i was thinking of purchashing the clingo (http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=43138&cat=4996) but im not sure if its worth it. i bought a few soundgate m2's for back up because theyre awesome and very low profile for my car and truck.
i was debating if i should get the clingo or build my own custom dock base and attach the soundgate to it since i have a couple of extra soundgates.
the clingo looks nice and the stand sounds like its very sturdy from the videos ive seen. any suggestions?

I know there a few threads about windshield mounts but none of them have what I'm looking for. I am looking for a windshield mount for my 2000 Ram 1500. I want it to mount on the BOTTOM on the windshield and come to the edge of the dash so it will need to be fairly long. I switch between the Seidio Innocase II surface and the Seidio 3500mah extended battery so I need something that will accommodate both of those. I also need it to switch between portrait and landscape. The Kensington windshield mount for the Iphone looks like it would be great but it doesn't look like it will allow me to use my extended battery.
What have you guys found that might work for what I need?
ive been using this...
Scosche IUHW7 Windshield Vent Mount Kit.
its inexpensive it sitcks... it turns and fits all kinds of stuff
I think I got it for 12 bucks at walmart

Mountek MT5000
I bought this after finding a thread about it on another forum. Best accessory ever. Extremely quick and easy to install, rotates portrait/landscape ... can't complain about anything. It uses your CD slot - you just put it in the opening and clamp it down.
It's actually started to become a problem because I'm constantly distracted while driving by my cellphone now. It's just right there up in my face, gorgeous and begging to be played with.
Can't post the link since I'm new here ... but you can Google it easily.
I like the Clingo mount so much, I am going to mod the Sedio Active Innocase I have to make it work with it (smooth.velvty doesn't stick to Clingo).

I've used Ram Mounts in my Jeep, good stuff!

I've got a cheap Arkon universal mount I use in my car. Works great with my ballistics case or naked.
Dunno how long it is but I have am ikd z car and its mounted to the bottom of my windshield and comes to the dash edge. Probably 6in or more. It was tricky too cause my car has a high rake angle and I wanted it mounted so it wouldn't show Tue mount at all in videos. It does block half the camera but it clamps hard enough that you can scoot it up and get the camera free.

When in its case, mine fits in my Garmin windshield mount

Why not just get the seidio innotraveler? It will fit both the extended battery and innocase power their website. I have it and love it, it actually extends pretty far.

Because the seidio one is $50! Thats crazy for a windshield mount. I found one at bestbuy yesterday its by rocketfish and made for the iphone but it works with our phone to. It doesn't come to the edge of the dash but it will work.
I use an OtterBox commuter case and it is awesome. The case is larger and heavier, but also stays on the phone properly unlike all lighter ones I have tried.
My only issue is there us no freaking way that it will fit in the genuine samsung vehicle dock.
Currently I'm gathering pieces to fabricate my own dock that uses the genuine suction cup arm. You would need the samsung kit plus my dock, or will have an extension so it will stay standing upright on a desk, all while using the case. I'm thinking any smaller case could also use it with the addition of stick-on rubber spacers to make it fit snug.
I figure there may be a small market for it, prototype will like be made from aluminium on a cnc, but would wear out the case going in/out so will use a plastic injection moulder once finalised. May cnc plastic initially if can get my hands on a block.
So far the plan is for a dock that it slides into, like the samsung desk dock, but with the fittings to attach to vehicle kit arm.
Thoughts/comments? Foreseeable demand?
Pricing I anticipate to be roughly half to cost if the genuine vehicle dock.. So by the time you buy both it adds up. I think would be worth it, and would buy one myself if available.
At least, so far have found nothing similar...

