[Q] Is there a thread for ROM comparisons? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched for "ROM comparison" and found a listing of all the ROMs here. Is there a single thread that addresses the differences in ROMs here?
Thank you in advance.

theres a thread in the wrong section asking about it

Thank you, will go check this out. As for your last comment, isn't THIS the developer's section? I'm asking about Evo ROMs specifically, not generic Android ROMs.

Yeah, you posted this in the wrong "section" so it was a "since we're already here thing." I meant if you are curious about the different "features" then you could always check the [ROM] threads themselves as they usually outline key information / additions / things missing / removed etc
The comparison links were more about comparing performance between ROMs, guess that was what I initially thought you meant. Sorry if it wasn't.

EVO Wiki (which is above us) can link you to a listing of all the ROMs, some may be scattered throughout a few pages but that'll link you to em.

You've been very helpful and patient, thank you. Will go check out the wiki.
I was hoping for a place where all the ROMs would be listed and there was a feature comparison as you guessed along with a performance comparison.
I just updated to the latest Fresh ROM and was wondering what the others offer that makes them unique. Fresh doesn't include TI Backup, he emailed me last night and I wish he would but it's ROM and his choice. So, I'd like to find one that has TI Backup pre-installed. I use this daily and every time I have to restore from a ROM switch. Or just for sanity's purposes.

there is - check out Neif's grid in the wiki or general section (I'm actually kind of surprised he hasn't made an appearance here yet )

Sorry I'm slow at finding this. But if you check my sig, you will find a chart comparing all the main ROMs, they compare battery, performance, what features are working, and few additional details that make each ROM unique. Some of the cells are still blank and are being filled in as I get the data.
As far as having a ROM with TI pre-installed, most do not. Most devs rarely put on any other apps that they did not personally make themselves. Some do add apps such as there personal app for updates/profiles, google search, updated gmail/facebook, ect.
I hope this helps

Ok after browsing all these ROMS and basically starting to get a headache lol, can anyone recommend a rom thats stock froyo (or close to as I use the football app and the nascar app etc) that also allows me to tether wifi. Ive probably looked at over 7 roms maybe more and they all seem custom in some way shape or form which im not interested in. I did look at the stock rooted 2.2 but I dont think it suits my needs, unless theres something im missing about tethering

Once you are rooted, the wireless tether application for root users will work on every rom. You can use any stock rom of your liking and then add the wireless tether app from the market and you will be all set.
Wow! Seriously?! Why in dev section?! I'm sorry to be rude but I'm getting tired of ppl always posting non-developing stuff on the DEVELOPMENT section. I almost never comment but I'm tired of this.
Please, next time post it on the Q&A section.
Thanks.
Edit: I'll be glad to help if mods move it to Q&A.
Stock froyo like sense 2.2 rooted? There's that option, if you mean like stock android froyo ala 2.2 there is CM6

OP,
I understand your headaches since I am basically wanting the same thing. But after a little looking around, think that the ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352 is what you are looking for. They use to have a thread on just ROMs, how they have been modified, etc.
Also krazyconejo, maybe this is a way for a developer to help out a user? I know that the developers love to have their ROMs used, or at least some input instead of jumping on a guy, maybe you should strongly suggest for future education. Sometimes it is better to coach a fellow member than hit him over the nose with a rolled up news paper (figuritively speaking) - without being disrespectful to you.
Krazy..ive spent the past few hours searching and reading this section of the forums, so excuse me for posting here and upsetting you lol. Since this is a question about ROMS specifically and this section has them all listed, I felt it would be better answered here, then in a general Q&A section. I tend to value the replies I get in a specific forum topic more then a general one
like I said before I usually don't say anything and just ignore it. But if I come to the developing section, I expect to see that and not waste my time with this.
As for OP sorry for being mean but if you would had posted this in the right place, I'm petty sure someone would had helped.
*Not gonna respond anymore. OP if you still help pm me and let's just let this thread die.
Thanks.
if you want the football and nascar app...just flash any rom and install those apks.

Sorry, I didn't get past this part. I'm still too busy reeling from the discovery that someone actually uses those two apps to recommend that you use DamageControl 3.5 or something based from it.

This may be true however it is still the wrong place to post this. questions go in questions forum or in the thread of a specific rom/kernal if they pertain to it. since this is a general questions about roms and doesnt fit into a specific rom thread it belongs in the Q&A forum. Most of the people who will give you a true answer from dev also frequently go to the QA section. also yuo will get flamed less and not have to wade through as many posts telling you that you posted wrong.
To answer your question. You can use wifi tether with stock rooted froyo or almost any custom rom. you can still use football/nascar you can try Damage control 3.5 which will let you easily select what you want to have or not of the sprint apps and have the rest removed. you can also use roms like fresh Evio and baked snacks and install the .spk for those 2 apps.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Baked snack then install nascar and football apk. If you need them im sure they are floating around here somewhere if not pm me.
You could also try fresh. He puts all the apks he removes in a folder on your sdcard.

lol thanks for all the info...Kinda new to the whole rooting thing and with all the roms flying around and the 100+ pages for each its alot to read over but I tried as much as I could
And yes I am a nascar fan and a football fan..And since Verizon has the good app lol..I use what I got!!!
You could also probably find those .apks by browsing for a folder of the Fresh Removed .apks folder that comes with the Fresh ROM, or just find some Fresh user to upload them for you.

