Link to the latest radio that doesn't require S-OFF? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my phone rooted with Unrevoked 3.1, and I wanted to try a 2.2 ROM. They all say they need a 2.xx radio. Unrevoked Forever looks great, but I'm not willing to do a change that can't be undone yet, especially when I've paid for insurance through Best Buy (I don't know that it explicitly violates the service plan, but eh). However I can only find links to the 2.15 radio, which requires S-OFF. Anyone still have the link? And does anyone have a guide to revert to stock if I need to? Thanks.

you need the leaked ota update with the 2.05 radio.
this is a patched radio that will brick your phone if you update it over itself so just be careful.
you can revert back to stock but it is a fairly involved process. i have not tried it so i can't really comment on how difficult it is but it is not a simple install.
really you are much better off using s-off but that is your call.

Well, does anyone have any experience with Best Buy and stuff like this?

Now that SOFF has been out for a week, we are starting to see people who have to return their phones with SOFF. They should be able to report back within a month to see whether anyone refused their warranty.
In the interim, let's keep our fingers crossed that unrevoked will release SON quickly.

OTA Froyo 2.2

http://community.sprint.com/baw/com...rd-winning-htc-evo-4g-beginning-tuesday-aug-3
I'm at a loss, as I remember reading it but can't find it any where to verify. When Sprint releases 2.2 Aug 3rd, since I'm rooted I should NOT accept OTA or force it to update...or ever do it, right?
Sorry for the dumb question, just wanted to make sure!
You should not.
thanks for the quick reply!
hi im using unrevoked3, how do i go about updating to froyo 2.2 when it comes out OTA? thanks!!
you dont until someone here roots it.
And go ahead and get off unrevoked now. Do a full root and use a rooted rom even if its a stock rom. You will be happier in the end. There are several methods posted in the Dev forum. Just pick one that matches the sweet version your currently running or follow the instructions posted previously in this forum.
Actually, I don't recommend full root if you can get by without it. Full root permanently screws up your PRI, even after unrooting. Until its fixed, people should only do it if they absolutely need it. You can use an ota update, but you will lose root until someone finds a way to root 2.2. Also, you can flash one of the stock 2.2 roms that are rooted. They should work with unrevoked.

It doesn't screw up your PRI, it just makes it a lower version. For some people this causes lower speeds on 3G; others are fine. But yes, once you do NAND unlock your PRI is stuck like that until someone figures out a way to update it.
I think flashing a 2.2 ROM with unrevoked and expecting it to stay rooted is a risky thing to do. I wouldn't recommend it personally. That is, unless someone has tried it and it works.

[Q] Can I roll back from s-off and radio update

Currently have my phone rooted and running Cynogenmod 6 test 8 with the stock radio. This is an issue because I can't get my camcorder to work. I have been scared to update my radio in the past because 1, I didn't want to mess it up and 2, because I wanted to be able to go back to 100% stock at any time for warranty claims and what not.
With the unrevokedforever tool it looks like it is not easier to update radios on in any direction you want. So here are my questions.
1. Is there a way for me to backup my current radio prior to loading the latest radio?
2. Is there a place to download various radio versions to troubleshoot problems 1 radio might have with a rom?
3. Is there any way to roll back after applying the unrevokedforever fix? (can I change it back to s-on?)
I really want to try out skyraider but my understanding is I need a newer radio to do so.
There are many threads on rolling back your Radio.
As for "forever" the answer is no. While I hope/believe unrEVOked may be working on "S-ON" they have not done so yet. Since so many of these phones ultimately go bad (including blown speaker), people who have run "forever" are at risk with Verizon if they check since unrEVOked did not yet release S-ON.
If you do return your phone with S-OFF, please reply back if Verizon refuses to accept it or charges you for a new phone. There is considerable debate (in line with the requests for S-ON to be released) if VZW will refuse to replace obviously bad hardware, because S-OFF is showing.
Thanks!
Are you recommending that I update my radio the old fasion way until they come out with the s-on tool?

I'm aware that there are tons of threads out there on this topic but thats kind of the problem. It seems everyone has a different method for doing this and they are all slightly confusing. With something as dangerous as updating the radio I don't want to be guessing anywhere along the way.
Can you recommend a good complete easy to follow tutorial on how to upgrade the radio to 2.x as well as a guide for downgrading back to stock if need be? It would be nice to find a guide that talked about both but I haven't found one yet.
Any ROM based off the 8/1 leak with Sense has a working camcorder. You can simply install that ROM and have a working camera/camcorder.
I thought those ROMs required the 2.x radio update. Do you have a list of ROMs based off the 8/1 leak? I thought the 8/1 leak was unstable.

