2/ Whats apps i need from the Market store to run them
/

Just a little confused, i have a rooted phone, and stock / Market fixed rom
installed running froyo 2.2 (which is excellent. )
I would be very greatful.

1: backup all data on the SDCards as it will be wiped
2: if it is not already in the ROM - install ROM Manager: http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/rom-manager_fjxs.html
3: use Rom Manager to partition the SDCard. (I use 'no swap' and 512MB EXT3)
4: put the data that you backed up in step 1 back on the SDCard
5: install a ROM that supports app2sd. All ROM cooks publish if whether their ROM supports apps2sc or apps2sd+
5: reinstall all your apps. They will now be installed on the SDCard until that runs out of space.
6: done.
I have rooted my htc desire with Goldcard, installed Involkd image for recovery
do i need to run any scripts or anything to get the apps2sd to work, i currently have Market fixed rom installed, as like to keep it as close to the org rom as possible,
So if the apps2ds is not installed with the rom were can i download this from, please you give me a link,? so i can flash this to the phone. also how do i use that rom manager, what is no (Swap)
Many Thanks for the help.

No. On booting the phone will link the memory on the SDCard to your internal memory, so the phone thinks it is loading all apps in internal memory, while it is actually stored on the SDCard.

This ROM does not support App2sd. If you want to stay close to the original AND use apps2sd, use a ROM like NextSense: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742371

On creating an extra partition on your SDCard, the Rom manager will ask what size the swap part needs to be (I used 0) and what size the EXT3 (I used 512).

No problem.
This Rom seems to be very unstable, i want a rom close to the org as possible, but also to include apps2sd, or a download for app2sd how to guide please.
I love the one i got, as its hardly been messed with, bloatware drives me crazy, if its
not broke do not fix it.
Thanks

Has all the problems with Sense rom been fixed.
Is their anyway i can update the rom i have, with the Apps2ds added to it, or do it has to be embedded into the rom.?
Also when you say ext 2 3 4, do i need to format my sd card 1st. and if so how to format in the phone or by a program from the market, ie : what you suggested before.
Thanks

Just try them all. I used NextSense for a while (5.1) and for me it was very stable.
New ROMs come out every day, so just try a couple of them and see which work well for you.
At this moment I use WhiteXperience 2.0 which does not use sense, so I do not use Sense at this very moment. Btw.: WhiteXperience 2.0 is extremely fast with low batery use. For me this is more important than Sense.
With Rom Manager you can quickly create a full backup of your ROM with all the apps and data. So, create a full backup, install a new ROM, play with it for a few hours and either keep the new ROM or restore the old ROM.
This way you can quickly test a new ROM and see if it does what you need.

That is the reason I use WhiteXperience, since it is based on CyanogenMod 6.
But again it is not based on Sense, which is what you want.

I have not tried that. I have only tried ROMs that support Apps2sd.
But then again, just try it out: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-appstosd2-qBx.aspx and let us know if this works for you.
However, since Froyo uses another way of storing apps in SD, you might end up with an unstable system.

After the partition has been created you end up with a formatted, empty SDCard. So no prior formatting is necessary.

I've tried most of them if not all and NexTSense 5.3 is by far the most stable and best Rom on here. It's almost as stock as they come with Apps2sd installed. I think the only app changed is google maps to the slightly better brut version.
Define unstable? Most roms require a clean wipe before installing.
I agree with sbdags. NextSense is absolutely stable and, if you want Sense, this Rom would be the best choice to try out.

the guide worked great.
it's gone to 1.15, is it safe to do the OTA update it's asked me about? it won't remove root? or more importantly trash my desire?
** i did search on the root thread about apps2sd but it refers to using linux (which i dont have)
i did have a look at the nimbu root guide, which includes an addition to add apps2sd, but it's for an older boot loader .75 and i'm on .80
can i just follow that or do i have to flash a new rom on there?
basically, i'm happy with 2.1 really till the official comes out, just badly need a2sd.
thanks guys

