Hello to all,
I have tried the opendesire Rom and it's really really fast and is the best I think for gaming but I love sense, his widget, and better application such as calendar,
Music player, camera app dialer and Facebook integration with contact!
So my question is if is possible and how make a non sense Rom like sense with almost or all features of sense.theme style included of course.
Thanks to all

Launcher pro + has some identical widgets, you can try n use it instead...
How about a sense ROm without the keyboard, txt, contact and phone app. Leave those stock Android and hopefully have the Sense widgets.
So you want a very fast stable rom but has sense?
OD with launcherpro is proberly nearest. HTC havent released alot of the froyo source codes (for Desire) so most of the optimisations are just from a base Sense rom.
This means, there isn't alot of tuning ie. UVOC.
Can result in alot of bugs. Like removing the filling from a cake. Gonna get a bit messy.
Pinky's rom is the one i'm using atm, based on MCR if i remember....
Very stable, fast. Some issues with battery, but a bit of tuning to setCPU and your fine.
Apart from that, it does the job nicely.
I've been switching between Pinkys and OD lately. Just cant live without the sense camera, the dialer, and the incoming call screen. But OD does have the speed, battery life, stability and is a bit more "open" thanks to google passing out source codes with every happymeal.
Also, both OD and Pinky have updates available through RomManager, so you can always stay up to date
Now I have nextsense Rom and is very fast but is impossible to oc and don't have the gpu drivers that in most case can make the difference when playing heavy and not optimized games.
But I really don't like vanilla theme of od!!!and HTC has made a wonderful job with their app such as camera contacts calendar etc etc....
So it's a very big hard choice!
Whit launcherpro what can I do?

Same here. Can't live with out HTC apps. But got a big problem with battery life while using sense roms.
What i am looking for is a Sense Rom with the best battery life? Anyone can suggest one?

Hi all,
I'm going to holidays soon and I want my Desire to last as long as it can...
At the moment I'm running Modaco r6 Froyo with Sense with the radio 42.52.00.32U_5.09.00.08 and battery drain is not bad, but it can be better. It lasts about 24 hours with mid usage...
The ROM that I'm using is not supporting the UVOC kernel so I can NOT use SetCPU to optimize battery drain...
So I'm ready to go back to 2.1 if I'm going to have a better battery drain!
My requirements are: it must have HTC Sense and the included Dialer/Contacts app (so please no stock ROMS)
And it would be great if my batter could last more than 2 days without charge..
Any feedback ?

All the SenseUI ROM's are pretty much the same as they're all based on the same source and have the same kernel, it's totally up to you which one you prefer though, I'd go for the one with the least bloat.
Also I'm using the same radio as you and get a very decent battery running OpenDesire.
May I ask why you don't want a stock ROM?

It's based on the leak same as the ROM i'm using and you can not flash a custom kernel to use SetCPU to save battery.

Not going to get any OCUV on a leaked SenseUI ROM unfortunately, you can just install SetCPU and underclock the kernel though.
42.52.00.32U_5.09.00.08 works great on OpenDesire and Official Froyo HTC Sense v1.0c by OD team, and also LeeDroid v1.6, in my experience so far.

The first two I mentioned are very similar but OD is stock Froyo and the other has Sense.
LeeDroid was good but I had an issue that kept creeping up. Might have been one of my apps or widgets though because others haven't reported it. I just find with OpenDesire I have a nice clean, fast and stable ROM with no bloatware and good battery life, and I love the development that Adam puts into it...

So for the thread-opener:
Use "Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM by OpenDesire Team"
It´s from the OpenDesire developer (think he really knows what he does) and it`s not full of stuff nobody needs. A clean, fast, stable FROYO SENSE...
(I`m using it myself)
I use "Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM by OpenDesire Team" with radio 42.52.00.32U_5.09.00.08 and last night I lost 20% in 6.5 hours with doing nothing. When I looked the next morning what drained my battery "Batteryinfo" told me the Android system. 3G was on that 6.5 hours.
20% in 6.5 hours, I don't think that's good...

That's not the ROM, it's some or other application or mod that you have installed. I have experienced this same thing on quite a few different ROM's now and it's always related to something not working correctly with that specific ROM. Do some testing though, full wipe, install ROM, don't restore any of your apps, mods or widgets, and monitor the battery life over an hour or two with the phone on standby...
When I was on Official Froyo my phone lost about 4% over 6 hours on standby with 3G and everything on...
Any non sense ROM with latest radio. Did once 3 days with opendesire. Now I use cyanogen RC1. Also seems to be very battery friendly.
Be sure to use as little widgets as possible, I only use power control and retro clock.
If you want to save even more use the night vision mode in cyanogen.

