Constantly Boots Into Recovery - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My daughter is using a MyTouch Slide which I rooted and put Slidemeroot5 on. She's been using it for a few months now with no issues. Just a bit ago I noticed the CM6 was available and went to grab her phone. The screen wasn't responding so I pulled the battery and restarted. It booted into the standard recovery mode and after that none of the buttons respond. Only option is to pull the battery but then it still boots into recovery.
I placed ESPRIMG.zip on the sdcard and recovery could not find the file. Is this phone bricked? I can't even think of what might have happened for it to do this.

I'd try wiping from HBOOT screen first.

It doesn't give me the opportunity to. Buttons are completely unresponsive. Ended up doing a warranty replacement with T-Mobile.

[Q] screen dead - help

Rooted my Dinc. Installed CM7. All was well for 3 weeks. Used it one day until the battery went dead. Charged and tried to boot. It appears that it goes through the boot sequence (it vibrates) but nothing comes up on the screen. Nada, black.
Any ideas?
Screen might have went bad. You should just try your best to unroot it before you send it in

Have you tried pulling the battery?
Sometimes the phone can get stuck in a state where trying to turn it on results in a series of vibrations but nothing else happening. Pulling the battery resolves this.
Unless flashing a radio, when in doubt pull the battery.
Pulled the battery and re-booted. Nada.
Returned to the Verizon store. Their tech had no luck and ordered a replacement. Verizon ordered a replacement and left me with the phone. They said that when the replacement comes in they will switch it out. I'm hoping that means I've dodged the warranty issue.

That's odd. I had this problem when I went to unroot my phone, being that I had an SLCD and it did not like the 2.1 stock ROM. The screen was blank but it would vibrate and continue to boot.
If this is the case, you could always try to unroot it and see...Here are some instructions on how to do this (its what I had to do)
I went to unroot and flashed a stock 2.1 ROM. Although this sounds correct, there is a problem. The stock 2.1 ROM was made for the release DInc's, and those, my friend, come AMOLED. So by flashing that stock 2.1 ROM, it does not contain the correct hardware drivers to support the display on the newer batch of DInc, the SLCD.
What I did was:
Download the correct ROM that supports the SLCD from here (which can be found on http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108 )
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip and place that file in the root of your sdcard.
Now since your phone's display doesnt work, like you said it vibrates once, like normal, your phone still functions properly.
Boot your phone into HBOOT and allow it a few minutes (2 minutes to be safe), like normal to find this PB31IMG.zip file. It then will prompt you to press UP to confirm the update or press DOWN to not update. (you will not see this, but if you have flashed a radio then you know this process)
when you press up, it will then start updating to the stock ROM. however, you wont see any of this. just a black screen.
allow that to run, usually for 10 minutes. to be safe wait 15-18 minutes and then press UP. When the update is complete you are asked to reboot. UP for yes DOWN for no. again you will not see this. Then when it reboots....you will be happy and see the HTC Incredible white screen
You can give this a try and see if it works. I know you did not mention unrooting your phone, but if you have nothing on your screen, you can try this

Please help me help him... Thx ____

I sold my old incredible to a kid. It sat for about 7months due to me upgrading to new phone. It had CM7 on it running fine when sold it. When he went to activate it, problems problems problems. I took it back him and told him I would fix it before paying me. I'm having troubles.
- No working recovery. can't get it to boot properly. I had the "5 vibrates of death" couple times.
- I'm trying a couple ruu's but when finished it will get to the lock screen, look normal, then reboot to lock screen then after a couple times will 5 vibrates then black screen.
1. I've tried [HOW-TO] Fix 5 vibrate and black screen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110865) I can seem to do the sdcard fix but not sure how to complete the usb fix or if that will even help me along. I can't "run terminal in anroid" because I can't get the Rom to boot up. All I can do is fastboot.... Compouter recognizes device.
2. I've tried multiple RUU's including PvilleComp's at http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22
3. I'm using hboot .92 and radio is 2.15.10.07.07 s-off
I realize problems like these have been asked before, I've looked through them, uesd the search button, etc.... But I'm still really stuck and would like to fix this before reimbursing kid money.
Thanks

Have you tried reflashing cwm recovery thru hboot? Then wipe everything and flash a rom.
Yes I did try this. Got CMW re-installed, and when I tried to select any option in recovery just goes to picture of hat and hangs there. I press power button and goes back to CMW main menu.
I also tried a fix from your post:

Not sure where you got those instructions or files from, but there not for the incredible.
Heres what you do.
Download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip, and put it on the root of your sdcard in no folders.
Pull the battery, reinsert, and press vol down +power for 5 secs then wait for 5 mins not touching anything.
Press vol up and then wait for 20 minutes touching nothing. The phone will reboot once during the process, this is normal just let it be.
Press vol up, the phone should reboot and come up being able to see things and boot to the os normally.

