OpenDesire 4.0.4 against the AuraxTSense 7.6.1 version
Pure Google Android against HTC Widget UI
I was a long time Sense UI fan, then out of curiosity and love towards Google i tried the OpenDesire project by Adam and i like very much the speed and beauty of everything.
What bothered me though was the lack of some settings in camera/videocamera. No touch to focus during video especially.
Today i tried one last test, to see who will win my heart and my Desire over.
THIS is the OpenDesire 4.0.4 shot by video.
Wiped, flashed the AuraxTSense 7.6.1 version (contrary to the title in the actual video) and shot THIS video.
Do you agree that the video by OD is far better and smooth? Only if there was that darn touch to autofocus. Maybe even DURING the shooting?
As for me, i'm nandroidRestoring my way back to OpenDesire.
Thanks for reading!
Says that the video's are private...
yeah, cannot view the videos
I forgot to change the settings.. Will do.. Check in a minute..

shooting videos is 1 thing..being able to view them decently is another..if i had the sense music player , video player, gallery, radio app, camera functions, video functions pretty widgets that exist in sense, i would go od in a heartbeat..but nope..noway..even the keyboard has to be changed to b fanctional for my language..
I've done this test many, many times.
AOSP roms with Nexus One cyanogen ported camera (like cyanogenmod, defrost and opendesire too) have the advantage of a lower datarate (6Mbit vs 7.5Mbit) which is easier on the microsd and also sometimes of a better auto-iso management especially in not-so-ideal lighting. On the other hand I think the camera app is crap in itself and lacks autofocus badly.
If you have a fast enough microsd and adjust a bit the iso on HTC Sense, you will end up probably with equal or better results.
Oh and by the way, I can't stand stock android lack of polish

I've noticed some of the ROMs
- Don't record in 720p
- Some limit video to 30m or less
- Some have aan awful interface (the sense one is much better)
So, I'm looking for a ROM that has 720p, doesn't put a limit on video recording, and ideally has the sense UI look (i.e. no big grey box around the video taking up half the screen!)

Good luck, if you want the SenseUI look and feel of a camera then you're not going to get that anywhere else except the SenseUI ROMs.
I believe the length limitation is hard coded into the Camera source so you're going to have to use an AOSP build that has modified the code to use a longer period.
I'm cool with sense ui. Just not cool with the HTC **** like friend stream and peep, so I guess what I really want is stock froyo with sense, minus the HTC aps.

There's a few of those kicking around, not fully clean but with a lot removed. You could remove them yourself through ADB if you wanted..
No idea how to do that.
So,
Anyone suggest the best rom for
Sense UI (I could use a different launcher) and 720p.

lambros custom rom r3.1 EXTREME
The video duration maximum of 29:59 is enforced to evade an EU tax for camcorders.
I wonder if that limit is present in stock ROMs that are exclusively distributed outside of the EU?!
Hi, I've been using the DeFrost and CM ROMs and I notice that their camera app records 720p videos at 30fps. Does any Sense ROMs manage to do that?
hi Malaysian, well Sense ROM can get close to 30fps, but not there, basically because of limitations within the "Sense" itself, that's why CM,DF and OD chose to abandon "Sense" and go open source ROM
A month back, OD/CM were no better than HTC 2.2. I used to run these three. In the recorded vid, except the bit rates, there was hardly a difference. All managed 27-29FPS average and 10-11FPS lows. So how do you say 30FPS fixed... Rumors?

I should clarify. It "looks" 30fps with rather good framerates. So you guys are saying that AOSP camcorder and Sense camcorder is virtually the same?

I can't speak for others but there is definitely no noticeable difference between the video output in my experience of ~3months. The Sense ROM cam has options and UI unmatched on the AOSP ROMs though.

Is there a fast enough camera app that produse decent quality photos to be used as the default in CM7? I like d default in sence rom. Is there a similar app to be used in cm7?
Vignate, HLR Cam and all others i tried are slow. The faster cam apps produce poor quality photos.