Not sure it's true. Take a look at this one: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/312051/oclock-custom-rom/
(can't say much about battery life because I use my phone very intensive so I don't expect it to last more than 12 hours but it does seem better than with stock Sense ROM).
I`ve tested many many many ROMs (OpenDesire, DeFroST, LeeDroid etc.) and with the last one (OD 2.4a) i had strong battery drain >1% every two minutes in standby, airplane mode! No apps in backround, undervolted and underclocked to 699 MHz.
Today I have flashed radio v.5.09.00.08 and Official FroyoSense from OD Team AND wiped Battery stats from Recovery Menu.
... voila! 3G on, no setCPU, synchronization every 4 hour, everything else same as in OD 2.4a = 3% (average) lost in one hour!
IMHO this is the best radio/rom combination ever had!
Where can I download the 42.52.00.32U_5.09.00.08 Radio?
Right there
I mean, what will I lose if I choose to use a rom without sense?
Do I get less battery drain?
you'll lose:
Sense Launcher, Sense Widgets - this can be fully replaced by Launcher Plus Pro, or, if you don't like the look of Sense Widgets by ADW.Launcher
Sense programs, like mail, calendar, ...
FM Radio
HTC Sync - you won't be able to sync your Desire calendar with Outlook directly any longer. You'll have to buy third party software to do this via the Google cloud or you use an Exchange Server.
Because the HTC Froyo source got released now, as it seems, you'll also be able to undervolt Sense ROMs now.
However, non Sense ROMs are lighter, more customized and contain some essential features which I miss on Sense ROMs: Bluetooth HID support.
Why get rid of sense?, its amazing!!!
you will also loose htc dialer and htc contacts
I love sense because of the widgets I keep it for that.

Agreed. I love everything about sense. It makes the phone great. If I wanted senseless I could have bought an N1.

Sense is very nice but I see that there are many roms that don't contain it. So, I was wondering if it realy is neasecery, or what is better in a non-sense rom, and if a non-sense rom is less hungry for battery
I have two Desires - one has a Sense ROM and the other is running CyanogenMod. There are one or two small things I prefer about the CyanogenMod ROM, but a great deal more I prefer about Sense, but there are others on this forum who will tell you the opposite, and be equally correct because it is just an opinion.
One thing I will say though is that you will often hear that non-Sense ROMs are "faster" than Sense ROMs. In my experience, if there is a speed difference, you can only really tell in benchmarks - in general use I feel my Sense phone is every bit as fast as my CyanogenMod phone. The same is true on battery life - both seem to sip about the same amount of power.
I don't think there is any real alternative other than trying out a non-Sense ROM for yourself and making your own choice.
Regards,
Dave
You can undervolt Sense roms of course. Also now with S-Off you can remove the Sense apps you dont need easily from the phone.
After playing with a non-Sense rom I am back to a Sense one mainly because I cold not live with the battery drain and I can now customize the Sense apps.
On Alex 1.7 and with light use I can almost go 3 days on a battery... with a non-Sense rom I could barely make 24-36h (wipe before flash and few apps installed, no sync), so it's clear in my case which rom type drains more battery.
Also this Alex 1.7 Sense rom is smooth as silk and I never get any apps or the whole phone crashing (daily occurence in aosp rom for many people?).
Aosp roms are great if you like messing around with your phone all the time, but you cant get away with the fact that Sense roms just work.
Respect to all the rom makers Sense or non.Sense.
Thanks for all the responses, you helped a lot =]

Mhh, something wasn't working properly then. With very light use I can also get 3 days battery life.
Else it's difficult to compare, because it heavily depends on how you use the phone. Playing around, surfing, ... drastically reduces battery life.
However, at the moment I use DeFroST 5.0 with HAVS kernel and the battery life looks perfect to me.

Should be fixed now. AOSP roms had a few issues, but at it seems as if they're ironed out.

Somehow true, sometimes, but sense roms also have bugs often, and a not working revision, which gets fixed in the next release.
So if you want a stable ROM use the stock. If you want some customization, use a custom sense rom. If you don't use sense features, replaced it with other apps/widgets/tools, and need some AOSP rom features, then get an AOSP rom.
i dont have a Desire atm, but i plan on getting one soon (or possibly the DHD). I like sense, especially the new one which allows you to theme it. But something i've noticed with sense compared to stock is that HTC have removed a lot of animations. Like when opening an app or closing it. It instantly opens or closes with no animation. Stock android has a sort of zoom in zoom out animations.
From what i understand, HTC have set the options to "Some animations" in the settings by default. Could someone here go into Settings, Sound and Display, Animations, and set it to All Animations and report here if they see any changes?
htc contacts, gallery , dialer , camera and video , radio, weather ,friendstream are light years and galaxies far away from the aosp android ones...
Simply, which one is better on battery life?

In addition to that, using different kernels (if you're rooted) with different governors also helps to extend battery life (depending on how you are using your phone).
Each phone is different.
I did notice that when I went to CM7 my phone runs alot smoother/faster and I get about the same battery life as I did with Stock and Fresh ROM. Sticking with CM7 then, even though I do miss some of the HTC widgets
Once I get a ROM set up and find a good kernel, I usually get pretty similar battery life on sense or CM7. I can usually get both to go 12-24hrs.
Also, once it works on CM7 all the way, Launcher Pro Plus (pay version) has a lot of widgets very similar to sense, and the Fancy Widget app in the market is pretty much identical to the sense clock with no animations.