This is where I've gotten the furthest. Got thru HTC quietly brilliant. Droid animation (red computerized looking stuff), "Droid" sound, then got to lock screen. Sit there for 5sec or so then would reboot, do the same thing over again and get to lock screen. Reboot again, then usually "5 vibes of death"
The kid does not have a phone other than this one I'm trying to fix, and they would really like it fixed and in their hands by Friday.
I just tried re-installing CMW again, and just hangs on white HTC screen, doesn't even make it to CMW menu. This is kicking my butt.
Fruitcake? Back to stock? That worked on my phone once..not sure if it was sim or not

What button are you using to select things in recovery? Pressinh power on the main menu brings up the orange hat, press the trackball to select items power to go back.
I have to admit I was using the power button (used to my Rezound) but now I cannot even get CMW to work. Flashed it with the .zip in hboot/bootloader. Tried both restart and not restart after running recovery update. Both ways, phone will just hang at white HTC screen and not enter CMW anymore. Sometimes screen goes black then back to white screen or just stays on white screen indefinitely.
Could a bad battery be causing this? I'm trying 2 different ones. I'm not sure if either are bad, just trying to troubleshoot. Is there a way to check battery health on a non-bootable phone?
Any other suggestions to try? Thanks everyone for your help. I'm giving this phone just a few more hours of me fussing with before it gets retired.
UPDATE:
after battery sitting on charger all day while at work (10hrs or so), tried to boot up phone. went well. got to OS right away. I let it sit for 1/2hr to see if it would reboot or not. it stayed alive. i tested making a phone call: OK. I browsed the the XDA website for less than 1 minute, it then rebooted on me. white HTC screen then black. white HTC. then black. white HTC then rebooted fine. couple seconds later shuts off again. this time the same white HTC then black 3 times same as before. then instead of rebooting, got the 5 vibes of death.
the phone while working also asked me to update to lastest android 4.08.605.2
i'm not sure which RUU i ran to get this far, but must have been an earlier.
so i guess now i will attempt the 5 vibes fix, that's if i can get the phone booted for long enough to install terminal emulator from market and follow the steps.
any ideas guys? thanks in advance.
i did the sd card fix and attempted 5 vibes fix: http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=33
pulled the battery. put it back in. powered on the phone. once the first white "HTC Droid Incredible" screen came up, I plugged phone into PC. instead of one audible ding from computer saying device connected, i recieved 3 very quick dings from PC and phone shuts off. no charging light indicator. if i single press power button, unresponsive still.
now i unplug device from PC, remove battery, put battery back in, hoping for it to reboot normally. instead i get white HTC then black. white HTC then black screen with no boot up.
I believe so far I've tried the GB RUU from PvilleComp and the RUU provided by cmlusco in my post #3.
I guess now I'll try the Froyo RUU from PvilleComp's site: http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22
It could be your battery, but usually the phone will just turn off not reboot. 4.08.605.2 does not have a PB31IMG.zip so you have to use an ruu exe, but that requires you to be able to boot. You could try the froyo PB31IMG and hope it works. My only other sugestion would be to try and upgrade your hboot to the new 1.02, and then use the htcdev site to unlock it. Then fastboot flash cwm recovery and hope you can access it.
i upgraded the hboot. unlocked via htc site. reinstalled CMW and was working fine. flashed ota stock GB. same problems still. i left him long enough without a phone, so the fixer project is ended.
thank you all for your help, greatly appreciated

[Q] accidentaly bricked my phone? plz help!

So here's the deal..
So I'm no newb when it comes to flashing roms. my Dinc is my 3rd phone with a custo.m ROM. Well what happened is. I flashed to cm9 kangs from cm7 v13. Well after about a week I was sick of the instability and having to install apps twice just got annoying.. soo... I decided to go back to cm7 but I didn't have it on my sd anymore so I pulled it from my comp and flashed through ROMmanager. Well upon booting it got stuck in a bootloop (which is the first time I've encountered this.) So I took out the battery, and I held down both volume and the power button and the phone vibrated 5 times and the LED went from flashing red to green and the screen stayed black. Now I can't boot into recovery.. nothing. Almost thinking its bricked... is there any way to save this phone?
Thanks for any help u can gived.

