restoring app backup after rom upgrade - Desire General

Hello.
i have a custom rom and i have to upgrade it with wiping.
and i have a question.
1 - i tried to save my apps with appmonster (i thing it is the same issue with titanium). But when i restore the app on the phone on the new rom, i can not see it in the download tab of the android market.
Will the app be updated even if i can not see in the downloaded list on the app market ???
2 - Do you know what file i have to backup for the called (and received) numbers list and the setting of the mobile ???
3 - also, is there a file that tell to my new rom what widgets icones i have put on my htc sense front pages ?
Thank you

Newbie Help

Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie to smart phones. I succcessful managed to create a goldcard and root my Desire to the generic HTC room using the 1 step r6 guide at modaco forums. I have managed to re-install my apps.
I'm just wondering whether it is possible to create a backup image so that if I was to go to a different rom which I didn't like I could restore the image to go back to the generic rom but with all my apps installed. Is a custom rom with all my apps on there the same as an image???
I read some stuff about nandroid here but it seems confusing and says that you need to create seperate backup for app settings.
sorry not sure if what I am saying is making sense.
Thanks for any help
I did a bit more reading and I guess it's not possible to backup an image and restore like you can with a hdd. So I can only restore to the provider or stock Roms, I would have to backup my settings and apps using an app like titanium but it won't allow me to update these apps unless I use the paid version?

Yes there is. User ROM Manager. I'm using it to switch back between Froyo and 2.1 Sense. Just create a backup before you flash ROM #2, then backup ROM #2 after configuring it. Then just restore from one of the two backups. Easy as pie!

Yes, use either ROM Manager or a recovery to make a nandroid backup. It will backup everything on your phone (apps, settings, etc - not the SD card though of course). The nandroid backup created (which you can also copy to your Computer, to be on the safe side) will be a 'snapshot' of your phone.

Titanium Backup

Hi guys,
I have a few questions about titanium backup which I've also seen asked but not answered in a few rom threads.
1: If we do a backup user and system apps, what happens when we restore to a new or different rom. For example if the keyboard or another systemapp has been updated in the rom
2: How is titanium backup at handling internal/external programs? If I install a new rom which has google maps for example, whereas I had it installed externally before, what happens?
Thanks guys

From what I understand, /system/app is not writable on Desire - so you can't restore any system apps, you can however restore all apps in /data/app
you can restore them....data wise at least!!! my settings and data were restored when i flashed the MCR3.1 but if you flash a completely new rom i advise not to restore the system apps

Restoring Contacts from stock rom?

Hi everyone, here's my question:
I backup'd the stock rom before installing a new one and now I lost my contacts saved on phone (lol.)
I want to install another rom, after I install it, can I just copy files from the old stock backup to CM9? Where are they and it will work?
Thanks, Thegatorade

hi
you made backup with CWM recovery, aren't you?
Titanium backup can extract everything from CWM recoveries, but be careful with restoring and first of all read the whole topic in dev section (if you want to transfer smth to CM9), there's a lot of useful info there

U can try to use AppExtractor, it enables u to restore contacts/sms/bluetooh/wifi from CWM backups.
DON'T restore system apps from GB ROM to CM9. They are not fully compatible.
LOST. tessmou
You can use export to sdcard option from the contacts app. You restore your contacts list by import from sdcard.
i have the same issue here. it flashed a new rom on my sgy. yet i cant restore the backup i made using cwm. i tried to restore it via cwm>advance restore, and it resulted to boot loop. the i tried titanium backup pro extract from nandroid but it gave me "sorry feature only works on donate version blah blah.. any idea?
Simple
Just restore your original Stock ROM back and connect your Gmail account (Settings > Accounts & Syns > Add Account for gmail) and Sync everything such as Contacts, Browser history, Calender etc... and for your confirmation open Gmail from PC Browser and your contact will be there... then Flash your Custom or any other Rom and same step repeat.. Your all contacts will come back in original format..
I Hope this simple method will be better for you because i am using this method, its automatically add/remove contacts whenever you add/remove from Contacts.
Press THANKS if you done this method

[Q] [ISSUE]#SUG# dont work anymore with custom ROM

Hello,
I was using #SUG# variable on my xperia SP with stock ROM.
I put this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452833 and #SUG# don't work anymore (give "-2" as result)
Gmail was removed from this ROM, and I used play store to install. I tried to convert to system app with titanium but no change.
Is there anything I can do to make it work again ?

Clear the data for zooper and reload all your widgets templates. This has worked for me every time.
I always noticed it when I restore zooper from a titanium back-up after flashing a rom.
I just reflashed my ROM and restored a backup from titanium and it did indeed give me negative numbers.
clear data AND uninstall zooper then reinstall
that fixed the issue

Backup problem

i have switched from romaur v3 to amami, done a backup with "backup and restore" app in romaur v3,and now i cant find that app working for amami (kitkat 4.4.4),and dont know how to restore that backup >.<
any help please?
When you say "amami" does this mean you flashed a CyanogenMod nightly to your phone? CyanogenMod is AOSP: all stock Google / open-source software (no proprietary software is ever included). The Backup & Restore app belongs to Sony, I believe.
I wonder if you could try to open a ROM (that is based on 4.4.4, and has this backup & restore app included), take the APK file (and ODEX file if applicable) from /system/app, and copy it over into the rom that you currently have (and dont forget to set the correct permissions on the file(s) once they're copied).
I am currently running 4.4.4 RU stock rom, rooted. I can see the the files for Backup & Restore are /system/app/Backup-wizard.apk and /system/app/Backup-wizard.odex
I hope this helps you.
Yea this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...opment/jul-01-aosb-project-run-limit-t2801711
The only way is to format this phone and reinstall another version, then reinstall this. Any way you can share your files?
P.s. i have already tryed slot of backup wizard apk, bit everyone crashed or didnt installed at all

Can you clarify what you are saying above? slot? And are you sure the app was from 4.4.4? (I'm only assuming at this point that the app from a 4.4.4 system is the best option). There is also the possibility that the Backup & Restore app depends on other system items or modules in order to operate properly. (Sorry, I wish I had more expertise.)
If you want a copy of my Backup & Restore (apk and odex) from my 4.4.4 system, I will send. Just PM me your email address and I'll send a Dropbox link.
