Hi folks... I'm give up for searching. Let me open this thread.
I've been using CM7 and I never got this problem. My phone aways worked without touch baseband switcher option. In last Saturday my Defy started to lose carrier connection. Sometimes it show "only emergency calls", sometimes it show my carrier signal but I can't receive or make any calls. I need to reboot my device, then it works for a while. And yes, because of that my battery is draining very fast.
I've tried everything but nothing is working. I tried to change baseband, wipe cache/data/factory reset, delete bp_nvm_default folder contents and run baseband switch again with every available band option, re-flash everything again from stock Froyo, set up 3G only, 2G only, 3G preferred, flash older CM7 versions, flash last 4 Miui releases too... but it still losing connection. Believe me, I've tried every thing that I can find on google.
My carrier is "Oi", and my phone suppose to be working in 850/2100MHz mode. Could you guys help me? Is there others things that I should do? This could be a hardware problem? I don't think so, with stock Froyo rom it works flawlessly but I don't want go back to it. I don't have another SIM card to try.
I'll try a last shot: flash Froyo again and save bp_nvm_default for CM7. Maybe this could work, I don't know, I'm completely lost. But for now I need sleep, I'll try tomorrow.
Thank you! And sorry for my grammar mistakes. I need more English lessons.
UPDATE: With my friend's chip (TIM carrier) I've got no signal troubles, it's working like a charm. Now I put my Oi chip again and guess what? Yes, my phone loses signal after 15 min. God dammit, it's something with my carrier. I need to call them for support, but my carrier's call center people are a bunch of stupid morons. I can't figure how they could understand that I'm using an alternate firmware, i bet they will say that I need use only official firmware.
UPDATE 2: Ok, there's no way to make this work at Oi's network, I don't know why. So I moved to TIM. Using stock firmware isn't a option, since Motorola can't make a decent work, Motoblur sucks a lot. CM7 or MIUI running Gingerbread are much better than stock Froyo, even without Motoblur crap. Thanks guys for the answers!

Thanks! But yes, I tried it too.
Right now my system is running a Miui 1.10.28, using a RT brazilian Froyo as base (SBF file name: JORLA_U3_3.4.2_107-9_SIGNED_USAJORDMR1B15RETBRL). By the way, I've been using a Nordic 3.4.2_177-005 base system with Quarx's CM7 nightly builds for 4 months without problems, until last Saturday. I could test 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR later, but I'm afraid that can't resolve.
Serious, I'm tired of this. Unfortunately I'll go back to brazilian RT froyo, with Motoblur s*** and slow down my system. I'm losing important calls this way. :'(
EDIT: My friend here in my work gives me his TIM chip, so now I'm testing it.

If this makes you feel any better, you are not the only one with this problem..i used to get no network using my sim but my mom's cardused to work fine (i use cm7)..no matter what I do, this problem keeps coming back after a month or so..and I have never flashed a stock ROM usong rsd lite as I have read many people screwing up their defys in that process..so did the only thing I could- changed my sim!

I've seen, I read many issues like mine. Let me ask you: are the SIM cards from the same carrier?
My phone used to work too. It was running CM7 for 4 months and now started to lose signal suddenly! So that's why I flashed it with RSD Lite 8 times and tried many CM7 versions and Miui last weekend. Maybe I have luck, but I always did it with 100% charged battery.
I'll call TIM, maybe they could give me some advantages or a equivalent plan. So I'll change my carrier.
i changed my carrier...i am not sure whether the same carrier SIM will work...i couldnt find anybody with the same carrier's SIM...so played it safe and got a sim from my mom's carrier..

