[Q] Loosing internet mobile data connection while screen is OFF

Hello guys, I'm going nuts here, because i don't see an option or anything that explains this,neither anyone complaining with the same issue.
Here's the deal, I enable mobile 3g connection but after a while and after the screen going off(in standby), the connection also goes off.
I know this because when I turn the screen back on, I see the 3g connection symbol appearing near the cell signal bars, and that means it was off.
does this happen to anyone else? is it a known issue?

It works here... do you have JuiceDefender or something else that saves battery or controls connections installed? It might kill your connection to save battery.

no mate, nothing at all, neither have I installed it...installed the rom already and it keeps happening randomly...

hmm... this is just a try...
the same thing happens to me with my wifi connection - but i wan't it to do that... if i go Settings --> Wireless Networks --> Wifi Settings then press the "menu" button i get Advanced Settings in with the first option is "Wifi-Sleep Policy" in wich i told my Desire to do that.
see if your rom has a APN Sleep Policy.

Roaming noise

Guys,
Since tmpbile and orange merged, I automatically roam between them.
Each time the phone switches, it plays the notification sound, even when ringer is off - its driving me nuts.
Appears to be no way to turn off in software either.
Anyone any ideas?

Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Data roaming sound
I don't know how you could miss it though, you'd have been there to check the option directly above it to enable Data roaming!

[Q] 3G network shut down

sometime I use desire z, it doesn't get the 3G network.
In preference, disable "mobile data" and enable, the net work start to work again.
do you have any idea?

Could be that you're slightly out of range for 3G coverage? Do check with your mobile operator.
If they say its your phone, then you could always root it and install a new radio, which *might/might not* improve signal.
Also have you tried using 3G in other areas?

Try enabling always on mobile data connection that should sort it out

Thats how you get it to keep your data network on, wasnt that the idea of the post?
Anyway you could download an app called extended controls which once set up allows you to enable and disable it with a click of a button

Changing to WiFi only Data?

When I installed my ROM, and on first boot I was given an option for when to use data.
Wifi only, or WiFi and Mobile Networks.
Now, I am going on holiday in a week and wanted to switch it to WiFi only to avoid data roaming charges.
Can anyone help, I cannot find it in the settings.

Obviously I looked there first. There doesn't seem to be a "WiFi Only" option.
If I just deselect Data Roaming, will that essentially do what I want?

Yes, just turn off mobile network and turn on WiFi.

In the widgets > settings widgets you can choose mobile network and wifi network (as well as gps and bluetooth) screen widgets so you can toggle them on and off.... when not wanting to use mobile data, its good to have those widgets on one of your screens (as the dashboard widgets are usually missing one or another of those 4 essentials)
saves time from going into the settings repeatedly just to turn something on or off.

It is stated in the setting that it enable/disable data packet usage over mobile network. It has absolutely nothing to do with your phone call whatsoever. What makes you think that way?
Just kidding. In extreme cases, to prevent data on moblie network, one uses firewall to block access to any applications that try to access it.

All you need to do is deselect Mobile Network. Even the description says its used to connect to the internet.

Hello there, I have a CDMA Desire which I have flashed to Page Plus a while ago, everything is working on it, including data. But, I seem to only get a 1x connection instead of 3G. I know this may seem like a stupid and noobish question, but I would just like to know if there is any way to switch it to 3G? And what would I need to do? I appreciate any help in advance.

usually you don't have to switch anything on for 3g. if i remember correctly there isn't an option to switch between 2g and 3g on the original htc-sense rom anyway, you only can switch off mobile data completely. so if you have switched on mobile data you should be on full 3g-speed. according to my experience this does not necessarily mean you have a fast internet connection, though.

usually the device is configured to use 3G (if available) by default, you can check the setting anyway, just to be on the safe side, Settings->Wireless & networks->Mobile networks->Network mode and choose the double option (on my device it is GSM/WCDMA auto but in the US I guess it will be slightly different).

I'm still confused. When I go to mobile networks on the settings, there is no option to change the network settings, only for the system select and such. If it helps a bit more, I'm currently on the MIUI rom. What would I need to do to get 3G working? Sorry if I'm still sounding like a total noob, it just seems weird that I would only get 1x instead of 3G.

I cannot post a screenshot right now, but basically, when I press Mobile Network settings, I get 4 options. Data enabled, always recieve MMS, data roaming, and system select. When I press system select, the only two options are automatic and home only.

Mmm I don't know what to say, I checked also on my secondary phone (Huawei, standard stock android) and I have the same configuration items plus 1, "use only 2g networks", I don't know why you don't have it

I googled a little bit and I found out that some people are experiencing the same problem with miui, they can't get 3g working and can't find the conf item in mobile networks settings. Why don't you try a different ROM? Just to check whether it is a miui problem

I'm still not having much luck. Do you guys think it could be related to the PRL? Or should I keep trying to find more ROMs to flash?
