So just kinda wanted to see what the general consensus here is. I personally love sense and would hate to run aosp on my HTC, but I'm seeing a lot of stock android love more and more it seems.

AOSP ROM all the way for me. Its all personal preference really. I got the one for its HW specs not SW. Sense isn't purr enough for me yet its still come a long way.

I like sense 5 but I am over it. I much prefer the aosp look and how much I can customize it. I will flashing pac or carbon if it is ported to our phone.
Once I have s-off... Bye bye sense!
Sent from my HTC One.
I'll be going Sense-less as soon as possible. This is mainly because all of the ROMs I'm interested in and have used on other phones lack sense and are mostly ASOP, not because I dislike Sense. Sense isn't terrible in and of itself, the stock Sense ROM just doesn't offer enough features to make it worth-while.
AOSP / Sense-less GPE
I love the stock google lockscreen, but I hate how now that I did the 'hack' for getting rid of sense lockscreen without root, I cant see who's calling until I unlock the phone...
Apparently I'm among the minority so far. I prefer Sense, but modified along the lines of TeamVenom's Viper ROM. So many tweaks and adjustments. It's clearly still Sense, but definitely changed.
I'm with you on Sense icedragon, I ran aosp for a long time on the tbolt and loved it but im really liking Sense 5. So I'll probably be keeping sense especially if Santod or Virus make a sense rom
Edit: or newt, I can't believe I almost forgot about him. The sense 4 port he did for the tbolt was really good

I actually like sense but I would Prefer the AOSP lock screen. But being new to android I don't really know what kind of roms are out there.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Definitely leaning toward AOSP since I've used stock android phones (gnex, and before that -- droid 1). Sense I like using Zoe, blinkfeed, and am curious to see what customized sense roms have to offer
I ran AOSP/CM on my GS3 for a few months, but have liked Sense quite a bit so far. Just a few features I miss, namely the ability to switch between notifications and quick settings by swiping the bottom bar (where VZW is listed). Saved a fair amount of time, oddly enough.
I've tried both and keep coming back to Sense for Zoe, the stock Sense gallery (looks more beautiful and alive to me) and Blinkfeed. If they could be incorporated into Beanstalk or maybe PAC man, that might draw me away.

Sense 5 is the first time ever that I actually LIKE Sense.
I love CyanogenMod but can't stand the crappy radios as of now.
I like sense five, but I liked it more with the original pull down lockscreen I had on my evo honestly. Never a huge fan of the aosp lockscreen. Especially before ics

Or you can two finger swipe from the top to get straight to the quick settings.
Personally will be sticking with sense roms. Every aosp rom I've used, something was either broken or wonky because they had to hack it to get it to work at all. And I'm digging zoe.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 4
I have used AOSP for the last couple years. It is nice to have a rom with zero bugs and still runs fast and has good features. I will probably stick with sense roms for stability unless I see some really cool things come out for AOSP.
Sent from my phone using an app
I am already running a custom launcher and Widget Locker for the lock screen so I will probably jump from a Sense rom as soon as it is possible, or at the very least freeze a bunch of the apps that I am not using.
The Camera and Gallery are the only couple I may keep in the long run. Blinkfeed is nice but I cannot add it to a different launcher so it is a bit useless to me at the moment.
What's wrong with the radios on AOSP? I too will be deciding between Sense and AOSP.
I love HTC devices for the reliable signal reception. I don't want to sacrifice that.

Zoe and the HTC gallery won't work on non-Sense based roms (including 4.3 GPE roms). You can still use custom launchers with Blinkfeed in one of two ways. If the launcher allows you to set up shortcuts on your home screen (Nova I think allows this but others do as well), you can set up a shortcut to the Sense launcher and just delete the other pages, leaving just Blinkfeed. Also if you are rooted, you can download the MoDaCo Toolbox and in there it will allow you to create a Blinkfeed "app" that takes you to your Blinkfeed.
Have your cake and eat it too.

