[Q] countdown and clocks - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got an orange htc desire, rebranded, rooted and unlocked and i've been enjoying the various roms released on the dev forum.
Currently running Pays Desire Froyo Sense v1.8, with radio 32.43.00.32u_5.09.00.20
The most stable and quickest rom though , to me, is open desire. the only thing that stops me from going wholesale over to open desire is that i love the clock widget in Sense.
Specifically the countdown clock runs in silent mode and breaks through it when the alarm rings. this means i can turn the phone to silent so i don't get interrupted by phone calls or emails but can confidently know that the alarm will sound. I've just tried a couple of timers from the market and they don't seem to have this function.
anyone got any ideas?

Alarm does not ring

Hi,
I'm using the standard alarm on the TP II (not G-Alarm) and it has occured to me twice that my alarm did not ring in the morning! The phone was in the charger, alarm was set and I turned off the screen (not the phone, just the screen). Next morning I woke up and the alarm had switched off (even though it was set to ring every morning) and there was no little "bell" in the taskbar showing that I had missed a notification ...
Can't believe this is happening again. The sound of my TP continuously crashed also causing me to miss my morning alarms!
Anyone with the same problems in here?
Well, this is a WM bug. We alle hope that it will be solved with 6.5
It seems to be happening less with the tp2 when I compare it to my hermes though. Mine jus doesn't ring, Or when it doens't ring and you put your screen on, it starts to ring (being 2 hours late).
G-alarm removes this bug at install, at least, it asks you if g-alarm should do it.
Alright thanks.
Back to G-Alarm I guess...
I've had this same problem, and I'm quite annoyed, as it's not been an issue for me in ages with my Kaiser, Xperia.
I tried G-alarm ages ago on the Kaiser & it was unreliable. Can people vouch for it working properly, and getting all the way through an mp3 track rather than just playing 30 seconds or whatever? I may try it out again if this problem is not resolved.
I have had the problem of the alarm failing to go off. I never did on the Samsung omnia, with Samsungs own alarm. But no one’s managed to get it on any other wm device. So I use cradlealarm.
Not failed to go off, but it can be a nightmare to stop ringing.
Every winmo device I've ever used has had oem alarm issues. Not at all reliable. 3rd party is the way to go. No more issue.
yeah, right. 3rd party is the way. mine also having alarm problem, it won't ring when i tested it on the spot. was kinda disappointed, the damn phone cost alot and a simple alarm program couldn't work. i use 3rd party alarm and it works!
Didn't have problems on my Touch and on my Diamond, did have problems on my Touch Pro and now Touch Pro 2.
G-Alarm works flawlessly though DavidMC0. And you need more than 30 seconds to hear the alarm? Try setting it louder, I use the standard tune in G-Alarm, works great. Flip it over for snooze, shake it to turn it off...
I have the same problem on a Norwegian standard ROM... Which version of G-alarm do you use?
I have the same problem,
I use the 6.5 with manila 2.1 and i still have the same problem.
Anyone talked to HTC about that ?
We are not supose to buy 3rd part app when you have payed for a function that must work.
Oki,
I´ll just write to them then.
"Hello, I have Bought the wonderfull HTC Touch Pro 2. I´m a member of the XDA site plus many other and we have decided to write to you about a very Big problem. The Alarm does not Ring in the Morning and we have missed some important appoinments because of that. I know you have worked hard to achieve a great business phone, but what good is a buisness phone if you are missing your meetings ?"
What do you think Guys ?
???
Any One ???

WM6.5 alarm clock not always working

Using stock ROM (Vodafone) and the in-built alarm clost doesn't always work... not sure why, as it's random.
Anyone else got the same problem, or better still a reason why it's not working?
I am using a custom wav sound, which is large (attached) - but without it the alarm just doesn't wake me up!
The build-in alarm of WM is unreliable since it's birth.
Long, long time ago, when I overslept once more, I bought pTravelAlarm.
A few bucks and your problem is over.
(But there are also free alarms like Klaxon.)
I have not had any problems with the alarm actually going off. However, I have noticed that it will sometimes play not only the alarm sound but also the "reminder" sound. I'm not sure why this is and it doesn't seem to happen every day. I would suggest trying a smaller sound file or maybe set up a test of the alarm and your custom sound during some time when you can observe it. Perhaps you can see if there are any special conditions that make it not go off (other programs running, checking email or something, etc...)
I am having the same problem all of a sudden
It always worked on 6.1 (and some custom ROMs)
It worked on the official 6.5 ROM
I installed Tomtom and alarm stopped working. I removed it and the alarm worked. I installed some other apps (.NET 3.5, email scheduler, timesynctz, flitsnav) and the alarm stopped working. I haven't been able to pin it down on 1 app. I removed them one by one but the problem now persists...
I have had the same problem. Woke up to late and looked at the screen where it said that he couldn't connect to the internet (probably to sync my email). When I pressed ignore, the alarm went off, email came in etc.
Maybe it better to use Klaxon or G alarm...
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\Sounds]
“Repeat”=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{15F11F90-8A5F-454c-89FC-BA9B7AAB0CAD}]
"Options"=dword:4000001B
Ok, what does that code snipit (registry settings) actuall mean/do???
Same thing here... alarm sometimes fails to go off. I have noticed when it happens that the clock is locked up and is not at the current time. Also the top left of the screen says "messaging" instead of "Start"
I've noticed the messaging deal pop up from time to time for no particular reason... and when it does the clock stops keeping time. I think the fact that the clock stops is the only reason the alarm fails to go off. Any button or screen press will unfreeze the clock.
This is on a TP2 T-Mobile official 6.5 rom. Reflashed several times, and problem always returns. Unsure if it happened on the original shipped rom.
I've had issue and changed to SPB Time, never had an issue there.
Are you sure your phone wasn't locking up in the middle of the night? I have had that happen, the Blank Screen of Death locks me up, the phone just sits idle and alarms don't go off.
has anyone tried the registry settings of HD2Owner? You have to add the new settings? How does it work?