Well, my phone is 7 months old. Warranty is still valid, but it works with stock firmware. So, I can't ask Motorola's support for replacement or fix it.
There's something wrong with my carrier's network. Here in my state, it was known as Brasil Telecom, but the company was brought by Oi, and they are joining their networks. When I had my old phone, it recognized BrT network, and a roaming signal appeared. The same happens when I use my Defy with stock firmware. But while I'm using a CM7 firmware, the phone show OI as a network available, no BrT and no roaming indicator. It's a bit weird, isn't? Oi's support can't explain why this happen, they just say that it's normal and that they won't charge me by roaming. I just can't realize how it was worked all this time.
Maybe I should change my carrier. Sometimes it delay my txt messages (send and receive). I took my sister's SIM card and I let it all day in my phone. TIM, again. And I have no signal losing, no battery drain, phone get on sleep mode normally. I need test it with SIM cards from Vivo and Claro, just in case.

Yeah, my case is just like a incorrect baseband. But there's something more, it's just impossible to be only a baseband issue!
I tried with the newer baseband switcher. First time I tried RT Brasil, them TIM, Vivo, Claro... so I started to try every single option. I don't know what I should do anymore. The solution seems to be change my carrier.
Hey bro! I had the same issue as you are experiencing a few days ago. Here's what I did:
In Baseband Switcher, choose the middle tab (i think it's europe or something), then select International RT (it's the first one).
Worked like a charm. (w/ TIM and VIVO)
Hopefully it'll work for you too! Good luck!

I said it already, I tried it. With every single option. The RT international was the 1st option after the brazilian's options.
I'm moving to Tim. Now my phone isn't loosing signal. Oi's network sucks.

Randomly I have not been able to text, make calls or get a data connection with my phone. I was running CM 7.0.3 when this all of a sudden started. Restarting my phone would allow me to make calls and get a data connection for a few minutes and then I would not be able to do either. I flashed the newest CM7 nightly build and a new radio, Vision_Radio_12.57.60.25_26.10.04.12. The same problem continued so I flashed Virtuous 2.0.0 but that made no difference.
Anyone have any idea of what I can do to fix this?
Thanks.
I'd say try flashing a different ROM. But since you've fresh flashed the same ROM I'd say that pretty much counts.
Next I'd call the carrier and confirm that you SIM/account is in good standing, and that the towers are working properly in your area. I've had the freakout about "omg my phone is jacked up" and after flashing all kinds of ROMs, radios, etc. I just called T-mobile and they confirm that there was just a network problem in my area.
ur doing a full wipe right?

This.
i tell my carrier straight up that im rooted...they dont say anything...but im not calling tech support either
If the OP is just calling to see if their have been any reported service outages or interruptions in his area, whether he is rooted or not shouldn't matter.
A couple times in the past few years, I've had instances where I lost both data and voice service for up to a couple hours at a time, over the course of several days. Then the problem just goes away. This seems to fairly typical, if they are upgrading or repairing your local tower.
If the OP has tried flashing various ROMs, and tried a new radio, I'd be inclined to say the ROM is not the problem. If the problem persists, you may ask your carrier to send a new SIM (or go to their store and ask for one).
hi,
you are not alone!
i have this problem with OE HTC 2.3.3 stock rom! (unrooted original device from Nov. 2010)
so i had very bad mobile connection and after ~1day (without reboot) i can't phone with it.. mobile network only "x" but data connection is fixed to gprs.
very strange!
so i send my phone back and orderd new one.
i think this is was hardware problem.
short:
- reboot bringt full funktion but the mobile connection is not so good as 4month ago (same point).. 4month ago it was "H" and now only gprs
after many hours >8h. calls didn't work, the phone said "no provider"... (x)..
- the strange thing is that data connection is degrade to gprs
this problem exist from the last 2 HTC OTA updates. but onyl the last 2.3.3 makes it really unusable
i hope this problem don't come back with the new desire z now rootet with cm 7.10 rc1 (what a feeling)
Well i have a big problem, i'm using the DINC2 over a GSM network with the 900Mhz freq for 3G.
I had the 2.3.4 then i downgraded the rom to 2.3.3 using the method posted in the development section.
Then installed CM7 and everything was perfect until the moment i made a nandroid backup, after that the handset went crazy, first dropping the 3G until the point that it drops the signal completely not even gsm.
I have tried several radio version and the problem persists, i'am willing to go back to official 2.3.4 if the problem is solved but again since i'm not in the US i cannot upgrade the device via OTA.
I need help i cannot use it without 3G.
EDIT: I managed to get it to work stable at 2G, but whenever it makes the handover to 3G it drops the signal completely and return back to 2G, it works stable if i leave it in GSM only.
Have you found anything out? This us exactly what my phone is doing. Installed touch pros beta 3 ICS and had a sporatic signal (like it'd be fine and for no reason I'd have no service). Yesterday I installed beta 6 and everythings fine until I got it set up and did a nandroid. I am using the 722 radio, but saw a little about a 1111 radio...have u tried that radio?
Touchpros ics rom does not officially support GSM, it works in general but there is no support for it. This means that you can use ics but there are multiple issues, like the radio dying when you restart your phone.
So you can use it but remember it is not finished