If you can access hboot its not bricked. You need to do the five vibes fix herehttp://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=33, if you can get to hboot to use fastboot. If you cant access hboot you are out of luck.
well an update. what i did was pulled the battery and held down the power button for 10 seconds, then put in the battery and plugged the charger in. and it forced it back into the bootloop. i was then able to access hboot and try and reinstall. well both cm7 and cm9 both started the bootloop. so i went through and factory reset the phone and formatted the sd. and also wiped the dalvik and cache. also formatted system/data/cache, and reinstalled cm7 and it started force closing EVERYTHING. so i completely wiped the phone and reinstalled cm9 and everythijg worked fine, so i went back to cm7 and now everything is working as before. didnt have to enter code in the terminal emulator blahblah.. just an easy fix for me dont think itll work for most but did here so its worth a try i guess.

NEED SERIOUS HELP! QHSUSB_DLOAD Brick

I was messing around with my phone and entered recovery mode (PhilZ Touch) and I kept tapping the empty part of the screen. Then the screen turned off, but on again after a few seconds. Then the phone wouldn't boot past recovery mode. I was stuck!
I researched the problem online and found another forum that posted a flashable "fix". So, I flashed it and then to my horror, realized that the zip was meant for a completely different phone!
Now my phone won't display anything on the screen, won't enter into Bootloader/Download Mode nor Recovery. I can't even do a Cold Reboot!
When I plug the phone into my computer though, Windows makes the USB connected dinging sound and attempts to install drivers but fails. In Device Manager, there is now a QHSUSB_DLOAD entry that appears and disappears depending on whether my phone is plugged in or not.
Does anyone know how to fix this and get the phone up and running again?
Preferably ASAP!? I literally have no phone... not even a landline!
Bro am in tha same boat...am about to send mines off to mobiletechvideos and they'll fix it for 50$ thats the only option ppl been saying...i tried the other way but its a headace and it dosent work for me ...
I ended up solving my problem, but not in the way I wanted. Since my phone was 100% dead, I went back to ATT since it was still under warranty. I told them a story about how the phone had been malfunctioning lately and then just completely died. They replaced the phone under warranty, so now I have a brand new one.
There definitely doesn't seem to be any easy way out of this problem once it strikes. I still don't know what happened to make the phone unable to boot out of recovery, even after wiping stuff, factory reseting, and reflashing roms. All I do know is that I have never had a problem with PhilZ until I started to rapidly tap the blank part of the screen (I like how it vibrates... I'm weird like that). This caused the recovery to never want to exit. Every time I reboot the phone, it automatically went to recovery, even after a full power off or battery pull.
Nevertheless, I am still going to root and mod my phone... just carefully.
You have a hard brick, which is nearly impossible to fix.

VM Soft-Bricked...I know...

Well, guys was doing pretty well there for a second, I had just installed CarbonROM, was tweaking to my heart's content. Flashed a bad file in an attempt to improve speaker clairity, and boom stuck on the HTC boot logo.
Popped open the back, unplugged the battery, rebooted into HBOOT, rebooted into recovery and attempted to restore one of my backups I took right before flashing the bad zip. Failed. Can't load the data partition.
Ok, got the RUU file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/general/ruu-htc-desire-816-a5chl-ruu-file-t2920254
Downloaded, put on root of SD card, renamed, rebooted to HBOOT, it picked it up, seemed to flash it, but it also seemed to go faster than it should. I'm suspecting it failed as well.
So now I've just got my phone sitting in recovery. Unable to mount the data partition.
Any clue on what I can do now? Hoping I haven't bricked this sucker...
Ok, my persistence paid off....Mods feel free to close this thread, I came up with a fix.
For anyone else in the same rut, this is how I fixed it...
Downloaded stock recovery from this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NAwrQOaS7QVkxFYnhFZmhjOGc/view
Flashed stock recovery from Fastboot.
Loaded into stock recovery, key combo'd Volume UP + Power, got to the menu. Did a factory reset. Guess it reset partition mount points or something.
Rebooted to Fastboot, flashed TWRP, rebooted to recovery, restored a backup, and bam I'm back!

Yeah, note to self, never get a phone without a removable battery. The sticky pads under the back cover while I was popping it off were annoying. Thankfully my phone was only down for a few hours.

