Current SGS e-mail app doesn't have feature to set up peak and off-peak settings (for example, push during peak, manual in off-peak). I know that app on Desire has those settings. Can you recommend some app that has that feature and supports multiple Exchange accounts?
I'm pretty sure Touchdown can do this, I tried it for a couple of days but went back to the default email client. Touchdown also support the syncing of ToDo lists with exchange.
In the end I used Tasker to switch off my autosync during the night, but I justified the purchased of Tasker because I also use it for controlling volume, etc like a profile management tool.

Hi,
I want to check my e-mail using my M2000, but I want to use the minimum bandwidth possible (mainly use GPRS).
I have "Only download headers" set and I usually tick the SSL connection.
I have tried both POP3 and IMAP and both seem to burn a few hundred KB of data just bringing a few headers over. Also, with IMAP it sits for ages downloading the folder list every time - even though I only want to sync the Inbox.
Anyone have any tips?
Which should be more bandwidth efficient - POP3 or IMAP? (and does SSL add any noticable bandwidth overhead?)
Does everyone tend to use the built in messaging client for email or install a 3rd party app?
Thanks!

hi,
i'm using default email client with pop3 + i have enabled compression in GPRS advanced settings.
i've got lots of problems with imap, mainly the same, what you described and also was not able to delete messages.
buzz
give a try webis mail
its fully configurable
Thanks guys - i'll check that out.
Buzz - did you find the compression made a big difference? - was it software compresion or ip header compression? (or both). And did you do it on both Wap and Internet profiles?
Thanks

Hi Ian
just as a matter of interest, are you monitoring the usage using something like SPB GPRS Monitor?? if so, under options, change the rounding option down to zero..........default is 100kb and it falsifies the actual data being used......... there is of course an amount of data usage simply to check for new email, but when i changed that setting to zero for rounding, i noticed the gprs usage was far more accurate (especially when the bill arrives !)
just a thought !

Window Mobile 6 - Smartphone (POP3 vs. IMAP)
I've been running up huge data bills and I'm trying to determine if it's my email configuration.
I'm running a Tmobile Dash using WM6 and using the built-in Outlook as my email client. I've been told by my provider POP3 is less efficient especially when I don't clean up my mailbox. So even if I select "download last 3 days" in POP3 header for ALL messages in my mailbox is downloaded to my Dash. This is supposedly not the case with IMAP. However I've read other postings here and elsewhere that state IMAP is less bandwidth efficient. FYI, I run a seperate mailbox for my Dash and indeed if I don't use a desktop client to download and purge messages my mailbox does continue to grow in size.
Can someone provide some pointers on how I can best reduce my data usage when using the built-in Outlook?
Doug
Is there a way to have advanced options for configuring your send/recieve schedule for imap email? When I use actiesync (and hotmail btw) I can configure it so that it only retrieves mail during the day and not at night, for example. Since I have 4 mailaccounts, I need to use imap.
I cannot change this in the settings, is there a way to do this through a plugin or app?
Anyone? There must be more people that would like functionality like this I'd guess!

Maybe this is what you're searching for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438970
Thanks, thats exactly what I needed!
I use it and it works fine on X1
It seems that the HTC mail app now supports peak and off-peak times with seperate schedules. I also had it set for "as items arrive" for peak with exchange and regular gmail setups and saw no sync icon going off at all unless I did a manual sync from within the app.
Does any know if the app on EVO now supports true push?

OK, so I know that the stock Android and HTC mail apps both support IMAP (in a limited fashion), but they (and every other third-party client I've tried to use) lack ALL of the features below that are commonplace on a "full" desktop client that IMO is essential to use e-mail effectively:
K-9 is the only one that has most of the features outlined below so I am using it for the time being, but it lacks an online search facility which is a must for me to find old messages whilst I have a connection.
True offline support (read, search and reply to "already-synchronised" mail offline - draft facility to save for sending later)
Copy sent items to an IMAP folder automatically - important so that all sent messages appear in the same IMAP folder no matter if they've been sent from the desktop or phone.
Multiple selectable IMAP folder polling (I may have server-side rules that deliver mail to other folders apart from the root inbox)
...and most importantly:
Online server-side search (similar to the GMail app) - it's no good being able to simply search synched mail - I only sync the last 25 messages in each folder to keep polling times low
Is there any client that satisfies all of the above?
The GMail app is the only one I think that does all of these (albeit that it's not IMAP), but I have a work IMAP account that I want to interact with directly without forwarding etc. to another GMail account etc.
If there isn't one out now I doubt you'll find one
Hi all,
I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the default Email client.
I have various email accounts, but want to set the syncing options (times, peak, off-peak) separately, but I seem to be unable to do this. The only one which is giving me options to set the syncing is the Hotmail one, which allows me to set separate peak and off-peak syncing, the rest only allow me to set syncing intervals.
My issue is that I have some accounts for which I need emails to come through 24 hours a day, and others that I only want during normal office hours, but (apart from the Hotmail account) I cannot set this up individually.
On my previous HTC I was able to set this up separately for each account, I assumed it was a standard Android Email app, but I guess I must have been wrong!
My question is, have I missed something in the settings?
If it's not possible, is there an email app that I can download that will allow individual sync settings per account?
Thanks in advance!
