Question. If I am using sense but have a launcher pro setup does it in any way run in the background and drag down performance and battery. Im a huge fan of both and am having a hard time doing away with one or the other. Any input obj this would be greatly appreciated

I dont know if it slows anything down but I do know that I wont use anything else but launcher pro. I luv luv luv it. so many screen and dock settings. I haven't noticed it being any slower. By the way, if you have launcher pro plus I would like to know what the big difference is from regular plus.

One of the biggest reasons I bought plus, was to be able to resize my widgets on my home screen. I'm not certain what other features it gives you.

LauncherProPlus and the Sense Launcher are mutually exclusive apps. if you use one you dont need the other...so why are you still using both?
once I went with LPP i never went back. i can confirm that Sense runs in the background. I completely removed the sense launcher and almost anything else that was sense, since you can't use any sense widgets on LPP. everything is working fine for me
I prefer ADW, but I just wanted to say in calkulins ROM thread he has a zip that will remove sense for you. I used it on his rom and MYNS WORM 2.2 without any issues.
Awesome guys. Thanks for the input. To my knowledge there are only two versions of launcher. There is pro and pro plus. I have calks remove sense zip. Ive been going back and forth with sense and lpp for a while now. I think im gonna fully jump on board with the lp band wagon.

Is there any way to disable / kill the sense process (without having root and running a ROM without sense)?
Why not root. With the newest version of unrevoked, it gives you full root. S-off, nand unlocked. And if you need to turn in your phone you just flash the stock non rooted rom. Root gives you so much more! Just my 2 cents

I loved using lpp but I hated not having my transparent status bar so I use sense using warm2.2 i can customize everything I want and have my transparent status bar

My fix for the notification bar was to check the option to hide it. That really dressed up the screen.

I'm a big fan of LPP too. Sense will run in the background unless you remove it (such as using the above mentioned script). If you just Kill Sense, it will come back so that isn't really an option.

Launcher Pro is a great Home replacement. Like Sense. I was just asking what the popular to go about using it was. Like do all LPP (Launcher Pro Plus is the paid version, 1.99, well worth it) remove sense, i mean you cant use anything sense related inside LP ie. widgets. If it runs it in the background why keep it

I strip Sense out of the ROM's I use. I used to use LPP, but have switched to Go Launcher.
The best cure to keep sense out of your rom is to go with CM6
going with CM is a surefire way of going senseless. but sense based rom are better period. why? you get full use of your Evo! hdmi and 4g. Im on Calks Evio2 rom using LPP and then ran calks remove sense zip and i have never had better battery life. 31 hours with 5% left at plug in.
As for getting sense back. just reboot into recover, wipe cache and dalvik 3x each and reflash whatever rom you had to begin with. wont change anything except give you have the sense launcher.
the best setup for LP is to flash Myns themed LP zip, and then update from the market. then remove sense. this gives you great looking widgets. if you use plus anyways. im always open to help. so pm if needed or hit me up here
I have been using sense ui virt rom.
I loved it but noticed a bit of lost of speed when I flashed cyanogen v7.
Cyanogen was really fast for me compared to virt. rom.
What do u guys prefer?

Well sense is slower due to the fact its "packed". Well I really like sense, it looks really good. Love the wigets the most but I like cyan more because.... umm I just like it better lol.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Sense widgets aren't as fast, but I do love the Sense clock app, the Sense clock widget, contacts widget and photo gallery widget.
the calendar widget is very laggy compared to Launcher Pro, and the actual dock/launcher bar at the bottom is a very wasteful way to use precious screen real estate. I mean - who really needs such a large button for the phone?
Launcher Pro/ADW Ex and other launchers make it really easy to save screen space by having scrollable launcher/docks...but with Sense it just wastes space.
I am using a GingerVillain ROM with ADW Ex and it works pretty well. But I am missing some of those Sense apps/widgets!
cyanogenmod is faster ,has better battery life, its more up to date and is more customizable.
sense/virtouos has much better apps and widgets such as camera,contacts,keyboard,phone,etc...
it really comes down to personal preferences.
I personally have set them both exactly the way i like and installed all the
apps that i need on them and made a back up so i regulary change between
them whenever i feel like it.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I like Sense better now than Vanilla. I have been using the vanilla for a long time now and then tried switching to sense a week ago and I love it.
I'm not a fan of the sense homescreen though but I love the camera app, phone app, gallery, and the minor quirks you get with it.
The only downside though is that IMO it drains twice as fast as stock.

