) and 2 days before mine quit, his internet stopped working as well.... Seems rather coincidental...
Has anyone else had this happen? Is it possible Bell found some way of determining that a custom ROM was being used and wanted to stop it? The only rationale for such an action that I can think of is to stop people from using the phone as a modem for free.....(which my friend was doing, and I was not).
So, since then, I've just been using the Bell ROM.....sucks, but I've learned to live with it...
any suggestions?
(and yes, I did call Bell tech support....all he would suggest was to flash it back to the official Bell ROM....which ended up being the correct fix....but seems fishy)
Take a look here, this issue was solved a while ago..............
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487&highlight=internet&page=1311
Thanks for the link.
I actually didn't have to do that fix.....I reflashed to 6.1 and......voila internet works....what a mystery.
I had a similar problem with Xv6900 on verizon I had to change my EPST settings. For future reference if you have verizon they use m.ip default of NAI your phone#@vzw3g.com. That fixed my data.

[Q] Baseband switching nightmare

Hi folks... I'm give up for searching. Let me open this thread.
I've been using CM7 and I never got this problem. My phone aways worked without touch baseband switcher option. In last Saturday my Defy started to lose carrier connection. Sometimes it show "only emergency calls", sometimes it show my carrier signal but I can't receive or make any calls. I need to reboot my device, then it works for a while. And yes, because of that my battery is draining very fast.
I've tried everything but nothing is working. I tried to change baseband, wipe cache/data/factory reset, delete bp_nvm_default folder contents and run baseband switch again with every available band option, re-flash everything again from stock Froyo, set up 3G only, 2G only, 3G preferred, flash older CM7 versions, flash last 4 Miui releases too... but it still losing connection. Believe me, I've tried every thing that I can find on google.
My carrier is "Oi", and my phone suppose to be working in 850/2100MHz mode. Could you guys help me? Is there others things that I should do? This could be a hardware problem? I don't think so, with stock Froyo rom it works flawlessly but I don't want go back to it. I don't have another SIM card to try.
I'll try a last shot: flash Froyo again and save bp_nvm_default for CM7. Maybe this could work, I don't know, I'm completely lost. But for now I need sleep, I'll try tomorrow.
Thank you! And sorry for my grammar mistakes. I need more English lessons.
UPDATE: With my friend's chip (TIM carrier) I've got no signal troubles, it's working like a charm. Now I put my Oi chip again and guess what? Yes, my phone loses signal after 15 min. God dammit, it's something with my carrier. I need to call them for support, but my carrier's call center people are a bunch of stupid morons. I can't figure how they could understand that I'm using an alternate firmware, i bet they will say that I need use only official firmware.
UPDATE 2: Ok, there's no way to make this work at Oi's network, I don't know why. So I moved to TIM. Using stock firmware isn't a option, since Motorola can't make a decent work, Motoblur sucks a lot. CM7 or MIUI running Gingerbread are much better than stock Froyo, even without Motoblur crap. Thanks guys for the answers!

Thanks! But yes, I tried it too.
Right now my system is running a Miui 1.10.28, using a RT brazilian Froyo as base (SBF file name: JORLA_U3_3.4.2_107-9_SIGNED_USAJORDMR1B15RETBRL). By the way, I've been using a Nordic 3.4.2_177-005 base system with Quarx's CM7 nightly builds for 4 months without problems, until last Saturday. I could test 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR later, but I'm afraid that can't resolve.
Serious, I'm tired of this. Unfortunately I'll go back to brazilian RT froyo, with Motoblur s*** and slow down my system. I'm losing important calls this way. :'(
EDIT: My friend here in my work gives me his TIM chip, so now I'm testing it.

I've seen, I read many issues like mine. Let me ask you: are the SIM cards from the same carrier?
My phone used to work too. It was running CM7 for 4 months and now started to lose signal suddenly! So that's why I flashed it with RSD Lite 8 times and tried many CM7 versions and Miui last weekend. Maybe I have luck, but I always did it with 100% charged battery.
I'll call TIM, maybe they could give me some advantages or a equivalent plan. So I'll change my carrier.
i changed my carrier...i am not sure whether the same carrier SIM will work...i couldnt find anybody with the same carrier's SIM...so played it safe and got a sim from my mom's carrier..