If you do the OTA update you will lose root, so therefore lose A2SD.
Why don't you just install a custom 2.1 rom with A2SD already in it?
Rolf can you post some roms with apps22sd with sense please i have bbeen looking but i cant find any apart from modacos
This is simplze.... its been rooted correct? Download ROM-Manager(on the Market), flash the Clockwork recovery(its the only option by default). after that is done. go to the option PARTITION SD, choose 512 for ext, and 0 for swap. It will put the FAT32 first and the ext second as required for the A2SD+. THEN Go and download Modaco mcr3.1 rom (it is based on a stock rom, with HTC Sense) You get all the goodness ROOted fone and extras from Pauls ROM including built in A2SD+

Hi, I've rooted my phone earlier, and have tried a bunch of different rom's - in all this going back and forth, my bootloader has been upgraded from 0,75 to 0,80
If i now put this Modaco rom on my phone, and then when there is a OTA from HTC can this be installed on the phone (i know the rooting dissapears) and my phone will be unrooted and like out of the box?

Flash new ROMs
If you want Android 2.2 and Sense then try LeeDroid - very fast and very stable !
If you want to try Gingerbread before its officially released on the Desire then im finding GingerVillain excellent for day to day use
Rooting will allow certain apps more access..... and allow things like a nandroid backup.
Suggest you try ROM Manager from the market - will allow nandroid backup (ie a FULL backup of your phone in case you screw anything up). It also makes ROM flashing very easy
Apart from that.... "what can you do ?" ... try all the launchers and apps available .... LauncherPro is great, as are all the "GO" apps. Im on Launcher7 at the mo but have also tried SPB shell.
The great thing about android over apple is that you can tweak pretty much anything. try a new dialer or a new keyboard and you can always revert back to the original ...
Basically perform a nandroid backup and then play to your hearts content
.... oh ... and try the UOT Kitchen if you really want to play at customising .... looks scary at first but really isnt

hmmm. dont know with that particular ROM. I tend to download ROMs separately and the use ROM Manager to flash from SD
Try looking at the thread in the Android development subforum and it will tell you which does what. There are various flavours of app to SD solutions.
One more thing you might want to do is use ROM Manager to create an EXT partition on your SD card - this will allow apps to be stored there and save system memory. Backup anything vital on your SD card first (on your PC) though. And when it asks go for the largest partition you cam - you will fill it
(its the Partition SD Card option in ROM Manager)

hmmm. not seen that happen before. ive had the exclamation mark occasionally elsewhere (press power to get rid).
You could parition using GPARTED (if you are a linux user) or Parition Wizard (for Windows). a few people have problems with partition wizard but ive used it OK.
You an flash without partitioning but you lose some of the the benefits of App to SD apps.
Google 'android partition SD' - there seem to be lots of other ways to do this (which i havent tried)

Found a fix in a thread on here all i had to do was clear download cache and everything is working now...im currently downloading a rom...do I need to partion the sd card before using a custom rom or?
Just wipe/factory reset and clear cache in recovery.
Then flash the rom (install .zip from sd card)
If we talk about partitioning it depends on which ROM you wanna use.

Have you tried setcpu yet?
Also you can take screenshots of your phone screens if you're into that kinda thing.
Look for shoot me in the Market.
App2SD
If the InsertCoin ROM has Apps2SD+ (Not totally sure if it does) and you have the ext partition then as far as I am aware it should pretty much take care of itself.
I personally have found the Redux 1.1.1 ROM to be the best one that I have used so far. It is a GingerBread ROM and with the EXT partition done all you need to do is apply the apps_dalvik2ext-UNSIGNED
.zip to use the extra memory.
Search for Redux throug this site.
You will not regret the move.

Awake again now .....
download quick system info from the market. that should show you whether apps2sd is working.
you dont have to 'do anything' to get apps2sd working. if you have the right partition, and the ROM supports it, then apps will install there rather than on internal memory (although most apps still require a small amount of internal memory).