Sense widgets aren't as fast, but I do love the Sense clock app, the Sense clock widget, contacts widget and photo gallery widget.
the calendar widget is very laggy compared to Launcher Pro, and the actual dock/launcher bar at the bottom is a very wasteful way to use precious screen real estate. I mean - who really needs such a large button for the phone?
Launcher Pro/ADW Ex and other launchers make it really easy to save screen space by having scrollable launcher/docks...but with Sense it just wastes space.
I am using a GingerVillain ROM with ADW Ex and it works pretty well. But I am missing some of those Sense apps/widgets!
cyanogenmod is faster ,has better battery life, its more up to date and is more customizable.
sense/virtouos has much better apps and widgets such as camera,contacts,keyboard,phone,etc...
it really comes down to personal preferences.
I personally have set them both exactly the way i like and installed all the
apps that i need on them and made a back up so i regulary change between
them whenever i feel like it.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I like Sense better now than Vanilla. I have been using the vanilla for a long time now and then tried switching to sense a week ago and I love it.
I'm not a fan of the sense homescreen though but I love the camera app, phone app, gallery, and the minor quirks you get with it.
The only downside though is that IMO it drains twice as fast as stock.

Sense, no question. The superior camera, music, and contacts apps are a no-brainer, IMO. I don't use the Sense launcher, though - LauncherPro for me. I tried Cm7 and honestly didn't see that big of a difference. I get 12-15hours of moderate use with Virtuous v1.0, which is the best Sense ROM out there.

What do u think about the speed on virtuous vs cyonagen
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
CM is definitely faster, mainly because its built for that, specifically. Sense is built to give a better user experience. Apples and Oranges. With the stock Virtuous kernel, I don't notice a significant speed difference vs CM.

Without sense. No question.
From my permarooted overclocked HTC G2 with cyanogen 7 nightly via XDA app
Is there any way to get the alarm clock to put a notification in the notification bar on the Sense UI like it does in the Vanilla ROMs? Everytime I hit snooze I wonder if I hit the right button. I'm currently using Virtuous v1.0.0 for the G2/DZ.
I like the sense over the "vanilla" the G2 came with. I've been using virtuous since the day it came out and have loved it. I haven't used CM but I' am comfortable with sense
i currently use MIUI but i loved sense when i used it the only thing i didint like was that you couldnt get it to not autocap , i know it sounds stupid but its really one of my pet pev's , i switch back and forth from now & again but does anyone know how to make it so it doesent autocap on sense virtu rom ?

different strokes for different folks.
It gives more of a stock feeling than ADW. And the trashcan is on the bottom dock, the only reasons I used it, then I moved to ADW for honeybread
Sent from my HTC Vision
I actually think it looks a bit better than adw. It gives more of a clean look.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Because the app drawer is the best app drawer of all of them! Especially with a phone with good graphics!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Isn't the same effect app drawer available on adw and lppro?
Sent from prison
Well gb launcher2 is just so much smoother then adw or lp. Home screen scrolling is buttery smooth, and the transition for opening the app drawer is much nicer then the other two. The app drawer cube effect shows 5 rows in the fold compared to the others. Now that I can use themes in CM7 without adw, I use it.
And in the stock launcher the apps in the drawer "bounce" much smoother than LP, not as laggy
I believe i read somewhere on here that the stock launcher is hardware accelerated. That is why is runs faster and smoother.
I personally prefer anything stock. Stock apps seem, to me at least, to be smaller and faster. Try to keep the fluff to a minimum.
I love stock anything! My Nexus One made me love the 3D app drawer, and on my G2, its only smoother! I can't wait to see how smooth a stock dual core Android 2.4 phone from Google is gonna be! The G2x is a good example, however it will be froyo, meaning not fully dual core compatible like 2.4 will be! My guess....Nexus X by Motorola! I can wish, can't I??

