Im currently running Fresh 1.01. I flashed fresh after running Baked snack for a few days. My question is, since B.S didnt have apps2sd and Fresh 1.01 does, how would I go about getting my SD compatible to install apps to my sd card? Would it affect my root and NAND unlock?
Because I read you have to partition your sd card= wiping all data off
You don't have to do anything with your SD card if you're running 2.2. It's an option / feature on froyo.
From your home screen press menu - settings- applications- manage applications. You can click on the app you want to move to SD. There should be an option to move to SD.
Ps: not all apps can be moved to SD.
In fresh updater there is an option to also enable apps2sd. If am not mistake this one allows you to move all your apps2sd.

Im running 2.1. sorry forgot to mention that
How do you access this?

Your rooted why not update to fresh latest rom? It's 2.2 and it's base on the official ota, you'll not be missing anything. All the fresh goodies are include in the latest Rom and it's rooted.
Just do a titanium and nandroid back up and flash the latest fresh, update your radio and wimax and you're good to go....

Hmmm.. may have to do this.
I just wanted to wait a week or so before going to 2.2. Cause then better ROMS will be out and things.
I remember when I was jailbreaking my ipod touches for every new firmware- maybe that has been brought over.

Yo,
Big thanks to XDA!
The short version.I'm in Alaska, we won't get froyo working correctly on our network up here for a while........Right now I'm running a CDMA Unrevoked 2.1 rom and the phone does everything I need except app2sd. I've done allot of hunting with no conclusive answers to my following question.
Can I push my apps the sd card on the unmodified CDMA unrevoked rom.(try saying that 10 times fast...)I have partitioned the sd with clockwork (rom manger) but have not been able to find a way to push apps to the sd with an unmodified unrevoked rom.I may be missing the most obvoius answer but I'm asking anyway......
I know this will be asked. Why not run a custom rom?
I have run a few modded roms, but I have issues with them on our network up here. Not the roms fault,so I'm working with what we have. The best (no bugs) rom I've run up here, is the unrevoked 2.1 cdma rom.
If app2sd cannot be done on the stock 2.1 unrevoked rom I can accept that and wait.I just need confirmation for the masters.
Any help is appreciated!
THanks,
Nick
If your using a rooted stock sense rom just flash this boot to get app2sd to work on your phone.

Its for cellsouth but works with ACS according to the post and it worked fine on my GCI/Digitel phone as well.
I just used Darktremor's apps2sd. Make sure and move the Dalvik Cache too as you will still run out of space on the desire.
Here are the commands for apps2sd

Awesome! I downloaded both files and installed as recommended. I already had the SD partition using Rom manager so I only had to flash from the SD. Looks like its working so far.
Thanks!

Yo!
So to give an update and a hint if others on ACS are setting this up. If I move that dalvic cache to SD the phone is dropping the network. Phone and internet. I moved dalvic cache back to internal and all is well. It may be due to a new topram 32g SD card I installed at the same time as app2sd , but I'm okay with the compromise on internal space given the phone is not glitchy at all now. Figured I would give a heads up to anyone up here.

I rooted my phone to 2.3 (Cyanogen Mod 7). There is a WiFi problem that nobody can explain, so I am happy to revert back to the stock OS and do the official update to 2.2. But after reading a few posts I am wondering about one thing: Apps to SD. Constantly running out of memory was my biggest hangup with 2.1 and the reason I rooted my phone in the first place. So my question is does anyone know if there is a difference in Apps to SD when comparing 2.2 to 2.3? For example, does 2.3 allow you to store more apps on your SD card than 2.2?
I am not speaking officially on the matter, but from experience. My answer would be no. My apps have kept the same amount of memory on the phone in 2.2 as they did in 2.3

Cyanogen gives u way more internal memory, plus it gives u the option of moving way more apps to the sd card than the official froyo update...the only reason I went back to the official froyo rom "rooted" was because of flash lite but I had to get rid of a lot of apps I had while using cyanogen because I didn't have enogh memory to keep them....o and by the way the official froyo rom "rooted" has no bloatware but even like that it still doesn't comapre co CM7...SO in my opinion if u don't care about FLASH LITE then stay with CM7..trust me...

