Does anyone know how IP addresses are dished out to EVOs under 3g service? Is it possible to get a static IP, or even to read what your IP is on your phone? I'm trying to setup something in which knowing my IP address and being able to predict it would be helpful.
Thanks!

Ok. I live in a area where Sprint's 4G isn't present at all. However, a company that provides internet through WiMAX to us people out in BFE, who can't get landline internet, are able to use this. The DL speeds I think, max out for this company at around 3-6Mbps. Instead of using Sprint 3G coverage, which isn't full RevA 3.1Mbps, it's like 1-1.5Mbps.
Long story short, can I/could I modify my 4G/WiMAX MAC Address or something to jump on their towers and fully get my $10/Month worth?
I tried looking for this on my own, but the things that I am finding are if I recently did a OS Update, and my MAC has been mixed up and scrambled, not to fully mod the MAC.
edit: would there be a way, to even know if this would work? as in do they have to know my MAC address to provide me the service? Basically, an approval?
edit: post has been moved.
Wrong forum or not; This is a damn good question...

At least I am not the only one who wants to know. Lol.
I could be way off base, but this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733773) talks about editing wimax signal settings, maybe exploring in that menu will let you edit other wimax settings to get you what you want. Perhaps somebody with more technical knowledge can confirm/dispell this theory. Hopefully this at least points in the right direction...

Sorry to burst your bubble but you have RSA keys on your phone for a reason. to verify you are who you are and to make sure your data doesn't get mixed up and that you can use clear's towers (sprint basically).
The company probably has a way to identify authorized users on its network and who is not authorized to use it.
That is the issue you ill most likely run into when you are trying to connect to their network.
Technically you shouldn't be able to do that but maybe the company doesn't give a damn....Ehh
I'm not 100% sure this is what's happening but from my basic knowledge it looks like someone is poisoning my dns and in so doing so DOS's my network. I was using Google dns and the person was able to hijack it and switch it to sighroyal.com please don't visit this site as I'm 100% sure its malicious. I am using cyanogenmod7 on my HTC EVO 4g I edited my resolv.conf file I believe that's what its called, it let's you edit the dns name servers. I installed setdns and tried to change my dns but it stays at 8.8.8.8, does cyanogenmod7 for HTC EVO 4g use custom dns servers? Everytime I first log on packets always come from gtalk and I blocked all internet to it but still its able to communicate. Is the gtalk coming from me or my carrier? From my studies it seems gtalk is the source of my grief. What exactly is it and why does it always send packets when I first start the internet? I never get any replies here, I hope somebody can possibly help. Thank you

I did change my ip and the poison dns logs are still there. It's just on one phone, the other phones are fine. Somehow they have me locked in. I've thought about every possible scenario and I can't think of how its being done.:l
So I recently got this phone and it came with Android 2.3.6
I stand next to my old school and it catches the router TP-LINK### and connects, gathers IP address and the signal bar displays as good.
Finally, when I try to access the web it doesn't seem to work and says I need to check settings. What else would I need to check? Anyone know?

Nope, I've tried that app WiFi Manager but it's still the same. Minutes ago I was next to another building with good signal and again, the same problem.

I will check those and try tomorrow, thanks. In the mean time more suggestions are welcome.
So I just succesfully connected to my current school's router and the web is accessable and downloading is just perfect. That sure is a relief that it's not a problem of my phone.
Gonna try checking the static IP address option later on the other school.
Is there a way to setup the phone so it will only use your home wifi when it is available? I don't want to manually have to change this all the time. I want it to use my home network when it can connect to it. If it can't then use 4g. Anyone?

In cyanogen there are profiles you can set.
But if you're stock there are third party apps that you can use. I believe they even track your location to know if you're home or not.
Or just leave WiFi on all the time and it will connect when in range. But might kill your battery quicker since it will be scanning constantly

Thanks for your response. How do you give someone a thank you or whatever its called? Someone flipped me **** because I hadnt given any. I dont know how.
I use LLama ---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rZWJhYi5MbGFtYSJd
My wife uses [email protected] ---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hZWJlaW5yb3RoLndpZmlob21lIl0.
They both work. LLama does so much more than what you desire and [email protected] only does what you want.

Click the thanks button on the left side under the name and post count. If you're on the xda app just click the post.
I'm pretty sure the phone will only connect to a network when you tell it to so you can just leave wifi on. From my experience wifi didn't really use that much more power. It'll just connect automatically within range.
Additionally, there's ways to change the scan interval times so it doesn't check constantly.
If you wanna impress some folks buy some Nfc tags and set them up.

Hi...I just got a Galaxy II Note, and when I try to go on the internet, I get a page that says Welcome to Cisco Wireless Network. It asks for a username and password, and everytime I type in a new web address it redirects me back to this page. Has anyone seen this, and how can do I fix it?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That's the router you are using. Has nothing to do with your phone.
Thank-You

You were right, I was trying to go on the internet while at work, and that was the error message. When I tried to go on from home, I had no problem. Thank-you so much!