I have tried camera360 and vignette, as they were the best camera apps they told me. Both take about 10 seconds to process a photo though which annoyed me, and imo the quality was not even better than the stock cyanogenmod app.
So I keep using the stock one, which can also make videos (as many camera apps can't). Try using a different theme that changes the layout of the stock app a little. It still looks like ****, but at least a bit better
Hi,
how about this?

on page 3 it is posted "With default parameters aosp stock camera beats miui in terms of sharpness and focusing."
Also I read about problems uninstalling it, so I haven't tried it myself...
I'm using MIUI Camera, pretty solid and good.
I've been on the camera hunting too. The ONLY app which satisfied me (and reminded me of the features my previous phone -n95- had) was Camera Advance But on the CM7Nightlies at least, the app produces a black screen when taking photos, rendering the camera useless untill you reboot the device. The dev knows about it, but it has been months since the last update.
But it's worth the try if you ask me. Photo quality is awesome.
I have been trying Sense Roms on my Desire for quite some time now and i do not find the same Camera image quality in any of the Sense Roms(nor stock) as that of MIUI or Cyanogenmod.
There is a lot if flickering lines when i try to capture an image and the resultant image is also of very low quality and sometimes even blurry . I love the Sense Roms for their cool effects, skins and what not but the due to bad image quality on most i am almost always forced to revert back to MIUI(as they churn out regular updates). Can anyone please put forward a solution or some work around for this?
Sense Rom developers have been doing a great job with porting DHD, Sensation etc to Desire along with some awesome tweaks though. Also not to forget the audio, especially from COOL SENSE 3D, is of a higher quality than either MIUI/cyanogenmod.
Is anyone out there facing the same problem?
I find that sense camera quality is better than cm7/miui.. though thats just me. I was on miui then i started to miss sense.
I have the same problem.
Sense roms take photos too dark and MIUI and cyanogen takes photos perfectly.
Do you know any solutions?

Have you tried using a search engine to perhaps find correct settings for a camera?
Also, MIUI and AOSP use the Desire's full 5MP while Sense only uses 4MP in order to make the photo full screen.
I'd love to have panorama and HDR, I tried a ROM last month that had the options (I think it was a sense ROM) but they didn't work well and it force-closed sometimes, etc.
I've also found that some of the newer android version ROMs seem to lack either H.264 or 720p video.
Front-facing camera is nice to have, but even the ROMs with that seem to suck for Skype.
Help!
You can download both of them from the play store... I have both and they work great..

wait, that's not true. I'm running cyanogenMod 6.2.1 and I have 720 video
how jerky is it? (i dont just mean playback on the phone itself, i mean no matter what device you play it back on. in other words, when i use AOSP cameras at 720p, there is jerkiness baked into the output. stutter, judder, jerkiness, dropped frames, insufficient fps, call it what you want, motion portrayal is poor especially during slow pans.)

hmm, yeah i guess it is a little jerky.
Well thanks for the link in your sig, got that ROM running now and it seems like a keeper
Well, ok, if you're serious about all this, I will add that changing your scheduler to BFQ is probably the single best improvement you can make to videocam recording smoothness. You'll need a kernel that supports this. Almost any custom kernel will. If you're going to use the ROM in my sig (the Captain's 5.07 stock ROM) I would recommend the "Underworld" kernel. If you're running a AOSP ROM , I'm not as familiar with those choices (although I would recommend Reloaded anyway, and the "Mason" kernel included with it supports BFQ already, even if it isn't optimal for general, non-videocam performance). Note you'll have to do additional research on how to *activate* the BFQ scheduler even once you have a kernel that supports it. Or maybe you knew all this. But others may be interested. Happy searching..
used hdr camera + with cm7.2 (nightlies) and worked pretty fantastic. Def considered it better quality than stock camera and here is my disclaimer im not a photo buff... lol
In my opinion the Sense Rom Cameras look better. I've probably ran just about every rom on the OG EVO and that is what I have noticed.