I had a similar problem for a different reason, my SGS2 has no case but is quite fat due to the Momax 2700 mAh battery I use.
I ordered an "EXOMOUNT exogear" car holder as it has some sort of claw-lock mechanism that appears to work well with really fat phones. I have not received it yet so can't comment. 25€ on ebay.
It has no lighter-charger, but you can get one of those for peanuts.
Your plan sounds pretty interesting tho, nothing like a well-built custom product.
Exogear's Exomount
Yes I can vouch for Exogears' Exomount.
I've had it for 3 months on my S2 with CaseMate Pop, and works like a charm.
Exomount has a large jaw and can clip just about any smartphone bordering the size of a tablet.
It sticks awesomely on the dashboard. It will stick on any surface, including glass/windshield, but I prefer it on the dash.
If you don't believe me, look at the youtube video demonstration.
Yeah I looked at various mounts, my main motivation is I want it to charge at the same time, and want the charging part built into the dock so I don't have to dock and then plug in a loose cable. Docked and charging in one motion.
Hopefully will get time to draw it up in 3D tonight.

I'm very interested in this project. I'll keep an eye in this thread!
Have started the design. Hopefully will order the MicroUSB for the base this afternoon to measure up that part.
Guys
This may save you some time......

You can use it with standard RAM Mount fittings (which come in a wide range of different types and sizes).

Have fun
Thanks, had a surge of laziness when I saw that haha
I think I'll build mine as a personal project then instead of as a possible commercial project - though mine will have charging built into the dock Will keep posted.
Looking for some feed back from anyone whose purchased this car mount...What is your take?

Neat mount, gonna pick one up
I've never used the one you posted but if I may suggest a few extra bucks for this one: http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Mobile-...ST18/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1329510397&sr=8-3
It is very very high quality, very sturdy, and is way cheaper than it should be. Hopefully I'll get a review up in my free time. It fits the E4GT with the TPU case also.
Can anyone recommend me a good car holder for the phone? I want to get a sturdy good quality one, because I want to use it as a GPS navigation
Hey, I'm using Windowseat Mobile car dock (without the hands-free part). It's really great, the mount has an adjustable height supporting multiple devices, it's sturdy, looks and feels good. Here is the link
http://store.griffintechnology.com/iphone/windowseat-mobile-handsfree-car-kit
woah a bit too expensive for my liking.
Any other recommendations?

I got this one for my X10... Cheap, nice looking, working...when I have order it I thought it is a crap, but what you need from a card holder??? It fits, holding good and don't fall of the glass... Nice.
What does everyone think of this?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoneM8-Omni...en-Blackberry/dp/B005XYJDY2/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
I think it is not good...because it is not enough flexible to choose a good position and the phone can fall out of it! I would recomend this one... The car charger is good and powerfull, not bad holder, as I said got it for X10... Some additional case.

I'm using some el cheapo generic phone mount, works just fine.
I had been using the Mountek nGroove Snap for almost two years, but the thing they don't tell you in the product description is that the Mountek will compress and destroy the foam protector in your CD Player. When you take it out, your CD Player will look like a Hillbilly's smile.
I just bought a new car, and I didn't want that to happen again. I've always been interested in ProClip's offerings, since they are custom molded to fit your car, but the high price always put me off. For my car, I'd have to shell out 30 bucks for the custom mold and another 50 for the adjustable iOauto Pro Magnetic mount. Also, I couldn't find any posting anywhere that said that the iOauto Pro would hold the Nexus 5 securely without adding the included metal plate. I prefer my Nexus 5 naked.
My solution combines the Mountek nGroove and ProClip that more or less works perfectly with my Nexus 5 (I'll get to the drawback in a second)
Since I already had the nGroove, all I needed to buy was the Custom ProClip mount for my car ($30) and an AMPS ball adapter ($9.95), which I found on Amazon (search for iBOLT AMPS Adapter Plate).
The iBOLT comes with screws that are a little too big for the ProClip mount, so what I did was widen the holes on the ProClip with a power drill until they fit. Since both the iBOLT and ProClip use the AMPS standard, the holes lined up perfectly.
I'm happy with the finished product, although the ball on the iBOLT and the ball of the Mountek have a different texture. This made the Mountek piece sit a little too snug against the iBOLT ball. I'm thinking about sanding down the iBOLT ball until it can click into place.
Thanks for reading!
that looks awesome. id love to see some more pictures of it actually in the car. i might have just found my car clip!
Thanks for the setup. I was looking for a solution to this exactly. BTW you can take that yellow sticker off if you didnt know.
Thought that Proclip mount looked familiar. I have an XV Crosstrek and it looks like you either have an XV or impreza.
