I noticed after rooting 2.2, All I did was get root and apply the eng-bootloader.
But It says S-OFF in the bootloader and I did not apply unrevoked forever.
I got it though sprint's phone insurance company, since it's replacement for my old one.
Why would it have S-OFF? It's hardware 003. So I see no reason why it's S-OFF'd.

The engineering bootloader is S-OFF, but it is not permanent unlike Unrevoked Forever. If you load a regular bootloader back on, the S-OFF will go away.
Correct me if I am wrong, but eng gives you S-OFF doesn't it? I have S-OFF and I didn't use u4.

It won't stick....
S - Off = you have root, but if you did not run unrEVOked Forever you can lose root by an OTA update.
Y'all must be using a different hboot than me because Eng hboot never showed S-OFF until I ran U4E...
Alright. Just wondering.

Hi all, so the US Cellular RUU is out and that is cool. I have a broken Desire that I would like to get fixed under warranty. I flashed the RUU and it un-rooted my phone but the bootloader still shows that the security flag is off (S-OFF). Is there a way to set S-ON? I rooted and set S-OFF via unrevoked. On their page is has said that S-ON is coming soon - but it has said that for a long time. I also have another working Desire so I can get anything off of that if needed.
Thanks,
Pete
I am technically inclined so I will try pretty much anything to get this thing setup with the security flag on again.
A way to contact the unrevoked team?
Anyone know how to contact team unrevoked? I am just wondering how soon the 'coming soon' is for S-ON for the CDMA Deisre. Thanks in advance..
I just attempted to set s-on for my CDMA Desire with the unrevoked-forever-son.zip. It errored out with an incorrect radio message. Is there a way to set s-on for my BravoC Desire? Wondering if there is a radio I can use?
Don't think you can get S-ON again at the moment, you can go back to stock ROM-wise with the new RUU

This is exactly correct - I flashed the Alltel RUU that downgraded my radio to a version that unrevoked-forever-son.zip is compatible with. I attempted to run the update from within recovery and it gracefully told me my device was not supported. So I am on to waiting for unrevoked to add s-on support for the CDMA Desire.
I'm waiting for S-ON too. S-OFF broke my MMS (maybe s-on will fix it) but I need to take it back to bluegrass.
I had to get a new HTC Desire/BravoC (camera/LED Flash board was damaged) tried to root using EVERYTHING. Unrevoked, z4root, alpharev, I can go on....
seems when the new phone came there is a new HBOOT out (1.06.0000)
can not gain Root with anything, very frustrating.
GRRRR
any suggestible ideas to try.

I've had this exact problem since USCC released their Froyo update that went out as S-On and Hboot 1.06. I've had zero luck. CM 1.6 is running stable but with stock recovery and uncracked bootloader there hasn't been anyway to load the custom rom.
Swyped using USCC Mesmerize
Right now there is no way to root with hboot 1.06, unless you had it previously rooted in 2.1 and got S-Off. Since you got it with 2.2, you won't be able to until they find another exploit for it. I use visionary+ to get temp root, but that's all you can do right now.

I had it rooted before but I didn't go through the s-off ordeal. Is it possible to go back? I mean I'd probably have to find a stock 2.1 RUU.

Hey
How can I root a Wildfire using a Android application (.apk) installed on the phone? I tried Gingerbreak and it reboots the phone, it gets "stuck" on one of the bootscreens; I say "stuck" because it stay on there after 3 minutes or so, I hit the power button and suddenly it gets unstuck but Superuser is NOT installed.
Using unrevoked or similar types of programs is not possible in my scenario. If it was, I would have used that the first time around and be done with this
Thanks for the help
Sadly the only ways I know of are unrevoked (hboot 0.80) or alpharev x beta (hboot 1.01). Just remember you use these tools at your own risk
Just so that you know AlphaRevX=/= Root.
AlphaRevX enables you to root, you still need to root it.

Yes, you can use gingerbread.apk to root you phone, but provided only when your phone is S-OFF either by xtc clip or by alpharevx.
If your hboot is 0.80 with s-on, then use unrevoked to root. Alternatively you can update the hboot to 1.01 and use alpharevx to s-off and then root. The advantage in doing this is having s-off. But read a bit in these forums about that.
And if your hboot is 1.01 with s-on, then only way presently is to make s-off and then root.
[Definitely there should be a need of PC for using unrevoked or alpharevx for a S-ON wildfire. When there is nand security, I think it is not possible to run something (other than HTC updates) from phone itself when it is in hboot/fastboot mode. Correct me if I'm wrong.]

Its a shame I cant do it since I do not have access to the Wildfire and a PC at the same time.
Oh well thanks for the information.
I have s-offed my device in april using old method of alpharev, can I apply the new method (revolutionary) to s-off it again?
Thanks.
If it is S-OFFed, then you can S-OFF it again -.-
Like a car, once it's started, you can't start it again, because it's already started
But if you Unrooted or whatever (and currently you are S-ON), then you can.
Thanks
Actually I unrooted the phone using original RUU then s-offed it again using revolutionary
Anyways thanks a lot
Just got my M7 back form HTC for warranty repair. Phone was sent with to HTC with S-off but arrived with S-on and Hboot 1.57
I am a bit confused on what I need to do as things have changed since I first S-off using rumrunner and weaksauce.
Other then sunshine, Is there a way to root the phone in it's present state? Can I unlock the bootloader with HTdev?
Thanks
BB

With hBoot 1.57, Sunshine is your only option. Works easy.

So we can't even root the M7 on hBoot 1.57 unless we use sunshine first?
I assume we can't flash and older version as well.
Thanks

Yes to both: it can be rooted and rommed just after you finish Sunshine.
And you're correct about you can't go back.
Once you've got S-0ff, you can go backwards and forwards with radios and hboots.