This phone has a non-removable battery. You don't need to take out anything, all you do is hold volume up + the power button for 10 seconds or more. It will ALWAYS hard power off no matter what state the phone is in.
Also, what file did you flash over to improve the speaker clarity which broke your phone? I spoke to you about this earlier in my CarbonROM thread. I actually was able to fix the boomsound issue and there is no more crackling in my speakers. I'm going to post how to do it when I get home.
Edit: SORRY! Volume UP, not DOWN. Got mixed up

I tried Vol Up/Down + Power for at least 30 seconds, was just stuck at HTC logo screen and I could feel the phone getting hotter so instead of having it run down the battery I decided to pop off the top. The back is meant to be non-removable but starting at the SD/SIM slot...slot, a guitar pick works great to undo the clips. Used a credit card to separate the sticky pads from the back. Pulled out the battery cable from the mainboard and reseated it, started it back up in HBOOT.
I flashed some sorta ZIP that's used with the HTC One M8 phones, figured if they have BoomSound it'd help too but noooope, haha. Can't remember what it was called. Did a lot of searching, tried Viper4Android, that sucked, tried tweaking the DSP, nothing came close to the original.
Sharing my own bricking experience
I'm a newbie, but I wanted to share my own experience from a few days ago. I bricked my VM/USA 816 when I was restoring a ROM backup of CM12 over a stock ROM. I was stuck on the CM12 blue "alien head" boot screen. I tried to get into the recovery screen by holding down power & volume, but it would only reboot and load CM12 again and not TWRP.
After a couple of hours of trying to get into recovery and deciding not to wait for the battery to drain because I thought the blue CM12 logo might burn into the screen. I decided to try to remove the cover and unplug the battery. I started at the SIM/SD Card slot trying to pop the cover off a little with a small screw driver to get a credit card(CC) between the cover and phone. Once I got it started I moved clockwise(cover side up) around with either a bent CC or a smaller cut up piece of CC to pop the tabs. I wasn't very gentle since I knew I wasn't going to return the phone and I bought the phone from VM with account balance so I didn't feel like I was really going to waste $300. Thank HTC the plastic cover is very forgiving. Once you get past the HTC logo you have to worry about the sticky tape around the bottom half of the phone where the battery is located. The bent CC was the best tool here and as I said earlier I wasn't very gentle while pulling off the cover once the tabs were loose.
Once I had the cover off I didn't know how to unplug the battery connector so I decided to pry the battery out. Once I did that I could see that the connecter pops up. I plugged the battery back in but the phone tried to load CM12 again. I don't remember if I had to press power button to turn on phone or it started when I connected the battery. I got back into the same state as before with a boot loop with no way getting back into recovery. So I unplugged battery again and connected the phone to my PC. I could see the screen the flashing between the charging screen and TWRP, but I couldn't get into recovery with buttons or screen touches. I then went into a command window on my PC to try the adb command. First I did a "adb devices" then I did a "adb reboot recovery" to get into TWRP. Once in TWRP I did an advanced wipe and installed CM12, gapps and supersu again from my ext SD Card. I'm not sure but I may have done a format of the internal storage just to be safe. Once I was up and running again I replaced the cover starting again clockwise from the SIM/SD Card corner and all the way around the phone till you get near the SIM/SD Card slot and have to replace the flap which is held in place by the cover/phone.
I hope this helps anyone who runs into the same problem.

You have to flash and use CWM 6.0.5.1 and wipe the same partitions that were backed up in your STOCK nandroid backup.
Once you do this, reboot to hboot. Enter fastboot. Flash the stock recovery. Wipe the data/cache/dalvik. Reboot and go to hboot again. (Your device won't be able to boot yet.) Enter fastboot again.
Flash CWM (ONLY CWM) and make sure it flashes by flashing it twice back to back without leaving fastboot at any point.
Boot into recovery and once loaded reboot into hboot once more then go once again to fastboot and flash Philz Recovery with the same double flash process.
Now boot into it, mount as a USB and create a clockworkmod/backup folder on the device root directory since Philz Recovery doesn't use the buried part of the system like CWM.
Drag and drop your stock root nandroid backup. Use Philsz recovery to restore it. Boot up and your phone will boot after 3-5 minutes.
Flash back CM11/12 if you'd like.

Hello
Thank you for sharing your solution.
I have a problem which is described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...im-boots-fastboot-t3316255/page3#post65409302.
My questions to you:
1. My bootloader is locked. Is it possible to flash stock recovery on it?
2. I tried to flash official rom but I received the message "Partition update fail!". Can what you did, resolve this problem?
