[Q] Strange behaviour of HTC widgets (stacked on top of each other) - Desire General

Something funny, don't know if anybody has seen this....
On my main screen I have the WiFi & Mobile widgets from HTC.
on the third screen (swipe to the right) i have those widgets in exaactly the same location.
But no wthe funny thing..... I was having trouble with my mobile data connection so i wiped the phone. Then i put the widgest on the same place and everything is working fine. I try to repair my mobile data connection in various ways so plenty of reboots.
Then i decided to see hwat's going on inside and i installed logcat. After doing this, the widgets didn't respond anymore. I could tick them but they would not change. However i could see wifi coming on in the status bar so every thing seemed to work execpt for the widget itself beeing updated.
Getting bored with the widget I decided to remove the widget. But after removal, another one (on the same position) was still visible. I removed that one too. Exactly the ssame happened with mij mobile widgget.
I have seen this "stacking of widgets on top of each other" so far with the contacts widget, agenda widget, wifi widget, and mail widgets......
Has anybody seen this.
So my phone was in working order again couple of reboots later i decided to install bugreport to again see what was going on insid ethe log...
Same behaviour.....
I Deinstalled them and have not seen this behaviour again..... but i wonder what's causing this behaviour

some times when I close services / apps etc.. system ones.. I get wigits on top of each other on one page , I thing scroll to the next page .. lock my phone ,,, and unlock it.. everything is back to normal ...

Can't lock phone / put in standby (solved!)

Hello all,
My phone is not working properly. I've had some bugs most people seem to be having, but now I have something which is quite annoying. I can't find it on these forums or anywhere on the internet.
I have seen a 1 line reference to my problem here:
/showthread.php?t=666332&highlight=standby
Flaws & annoyances with the HTC Desire (with workarounds!) [updated Apr 23, 2010
Hardware defects. Eg. Dust under screen, device not going into standby properly. Most of us don't experience these. Contact your retailer to exchange the unit or HTC to claim warranty.
So, I seem to have this problem. The phone wakes up with whatever button I press, and I don't have to unlock the phone. I have a unlock pattern set. It also doesn't ask me for this.
I couldn't find a proper topic about this problem, but I assume I'm not the only one. Is there a fix, or is it a hardware problem?
It wouldn't make sense to me if it's a hardware problem since the screen does turn off when I press the 'power' button.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bart.
Which Lock?
are you using the built in lock or a third party lock app? I had the same problem when I used LockBot. If it's the standard lock, have you tried Powering the phone off then back on?
I am just using the built in application. I haven't used any other lock app.
I have tried turning the phone off twice, and both times it came back (might have been after charging it, but I don't know at all if that's the reason).
edit: I'm gonna try to recreate the problem with restarting and trying to find out when it stops working properly.
edit2: I restarted now... and it hadn't saved the new background I set... strange... :/
edit3: Ok, it still locks itself... I guess I'll just need to wait and see when it doesn't work anymore... maybe it's just a matter of time for it to stop working...
The problem that you quote in your opening post is probably the problem concerning the Desire (or rather an application running on the Desire) not properly releasing a wake lock which causes severe battery drain, e.g. the calendar app about which another thread exists.
Your problem seems to be quite strange. You do not happen to have an application called 'No lock' installed, right?
No, I don't have 'No lock' installed.
I use 2 calander widgets though... (the little one on my home screen, and an more advanced one on another screen.)
I've got quite some applications installed though... I'll just type them here, maybe someone can see something wrong...

I'll use it tonight again, going to sleep soon... Maybe it'll be broken again tomorow.
Lets hope it wont brake again... but that's probably too optimistic.
First off: sorry for the double post, but I have some new information which will also mean the end of this topic.
This morning it didn't work anymore, and the only application that did it's thing this night was the kaloer clock (night clock).
I looked at the settings, and there are some settings about screen lock.
It's not clear at all, but I changed some settings, and it locks again.
So, I guess it was just me using an app which I didn't fully understand. I'm glad you guys helped me though. And I'm definitely glad that my problem is solved!