If you have s-off via alpharev, you can flash one of the patched h-boots to change the partition table sizes. I'd talk to someone smarter than myself before I went changing those, though. Try in irc. Hope that helps.
Edit: This does not work. The modified partition tables are Bravo specific.
Yeah, I doubt there is any difference, but I can say that CM does give you a heck of a lot more space on your phone. I'm on CM6 and I'm really liking it, but I do miss a couple of things like flash lite, but I don't think that I miss them enough to go back...
Dark Tremors a2sd
I'm using the rooted "official" Froyo 2.2.1 and added Dark Tremor's a2sd. I moved all apps and even the dalvik cache to sd (formatted the ext partition as ext3) and it works beautifully. Even after loading over 40 apps (in addition to all the apps-bloatware in the ROM) I still show over 102mb free. I'm very pleased.

Where did you find your rooted 2.2? And did you have any problems with the radio and S-off?

The rooted "official" 2.2.1 is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022518
I don't have S-Off on my phone, but it is rooted. I partitioned my SD card for a2sd (have an ext3 partition). The ROM already has the updated radio.

P/S: Just install the app ZD BOX and it required Android 2.2 or Higher. You dont need to root just find that Soft in market and install. You can move all the app to the SD card with that soft
I'm using it without root.
Just installed ZD BOX, Great app, means I can remove my battery widget, task killer, 3G watchdog & App to SD, Cheers

Here's the link for Dark Tremor's a2sd. Highly recommended!
I flashed the new CM7 nightly, did a nandroid, went to try a new sense rom, came back and loaded the nandroid and none of my apps are loaded, besides a few that were stored on the internal I guess.
Anyone have any idea on how to point apps2sd in the right direction for my apps, or how to get them from my nandroid?
Was sd ext checked when did a nandroid before you flashed the sense Rom?

I just got my og Evo 4g (on the 3d now) back on for my wife since she dropped hers and is in 2 pieces lol. I havent been on the 4g forum in a long long time and need some help from you guys.
I have found out the im on android 2.2 with baseband version 2.15.00.11.19
Was running Eternal Prophecy v6.1 and on 2.6.32.27 netarchy kernel. I know im pretty far behind and want to know how i would go about getting the phone up to date and run a rom that is pretty stable since its for my wife. She has been bashing me ever since ive found out about rooting and flashing roms, so i want to hook her up with a stable rom with all bloatware removed, and show her that "aftermarket" roms are way better than the one that came with the phone. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Oooohhhhh....1 thing, i dont have the SD card anymore and most likely will be putting her SD card in, would that be ok?
Yes that should be okay. Might need to partition the card via recovery. Roms I have been using cm7 for aosp and mikG for sense. They are both good. Kernels that are out for gingerbread are anthrax, lionfish, and a couple of others. If you want to go straight stock give tommytomatoes classic rom a go. He has tweaked that rom pretty good. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply....I'm still kinda noob on partitioning lol, what do you mean exactly by partitioning via recovery? Is that the whole ext4 thing?
If you are running the latest version of Clockwork mod recovery, you have the option to partition the SD card directly from the recovery. Hope that help man.

What do I do after I partition the SD card?
Partition your card 32/1024, once you do that your SD card should be complete. Partitioning your card will delete everything in your card so be cautious and backup your memory onto a computer

What's partitioning actually do? If I back up my wifes SD card then partition the SD card....do i. just copy the backed up data to the card?
S-offed and rooted when I first got it. Removed all the bloatware, and got some needed space back. Tried to install custom ROMS that I found off of xda. When flashed the Rom with unofficial cwm recovery, the phone booted back up, but with no signal. When trying to connect through WiFi, under the quick settings option said "Error". Cannot use WiFi or get a signal. Was wondering if it had anything to do with the bootloader not being unlocked. Went to htcdev.com to unlock bootloader, downloaded the Rom update utility for the virgin mobile wildfire s, the ruu told me my Rom image needed updated. After starting the update, phone reboited with the silver HTC on the screen, then shut off and restarted only to be told by my computer that there was a "device id" error. Anyone know why no signal with custom flashed ROMS? Thanks.