Hi there,
my girlfriend has some problems with the 3G connection of her HTC One V, hopefully one of you can help us
She´s using an o2 simcard in her One V. If the One V is powered on for some hours/mintues at a time it happens that the 3G connection isn´t working any longer?
You can still see the H(SDPA) / E(DGE) symbol in the topbar, but nothing is working?
If she turns off and on her mobile connection, nothing happens.... 3G is still not working.
The only way to get the 3G connection working again is to turn the flight mode on and off again. After that everything is working as usual.
(A reboot is also working)
As I got my HTC Desire 2 1/2 years ago I had the same problem,... after an android update everything was working as it should.
But these 3G problems are really quite annoying
Is there anybody out there who has (had) the same problems?
She´s using the HTC stock android 4.0.
Hopefully it´s not a hardware defect
Thanks for your answers so far.

that´s not so easy because she has a contract with o2 ...
I don´t believe that this is a hardware error, because after booking in into the cellphone network everything works as it should... but then after some time it suddenly happens that the 3G network is dead
i have to ask, but is the back cover on?
of course, back cover is on. I also don´t think that this has something to do with the back cover (or any other hardware) because like i just said after switching the flightmode on and off everything works as it should ... i´ve googled in the meantime and I found some other people who are also on android devices and they´re having the same problem.
here´s a german article of people who´re having the same problem

This also confirm my doubts... I had the same behavior on my old HTC Desire ... but after I´ve flashed another rom everything has worked perfectly
seems to be an android specific problem

Are you sure HSDPA means falling back? Imho it's only a type of 3G and it is really fine if you see H for mobile data mode. I might be wrong or this might be treated differently by country/operator.

Hi all, I posted in the CM10 support thread, but this issue doesn't seem to be well known so I'm raising it in its own thread.
I'm not having much luck with my newly-purchased Defy+. The factory firmware suffered random reboots, which is pretty well documented. I installed the latest CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip, and the random reboots have stopped. However I now get occasional dropouts of phone and 3G service.
Usually, I find out when either I try to use data and even though the 3G icon suggests a connection, no data is transferred. Then the phone app hangs when I try to make a call. If people call me, they *do* get a ringtone, but my phone doesn't make any sound or visual feedback that there's a call coming in. Aircraft mode doesn't rescue the situation, I have to reboot the phone to get it to work.
Hope someone can help - I came from a rock-solid CM7 / HTC Desire HD setup, and this is doing my head in. Am happy to provide any more debug information as required.
NB I see from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31440310&postcount=321 that there is a known 3G data dropout bug on these phones, but that's not what I see - I can't make phone calls either. Plus my ROM has that fix in.
I have installed Connection Checker which will hopefully give me details of if there's any pattern to the problematic behaviour. Look forward to any feedback, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response, it's interesting and heartening. I can't find a factory SBF so I can't take it back to the shop.
FWIW, I find the baseband screen confusing. My service provider is Golan Telecom. They have a UMTS 2100MHz network, and rely on roaming with another local provider - Cellcom for GSM 900/1800 and UMTS 850/2100.
I think I understand the frequencies but not what the 2.21 etc means.
As I type this, the phone has been on 2.21 for 20 minutes, and is now exhibiting the problem again.
I am now trying Asia / China 0.26/1.10 which has frequencies 850/2100 MHz. If for no other reason than Israel isn't listed in the list. However, that didn't work for long, if at all. I'm absolutely hating this.
Can you or anyone add to this by suggesting how I might choose the right baseband out of the options given?
Try one by one according to your location.