Helicopter view problem

I don't know if anybody else is experiencing the same issue but my desire has this problem now and then. Sometimes when i move around htc sense and i will go to the helicopter view I don't see 7 home screens, just first one that is located in the top left hand corner.
When this occurs and will leave helicopter view mode my contacts widget is being funny and I can't select any contacts on it. Just Luke I said it doesn't happen very often, but still it occurs and its very frustrating. Is that ROM problem? After hard reset problem still exists.
After few minutes phone is working fine.

Had that happen once. A reset fixed it and I didn't get it again. I think it may have been one of the widgets I don't use anymore, maybe friend feed?
I've had this a few times. If I just put the phone on stand-by it seems to sort it.
I have a feeling it's the calendar widget that acts a bit funny on mine.
Widgets that I use:
1. Full screen calendar
2. Full screen mail
3. Full screen messages
4. Clock with weather + one line calendar widget + some program icons
5. Full screen contacts
6. 2 lines music player + one line power management + few programs
7. Full screen news

it is the calendar, there is somewhere another post here ...
just kill it with a taskmanager and it should work again.
btw: because the calendar is so sucky, i use now "Calendar Pad" ... actually i dropped all HTC widgets
I had this exact same problem, but did not know how to describe it.
When it happened, sometime, going into "all programs" it seems the phone tried to be in landscape mode.
I tried disabling some widget. After disabling the HTC Contact Widget, the problem never occured again.
Sometimes I get it. I just press standby then again and it fixes it.
I used to have this problem often but i havent seen it for a while now so i had forgotten about it. It may be the calendar widget like someone said, and come think of it, i havent had the problem since i moved my calendar widget to the homescreen on the far left. (used to have it just to the right of the main)

GPS stays ON after Root

Hello All,
Just got my Incredible Rooted after some initial troubles. I removed CityID, Footprints, and Peep during the adb shell.
Now my GPS is constantly on when the phone is on. The Icon is always there in the notification bar.
Anybody have any idea why this is? or how to stop it? Its killin my battery. THANKS!
Got it!
Beautiful Widgets was causing the GPS usage. Went away the second I uninstalled it. I am reinstalling now and I doubt it will come back.
Sorry for wasting a thread. Hope this helps any other users.
Mine was doing that too. I dropped the Beautiful Live Wallpaper I was using and rebooted the phone, then the GPS stopped coming on and it seems to be fine now. I still have Beautiful Widgets installed, and never uninstalled it either.
mine seems to stay on. no widgets or anything.

Tell me if you still have the Google navigation icon.
I don't know if this would work, since I still have not rooted myself (just got back from LA and am setting up a proper dev environment for some real programming first... hopefully =p). But there are several widgets (one in sense, one in base Android I believe) that allow you to switch GPS/wifi/3G data/etc with a click of a button. The android-base widget is called "Power Control" and the HTC buttons can be selected by going to Widgets => Settings, then dragging and dropping which ones you want to use.
I hope the solution can be this easy (although it seems to rarely be, heh).