Any other recommended root apps i get guys?
All,
First of all I want to say that I am a newbie but I am a long time lurker. I have read all about Data 2 sd and A2sd and all the rest of it.
I have an sd card with a FAT32 format and EXT4 format.
I have tried my best to follow the supernova tutorial ( http://supernova.droidzone.in/?cat=6 ) and it is really pissing me off at this stage as it does not work for me.
I have flashed with leedroid rom, the internal memory got better but data2sd did not work and now the rom is crashing. It has to go.
I just want to get this right as I have tried for months and it is coming to the stage where the phone has to go.
I have S-on and I will not be turning it off, fully rooted etc.
I can run cyanogenmod7 but I have a sense rom and so this is my quiff!
Please please please, can someone help me. I have installed lots of files and I want to start fresh. All I want is to install apps...that is all!!!!
Thank,
Alan

So to use this you should download nad flash/install via recovery the CyanogenMod 7.1 rom and Gapps package (to have Market installed because it's not included in rom). After that you need to read this thread and have fun with unlimited internal storage.
edit: links from thread about int2sd aren't working so I'll give you mine from dropbox (just wait about 15 mins when I'm uploadnig them).
When you have CM7 and gapps installed you need to flash first INT2SD2-update.zip it will prepare cm7 for getting int2sd and then you should flash CM7-stable-INT2SD2.zip

Thanks a million! It works on Cyanogen med 7 for me and everything runs stable on this rom. This is my 2nd place rom if all else fails!
However, I want a sense rom with data2sd/2ext ....basically lots of internal memory.
I have done a full wipe
Installed leedroid 3.3
started the rom, let it load.....memort 22mb
went into recovery
flashed data2sd
tried to restart but it wont, it is stuck on the htc logo and I had to restore it.
The Leedroid rom works perfectly on its on as does the supernova rom but when i try and install data2sd it does not work or the phone will not boot up.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know

there's an FAQ for that Leedroid rom which i found very useful.
to maximise space you can use data++ version, cm7r2 hboot, and dalvik to sd, all explained on that link
it's not data2sd, and it won't seem like you're internal memory has gone up, but it's plenty of space for apps trust me. i had something close to ~140 apps with 130MB still free on internal before i switched ROMs. that free space would only get used up slowly by app data
if you do it this method, keep apps on 'internal', no need to 'move to SD', it'll keep them to the partition this way.
Hi - this is an old topic but I've not been able to find an answer to this question...
My wife has a stock Desire GSM locked to T-Mobile UK with their stock 2.2 ROM. It's not rooted and there's no custom recovery. She's always running into the 15MB 'low storage' warning even with as much automated 'App2SD' as possible.
As a result *I* get a lot of earache about 'this bloody phone' and I'd like it to stop.
I don't want to flash a custom ROM, but if I root the phone with unrevoked, will I be able to take advantage of an 'sd-ext' partition on the MicroSD card so she can have a gig of apps rather than the ****ty 140MB on the internal storage?
What other apps / scripts / packages would be needed? The current ROM works fine - I would rather not replace it if possible since the settings / apps restore will be slow and painful.
Cheers,
Gavin.
Check Supernova rom. It's the stock Gingerbread update from HTC plus the space. I understand that you don't wanna flash a different rom but it's worth considering.

Hm, interesting... so for that I'd just run unrevoked and assuming that installs ClockworkMod recovery OK, I'd copy the Flashable ZIP from http://supernova.droidzone.in/?page_id=24 to the SD card and flash that from recovery?
But yeh, keeping the existing ROM would be gold
Yeah in a nutshell. But first check what hboot version you have. You may need to run Revolutionary instead of Unrevoked. Also once you got that part done, instead of using clockworkmod recovery search for 4ext recovery touch its a lot better. Then with that recovery you can partition your sd card. Yeah its a lot of work.
Read the supernova thread or the website where you can download the rom. If I am not mistaken you can actually flash the rom without losing data. Just read the instructions carefully as its a little bit different from the usual process if I can remember correctly.
That's the closest rom where you can get the stock goods from htc. Check the everything desire thread on the dev section there might be some other roms there that is stock plus apps2sd.
via xda app
If you just don't want to change your rom, you can use Link2SD. It is found on the market, with it you can control which apps are moved and what is moved (app, dalvik, libs). It also has an "auto-move" feature, so your wife won't need to move everything manually. But of course you'll first have to create the ext4 partition.
Teppics stock rooted GB Rom is also worth a look, and you might also get away with not wiping data. Once rooted recommend download Titanium Backup from market and use it to backup user apps, then do a full nandroid backup before doing anything else. Any problems restoring nandroid will get you back to where you were. Also, 4Ext recovery is good but this requires S-OFF and is a separate process if you root via Unrevoked. Read up and read it again before starting, will stand you in good stead.

