Is there a way to have advanced options for configuring your send/recieve schedule for imap email? When I use actiesync (and hotmail btw) I can configure it so that it only retrieves mail during the day and not at night, for example. Since I have 4 mailaccounts, I need to use imap.
I cannot change this in the settings, is there a way to do this through a plugin or app?
Anyone? There must be more people that would like functionality like this I'd guess!

Hi,
Just installed custel's pro cingular wm6. Curiosity about this auto send receive.
I would like the 1x a day setting in Outlook, for my IMAP account. What I'd like to know is what TIME it does this, and how if any way can i control it?
I am hoping to accomplish this w.o. using a scheduler app.
Hi Everyone,
There has been a lot of discussion about the best way to use email on a smartphone like the Tytn. Does everyone use the IMAP protocal for best results?
Personally, I get A LOT of mail for work and I would love to find a way to get the mail I want but not have to deal with junk mail and other emails that are automated on our side workwise.
Any suggestions?

Hey walshieau, Thanks for getting back to me. My email is a simple pop3 account.

if the email server supports IMAP then use it....
Or to get full functionality, rent an exchange server mailbox from someone like 4smartphone (for about US$50 per annum) and get push email etc.
IMAP generates a lot more traffic than POP3. Just fetching a single
mailheader (send/receive when there is 1 new mail) yields over 10 kB more
traffic in IMAP. As my one subscription is limited to 10 MB/month, thus
using POP3 makes much more sense (speed could also be an argument,
altought even in GPRS it doesn't differ that much). Conseqently, I have
different entries for the same mailbox (currently: 3 IMAP, 1 POP3).... but
this also has to do with my question:
How do you guys work with different outgoing mailservers?
I have duplicated my mail account 4 times: once for each outgoing
mailserver I want to use. I then just make sure I have selected the
correct mailbox prior to starting a new message. But this hardly is an
elegant solution (I have to fetch mails for all of the accounts to keep
them up to date). As the different mailservers have no log in, I cannot
use them when not accessing via that particular provider. I have been
looking at some mechanism to hack the hosts file, but the tool
"pockethosts" isn't very well suited for this purpose (and haven't found
anything else).

Hi, I'm currently using 3 email addresses on my phone plus the sync with my pc.(and home pc)
All I've come up with so far is to set all email pop/imap to only download headers, (and 2 of them only set for the last 3 days only),then I need to "select" manually what email I want to read and download them, the rest I leave for outlook to look after on my PC.
At the end of the day I finish up with a lot of "unread" emails on my phone, BUT once sync'd with pc they are all copied across anyway, just in my "outlook" folders, not my phone email accounts, if all that makes sense.
Any replies of forwards on my phone from any email includes my signature "email" that I prefer to use.
ie seperate work, personal etc
cheers

Server side filtering may be the answer for you.

gmail
I went to Gmail. Now it front-ends 4 different POP3 accounts, and with the spam protection it has it saves me from deleting a lot of crap. Only downside is that although I can read all my email on my Hermes, I can't really manage my Gmail account the way I want from the native mail client on the Hermes. No worries, I can always use the Mobile Gmail java app or go through IE to the mobile Gmail website. It's working for me...ymmv.
Hi guys,
i just found out, my email provider wants me to pay for imap services, so i wanted to switch it to POP3 on my TP2, but there isnt any option to do so...
Does anyone know how to change from imap to pop???
You can't switch from imap to pop3. You'll have to remove your imap account from your Messaging app. Then add your pop3 account. Don't use the HTC Email Setup app. Do it manually in the Messaging app. Also remember to uncheck the box during setup that helps you to retrieve account settings automatically.
Finally found it
Had to use a different email and then rename it to web.de, cause my tp2 saved the web.de settings and used them again and again
Thanks alot

Just follow the 'Tools>NewAccount...>menu to get to the wizard, you'll then get an option to set up the account and on about screen 3 of this you will be asked if you want IMAP4 or POP3. I found it easier to disable the auto settings and go manual.
Current SGS e-mail app doesn't have feature to set up peak and off-peak settings (for example, push during peak, manual in off-peak). I know that app on Desire has those settings. Can you recommend some app that has that feature and supports multiple Exchange accounts?
I'm pretty sure Touchdown can do this, I tried it for a couple of days but went back to the default email client. Touchdown also support the syncing of ToDo lists with exchange.
In the end I used Tasker to switch off my autosync during the night, but I justified the purchased of Tasker because I also use it for controlling volume, etc like a profile management tool.
What is everybody else out there using for there Virgin/Ntlworld emails?
I was using the Gmail app and set my online Gmail account to fetch my mail from Virgin but then decided to try the native mail app on my One X which was easy to set up and worked fine. However, after a few days it always deletes the mail in your inbox with no option i could find to save or keep certain emails. This annoyed me so i went on the hunt for an alternative and found K9-mail which was getting good reviews so i installed that. After setting up my mail account and testing i found that although it was very customisable and looked good, the emails deleted even quicker from my inbox and again no way of keeping them. I've since tried Email Exchange which again looked ok and was easy to setup but it has the same problem. Is there any email client out there that works with Virgin/Ntlworld and doesn't keep deleting your mail without any option to save?
Set it up as IMAP not POP3. Usually with POP3 there is an option to leave a copy of emails on the server, but IMAP is better for that type of usage.
It is leaving a copy of the mail on the server, it's just not staying in my inbox on my phone.
Oh! Last time I set up an email account, the option to retrieve all emails, or last 3 days was in there. It's not easy to find, there used to be different settings screens. Just keep trying, I think you can get to settings from the page with all accounts as well as individual accounts.

Thanks Ben, i'm now back with the stock htc mail client and have found the option you described and set it to 7 days.
Fingers crossed. :fingers-crossed:
