of course, if you can find the original firmware, and flash it back

Yet another wasteful thread.
Please search next time.

what if i dont know my original firmware

If you don't remember the original firmware I think the chances are very slim that anybody else will

Does the Rom backup from RomManager backs up firmware too?

How to wipe clean Galaxy s3 to sell?

OK, so for some personal reasons, I'm forced to sell my Galaxy S3...
I have CWM on it, and its rooted (obviously) running stock touchwiz rom...
Thing is, I cannot just hit the factory reset in settings because it's missing some apps like Samsung services, s-voice, etc.. stuffs that I deleted...
So my question is, How can I 100% Wipe the 16GB memory free of my personal data and perform a clean install of STOCK Telus SGS3 rom on it?
THanks!!!

1) Flash the original unrooted stock ROM from your carrier in Odin
2) Settings > back up and reset > Factory reset. reboot.
3) Turn debug on, and adb shell back in just to double-check that your nukular launch codes aren't there anymore.
And make sure your binary/custom flash counter is at 0.

DO NOT flash the AT&T firmware. Here is the proper firmware for your device http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162304546/3421015/I747MVLALE8_I747MOYBALE8_TLS.zip.html
Once you have downloaded it, unzip it and let me know what files are in there. It should be a .tar file.

It will remove everything and restore your phone back to when you first bought it. Yes you flash it with odin, it will not trip your counter since it's an official package.

One last thing I would do is browse your SD card to see that there's nothing there. I have not tried a factory reset on the SIII, but on the Captivate and probably other phones, factory reset didn't wipe every directory.
See this for the very few directories it did wipe:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152181&highlight=does+factory+reset+wipe+sd+card
I did a few factory resets (but not recently) and only once do I recall having to copy things back onto my internal sd card from the copy on my computer. Every time I did one, I'd backup my internal sd just in case, do the factory reset and finish whatever else I was doing like a new rom, and then see what had to be put back on. But other than that one time, my Titanium backups, pictures, whatever have still been there. I tried out a lot of different roms on the Captivate and even the "full wipe" versions left the internal sd data there.
That one time I did need to copy it back was I think when I tried out the secret code to do a real wipe. Although I can't recall which it was.
Hope I did the right thing,
I flashed STOCK .tar with ODIN, rebooted phone onto stock, mounted to my computer, formatted memory (the 11GB or so), went on phone, did Factory Reset..
Hope its 100% CLEAN Wipped !

Q: When to Root?

I just bought my SGS3 yesterday and still going under battery calibration, first cycle. Question is should I wait to complete the battery calibration before rooting or go ahead and root?
I'm coming from a Vibrant, so I know about rooting, just don't know if its a better idea to get the calibration done right first before rooting.
I would just go ahead and root it. I rooted mine on like the 2nd or 3rd day

I just rooted my phone anyways! Ah, I guess I have been misinformed and been trapped in my old ways, Vibrant ways. lol. Had another question, will removing any of the T-Mobile crapware mess with the full functionality of the stock rom? I remember for the vibrant, removing certain apps caused the phone to force close repeatedly and crashed the phone.

Like, I set up the phone, go for a week, then decide I want root.

You don't need to wipe anything before rooting. You just need to make sure you back up your stuff in case the worst of the worst happens.

How to undo a firmware update?

Hello,
6 days ago I got a software update (about 12MB). After that my internet (3G) has been horrible. I checked with another note2 owner on my same network and he also has the same problem. Was that update a radio update? If so how do I undo it. I'm not rooted (and would really like to stay that way).
My current versions are:
Android: 4.1.2
Baseband: N7100XXDLK7
Kernel:3.031-679347
Any help would be highly appreciated.
I would highly recommend you to not downgrade because there is a high vulnerability of sds in that case.

The SDS upgrade was the big one (Over 120MB) also updated to the new OS. This 13MB update I'm talking about I got only last week. Its a small update, I don't know what it was supposed to update, but it totally fAcked my radio I think.
Then you'll need to flash an older firmware.
Flash any firmware for your country but make sure it is dll7 or later.

Download the update you want to go back to and flash it with Odin. You won't lose data.
The update you got was DMA6. If you want to go back to DLL7 just flash it.

I think Titanium is your best bet... After I flash a rom I restore apps and data (not system apps) before I even sign into my Google accounts, it's never failed, I've have backups that I've used since Titanium came out, it's never failed me and I've never had any issues with it...

Trust me ANY other custom ROM is usually ALOT better than pure stock, she will appreciate it mor as an update!
Any custom rom will have advantages over plain stock.
I also have a similar question. Is there any way to stay on stock unrooted 4.1.1 and get the 4.2 lock screen?

flash ofw with odin then flash cwm and restore backup. it worked for me
People are saying you can't flash back to 4.3 from 4.4.2, which is partially true.
Even when you flash the 4.3 firmware, you will still have 4.4.2 bootloader.
However, if you are not really fussed about the mini details, just flash it like you would normally with Odin,
then when there are problems with wifi, use custom kernels to fix it.
Otherwise, flash 4.3 then use a nand backup to restore (if you have it).