Ahh "Link2SD" - that looks like a winner - I knew there would be a solution but no amount of Google-fu opened it for me... Link2SD - that's the magic incantation )
I'll give that a shot =)
As for the Unrevoked part - I can't do a full Nandroid backup until I get past that part.. so fingers crossed
Solved - SD-ext on stock 2.2 ROM?
Just wanted to follow up on this to say that I successfully ran Revolutionary against the T-Mobile locked phone (HBOOT 0.93.0001), applied the Superuser-3.0.3-efgh.zip as linked from the Revolutionary FAQ.
Finally I made a second FAT32 partition on the SD card since the phone doesn't seem to have ext2/3/4 support built in... and now we've been using Link2SD quite successfully =)
Thanks for the pointers + help, peeps
hello everyone
so i just got my new HTC desire 816 dual sim ( after an old desire 816 which has factory issues ) . with the old device i installed CM11 the unofficial 4.4.4 and installed mount2sd and everything was good
now i got the new device and i'm a bit scared of installing a new rom , so i'm thinking of rooting , adding the injection support then installing mount2sd but i'm not sure about the compatibility of all this mix with the stock
so here what i'm going to do and i need your opinions
1- root the device => guide followed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775801
i don't know what the wp_mod.ko module do so any tips would be great
2- installing Injector to enable injecting the init.d support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256647
my device is not on the list so i'm a little bit scared :/
3- installing mount2sd https://github.com/SpazeDog/mounts2sd which i used before with CM11 and was fine
OR
A friend suggested that i install the new CM11 official and then install the mount2sd and done ??
ps* i'm using a lot of apps and i like installing everything so basically i need A LOT of storage for apps and their data and obviously the stock only gives 3GB which is nothing
ps* i kinda like the stock so anything other solutions with the stock would be perfect

The wp_mod.ko file is so that you can enable writing to the SD in the system on stock.
This is basically what allows mount2SD and link2SD to work and init.d support might be needed for both as well so pair that file with your injector and your good to go.
I personally am able to download and put any files I want to the SD thanks to the wp_mod.ko alone. Having init support will allow it to just run scripts on startup and in combination with the wp file it will allow scripts involving the SD card.

I have a feeling that you've hit on a solution to a similar issue that I'm having. At least, we seem to share the same thought process regarding the problem though I'm more on the Link2SD camp.
Make a NANDROID backup, try it, cross your fingers and give it a go. :good:
Keep us posted.

Only the apps and data that would normally move to an external card. What I can't move are the apps that Titanium Backup would force to external card. The easiest option would be to partition the external card with an ext partition and then use an app like Link2SD to mount it. To do that though, without S-OFF, requires that the OP work.
Even though I'm rooted, I don't have anywhere near enough knowledge to be able to safely*recover if anything goes wrong. ?

There is no S-OFF for our device, and if there was you wouldn't get it by flashing CM11 lol.

You can't! There is no way to S-OFF our device. You are stuck with S-ON. That's it. Unlocking the bootloader, flashing a recovery, and a custom ROM. Those all have nothing to do with S-OFF. Our phone simply doesn't have S-OFF.

Your screenshot shows you trying to install the Xposed Framework, not Mount2SD. Also, the screenshot shows (and the original topic clearly states) that if you're S-ON, you can't install Xposed Framework whilst booted. It is offering you to install through Recovery. If you click OK, the app will automatically boot into recovery and install Xposed Framework. If you had followed the guide about installing Xposed Installer, you would have seen to change the install option from Classic Write to Recovery. You would then bypass the message in your screenshot and gone straight to the install through recovery.
You must be rooted and have a working busybox and recovery installed for Xposed Framework to install/work.
Also, Xposed Framework will not make any bit of difference to Mount2SD or any apps like that. They will still not work. However, Xposed Framework does have some great modules that tweak a phone.