Is there a camera app like sense on the market? I'm missing the touch to focus.

Sense, no question. The superior camera, music, and contacts apps are a no-brainer, IMO. I don't use the Sense launcher, though - LauncherPro for me. I tried Cm7 and honestly didn't see that big of a difference. I get 12-15hours of moderate use with Virtuous v1.0, which is the best Sense ROM out there.

What do u think about the speed on virtuous vs cyonagen
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
CM is definitely faster, mainly because its built for that, specifically. Sense is built to give a better user experience. Apples and Oranges. With the stock Virtuous kernel, I don't notice a significant speed difference vs CM.

Without sense. No question.

Is there any way to get the alarm clock to put a notification in the notification bar on the Sense UI like it does in the Vanilla ROMs? Everytime I hit snooze I wonder if I hit the right button. I'm currently using Virtuous v1.0.0 for the G2/DZ.
I like the sense over the "vanilla" the G2 came with. I've been using virtuous since the day it came out and have loved it. I haven't used CM but I' am comfortable with sense
i currently use MIUI but i loved sense when i used it the only thing i didint like was that you couldnt get it to not autocap , i know it sounds stupid but its really one of my pet pev's , i switch back and forth from now & again but does anyone know how to make it so it doesent autocap on sense virtu rom ?

So I saw a video on YouTube on how to disable HTC Sense and use the default stock launcher, however that device was running 2.1 and so it won't work on my device...
I was just wondering is there anyway to disable sense without installing a separate ROM on 2.2, thanks.

I think the only way is with a new rom
You can't turn in off, as you can't install Sense on a non-sense rom.
However, you can install a different launcher, i think the gingerbread stock launher is on the market.
Because HTC Sense is built onto the Android interface, shouldn't closing HTC Sense enable the stock launcher? All HTC did was take the 2.1 nexus Rom and write Sense into it, they never removed a thing so surely there is a way?

Ahh thanks, they should give people a choice between Sense and the Stock Launcher. Fair do's people should just get the Nexus if that's what they are looking for, but the Nexus in the UK was only available on one network, and I for one completely prefer the standard Launcher, HTC Sense 1.0 (Desire Version) is very buggy and laggy.
It surprise me that you know how HTC made Sense and at the same time you don't even know what it is.
Like mentioned by Surfy89, Sense is way more then the htc launcer (rosie). If you want to get rid of Sense you need to flash a alternative rom (AOSP).
If you are talking about using a different launcher then the sense launcher (rosie), you can just install a alternative launcher from the market. So you do have the choice to use whatever launcher you want. Al tough the sense widgets won't work with a alternative launcher.

This is the video I saw: YouTube
I got the wrong info, sorry for wasting time
Even the comments under the video are saying it's an old feature.
Either install different launcher from the market (Launcher Pro, Zeam, Go Launcher ... plenty of them) or root and flash a custom AOSP rom. That's the way to go.

Hi,
I was getting a little tired of Sense and have seen other "launchers". I understand the principle behind this but I'm unsure of the finer details!
Does running another launcher completely disable Sense? (Stock, not rooted)
Does Sense + Launcher take up RAM or just the current launcher?
Any disadvantages you can think of (trying Nova)?
Thanks

If you're completely stock then while the main Sense interface won't be running alongside the new launcher (Apex/Nova) however much of the Sense framwork will be and it will still be ram intensive.
The best option to running an alternative launcher alongside sense would be to root and use something like ROM cleaner to remove as much of Sense as you can or suits you best and to then select the option within the launcher to have it kept in memory to stop crashes or restarts of the launcher itself.
So just kinda wanted to see what the general consensus here is. I personally love sense and would hate to run aosp on my HTC, but I'm seeing a lot of stock android love more and more it seems.

AOSP ROM all the way for me. Its all personal preference really. I got the one for its HW specs not SW. Sense isn't purr enough for me yet its still come a long way.

I like sense 5 but I am over it. I much prefer the aosp look and how much I can customize it. I will flashing pac or carbon if it is ported to our phone.
Once I have s-off... Bye bye sense!
Sent from my HTC One.
I'll be going Sense-less as soon as possible. This is mainly because all of the ROMs I'm interested in and have used on other phones lack sense and are mostly ASOP, not because I dislike Sense. Sense isn't terrible in and of itself, the stock Sense ROM just doesn't offer enough features to make it worth-while.
AOSP / Sense-less GPE
I love the stock google lockscreen, but I hate how now that I did the 'hack' for getting rid of sense lockscreen without root, I cant see who's calling until I unlock the phone...
Apparently I'm among the minority so far. I prefer Sense, but modified along the lines of TeamVenom's Viper ROM. So many tweaks and adjustments. It's clearly still Sense, but definitely changed.
I'm with you on Sense icedragon, I ran aosp for a long time on the tbolt and loved it but im really liking Sense 5. So I'll probably be keeping sense especially if Santod or Virus make a sense rom
Edit: or newt, I can't believe I almost forgot about him. The sense 4 port he did for the tbolt was really good

I actually like sense but I would Prefer the AOSP lock screen. But being new to android I don't really know what kind of roms are out there.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Definitely leaning toward AOSP since I've used stock android phones (gnex, and before that -- droid 1). Sense I like using Zoe, blinkfeed, and am curious to see what customized sense roms have to offer
I ran AOSP/CM on my GS3 for a few months, but have liked Sense quite a bit so far. Just a few features I miss, namely the ability to switch between notifications and quick settings by swiping the bottom bar (where VZW is listed). Saved a fair amount of time, oddly enough.
I've tried both and keep coming back to Sense for Zoe, the stock Sense gallery (looks more beautiful and alive to me) and Blinkfeed. If they could be incorporated into Beanstalk or maybe PAC man, that might draw me away.

Sense 5 is the first time ever that I actually LIKE Sense.
I love CyanogenMod but can't stand the crappy radios as of now.
I like sense five, but I liked it more with the original pull down lockscreen I had on my evo honestly. Never a huge fan of the aosp lockscreen. Especially before ics

Or you can two finger swipe from the top to get straight to the quick settings.
Personally will be sticking with sense roms. Every aosp rom I've used, something was either broken or wonky because they had to hack it to get it to work at all. And I'm digging zoe.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 4
I have used AOSP for the last couple years. It is nice to have a rom with zero bugs and still runs fast and has good features. I will probably stick with sense roms for stability unless I see some really cool things come out for AOSP.
Sent from my phone using an app
I am already running a custom launcher and Widget Locker for the lock screen so I will probably jump from a Sense rom as soon as it is possible, or at the very least freeze a bunch of the apps that I am not using.
The Camera and Gallery are the only couple I may keep in the long run. Blinkfeed is nice but I cannot add it to a different launcher so it is a bit useless to me at the moment.
What's wrong with the radios on AOSP? I too will be deciding between Sense and AOSP.
I love HTC devices for the reliable signal reception. I don't want to sacrifice that.

Zoe and the HTC gallery won't work on non-Sense based roms (including 4.3 GPE roms). You can still use custom launchers with Blinkfeed in one of two ways. If the launcher allows you to set up shortcuts on your home screen (Nova I think allows this but others do as well), you can set up a shortcut to the Sense launcher and just delete the other pages, leaving just Blinkfeed. Also if you are rooted, you can download the MoDaCo Toolbox and in there it will allow you to create a Blinkfeed "app" that takes you to your Blinkfeed.
Have your cake and eat it too.
