[Q] Android system Recovery - need Windows-recovery.bat - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had 2.1 and root / super root and now I have 2.2 and root. I am using Steal's Deodexed Stock Rom. All is good except when I reboot into HBOOT I get 0.79 which doesn't really let me do anything with options except Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, Simlock and HBOOT USB. I go into Recovery.
I get the Red Triangle with a ! in it.
I hold down the vol up and power and I get the Android system recovery and down at the bottom it says E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
The usual options with Android System Recovery such as reboot, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe and wipe cache partition.
From here I can execute the windows-recovery.bat from a XP P.C. and get the menu that again says Android System Recovery only now I can usb toggle, Backup/Restore, Flash a zip, wipe, partition, other and power off.
It seems like I was able to get this latter menu before without the PC and windows-recovery.bat but now I can't.
Is this the way it works or am I missing something?
I have searched the forums several times and haven't really seen what might answer my question.
I do use Rom Manager (which I know doesn't work well for some people) and Titanium Backup.
Thanks

also when going into nandroid to restore it says
"sd-ext.img not found skipping restore of /sd-ext."
I had a similar issue when I first flashed a ROM. What version of what recovery are you using? Is it clockworkmod or RA? You will probably need to flash a new PC36IMG.zip file to get it back up and running. I used the unrooted version found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
Then I re-rooted with unrevoked, and proceeded to reflash the ROM. If you are using clockworkmod, you need to change to RA, and if you are using an older version of RA you need to update. Let me know what you're using, and I'll try to help.

yes im using clockworkmod and how can i sync my phone with my comp to flash the pc36img.zip .?
You'll have to do it while in recovery. Pull the battery on the phone, and put it back in. Hold donw the volume down button on the side while you hold down the power button. This will boot the phone into the bootloader. After a few seconds it will scan for some files, just ignore that. Once it scans, you can move your sleection by using the volume down button. Move your selection to recovery, and push the power button to select it. Then you'll see the recovery screen come up. In one of the menus there is a selection for mass storage, or something like that. When you toggle that on, you can use your phone like a disk drive, and just drop the PC36IMG.zip file in the folder.
ok fter i do that what should i do
again thank you so much for your help
in clockwork recovery you will have
-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/ factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard
-nandroid
-partition menu
- advanced
**You want to select partition menu**
Partition menu gives you thes options:
mount/data
unmount/ cache
mount/ sdcard
format system'format data
format cache
format boot
mount USB storage
**Now plug your phone into your computer and select mount USB Storage**
ok so in the exact order after i put the file on my sd card
In order to install the update, follow the steps below. This will erase everything you had stored in your phone, and set it back to how it was when you got it from the factory. Once you drop the new PC36IMG.zip file onto the phone, shut the phone off. If there's no menu option, then pull the battery. Then power the phone into bootloader again. It should scan for the same files, and this time find the one you put in there. When this happens a blue bar will show up on the right side. When the bar finishes, it will ask if you want to update with the new file. Say yes, and let it finish. It will probably restart once during the update, so don't freak. When it's all done it will ask if you want to reboot. Say yes. Now it will be back to stock. If you want to try to flash again, re-root using enrevoked. When that's done, isntall ROM Manager from the market. When that's installed, open it. At the bottom of the screen should be a selection for flash an alternate recovery (Amon RA), if it's higher than version 1.8, then install it and you're good to go. Clockworkmod has a lot of issues.
Did it work out for you?
yes thank you so much I got my phone up and running

[Q] Recovery not working, can't install ROM [Solved]

Hey all, I was trying to switch from G2 HBOOT to the Desire Z HBOOT. I was following the guide and it seemed to work ok. I am not a complete noob when it comes to flashing ROM and using ADB, but it seems I have done something wrong. I don't think my phone is bricked, but I can't do anything with it.
I can't seem to boot into my current ROM (an MIUI ROM), so I am trying to reinstall the ROM. I can reboot into bootloader and recovery from ADB. But when I reboot into Clockwork Recovery, none of the options work. Below the yellow line in CWR I see the following:
ClockworkMod Recovery v.3.0.2.4
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
When I select one options (e.g. Install zip from sdcard) it just gives me a black screen with the ROM Manager logo (the funny black hat with the orange circle).
All I want to do is flash a ROM so I can use my phone. I don't care if I have to do a full wipe of everything. I tried finding a way to update CWR, but the link in the thread doesn't seem to point anywhere. I also searched for a way to flash a ROM using fastboot, but none of the options seem to be for the G2.
Options I could use most:
1. How to mount system and wipe
2. How to install ROM via adb/fastboot
3. How to install the latest ClockworkMod Recovery
Any help would be appreciated.
First thing is your SD Card sound?
Are you sure changing hboot work 100% ?
Should be able to mount/wipe from recovery,
you can flash a recovery from fastboot, download the recovery .img look around for the instructions goes something like flash recovery recovery.img
Stick with v.3.0.2.4 as well
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/
You need the vision version
Or as the two other posts mention don't use the power button to select things!!!!!!!
The errors you are getting are normal after changing hboots.
What button are you using to select items in cwm?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Don't use power to select stuff in clockwork.
use either trackpad or camera button.