Well, my phone is 7 months old. Warranty is still valid, but it works with stock firmware. So, I can't ask Motorola's support for replacement or fix it.
There's something wrong with my carrier's network. Here in my state, it was known as Brasil Telecom, but the company was brought by Oi, and they are joining their networks. When I had my old phone, it recognized BrT network, and a roaming signal appeared. The same happens when I use my Defy with stock firmware. But while I'm using a CM7 firmware, the phone show OI as a network available, no BrT and no roaming indicator. It's a bit weird, isn't? Oi's support can't explain why this happen, they just say that it's normal and that they won't charge me by roaming. I just can't realize how it was worked all this time.
Maybe I should change my carrier. Sometimes it delay my txt messages (send and receive). I took my sister's SIM card and I let it all day in my phone. TIM, again. And I have no signal losing, no battery drain, phone get on sleep mode normally. I need test it with SIM cards from Vivo and Claro, just in case.

Yeah, my case is just like a incorrect baseband. But there's something more, it's just impossible to be only a baseband issue!
I tried with the newer baseband switcher. First time I tried RT Brasil, them TIM, Vivo, Claro... so I started to try every single option. I don't know what I should do anymore. The solution seems to be change my carrier.
Hey bro! I had the same issue as you are experiencing a few days ago. Here's what I did:
In Baseband Switcher, choose the middle tab (i think it's europe or something), then select International RT (it's the first one).
Worked like a charm. (w/ TIM and VIVO)
Hopefully it'll work for you too! Good luck!

[Q] Caller ID Hieroglyphs

Wondering if anyone has seen this issue before. (see attachment)
If the caller is in my contact list, name is displayed without issues. However, if they are not, I get a string of strange characters appear as the name. Same goes for Private Callers, or unknown numbers.
The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 running AOKP d2att (4.2.1 JOP40D) Build 1.4.2012
Kernel Version: 3.0.57
Android Version: 4.2.1
Baseband: I747MVLDLK4
Model: SGH-I747(M)
Originaly purchased from Rogers (Canada) but used on the Fido network. I have had no other issues, LTE works great via FIDO or Rogers apn's and caller ID worked fine in stock.
I also have the same issue with CM10. Any help would be great!
I experience this as well. It started happening after i changed from running stock Touchwiz to Task's AOKP. It would be nice to have it fixed but as long as I can see the number of the caller that's good enough.
I was afraid someone was going to say that. However, I don't believe this is an issues we should have to live with, there has to be a reason as to why this is occurring. Anyone have any ideas?

Agreed, and believe me, I have already been down that road numerous times. After a full wipe and reflash back to stock, everything works fine. As well as simply restoring to stock after AOKP/CM flash via CWM backup. Yet, as soon as a custom ROM is applied, good bye call display. Something has to be missing...
My friend is having this issue with his Fido Galaxy S3 running CM10 stable. A fix is definitely needed!
Same thing here on latest AOKP on SGS3 on Fido.
Rogers here, same issue. CM10 stable. If the person is in my contact list it shows normally, but the caller id is wonky as described above.
I think since people on the contact list show normally this issue takes a little while for some people to notice. At first I thought it was just some foreign guy calling me Then a few more calls... and I found this thread, although I would describe the display as "garbled" really. But obviously more than a few people have this issue.
This might be one of you guys, http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=7074 -- talking about CM10.1, but this bug is in CM10 too obviously.
Possible fix
Hi guys,
I was thinking about this and noticed that people with this problem seemed to be on the I747MVLDLK4 baseband. It occurred to me to try switching it out and seeing if that had any effect.
Yes it does.
I used my co-workers phone (removing his phone number from my contacts first of course) and called my phone. Normally I get gibberish (I tested immediately before flashing to verify) and viola, my caller ID works now, with the tiny exception that there is a trailing "@" symbol. But otherwise it showed up correctly.
I flashed the I747MVLLH1 baseband and that *seems* to have fixed the issue. Apparently the speeds, connectivity and such can vary between basebands and your location so you may want to try a few basebands listed here and see if any of these work for you. Just remember not to flash an AT&T baseband on a Canadian phone or the other way around.
Post your results if this works for you. Cheers!
That is great news!!! I will test a few and post results.
Link is broken tho....
Edit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
Edit2:
WORKED LIKE A F**KING CHARM!!!!!
Went down the list flashing each one and doing some various tests. Placing/receiving calls, LTE connectivity, speed tests, etc... Safe to say, I747MVLLH1 seems to be working best.
My phone is originally from Rogers, but service is with Fido (Fido sim) yet still using the Rogers APN settings.
Right on man Glad it worked for more than just me. That default base band actually seems pretty lousy in general, thinking back I'm not sure it was really working in the stock, factory firm ware either. I recall seeing unknown caller from phone numbers that I knew had id's.
Cheers!
Edit: can we mark this solved?

Same problem on my LG P930 from Bell, unlocked and connected to rogers. Using CM 10.1 2/21 nightly currently, but it was happening on older nightly's too.
I guess I have to hunt down baseband options for my handset unless other solutions have come up since the last posts to this thread.

Open jira report
There is an open JIRA report against CM10.1 RC3 in regards to this issue.
Yes flashing an older ICS modem will work temporarily but there is obviously a problem with the newer JB modems released for our devices that we can hopefully get resolved.
If you want to see this fixed, sign in to JIRA and vote for the issue to help get it some support.
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-1202
I also understand that not all of you are necessarily using CM10.1 but you may be using a ROM that pulls it's base code from CM so there is a good chance if they fix it, it will be fixed for whatever other ROM you are using.
Thanks.

[Q] New Glide owner, could use some advice.

Howdy Folks!
I recently got a SGH-I927 that is locked to AT&T.
I have read what I believe is all the relevant data about how to do the things I want, and I think I have it down, but I want to make sure I have everything exactly correct. I still have 6 days left with Virgin Mobile before I have to have all this done.
What I want to do...
Root
Back up my EFS
Update from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4
Carrier Unlock from AT&T so I can use a T-Mobile MVNO.
So my question is- is this the best order to do things in? I know I have to root before I can Unlock the phone or Backup my EFS, but I notice that there are two different methods for Rooting. I can root before I update to ICS or after. Does it make a difference? Which method is easier, which one is more reliable/safer? I also noticed that Unlocking the phone after updating to ICS requires an extra step, so that would be another factor.
Kies seems to be working, and when I plugged my phone in, it offered to update me from 2.3.6 (Baseband Ver I927UCKL1) to 4.04 (Baseband Ver I927UCLJ3), so it doesn't seem like updating will be a problem.
Are there any major issues with version two of the ICS update? I have read a lot of people that had issues with the first version of ICS that got released, and I know AT&T pulled it as an OTR update, but haven't heard a lot about version two. The people who have it are you satisfied with it? Did anyone prefer Gingerbread?
Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if these questions have been answered already, I really did read through a LOT of information before posting here, and haven't seen these answered.
You don't need to root to unlock the phone. You just need to insert a code you buy from a seller on the internet.
I'm running the ULCHJ version of ICS and it works fine. I experienced the same GPS issue i had in GB, but the same fix worked it out and it I'm totally happy with it.
I can say, hope i won't regret, that there's nothing i should fix so far. Some minor issues were fixed as soon as i went through, I'm quite satisfied with this ROM now.

certainly get a code and use dmans uclj3 deodexed rooted as the stable rom.. then you can use es explorer to modify sirgps.conf and gps.conf to get your gps working. before i switched to cm10.1 JB I was running it with no issues and instant GPS lock in all apps.

About that... AT&T phones, even once unlocked, cannot use UMTS or HSPA+ on T-Mobile's network. It's a physical limitation of the radio. ONLY do this if you already KNOW you will be happy with EDGE.

I'm in same boat here I guess. Just ordered a Glide, looking forward to having a physical keyboard again since my TP2 days. I was checking out the ROM options, found the link for "Stock UCLJ3 Rom" and it looks like that is the way go, other than maybe just staying stock... I need Bluetooth, Camera, GPS, and Tethering to work, so I guess I won't be messing around with anything fancy.
So don't do any OTA upgrade at all when I first get it out of the box? Just back it up, then root, and install UCLJ3 via CWM? Is this the best choice?

There is not and never has been GPS problems that actually affect normal use. I don't know where people are getting that from. There's some anomalies in the data returned, but nothing that's actually used by the location API.
Bluetooth itself works, but there are some audio layer problems that interfere with headsets/earpieces and the like. (TBH our whole audio layer is a mess right now.) Stuff like OBEX and tethering should work fine.
Speaking of audio layer issues... there's still a longstanding bug where if userspace (i.e. an app; normal cell network phonecalls are fine) opens the microphone, audio output is corrupted. The biggest problem caused by this is the other person is basically unintelligible when calling in Skype. That and Bluetooth audio routing are really the only big problems we still have.
The camera was fixed months and months and months ago. I discovered the original fix even. There was a problem with audio in the video recorder that has now been solved recently.

OK, so then just the random app microphone and bluetooth issues still remain... So you still say it's worth it? I'm leaning towards the debloated rooted stock as I'm just lazy and want everything to work.

Official ICS was something of a ****storm, as Samsung never did get it to work quite right. There was a myriad of weird keyboard issues, intermittent radio problems, and come to think of it, I think I know where the GPS thing came from... official ROMs have lethargic GPS if you're not on AT&T. I'd say 99% of power users with a Glide are on one build/variant or the other of CM10.1 because it's the most problem-free ROM that's not, ugh, Gingerbread.
The primary value of official ICS to us was the kernel sources and RIL blobs -- the last few critical bits and pieces we needed to make our own ROMs and properly connect them to all the phone hardware.
I'd say, once you have everything backed up:
Flash official ICS UCLJ3 (for the bootloader and baseband)
Flash CWM over the top of it
Use CWM to flash the current CM10.1 build and gapps. Call it good.