Sky Raider is the one I wanted to use but I read somewhere that it requires the 2.x radio.
All of the ones I listed are required to have the

I'll post my results sometime in the immediate future as well. I jut had to order a fru today. My phone started with random reboots and boot loops this past weekend. It's a double whammy or wonderment for me... am I going to get (justifiably) charged for the replacement and am I about to enter refurb hell? We shall see.
Just as jdmba said there's currently no way to revert back to s-on.
If you look through this users videos you should find how to upgrade and downgrade your phone (for those warrenty issues).

Wish you luck ... please remember it can take up to a month to see if VZW will refuse the warranty (which will likely take the form of a charge on your monthly bill). Let us know ... and fingers crossed that unrEVOked releases S-ON soon

Incredible 2 Preloaded with 2.3.3

I received an Inc 2 as a replacement phone and it came preloaded with the gingerbread ota.
I have researched various forums and have found some conflicting information. Mainly, this thread serves as a clarification for myself and those that also have gingerbread preinstalled.
1. Is it possible to downgrade to froyo in order to root when the phone comes preinstalled with gingerbread?
2. Is there currently a way, software wise, to root the 2.3.3 gingerbread update?
3. If the answer to the previous questions is no, is it ever going to be possible to install a custom rom and/or gain root access ?
Basically I am trying to decide if I should attempt to exchange it for an Inc2 with the old froyo software installed.
Thanks in advance.
I got lucky, I already replaced fascinate with dinc2 and got it today, however I had froyo on it.
1. no
2. no
3. Wait for an exploit or buy XTC clip.
No, you cannot downgrade to Froyo without rooting the phone.
No, there is no way to root the phone via software, YET.
Yes, it is likely that there will eventually be a software root for GB phones. It might be a while, because they just came out with froyo root a few weeks ago.
You could always get in on one of those XTC clip trading/group buy deals. I would just keep your phone for the time being, because honestly, there aren't any good ROM's yet. (this goes along with the fact that the phone just recently got rooted)
You're not really missing out on anything. My phone is rooted, and I am running the OTA debloated, not much different....
AT&T did that with My ARIA when I ordered it it was supposed to have 2.1 (Eclair) on it that was rootable, but by the time I got it they had released 2.2 (Froyo) and they shipped it that way.
I didn't have to wait very long before S-OFF was achieved though.
I imagine some Dev will stumble onto a way to S-OFF the latest OTA.
But If its the latest version I as far as I know you will need an XTC-Clip to get S-OFF.
I had miui on my fassy and miss it greatly
Oh well, it was worth a shot. Guess I can deal with stock for a while, if it becomes too unbearable I'll cough up the money for a clip.
haha you'll have the official MIUI with dinc2. check miui-us's post

Drooling over that currently haha
At least sense is better than touchwiz
I saw a few guys on here claim to be able to downgrade, but I don't know the truth to that statement. If I was in your position I would look into it, though.

From what I can gather, you can only downgrade if your phone was rooted and s-off applied before the gingerbread update. In the case of phones with the preinstalled gingerbread ota it is not possible. Again, I am basically guessing but I believe this to be the case.
If it's true that you can downgrade and root, please correct me immediately lol
I think you're right, if you're S-OFF you can restore back to froyo with an RUU, but the whole point of having S-OFF is to be able to flash unofficial firmware, so if you're already on gingerbread and S-ON you're out of luck for now.
Has anyone confirmed that the XTC clip works for S-OFF on gingerbread?

You're right there sent any 'food's roms there are 'great' roms. CM and MIUI are completely stable and considering the fact that software root was just released I would say that's a great sign of things to come. Plus we have some great sense 3.0 roms that are being worked on as we speak. Bottom line is if you want to harness the best of your phone's hardware you'll need s-off.
Software s-off is not yet possible but an xtc clip definitely works. It is a hardware unlock so it doesn't matter which rom you have installed as it does its process in hboot before the rom even loads. The reason software s-off for gb isn't possible yet is because the exploit alpharevx used is patched in gb. I'm sure they'll find a way sooner or later but patience is the key.
This post is not meant to demean anyone just putting nlmy thoughts out there. Oh and by the way this thread probably belongs in the general section

[Q] Help, please. Need to Root 2.3.4 DINC

Ok, a few users here have offered advice/assistance, but I fear this problem has been forgotten.
I am stuck with an S-ON, 2.3.4 Droid Incredible, and am looking for a way to acquire root again.
This happened a few weeks ago, with the leak of the 2.3.4 OTA. Flashed S-ON via CWM (not aware I would permanently lose Root), then flashed the OTA as PB31IMG.zip in HBOOT.
Now, Unrevoked no longer roots the device. HBOOT will not allow downgrading to a 2.2 IMG, nor will it flash any downgraded Radio/HBOOT versions. I've tried them all from Dougpiston.com, even the signed ones.
I've attempted to contact the folks at Unrevoked about this issue on IRC, but I can't ever get a reliable dialogue going with anyone, and I believe they are busy working on Revolution, for Incredible 2/S & Newer devices.
Throwing my hands up, I even called Verizon, gave them an excuse to send me a replacement, just so I could start fresh with a 2.2 phone, but I am out of warranty.
I really want to enjoy Sense 3.0/MIUI, even Cyanogenmod, but the outlook is not so good.
Is there any solution I haven't tried yet? Please help.
Unless Unrevoked or someone else finds a new root method you're pretty much out of luck.

