Video playback is not as smooth in 2.2! - Desire General

As the title says, I have noticed a slightly choppy feel to video performance since upgrading to 2.2! Video performance in 2.1 was absolutely perfect. I would be curious to know if anyone else has experienced this?
This combined with the jerky browser scrolling and various other niggles, has prompted me to downgrade to 2.1, and it really is much smoother.
I really liked some of the new features in 2.2, but it just feels like it has been poorly implemented.

Noticed that too especially when playing back 720p

[TEST] OpenDesire vs. AuraxTSense 720p video quality

OpenDesire 4.0.4 against the AuraxTSense 7.6.1 version
Pure Google Android against HTC Widget UI
I was a long time Sense UI fan, then out of curiosity and love towards Google i tried the OpenDesire project by Adam and i like very much the speed and beauty of everything.
What bothered me though was the lack of some settings in camera/videocamera. No touch to focus during video especially.
Today i tried one last test, to see who will win my heart and my Desire over.
THIS is the OpenDesire 4.0.4 shot by video.
Wiped, flashed the AuraxTSense 7.6.1 version (contrary to the title in the actual video) and shot THIS video.
Do you agree that the video by OD is far better and smooth? Only if there was that darn touch to autofocus. Maybe even DURING the shooting?
As for me, i'm nandroidRestoring my way back to OpenDesire.
Thanks for reading!
Says that the video's are private...
yeah, cannot view the videos
I forgot to change the settings.. Will do.. Check in a minute..

shooting videos is 1 thing..being able to view them decently is another..if i had the sense music player , video player, gallery, radio app, camera functions, video functions pretty widgets that exist in sense, i would go od in a heartbeat..but nope..noway..even the keyboard has to be changed to b fanctional for my language..
I've done this test many, many times.
AOSP roms with Nexus One cyanogen ported camera (like cyanogenmod, defrost and opendesire too) have the advantage of a lower datarate (6Mbit vs 7.5Mbit) which is easier on the microsd and also sometimes of a better auto-iso management especially in not-so-ideal lighting. On the other hand I think the camera app is crap in itself and lacks autofocus badly.
If you have a fast enough microsd and adjust a bit the iso on HTC Sense, you will end up probably with equal or better results.
Oh and by the way, I can't stand stock android lack of polish

[Q] Some newbie CM7 questions/concerns.

Maybe someone can answer a couple questions I have. I finally grew a set and rooted and flashed CM7 to my phone. I noticed that videos I have on my phone are choppy when playing back now. Any idea why?
Also, maybe I just don't see it, but is there a way to turn off the shutter sound in the camera?
Anyone also have any suggestions for a first time rooter/flasher?
The choppiness may be because CM7 is not 720p and the quality isn't as good, that is my guess at least. This is because CM7 is AOSP not Sense.
As for the shutter the only way I can find a way to rid it is by turning my volume down, if there is a solution I would like to know as well.
And some tips for first time rooter/flashers is make sure to back up everything! Make a nandroid backup before flashing anything. That way if any problems occur you can just revert back. Also check out different types of ROMs to fund one of your liking. Try AOSPs (CM7, UD) Sense 2.0 (WarmZ 2.2, IncROM, Re-Engineered, SkyRaider) and just anything you find intriguing. Free Wireless Tethering is a huge plus for being rooted too. Just have fun and keep nandroids!
People have made flashables that remove the shutter sound entirely, not sure where they are as I've never used them.
The video playback shouldn't be choppy, lower quality shouldn't mean lower fps- not to mention that they are still very nice quality vids.
Check to make sure if it's only choppy when playing back on your phone or if it's still choppy after you've uploaded it to your computer and play it there.
If it's only choppy on your phone it's possible you may have tried to watch it while your phone was doing background processes that ate up cpu - or - you considerably underclocked your phone.
Playback for my vids are smooth on the highest setting, and I underclocked my phone (CM7)

Stagefright isn't able to handle 720p on our phones yet. Came from CM himself.
You can get replacement camera sounds here. There is one that is silent. I did this by extracting the camera_click.ogg file and used Root Explorer to overwrite the file in system/media/audio/ui. Once I did that the camera no longer makes a sound when taking a picture.
Hope this helps.

MIUI Freshly squeezed

Has anyone noticed the miui 1.5.13_2.3.4 freshly squeezed rom has really crackly audio?
Anyone know of a fix for it?
I noticed too, I've been trying to look for some sort of fix but to no avail. If someone can help us out I'd really appreciate because I love this Rom so much but if I'm thinking of switching just because of the sound quality
I find it strange we're the only ones with this issue.

Hi for everybody.
I have a question. Why does not work well the flash the playback of videos in a browser all MIUI in the case of ruin?
Yet the youtube 480p too there is him the 720p unwatchable. Sense in the case of ruin unobjectionable 10.3 flash player.

This is interesting for me is going, 360p. 1.7.1 version is above. But it 1.7.8 were bad.
+1 flash is kinda choppy and laggy on MIUI Tom's if you compare it to sense roms.
480p youtube video on miui: runs smooth for a few seconds, then it starts to lag and the frame rate goes down to 1 or 2 fps. CPU usage: 100%
720p on sense: works flawlessly, no lag during the whole video, CPU at approximately 50% load.
And it's the same on the last 3 MIUI releases.

[Q] Youtube playback grainy/pixelated after flashing IncrediblyParanoid?

Hey guys,
Forgive my ignorance, as I have searched high and low for any information on this, but I was running TazzSense 3.6 for quite a while with no major issues other than some lag that may have been more due to the apps I had installed, and on that ROM the video playback, including youtube in HQ, was clear and great. I tend to watch a lot of youtube videos. Yesterday, because I wanted to try it out, I flashed the latest Incredibly Paranoid after doing the super duper wipe and everything seems to be working great and I love the interface.
However videos on youtube seem pixelated and grainy even on HQ, compared to the old ROM. This seems to be isolated to Youtube or perhaps flash videos because other videos seem to be fine, but playing youtube videos through the app or a browser looks a bit off. I tried turning HQ off (looks worse obviously) and back on again. I also tried messing with all the combinations of Paranoid settings, which changed the look of the UI but not the video playback. I seem to notice a few rows of black pixels to the top and bottom of the video; it's my understanding that these videos are 480p in HQ, so in my mind should fill the screen, could something be scaling vertically slightly and causing the degradation in quality? Are there any other things I could check on? Any input greatly appreciated; if this belongs somewhere else please forgive me.
Yeah that's a bug in older job kernel. Wait for either new cm10.1 or pa jb4.2 or flash evervolv with new 3.0 kernel.

Has anyone seen a fix for jerky kitkat video playback?

I just started using a gopro, and thought my issues were with its video recording, but it looks like everything that's 1080p in kitkat no longer plays back smoothly, but is a bit jerky, and it looks like there is a framerate issue.
(This is with the default player, or MX)
I don't see any mention of a fix for this anywhere, and I'd think it would be considered a major kitkat feature bug.