Synergy ROM issues - com.htc.launcher and + button

It won't let me post to the Synergy thread so I am starting this one. I have searched for the answer in that thread but couldn't find it.
First one is when I press and hold an icon to move it or delete it I get the following message:
The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Also when I click on the + button to add icons/widgets it launches google search.
Phone is an Evo 4G. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Seeing the same thing with RLS1 (no godmode). Cleared cache/davlik multiple times and also tried reflashing the ROM.
Also seems that one of the home panels is broken -has the radio tuner and half of a couple other widgets to the right - one may be Friendstream. Trying to drag these to remove also FC Sense. Also while I did have the tuner widget on that panel before flashing, none of the others were there, so it looks like something add by this ROM as opposed to an old widget.
Seems after re-flashing, the phantom cutoff apps on the tuner panel have now changed to load a couple random twitter messages - not anything current either. That would make me think some data is corrupted - been trying to avoid wiping data and doing setup yet again, but may have to bite the bullet.
Tried something new today. Went into Titanium and wiped data for a few of the HTC sense related apps. Then magically, my home screen panels changed back to pre-Synergy. This includes the calendar widget, and my bookmarks widget. FriendStream now appeared on a new panel, but I'm now able to drag and remove it.
Also, lost the new Synergy message panel where all the text convos are are flippable cards. We'll see what happens with these the next time I reboot.
Just noticed that voice search doesn't hear any speech when bluetooth is enabled. As soon as bluetooth is disabled, it works perfectly.
Also seems that 4G is always stuck in 'turning on' mode, but never actually turns on. I am in an area with 4G, so I know it should find 4G at least some of the time.
shameless bump to get to the magic 10 posts limit so this can actually be posted in a thread where the Synergy folds might at actually read it.

Lag/crashing/Sense Home not working

Hello there,
I am posting this thread with a problem. Roughly a year ago I purchased the HTC M9 (after 2 very satisfied years using the M7). Up untill about a week ago everything was working fine for me, the only small issue I've had so far is the lack of memory space. Although this issue was easily solved by simply upgrading my device using a Sandisk SD card.
However, since a couple of days my device started overheating very quickly and lagging. Again, I tried to fix this by rebooting the phone and using CCleaner to clean up some of the junk on the device. Now here comes the actual problem: this morning I was simply using the Youtube app to watch a video when my device suddenly crashed (with 50% battery life). I plugged my phone into a charger and booted up the device again but I get a an error report saying "Sense Home stopped working", which means I'm currently unable to use my device. For some reason the HTC report function is bugged aswell, as I cannot seem to send an error report to HTC.
Can anybody tell me what is going on here and how I could solve this problem? I'm very dependent on my phone because of university and work and would like to fix this as soon as possible and preferably not with a hard reset.
Thanks in advance.
Okay I went ahead and tried out something myself based on the following on a thread on androidcentral com titled ""Unfortunately, HTC Sense has stopped" loop" (I'm not allowed to post links yet)
So I went to Apps and cleared the cache of the Sense Home app (without being in safe mode). My phone started working again, but I lost alot of information as apps like Whatsapp and Google Chrome are completely reset and I lost my contacts. Is there any way I can fix this process?
I cleared my cache but my device is still keeping me in that damned Loop. I don't want to lose my pictures or videos. What else can I do? I have an HTC One M9.

"Boot the phone as per normal, ignore the "Sense Home has stopped" message for now.
Pull down the notification drawer,
Tap on the cog to get into settings (once in settings clicking ok on the "Sense home has stopped" message should make it dissapear so you can see what you are doing),
Go into Apps,
Go into Sense Home,
Tap on storage,
Tap on "Clear Data".
This will delete all the data stored with the Sense Home app, not your photos or messages of contacts or anything like that.
You will have to re-configure your home screen(s) though :-/
Once you've done that you should be good to go.....You may need to reboot."
I have the same problem which started at the same time.
Tried everything, clearing Sense cache, system cache from recovery, installed custom recovery and Revolution HD rom its all the same... Everytime after few minutes or hours same problem occurs! Loop Sense crashing, rebooting, wifi turning on and off by itself...
Please someone help
Hi guys, I had the same problem just two weeks ago. Tried cache clearing, factory reset, yada yada yada. Despite all the error report pop ups I managed to use Google app to get to play store, and updated sense home from there. That did the trick. I lost all my contacts and apps but still the phone works again.

Thanks, great solution, apps and everything still there - I was so worried. For me this problem was a show stopper, do I even consider getting another HTC phone?? Why can't HTC modify Home Sense to disable the alert, once initiated, when the battery is fully charged, then this very annoying, irritating and phone disabling problem would just go away?