A Good Suggestion….

Please allow me a suggestion.
Posts such as this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971904) with more than 100pages and 5000(five thousand!!!!) are a waste and totally counter productive
No one will read it and only contributes for a mess and confusion.
This should be updated!!!!!!
Original post should be updated with the newer information and then the respective replied posts.... Just wipe all the old information regarding old releases etc.
How it is at the moment can't help anyone.

Freshest update for you man :
I am running DarkYorzua 2.2.2 which is so smooth and speedy rom
based on latest oxygen release but with themed apps and more in the package
The amount of pages could mean 2 things...
1) Theres lots of bugs and/or questions for said bugs.
2) Theres lots of positive feedback and this indicates a popular ROM.
I don't see the harm in it, you don't have to read 5000 pages as I guarantee, the complaint or bug that's on page 113 is more than likely fixed by page 200 so its safe to say by page 5000, you'd think most bugs would be ironed out?
Also, some people do actually use the search function of this forum as well ya know?

Even if you use the search and the result is found in the middle of a post like this, we will then be taken to a middle of a god dam chaos.... C'mon I'm sure you are aware of this common prase "go clean your room" If you look at this sentence in prespective this should be a valuable life lesson for those who want to learn with it...

Questions or Problems Should Not Be Posted in the Development Forum
Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to General

[Q] Should we start a consolidated information thread?

I was wondering if maybe we could use a post to organize some of the Mods/Tweaks we as A100 users can do. Especially since it may be a while before we have a custom ROM. Seems like a more central list of mod options would be useful. I would be happy to work on this.
Things we could incdlude
=======================
Improving Poor Viewing Angle(everyone complains about this)
-Turn the device upsidedown, as someone else posted a while back if you turn the
A100 so the "home" button is on the left instead of the right.
ALLOT of things seem to work better. The viewing angle is good,
the front viewing camera is no longer under my hand, and the
antenna is in a better position too I bet. It almost seems like that was the original orientation
Rooting(a100 and now a101 too)
- temp and perm install/uninstall, script & by hand)
Status of Custom ROM Development
Status of safe mods for: Build.prop, init.d, gps.conf, etc
- what mods can be done, the result, the versions tested on, etc
Making Recovery Images
-known methods, risk/benefit of them , links to instructions and files
Using Recovery Images
-known methods, risk/benefit of them , links to instructions and files
Boot Animations
-known methods, risk/benefit of them , links to instructions and files
Hulu fix(s)(lib mod, or huluplus(working on A100?))
-known methods, risk/benefit of them , links to instructions and files
Hidebar, Honeybar, NOT-VERY-INTERESTING BAR
-risk/benefit of them , links to instructions and files
UOT Kitchen(?)
-Can we use it? what features work?
General Suggested Utility Apps List Maybe
- I know the forum has an apps section already. Im just thinking the most basic things. Stuff like which busybox, terminal, file manager, etc are known to work well on our a100.
Maybe a running list of Any known major FUBAR apps. or features within apps that would for sure brick ur device.
Sounds more like a general FAQ to me, but a good idea. All of the mods I've released so far are in my sig for this very reason.. I was receiving lots of pms (hey where's xyz mod) lol!
Only bad thing is who's going to keep it up to date? Also it'll need to be stickied so that it doesn't get lost in general.

Yep. I wouldn't be able to stickie it far as I know. I just keep thinking we have allot of cool stuff that can be done. However it takes hours and hours of reading to start to find that out . So I'm thinking it might be something I can do to contribute.
It would almost certainly help new comers figure what they have available.
I am new to the A100, so this is great idea for people in simular positions.

good idea...but honestly compared to the other devices forums i frequent this one is the cleanest..mostly because we actually dont have a whole lot of mods for our A100s. once a device has custom roms, radio releases, kernels and 18 different rooting methods thats when things get lost. the one thing that always was handy was creating a device wiki, that way its one page to keep up to date and can include everything. just the way ive seen things..when i first got my desire z the xda wiki was the best source for concrete information and guides.
just my .02 i still like your idea dont get me wrong! but maybe making a wiki would be a better idea than just a sticky?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I'd say that a kind of central knowledge base would be a great idea. Back in my Desire days they had just this sort of thing in the dev forum for kernels, sense and non sense roms etc. It was fantastic.
Spreading the word is one of the best things we can do to help others help themselves ;-)

Rooted Stock AT&T ROM for the i747

I've looked around and just can't find what I'm looking for - basically what I'm trying to locate is a stock, root injected ROM for the AT&T i747 - complete with the AT&T taskbar icons, Touchwiz but with tethering enabled.
I've tried the nightlies from CM (now stable as of an hour ago) and a few others, but after experimentation I've concluded that there were a lot of things that AT&T/Samsung actually did right in their version and I'd like to get it and add the missing functionality and tools that I want to use.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
There's sticky with them in the development forum.

I have asked a advice ! It's very different!!!
Go to dev section
Click on threads that say [ROM]
Read feature lists
Look at screen shots
Consider options
Narrow choices
Read feature lists again, compare
Read user comments
Critical thinking
Pick one
Flash it

Best ROM threads are not allowed. Everyone has their own preference, try out a few, look at features and see what works best for you.
