This is my first android phone & loving it, pissing on the iphone OS. So glad i got rid of my iphone 3gs the call quality was awful as well as the locked down OS.
So for the nitty gritty part...
How can I Gen' a Goldcard for the HTC Desire.
Has the Desire been rooted, do i need it rooted to backup carrier (t-mobile) rom?
I am wanting to backup the carrier rom and replace with generic htc rom any help advice?
Thanks guys...
step by step help would be great.
Rodz
Its also my 1st android device and ive read how to make a gold card but so far I cant get myself to try to do it.
Installing generic software doesnt require the desire to be rooted, though it be good if you have an original t-mobile rom just in case you have to send back your phone.
It's pretty easy to made a goldcard. You'll find all the information you need in this forum.
The only problem is that it is not currently possible to revert to the T-mobile version.
I am in the POOH!
I took the 2.2 update OTA on my T-Mobile HTC Desire and now it continually reboots after a while but will not connect to the mobile network and WiFi justs shows error and will not even turn on!
Anybody got the gold card fix working with T-Mobile?
Cheers
Dave
Hi folks,
I thought I'll post my story with the update for my desire, since I had some difficulties and it might help some others to read how I solved it.
My device:
I bought my Desire from T-Mobile in germany without a contract, but that unfortunately still meant that it was a branded device. So I debranded it with a standard goldcard and the generic WWE RUU version 1.21.something. I then removed my goldcard and used the phone with a new SD card.
The first update attempt to Froyo:
As soon as the update yesterday was released, I triggered the OTA update. It all went smoothly until it was done with flashing and restarted. It somehow hanged itself afterwards and at some point I just restarted. After that, I always got the message "The 'system' process is not responding. Force close or wait?" (loosely translated from the german message and yes, it said 'system' process, not some "real" process string) Regardless of what I did, I couldn't use GSM, Wifi or access the SD card. This meant that I also couldn't backup any of my data! It still reacted to the USB, but I couldn't access anything really... I tried a few things, like resetting to factory settings, rebooting, even removing the battery for some time.
Getting my phone back into working condition:
I tried to create a new goldcard from the old data that I still had, but unfortunately this didn't work. I am very sure that I used the same goldcard.img like when I first debranded my phone, but it didn't recognize that SD card as a goldcard when trying to flash the generic RUU again. So I first flashed the T-Mobile RUU again, which brought my phone back into working condition. This meant that I was able to get the information for a new goldcard from the phone, which made it possible to create a working goldcard. I logged into Android Market for this to download Astro filemanager. I didn't install all applications that I had previously installed, which was going to be an issue later on.
Debranding my phone and getting the OTA to Froyo:
Now that I had my working goldcard, I was able to flash the phone with the generic WWE RUU again and after rebooting, I was able to do the OTA like everyone else. This time it went all smoothly and after rebooting a few times I also got a percent counter to 100% that I didn't have before. All done, I tried to reinstall my apps, but unfortunately the market showed only a few of those that I had earlier. All my free apps were gone and also a few of my paid ones. It seems as if the missing paid apps were not marked as Froyo-ready. The free ones seem to have been lost after just installing Astro and not all the other stuff, too.
So, now I have my HTC Desire with a T-Mobile brand debranded and updated to Android 2.2 Froyo.
I hope this helps a few people with problems.
how to you install generic WWE RUU version 1.21....
can you link me the ruu and the method do use you?
System Update on a Contract Vodafone HTC Desire (unbranded and unlocked) has just presented me with a System Upgrade 1.24.161.3 (19.31MB).
For anyone considering this - this is NOT Froyo. It is an update that WILL BRAND your phone with a Vodafone startup screen, various Vodafone apps, etc.
I think, I'll be going to flash to stock ROM route now.
Can anyone confirm if this does anything silly like simlocks the phone also. I know the Vodafone UK phones were unlocked but had a vodafone branded rom.
i really wish i knew this afew hours ago! got all excited about an OTA update and didn't bother reading what it said!
Now ive got a beautiful Desire with Vodafone Bloatware!
I think ill be going towards the debranding route! make my life easier!

ok can anyone point me in the direction of a guide that works for my phone then which is as stated above, now on the latest vodaphone update.
i can confirm that it doesnt lock your phone, as mine is on three.co.uk.
cheers
That sucks... I dislike network rubbish.
I saw the update on my branded vodafone and installed it.
then saw the red crap on the phone.
then i want to debrand the phone.
but now one problem i have version 1.24.161.3 installed and when i want to install
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed with gold card inserted i get cannot install older.
any solution ?
I have just been hit with this Vodafone crap as well.
How can I go back a ROM? Aghhhhhhhhhh
This is bullsh*t!, i just wasted 10mb of data downloading this thinking i was finally getting froyo only to now have vodafone cr*p plastered all over my phone.
So thats why we havent got froyo yet... your too busy making updates that advertise for you & plaster your logos all over our phones than actually giving us a propper manufactuers update that was released by htc!