Ok great, thanks for the explanation/breakdown So if there is an OTA update that pops up right out of the box, do I do it or skip it? And I'll have to root before flashing the UCLJ3, right?

Might as well, as if it happens to be UCLJ3, well, it just did Step 1 for you, and if not, well, it doesn't matter either way.
You don't really need root for any of this since our bootloader is unlocked OOB.

Awesome, thanks for the help!:good:

About that... AT&T phones, even once unlocked, cannot use UMTS or HSPA+ on T-Mobile's network. It's a physical limitation of the radio. ONLY do this if you already KNOW you will be happy with EDGE.

Damn it, that really sucks. Thank you so much for letting me know that, you saved me some headaches.
Edit: I did some digging around to get a technical explanation of this issue and stumbled across some unexpectedly good news, I can use HSPA+ on T-MO, well halfway at least, I'm going to make a new post as a public service.

Can't Send SMS; Can Receive SMS/MMS & Send MMS

Hey guys,
I think I've reached the point where it's time to call in the cavalry and see if anyone around here is having the same issue; there appears to be a plague going around on the Verizon network, specifically in the Pennsylvania area, preventing people from sending SMS, but still receiving fine (and 4G works fine too, for the record). MMS still sends / receives fine, but I'm unable to send SMS. There are tricks to allowing a single SMS message to go through which involves toggling Airplane mode on / off every. Single. Time. People have also had success with turning 4G off completely, using the CDMA band after a reboot at which point they can send *several*, but still end up with the same issue.
The only solution I've read about that FIXED it is by reverting back to complete stock from VZW. Performing factory resets, using other ROMs, etc etc...doesn't work. I'd REALLY rather not do this and, frankly, would rather use 3G / toggle Airplane mode for texts than use Sense and get off of my ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560831).
People from other device forums on XDA are having the same problem; the ones I've seen that are active discussions are the Samsung Galaxy S III & IV. They're mostly CM ROMs *as well as* AOSP ROMs in general.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658572
SIM card replacements are a no-go, and the recorded instances seem to be in the 717 / 570 area codes, mostly. Now I DO know that VZW released an OTA update for the One recently, and I'm relatively confident that would fix the issue, but I've no idea why. I'm thinking perhaps they dispatched new radios? I looked around a bit and couldn't find any flashable zips of radios extracted from the latest OTA, that's the next step I'll be trying once that download finishes.
So is anyone else having this issue? Any word on fixes?
The newest firmware from the latest OTA can be found in the 2nd post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
If you've already flashed the latest firmware then I'm not sure what to tell you... maybe ask your favorite rom developer to take a look at the latest OTA in regards to this issue?
If it has the stock rom and OTA update why not take it to the store and let them look at it. Something might be wrong with your account.

Those area codes for all phones on aosp roms are not working right now. Since 2/20/14. Has nothing to do with HTC or their firmware. I'ts a bizarre Verizon 4G issue. I am in the 717 area code with a Note 2 with the issue. I have seen others with S4 and S3. Verizon is aware of the issue and is working with another XDA member to fix it. To date it's not resolved.

Thanks DreamFX; I've been following this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658572&page=6) lately as they seem to be the most on top of it. I can't believe Verizon has let this issue go on for so long, but given that it seems to only be relevant to those of us with AOSP ROM's, I guess it makes sense. At least I'm still able to send texts, if not only through a silly process of toggling airplane mode on / off. Hopefully it gets resolved soon...

I'm getting this too, just started for me today from what I can tell. Driving me bonkers but, Airplane mode toggle totally works for me. :cyclops:
VZW SGS4 running AOSPA with 804 area code operating in Oregon.

Whoa, that's weird. I really thought it was isolated to the 717 area code. It's getting pretty crazy...I've been dealing with this for a few weeks now and my patience is running thin. Unfortunately it's not like we can just report this to VZW because all anyone would tell us to do is "restore to factory", which simply isn't a solution.

Yup, I thought so too. Just cropped up between 10a and 11a PDT. Like you said MMS is fine, simply affects SMS. And yes, restoring stock is simply not an option. Going to TMobile, however, is totally an option that I'm considering more and more often......
EDIT: AND SMS began sending properly (without workaround) for me around 8p PDT last night, just tested and still ok. RESOLVED!
EDIT EDIT: Issue now persists....sadface =[