Have you been flashing GSM roms? If so i believe this have been caused because of that. Roms that you should flash on your phone should be CDMA only.
I'm not sure. I mean I'm pretty sure they're CDMA roms cause I searched "htc wildfire s virgin mobile cdma custom roms" on Google and found like 5 or 6 roms. I've been trying to get some sense 3.5 roms for it but I've been having problems with no service.
If you go to the Wildfire S Android Development section, there are several active threads for Marvelc phones.
Try:
-[Rom] [Kernel] [Soff] [Many More] Team MarvelUSc which has a ton of stock ROMS and custom ROMs.
-[WFSDEV][AROMA] .sense, a customizable Sense 3.5 ROM for the Wildfire S & Salsa which is a Sense 3.5 ROM with some Marvelc support (some users have reported issues).
-[WIP] [ROM] [AOSPKERNEL] SSCM7 for CDMA Wildfire S which works with bugs with MMS and the camera.
One of those should work for you. These are just some examples of popular threads. There are many, many more ROMs out there.
Thank you. Sorry for being lazy and not looking through all the threads, there are just so many out there and I don't always know exactly where to look. That's why I just made my own topic so I could get some user/dev advice quicker. Also, does Astro File Manager let you change folder permissions such as read/write? I.e. I'm trying to delete the virgin mobile boot animation and it wouldn't let me.
ASTRO does not permit you to change root directories as it does have root privileges.
It is best to use Root Explorer or Root Browser, or something similar.
I use Root Browser and never have any issues and it's free. You can easily change permissions, copy & paste files and folders, etc. I have never personally tried Root Explorer.
Thank you for l the replies. Thought I wouldn't hear anything back for awhile. Gonna download root browser and try that out. Got the playstation one boot logo with sound and wanna try it out but gotta get rid of the vm one first cause its really obnoxious. If anyone has cdma roms or come across any will you post them in this topic so I can try them out?
I'm running jmz's v1.5 right now, just make sure u partition your SD card for it.

Is it a sense 3.5 rom and if so could you provide the link for me so I can test it? I have a 32gb SD card with 28gb free. How much should I partition it?
I partition 512mb and about 60 swap run dalvik off sdcard using app2sd. Works great. Really smooth 2.1 rom.
P.S. kernel oc's to 806 mhz

I'm new with the app2sd and data2sd and I'm eerie about messing with it until I read more or get more feedback on it. I did read about increasing my internal storage to 150mb with data2sd and partitioning my SD card but I'm kind of scared to do it cause I'm afraid something will go wrong.

The internal storage is 150mb all the time unless u use a partition. It's very simple to do, just make sure u copy all your music, pix, etc to a computer before making the partition as this will format your card.

Its very easy. If you don't have anything worth saving on your sd card (or if you do, back it all up on the computer), go to recovery choose advanced then partition sd card. Then it will ask you the size. Choose whatever you want. I chose 1GB just to be on the safe side in case i decide to go app crazy. Then everything else is automatic.
If you want to go further and free up more of your /data partition use the apps2sd app and move dalvik-cache to SD.
What apps2sd program do I use and where can I get it?
If u r using jmz's rom it has the apps2sd GUI app preinstalled. U can use it to move dalvik cache to SD, zipalign on boot, etc, but once u make the partition and install the ROM, your apps will automatically move to your SD partition. No need to do it manually.

Make sure u have cwm 5.0.2.6 if u have a different one u could run
Into problems, also check your hboot. I'm on 1.06 and recommend the same. Also make sure u r clearing dalvik cache, formatting boot, data, system, cache, and SD ext before installing ROM. I would also create a new partition of 512, so it will be a completely clean install. If u have done everything right u will have no problems, if something wrong has happened, most likely it was an error u made and can be fixed.

I partitioned my SD card for 4gb with a 256mb swap (which I don't quite know what that means) I have a 32gb class 10 SD card and I don't even use a 1/3 of the space so I figured I'd partition using the biggest option available. I flashed jmz's rom and everything went okay. I currently have 102mb of internal free by using the link2sd method and I ended up flashing back to the stock vm Tom cause I didn't like how jmz's only had around 56mb free. Is there any way to get more than 56 or is that cause all of the stuff on the rom?