Yep, same situation here, nothing will re-root if you did the GB OTA with S-ON bootloader. just have to wait and see if somebody comes up with something new or Unrevoked comes up with a new method.
EDIT: and I'm willing to bet if you get one from Verizon it might already be 2.3.4

That's most likely true. 2.3.4 is being pushed out to the Incredible now, so they would probably run the newest RUU on their Incredible devices.
I feel your pain deadsoulboy, and I've seen your posts lamenting your situation on other threads. Only solace I can offer you is that generally the source code and RUU are made available within 30 days of the OTA, at which point the developers are completely free to tear into them with reckless abandon and hopefully the folks at unrevoked figure things out.
It's also distinctly possible that HTC will unlock the bootloader the way it has with others of its handsets, in which case you'll be back in business.
Until then, my friend, I believe you are rootless.
i have the same problem. its been a couple months.... am i still hosed?
Have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306400
I used Scotty1223's instructions a few weeks ago and it worked like a charm.
So I burnt out my Cpu on my original rooted Dinc and got a replacement however after playing around on my replacement Dinc verizon pushed the update to 2.3.4 onto my phone. I would've stopped it but I figured I would just downgrade and root again however the new HBOOT 92 didn't let me downgrade i tried the unrevoked method anyway and i got a custom recovery so i restored MIUI on my current Dinc however i seem to still be unrooted? for example Titanium Backup can't delete system apps. i still have S-on and the new HBOOT 92 however i also have a mac so i am a little stuck and confused on how to regain full root access with s-off again any hep would be greatly appreciated.

Do I Really Need S-OFF???

Sorry im a bit of a Noob and was wondering what benefit i would get from being S-Off
To be honest 25 for sunshine to get S-Off is a bit extreme but thats why im asking the question, im not here to start moaning about the cost, if i find that s-off is worth it i will get it.
Thanks
What may be worth doing is rooting the phone and purchasing sunshine if and when soff is needed to restore the tamper flag in the bootloader for warranty purposes. If you dont need to send it back dont bother paying for soff. Obviously if you want soff for other reasons then its worth it but only you would know this. Personally were both **** out of luck as its the only method to gain soff on the latest m8's. I will more than likely be getting it as i want root only but to have son bl locked and tamper flags removed whilst retaining root. For this reason alone its worth it to me but i hear ya. Still not to happy about paying it but theres no other choice atm unfortunately.
Im still not happy the bootloader has to be unlocked just to gain root. Ive always rooted my phones whilst keeping everything else stock, but again its tough **** until devs find an exploit, if they are even searching for one, who knows.

The best part of S-Off for me is that I can always be running the newest firmware, and therefore the newest ROMs. I never have to wait for my carrier to update (for example AT&T just got Lollipop a few weeks ago but S-Off users updated in January with WWE firmware)
This ^^^^
I got s-off in the beginning. So I've never had to worry about official updates, or finding firmware for my exact model (which is Telus... So harder to find). I did SuperCID, so I can flash firmware anytime, even downgrade firmware. I can use new roms, or old roms... Covert to GPE if I wanted... Etc.
Do you need it to fully enjoy the phone? No. But if you like having total control... Then yes you do.
$25 wasn't a big deal for me, for complete freedom. :good:
It depends where you live, what carrier your on, & if you want to tinker with your phone. I'm in the US, on Verizon, & want to stay up to date on firmwire & the latest android. Finally, I want full access to my device, so that's why I paid $25 no question !!!!!
Last thing does s-off void your warranty
Thanks

Not exactly. But unlocking your bootloader technically does. But with s-off, you can reverse everything you've done, including the red tampered banner, and return your device to its stock state.

And specifically what you want to tinker with. But otherwise I agree.
If you own a version that gets relatively quickly updated (GPE, Dev Edition, many WWE versions) its probably not that necessary. But on AT&T for instance, we had to wait a few months (after other variants) to get the "official" 4.4.4 and 5.0 firmwares (hboot, radio, etc.). Meaning we couldn't properly run most custom ROMs for a while without s-off.
I did s-off when I got the phone about a year ago. So I've fortunately never had such limitations. I've been running LP since January, where folks on AT&T with s-on had to wait until April for the proper firmware.
Plus, with s-off you can flash modified hboots, manually flash different radios, and "fully convert" to other versions (other CIDs, of Google Play Edition).