[Q] skyraider Sense 3.3.3 Alarm issue

Having a problem with skyraider Sense 3.3.3 and using the lock screen
3) normal+trackball unlock
When the alarm goes off the only way to turn it off is to turn off the phone and reboot it...
Anyone else notice this?
User error, in short.
It's been heavily emphasized in the Skyraider thread that you cannot use the HTC alarm clock with anything other than the stock HTC lockscreen. It is for this very reason that ihtfp69 included the Google desk clock in the ROM.

[Q] Clock animation glitch after 2.3 update

My first post here.
I have received a DHD back from HTC Service after a camera module has been replaced for a new one (you probably know what I'm talking about They have installed a new software version with Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Since then I have noticed a rather strange behavior of HTC standard flipping clock widget that wasn't present on Froyo. When I restart the phone the widget works perfectly smooth for some time and flips as it should. Then, randomly after some hours/days right after unlocking the phone when the weather animation starts the flip of the clock is terribly glitchy. Then when I go to another screen and come back the flip is normal, but from then on it is always working badly after unlocking.
I thought that it is a memory managment issue, but I have found no connection so far between programs occupying the memory and an animation lag. The problem shows itself sometimes half an hour after restarting when there are almost no programs in memory as well as after two days of intense usage of different applications. I have switched off and on weather animation onscreen but it did not change anything.
Anyone of you had a similar experience after update? On Froyo the clock was working perfectly all of the time...

[Q] Lost alarm function???

I recently rooted my DINC (follwoing instrucstions over on androidforums), and then installed Touch Of Blue 3.0.
Before rooting, when I tapped on the HTC Clock widget, I was then able to set alarms, timers, etc.
After rooting and TOB 3.0, I still have the Clock widget, but nothing happens when I tap on the clock - I can't get to any alarm, timer, anything.
I noticed TOB had been updated since I installed it, so I installed the newer version, but still no alarm clock.
Did some reading on the forum and found out that maybe the widget doesn't work anymore (?). So I installed Fancy Widget, which looks like the regular HTC clock widget. I have Fancy Widget configured to launch the alarm when I touch on the time. But still, when I touch it, nothing happens - no alarm function is brought up. If I configure Fancy Widget to do other things when I touch on the time, those other things properly happen.
So, I am wondering if I lost the alarm function on this phone?
And if so, how do I get it back, because I really like that alarm widget. Because I couldn't get that alarm clock to display, I installed a different alarm app, but I like the widget much better, and would prefer to have that back.
Any suggestions?
Here's the kicker, though. I had also rooted another DINC, and installed TOB 2.2, and now the updated TOB 3.0. On that phone, the widget works fine and brings up the alarm/timer/etc just fine.
I wonder how I lost it on one DINC but not on the other. Either way, how do I get it back?

It does work on 3.0? It shouldnt, because i unknownly removed it by removing the worldclock.apk. Tob2.2 still has the worldclock.apk so it should work on it. I assume on the phone not working you did a clean flash of 3.0, and on the other a flash over of 2.2 with 3.0 without a wipe. Since there was no wipe, worldclock.apk carried over to 3.0.
It wouldnt work on mine either but i dont use the alarm so i never noticed, and no one else has ever mentioned it. Once i put the worldclock.apk back in /system/app, it started working fine again.
To fix it flash this thru recovery. http://dinc.does-it.net/Mods/World_Clock.zip

Thanks! That worked like a charm and was easy.
Yes, the phone that went directly to TOB3.0 after rooting was the one without the world_clock.
The phone that went to TOB2.2 after rooting, and then added 3.0 still had the world_clock, and yes, I just flashed 3.0 over 2.2 without clearing all the mounts and stuff.
Now... Any idea why the DINC that went from TOB2.2 to TOB3.0 has trouble with Google Locaiton services (it sporatically works, and does not work for the clock widget), while the DINC that went right to TOB3.0 as well as the other 2 DINC 2's in the house do not have any problems with Google Location services? The problem with the location services has been since rooting. The locaiton in the clock widget has not worked since then, and Maps rarely gets the current location either.