I am currently reading how to use the unrevoked3 software to dump all this new Vodafone crap - any issues with using this with 0.80 loader and 1.24.161.3?
Someone should complain directly to Vodafone, As they including their eforum staff have pushed the Desire as a "Unbranded" handset!!! there must be something trading standards can do?
so whats the benefit if any?

I agree it's not right, but I'm fairly sure there is a line in e contract that allows it, on the plus side it is probably something the had to release to confirm it works on froyo, fingers crossed froyo with a week, and I may debrand if it doesn't arrive or the new icons annoy me too much
LOL is their a BIG Vodafone splash screen on start up with this "update"? As far as i'm aware Vodafone did push the phone as "unbranded" it went something like this.
Week one of the desire's release:"The HTC desire is completely unbranded as are many of our handsets now, As we feel this is what our customers want".
Couple of weeks later:
Concerned customer: "Hang on, whats this vodafone scene?"
Eforum staff: I'll look into it!
Forum member: "Yeah the software versions differant as well"
Concerned customer: "Well thats odd, i was told by vodafone and numerous sites/forums the vodafone desire was completely unbranded, thats why i went with vodafone!"
Eforum staff:Well errrmmm well arr errmmm, as far as i know it is!!!"
Not my story just how i see it!!

I did the exact same thing with the same stock ROM above and have the same version above. Took me 2 hours to get to the final stage (as I am new to this) and then it failed. I have read elsewhere that Vodafone have done something to it so you can't debrand it.
Hi all! New here but will no doubt be around more.

Which HBOOT version is the new update? try rooting it with Unrevoked then flash any old 2.1 rooted rom, then make goldcard and flash HTC RUU!
Ok all. I installed the crap Vodafone update today and have since rooted and installed a new custom rom as I am not having Vodafone crippling MY Desire when they feel like it so this is how I did it:
Download Unrevoked 3 here: http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Follow these instrcutions to use it: http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire/
Choose which new ROM you want - I have gone for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732246
Follow instructions on how to load a custom ROM here: http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire/ and in the ROM authors thread
Pat yourself on the back when you have finally got back to a nice, unbastardised ROM AND you are on the Vodafone network.
my phone came from carphone warehouse k and is on a vodafone contract/sim
i got the update on sunday morning it was 90mb and no vodafone stuff was involved in the install
AndyChecker - thanks for that. I am going to go through that method now. Have you since got FroYo?
Yeah mate am on Froyo now. All seems good so far.
Pain in the arse having to set things up again but good thing is if you use all the Google services they all get pulled down when you fiirst sync anyways. Have lsot 4 hours of my life tonight due to fecking Vodafone but on a positive note I am back on XDA posting which is something I haven't done for a while due to the stock Desire Rom being sooo much better than the old Win Mo ROMS.
So far this junk has spamed my phone with...
a massive voda logo at boot up (which has removed htcs own "quietly brilliant" boot screen)
changed my default web homepage to vodas 360 page
Flooded my bookmarks with junk i didnt have bookmarked before
installed multiple apps like voda web browser, voda music store, voda app/game store & 360 updates app! None of which am i able to uninstall!
Updated my sms app so it displays the number of messages next to the message header
Changed "people" to htc people
Reactivated sync on stocks even though it was dasabled before.
Placed a click link to the voda music store in the stock mp3 player
Taken up over 10mb of internal memory!
Damn you vodafone!

Recently upgraded my contract with Orange and picked the HTC Desire previously having Hero and enjoyed it.
Having previously owned the Hero i had some knowledge on the Android system, so began to root, flash custom recovery and rom.
After rooting using unrevoked and flashing amon ra recovery.
I selected Cyanogen 6.0 desire rom, all flashed well, also flashed the latest radio which is where i think the probelm persists.
After reading that flashing the latest radio onto branded orange desire locks the sim, i purchased an unlock code htccode.com to see if that solved my problem, didn't help one bit, i don't even think the code will work unless im running the stock orange rom, but tried anyway with tmobile sim card, network unlock successful but phone says emergency calls only, so obviously didnt!
Can anyone help me get my htc desire back to orange stock rom? so i can then unlock the phone properly and flash a generic rom.
Hope all that make sense.
Andy.
Hi everyone
I have a HTC desire froyo Version 2.2 and I did the upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.3 and after updating the network it works fine and after 3 or 4 minutes the network disappears and a cross on the network only and the following message "emergency only".
I have made a root and downgrade to froyo 2.2 and the same problem.
Please help me find the solution.
Thank you all.

Hi, I am not an expert either but is your SIM Card ok?
Try latest Radio or maybe other Roms with different Kernels.
Maybe your SIM is not accessed as it should be.
That should keep you busy until somebody with a little more clue will react on the question