You know guys, I make a promise to myself every morning that I won't think like, act like, or in any way be like a noob. Today I broke my promise.
Thanks guys. Honestly, I never had a problem using the power button to select options before, so that's why this was totally freaking me out and I didn't even think that that might be the problem. But now I have installed a new ROM and am up and running again.
(quietly to myself)
I will not be a noob...I will not be a noob...I will not be a noob

[Q] Problem with ClockworkMod Recovery

Problem with ClockworkMod Recovery
I was trying to install MIUI ROM but after performing a data wipe I got an
E: unknown volme for path [sd/ext]
Back Menu Button Disabled
Davik Cache wiped
message.
I'm now not able to use any of the options in the first clockwork mod recovery screen even though I can freely move throughout them. Whenever I choose one the background remains but nothing happens.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm afraid to reboot since I have no ROM installed.
take the battery out, put it back in then power on holding the volume down button then get back in recovery wipe again then flash again

[Solve] Stuck in Jelly Bean OTA update

Hi there !
I have a little problem with the JellyBean update on my rooted One X. I didn't know that I must go back to a stock recovery before doing the update so i discovered it when it refuse to do the update.
I have done some research and i find how to flash a stock recovery (i did it with fastboot) but now i'm stuck. I reboot with holding power+volume down to get acces to the recovery, then i choose it and the update icon appear but then i have an warning panel with a phone on his side (i hope you know what i'm talking about..). Now i have a boot loop and i don't know how to fix that..
I hope someone will be able to answer me !
And sorry for my english, tell me if something is not clear.
P.S: If possible, i would prefer not having to lose my data
Did you flash the stock recovery or were you stuck before that??
Yes i flash it and i get stuck after. Now when i boot i press power+volume down and when i am in the menu i choose "Recovery", a black screen with the icon update, and then the same black screen but with a phone and a warning panel on his side.

Are you sure you got the right stock recovery, did u modify something in your rom, did u change the stock kernel to custom kernel ?
did u restore to fully stock (not just the recovery)
stock rom
stock kernel
stock recovery
I have a stock rom and a stock recovery (i guess, i have downloaded a file named endeavoru_recovery_signed.img) but i don't know for the kernel, how can i check it? The only thing i did was unlock the bootloader and root the phone, does it change the kernel?
it's much easier if you just relock the bootloader and run the RUU.
I would prefer to keep my data and installed data if it's possible.

No that does not change the kernel.
Put the phone in Fastboot USB mode and Do
Fastboot getvar version-main
You might have a old recovery installed.
Ok i have the version 2.17.401.2, is it good or not?
Edit: It's the ICS version so it isn't the right recovery version, right? I have to search a 4.0.4 version? The higher version of recovery i have found is version 1.29.401.11
This is the 2.17 stock recovery
http://db.tt/U5CK4noo
If your main version says 2.17.***.** you need this recovery !
Thank you for the link, i flashed this recovery but i still have the same problem :-/
Edit: Now i can acces to the recovery menu when i press power+volume up on the screen with the warning panel. I have some error message:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
Edit 2: I forgot to say that I wipe and format some things (don't remember which one, i try to find again the tutorial that i found) but nothing that delete data.
Edit 3: Ok i find it, that's what i did:
Wipe the cache partition
Go to Advanced and wipe dalvik and batt stats
Go to Mounts and Storage and format system, then data, then cache.

The errors ...that's fine because the stock recovery can't mount the sdcard that's normal.
The wiping caused it that it not boots. You did practically a full wipe ! Do you have the RUU or a nandroid backup from the rom.
Give your cid here, we have the main version already ... going back with a ruu is the easiest now....

OMG...
Dude, you better go RUU way, really.
I assume you have a Windows computer and HTC drivers are installed on it properly.
Looks like you've lost your data and cache but you may still have the data in your sdcard, so first, try to backup them...
Launch the CWM recovery... Connect your USB cable to the phone and then in the CWM custom recovery window, go to "mounts and storage" and select "mount USB storage".
This shall allow your computer to access the storage of your phone.
You shall see a drive on your computer named "HTC STORAGE".
That is your phone storage so copy everything you think that you need.
Then...
Download the correct RUU for your phone >> http://www.htcruu.com/?dir=Endeavor
Note: One X is called "Endeavoru", if international model. Otherwise "Endeavor".
When downloaded, power off the phone.
Press Vol down and Power buttons together till you reach the HBOOT screen.
Select fastboot.
Plug your USB cable and "fastboot" will change to "fastboot usb".
From your computer, which is on the other end of the USB cable, launch command line, from the folder which you keep your adb, fastboot files.
type "fastboot devices" and hit enter.
You shall see some serial number if you have correctly installed the drivers of the phone and if it is correctly plugged.
Now, you need to re-lock you bootloader.
This is required for RUU to perform; if your bootloader is not in "locked" or "relocked" state, RUU won't perform.
Next, type "fastboot oem lock" and hit enter.
Now, bootloader is "relocked".
Now, run the RUU executable you've downloaded and follow the instructions on the screen.
This will take you back to stock status, then, without messing with it, do the 4.1.1 update from system settings and right after your first boot of 4.1.1, go to CWM recovery again and get a BACKUP.
Good luck.

[Q] HTC One V Windroid toolkit

OK, so I installed the toolkit on my laptop, and so far have managed to unlock and root my phone.
Here is the problem.
When I boot to recovery, My phone comes up green, then the red triangle. Volume up and power gives me the Android system recovery (3) and a message on the bottom
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/command. all I can do is reboot the phone.
Ideally what I want is to be able to backup the phone, install a new kernel/rom and be able to restore it if I mess up.
Tried to search for help on the forum, but it didnt do me any good. Is there a newbie guide how to do this?
Thanks in advance

you have to flash custom recovery like CWM or TWRP
I have downloaded the CW ROM manager and installed rom manager v5.5.3.2 current recovery 5.x.x.x latest recovery 5.8.4.5. I boot into clockwork recovery mode. get the green circle with the arrow followed by the phone with the red triangle. Press volume up + power and get menu for android system recovery. With the menu
reboot
apply update from external
wipe data
Wipe cache
apply update from cache
bottom has a message E: cant open /cache/recovery/command
So i dont think I have accomplished anything except downloaded a useless app