Hey,
I really didn't have to do anything but flash it. I flashed this over the ILWT cm7 rom and it just worked right out of the box (on 187b as well as 204).
I wouldn't know how to improve the performance of the launcher, except for common guesses such as reflashing/wiping and such.
Maybe it's just a different understanding of what "working really well" means. I never did get it to work perfectly buttery smooth, a very tiny lag always remained (even though it was running a lot better than adw).
I see that the darkside rom has the option for both touch and touchless. I was curious if it made a difference other than personal taste, or if one runs better than another.
Yes much slower.

I don't think so, stock rom for this phone is actually pretty snappy.
So I don't think it matters that much which one you go with.
I prefer TW myself.
Powered by the SGSII....
Honestly the only thing I noticed was it freed up a lil ram but I could tell a difference in feel. I like TW it looks nice with the 5 icon dock.
I think its more about software optimization & hardware, most high end phones shouldn't struggle at all jumping from apps to menus etc.
Touchwiz is actually a really light overlay. Compared to htc's sense it runs quite fast

+ 1 for TouchWiz. I meen you bought a Samsung GS2 = TouchWiz. I have a Sensation with Sense 3.5 and it's Nice, but my GS2 will Smoke it Hands down.
I can say that I didn't care for touchwiz myself...I'm just spoiled using Nexus phones before this with CM7 & CM9 I've got ADW with CM7 on mine. Simple as you can get right there...though trebuchet on CM9 is worlds ahead of ADW...
i dont know exactly what the Touchless version does, but you can just install a third party launcher (i use go launcher ex) and freeze or uninstall Touchwiz launcher in system/app
Touchwiz is AOT more than just the launcher.. its the dialer, contacts, messaging, the status bar, the list keeps going..
A "touchless" rom i would expect to have non of these enhanced apks.
I personally do not think the twiz slows the phone down. if anything it gives it a better apeal to the eye without bogging performance.
So to answer the question.. No it does not slow anything down.
The touchless darkside uses zeam launcher which actually reminds me of tw. Try it out see if you like it... If not go back to tw

i wanted to like zeam... but touchwiz was more responsive. so +1 on touchwiz.

But All the features in the framework are amazing. The phone book is great. The media players to me work the best of all the company specific, and unlike most framework it allows file sharing without 3rd party apps. Like if I want to send my friend a song.
I think Sense is too heavy, Blur doesn't really add anything but an ugly color scheme (but decent widgets), LG devices actually has a nice framework. But I prefer TW.

I was going to say the exact same thing. The UX launcher from the S3 handles folders a lot better. I actually found myself with way more folders than normal because they worked so much better.

i dont mind the look of touchwiz on the s3. it looks smooth and fast, and im so glad that they finally let you customize the dock. but the only thing that really bothers me is ridiculously ugly folders. forces me to have to download apex or go laucher themes. on apex i can put two apps in a folder and it looks so simple and nice. in touchwiz it makes it look like a folder on your windows laptop and doesn't adjust the icons to how many apps are in the folder.
I just started using Apex and am adjusting from GoLauncher EX. That was adjusted from TouchWhiz. Each to their own when it comes to preference. There are some nice features I like about all of them... but so far, GoLauncher appears to be the most versatile when it comes to a customized a launcher as a whole.
My two cents.
I'm on the boarder now on buying a blue HTC one phone, but the best thing I can remember about the HTC phones (when I had a thunderbolt 4g) was the UI. I liked it way better than any other android flavor but now that HTC has changed it, it seems too boring and professional for me. Even the plain android homepage seems more exciting than it. So I was wondering if there is anyway that I can revert it back to the old homepage. Thanks!
I do not believe so, someone jump in here to correct me. There are many home launcher in the play store (or here on xda) replacements that can be made to look like the older sense versions (Nova/Apex etc). However the launchers will be lacking the sense widgets but again there are so many options for widget replacements im sure you could find something comparable to older versions of htc sense. This handset is a beast ^_^
