Did HTC remove the stock android launcher? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running stock 2.2 and tried to remove htc sense only to be greeted with ...... htc sense. I like sense but i was just curious to try the stock launcher. Did htc actually remove it from the build or is it there but they have some lock on it?

They didn't "remove" it, they just didn't put it there in the first place.

HTC Sense Live Wallpaper (Multi Colored Bubbles) Working On CyanogenMod????

Is there any way to get this working???

No, All HTC sense components need the Sense Framework. Which means you need a sense ROM.
There is a clone that is on the marketplace, I forgot the name but it looks 85% as good as he HTC sense LW.

Non-Sense

How do you disable sense on my Evo without rooting? I heard some nonsense about force closing sense outer whatever but it doesn't work, just curious.
All answers/suggestions are much appreciated.

You can't. Only thing you can do is use a different launcher like LauncherPro or ADW.
Them what was all this nonsense about just force closing htc sense?

Exactly what you said, it's nonsense.
If you don't like Sense, just flash a rom that's AOSP based and there won't be any Sense on it to disable.
It used to be that you could shut down Sense but I think HTC fixed it so you couldn't in one of their updates.

HTC fixed the bug that allowed you to forcecrash sense ui. It used to stay not running until you reset the phone or relaunched sense (assuming you had a diffrent launcher as default). they fixed that so now it jsut restarts sense either way.
your best bet is to root and flash a AOSP rom or flasha sense rom and use one of several sense removal scripts which will remove the ui and many widgets etc while keeping full functionality
I know all that I was just curious to see how a non rooted, non sense-less experience would be without installing all the hipster launchers and themes from the marketplace.

[Q]Turn HTC Sense Off[Q]

So I saw a video on YouTube on how to disable HTC Sense and use the default stock launcher, however that device was running 2.1 and so it won't work on my device...
I was just wondering is there anyway to disable sense without installing a separate ROM on 2.2, thanks.

I think the only way is with a new rom
You can't turn in off, as you can't install Sense on a non-sense rom.
However, you can install a different launcher, i think the gingerbread stock launher is on the market.
Because HTC Sense is built onto the Android interface, shouldn't closing HTC Sense enable the stock launcher? All HTC did was take the 2.1 nexus Rom and write Sense into it, they never removed a thing so surely there is a way?

Ahh thanks, they should give people a choice between Sense and the Stock Launcher. Fair do's people should just get the Nexus if that's what they are looking for, but the Nexus in the UK was only available on one network, and I for one completely prefer the standard Launcher, HTC Sense 1.0 (Desire Version) is very buggy and laggy.
It surprise me that you know how HTC made Sense and at the same time you don't even know what it is.
Like mentioned by Surfy89, Sense is way more then the htc launcer (rosie). If you want to get rid of Sense you need to flash a alternative rom (AOSP).
If you are talking about using a different launcher then the sense launcher (rosie), you can just install a alternative launcher from the market. So you do have the choice to use whatever launcher you want. Al tough the sense widgets won't work with a alternative launcher.

This is the video I saw: YouTube
I got the wrong info, sorry for wasting time
Even the comments under the video are saying it's an old feature.
Either install different launcher from the market (Launcher Pro, Zeam, Go Launcher ... plenty of them) or root and flash a custom AOSP rom. That's the way to go.

[Q] People Widget

Hello.
If I pull HTC People Widget from stock ROM & install on CM7, that widget will working on ADW Launcher or not?
Nope.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks for quick reply.
I don't think anybody has ever been able to pull the HTC widgets out, and make them work on non-Sense ROMs. They are too integrated into the Sense framework. Plus, they only work with the HTC launcher, even on Sense ROMs.

HTC Sense & custom launchers

Recently I've switched to nova launcher because sense was making my phone lag when I used Opera Mobile browser or other heavy apps.
Is it necessary now to freeze HTC Sense because it still runs in background & takes a lot of RAM & I am not using its launcher anymore?
Also is there a way to retain the Sense camera features somehow while the Sense is freezed? I only want the Sense launcher go away, the sense camera is quite nice.
My phone is rooted with custom ROM SuPrimo v30 installed.