Sense vs CM7
Been running them both recently. I have ran a CM7 build with a HC theme, Everything working (Wimax,GPS, etc.), but battery life was not as good as running my daily driver, RicSims 3.70 Turbo Sense (with stock HTC kernel #15).
I still have both GB w/HC theme and "stock" RicsSims 3.70 Turbo ROM backed up on Nandroid, and switch back and forth whenever I want. Not quite the eye candy/Linpack/Quadrant scores I get with CM7 GB, but better battery life/more solid GPS locks I get with RicSims always leads me back to RicSims ROM.
Hey guys, as the title really!
I've been a long term user of Android Revolution (flashed the day I got my Desire HD!) but I've recently switched to Cyanogen 7 to check it out, and I'm pretty impressed.
Mike1986 has just released 5.1.10 which looks awesome, I'm just wondering if anyone has any comparisons between the two ROMS in term of speed/battery life?
Thanks!
I have tried a few sense roms(including AR) and cyanogenmod pretty much beats them in every aspect(speed, battery life, general usability)...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If you want the stock HTC Sense look and feel then go with Android Revolution. However if you want Android as Google intended then use Cyanogenmod.
Personally i liked both ROM's but i just couldn't give up Sense in the end.
I'm guessing they're both similar in terms of optimisation and performance tweaks? ARHD boasts a massive amount of tweaks in their thread but I can't seem to find much regarding C7.
AR is fast and the life span of the battery is quit good but the gps signal was very poor compare to CM7 is really good on detecting gps signal. So far was not much comment except the gps problem from the sense rom.
I really like CyanogenMod more even though I love some of the functions on Sense like the clock and usb connection features eg: internet passthrough.
I tried out Android Revolution HD but in the end I went back to CyanogenMod. ARHD is just not as fast because of Sense and it takes a lot longer to boot up too.
I am using ARHD and i am very impressed, by now i dont have any intention to change it

If you wanted to read over the tweaks list for CM7 you'd have to invest a couple of hours of your time! While ARHD has plenty of tweaks, these are essential modifications of the stock ROM. CM7 is built from the ground up and has low level code modifications from some very bright minds indeed. From kernel and driver tweaks to the ARM optimisations, CM7 is always a step ahead in this respect.
Regards.
I don't use rosie (or any of the sense widgets therefore) but do like some of the sense apps - people, dialer, calendar etc are all better than stock. Does cyanogen keep these?
I used ARHD no sense for a while (tested CM 6 and a few others) but since CM7 was released I will stick to it. Simply the best and fastest rom in my opinion.
Latest CM7 Nightly + LordMod UE UUV + 26.09.04.11 Radio seems to be the best combination for my DHD
In my opinion Android Revolution is better, because it looks better for me.

no, it does not, but you can still use ARHD with the no-sense mod which keeps those "sense" apps
the only thing i like about sense rom is the frienstream and the camera.

WHAT!?!?!?! LOL!!! Dude, headset is working perfectly! I'm using it almost every day. The thing is that you have to configure your phone properly. It can easily be messed up by music apps.
Shinobee and Dod6 - you can configure CM7 to make it look the way you want. If you put a little work into it, the UI may look waaay better that Sense and won't require that much from the phone.
Just flashed arhd the other day and thought it was very nice, I've moved onto virtuous unity 2.39 now and I must say that I find it much smoother and more responsive. I'm probably gonna stick with this for a while but I've decided that my next ROM must be non sense so add to broaden my horizons, likely to be cyanogen 7 as a first choice.

second most minimal with some very useful features: oxygen
least minimal without sense: cyanogen mod
Get the oxygen version. It's the lightest and most minimalist ROM with some added features that you'll probably be thankful for. Things like notification toggles, and customizations and such.
DevNull is just too darn simple, and CyanogenMod has a lot of features.

You should add redux to oxygen, imho.
I had tried Redux, Oxygen, DevNull all works perfect. You can choose any of them. U can also try MIUI
The first that come to my mind are Oxygen and Villain... Oxygen is obviously meant to be a minimal type distribution, but Villain, I've found, is also rather minimal, and comes with a crazy kernel that saves a ton of battery life. Um there's also extra features in the Villain rom that you can explore if you really want to, but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for.
Thanks for your replys,

This is wrong. Of course it will consume power when you allow all widgets and services to sync and connect as they please. I use Launcher pro and I have not seen any noticeable difference between aosp and sense.

Gonna differ with you slightly here. Sense has a lot more "monitoring" apps than AOSP, and of course, the behemoth that is Rosie.apk doesn't help much either. While using a different launcher helps, it is not the be all and end all. Try using an actual AOSP ROM, maybe (it's just my opinion though) you'll get even better results
Now using Devnull with busybox installed via titanium backup pro. Set CPU and auto memory killer on strict. Achieved loads more battery life.
Also removed email, talk etc.
Thanks all, bates060

Yeah i guess sense hasn't much to do with power usage. Anyway imho our Desire is a couple points too weak for such an heavy interface, aosp roms run much smoother and faster: all of the sense roms i tried so far get really choppy at times...