Well, my location (Israel) isn't in the list. I've tried many settings, with varying results, but not one has been able to avoid this problem where the phone (app as in the actual telephone) just hangs and I lose voice and data. I can keep going, but I don't understand why one would magically work. I think 900/2100 should work with my SP, and I don't understand the differences between the myriad of options that still result in the same frequencies. Have I missed something?
Is there anything else worth trying? I have heard that sometimes it can be a SIM problem, but my SIM isn't even a year old.
I think I have a fix, due to great work by coas (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31025913&postcount=34).
My carrier (Golan Telecom) has a national roaming agreement with Cellcom. It seems that flashing the Cellcom radio for the Defy Plus has fixed the issue. It's been up for four hours now, which is four times as long as before.
I guess the issue is that flashing the SBF to root the Defy Plus, messed up the radio in some way, but I don't really understand the whole radio issue, and what is different in radios from different carriers' firmware. I thought GSM was GSM and UMTS was UMTS. Anyway it seems to be working so I'm not complaining.
Just wanted to put this here for the benefit of anyone else who might be having the same issue.
Sadly, it was a short-lived "fix". Still unreliable, just not quite as bad. I'm going to try the Orange (Partner) radio .sbf which coas tells me is updated, and if not, then return it to factory firmware and take it back to the shop.

If you are willing to stick with a Custom ROM, you can try a different setting on the CPU Settings.
Not a long time ago, I had similar problems and solved it enabling "load all modules" and "conservative" settings in the custom recovery.
Good Luck and let me know if it worked for you.
Hi, thanks for the answer. I didn't update the thread, but I can confirm that I took it back to the shop. The guy knew about the problem and replaced the handset, and now it's fine. So it's a hardware issue - he said it happens on around 1 in 5 Defy Pluses.
Hi, I had the very same problem with my defy+, it suffered that issue on CM9 and CM10. I could not resolve it and had to go back to stock, it works fine now.
It seems the problem is more frequent with national roaming in use.
After the replacement, is everything working fine even with CM10?

I have the same problem, every now and then it will stop having service and the only way to get it back is by rebooting, sometimes it works at first sometimes it needs a couple of reboots.
Any hint with this would be great
(this happened to me with aokp and cyanogenmod)

I have the same problem but it stopped having service at all, and it's not a sim card problem (the same simcard works in another phone)

same problem and i'm having invalid imei
im having almost identical problems... like a month or 2 ago i reflashed to the new 4.3 slim rom. I have been fighting this thing every since. Ive tried so many different radios but yet i still have this issue, sometimes i can go days without problems but now it seems to loose data even sooner. ONLY way i get data (4G) back is if i reboot. Ive tried disabling then re-enabling data, same for airplane mode, nothing works. I think part of the problem is this damn rom.... i used to be on black bean 8 and for the mobile networks it had an option for "CDMA/LTE". This rom must be a ported rom cause the only selection for mobile networks that work is "CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA". I am on Sprint CDMA and LTE. i dont understand why this was done like this. I Would like to go back to blackbean 8 but i had problems with it and i like some of the settings for this rom better. Anybody have any ideas? Ive tried ALL the radios, none seem to be stable.
oh and i would post in there for the rom's forum but seeing as i havent posted enough here im not able to ask questions about it or anything :-/
