Evening All
I'm just curious as to what which people are using at the moment.
On my G1 and initially on my Desire I used Amon Ra, but people seem to be talking a lot more now about ClockwordMod.
Which do you prefer and why?
i prefer clockwork, but, only as i dont understand how to set up amon ra and and use it so ive never had chance to test it.
I am using clockwork it was a one click op with unrevoked
Me too i used Clockwork, id like to try also Amon Ra because is similar recovery of Hero that i used soo much time.
I just love ROM Manger app so clockwork mod came naturally for me.
nobody AMON RA?
I'm using Amon RA!
...love MS USB Toggle
USB feature id hidden but working in Clockworkmod, me find no reason to AmonRa!
Sent from my Desire using XDA App

Using amonra cause of partitioning SD card is damn bad in cwm recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
No one using both? xD
I have AmonRA flashed directly as recovery and Clockwork as update.zip so when you get to recovery it loads AmonRA but you can flash SD update.zip and it loads ClockworkMod.
How did you do that? I thought there was a feature on RM that let you flash alternate recoveries. And, if I flashed CW it would show me the option to flash Amon Ra if I wanted it.
I have Amon Ra, it is bullet proof. But, have thought about both. CW seems to have more issues.
Anyone have good detailed info on how to use both?
Amon Ra too, coming from a G1, its a more familiar recovery to me

What I did is install Clockwork Mod as it comes with the update.zip and flash Amon Ra with unrevoked. Despite unrevoked comes with Clockwork Mod, you can start it before plugin the phone to the PC and select which recovery you want to use (select the file), so you can download Amon Ra, select if with unrevoked and flash it as custom recovery. If you keep your Clockwork Mod update.zip you can launch Amon Ra as default and select flash SD update.zip to launch Clockwork Mod.
BTW, unrevoked needs a Sense UI ROM. I tryed doing this with OpenDesire and didnt work so if you're not using a Sense UI I suggest you do a Nandroid, flash a Sense UI, do the unrevoked thing and restore the Nandroid back. Its kinda pain in the ass but it works...
Thanks,
I know I am on a desire thread, I have an N1. But, will look at the zip stuff.
I thought for me I could install CW and see my amonra recovery in the "flash alternate recovery" box. Then flash whichever recovery I wanted. If amonra, flash it and back out of CW and use amonra as usual.
Sounds too easy to work.
Ken
AzureusPT,
Please let me know if my previuos post is correct, or do I need to do what you did.
If so:
1. Does CW automatically get put on SD when you flash it thru Rom Manager as a .zip?
2. How do you make AR default? And get back to it after using CW. Just reflash it thru the "Flash Alternate Recovery" in Rom Manager?
Ken
clockworkmod, very easy to use
Got it all figured out.
Clockwork and Ra working fine together. Alternating recoveries very easy.

Flash the Amon RA one through UnRevoked 3 and then put the ClockWork Recovery on the root of the SD Card as Update.zip (via fake flash). I have this setup but to be honest Amon RA is superior so I hardly ever use the clockwork one

I updated clockwork recovery through rom manager and now my Evo gets stuck at the white boot screen whenever I try to go into recovery.. if i'm just booting regularly then it works fine...

I would try reflashing the recovery. Actually, I suggest using Amon Ra recovery. You can use ROM manager to do that if you'd like, select 'flash alternate recovery' It sounds like something went wrong during the recovery flash. Good luck.

reflashed to an earlier version of clockwork and it works now
Why do you suggest amon ra recovery instead? whats the difference?

I guess it's really just user preference actually. Some people swear by clockwork, others by Amon. The main reason I started using Amon Ra, is because when I first rooted and was using clockwork, I kept getting bootloops when trying to flash any ROM. I changed recoveries to Amon Ra and never looked back. I have been able to flash everything I've wanted, and can get to recovery every time I try. Also, Amon Ra backs up your wimax RSA keys. I know some versions of clockwork do now (not sure which one) but clockwork used to not be capable of backing up the RSA keys, so that was another reason I initially started using Amon, and I just always have since then. It seems like any time someone is having trouble flashing something, they are using clockwork, then they report that changing to Amon fixed the problem. It's just mroe reliable in my opinion. But as I said, its user preference, and I'm sure clockwork works flawlessly for a lot of people. To each their own!
so i went to update my radio combo and went to down grade clockwork but when i booted to recovery i was still on 3.0.0.5, tired to flash amon ra from rom manger no luck
flashed ra recovery with a .img file in bootloader and updated
now im trying to flash back to clockwork so i can access my backup of sense and update my prl
has any one ran into this problem with rom manager
could i transfer my backups over to ra recovery?
Flash Clockwork the same way you flashed AR. It's fairly common for Rom Manager to not flash the recovery.img correctly - or whatever the problem may be. Download a PC36IMG of ClockworkMod, put it on the root of your SD card. If you already have one of Amon Ra, rename or delete it. Boot into the bootloader, accept the update when prompted, then go into recovery and restore your backup. You cannot restore Clockwork backups with Amon Ra, nor the other way around. If you really want to use Amon Ra, you can flash CWM, restore your backup, flash Amon Ra, make a backup, then delete your Clockwork backups and solely use Amon Ra.
I believe this is the latest version of ClockworkMod. PC36IMG here: http://db.tt/9sksyTK
1, stop using ROM Manager, and 2, stop using clockwork and you'll be fine....
Amon ra all the way man. I switched from rom manager/clockwork no problems.
I had your same issues with ROM manager. ROM manager and CWM really just have a bunch of mess-ups; get Amon Ra, works every time.
I have Rom Manager installed on my device. I like to make backups in both ClockworkMod and AmonRA, but since I loaded CM7 (2.3.3 and 2.3.4) I can't flash between recoveries. My RM says my current recovery is CWM3005, but when I boot in recovery its RA! When I try to flash CWM, it says it is successfully flashed, but it is not! Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm having the same issue. I switched to Amon Ra just to give it a shot and now I can't go back. On a related note, is it possible to restore a backup made with clockwork in Amon Ra (or vice versa)?
First off, Rom Manager is junk. Sorry, but it is.
Second, use Amon Ra, really. That's all you need.
Hipkat, thanks for your helpful post.
z3r0d3vil, I did some digging, andit looks like the only way to fix this issue is to reflash CWM through the hboot. I had trouble finding a good explanation how on xda, but here's a link from android forums.
Regarding Amon RA, my problem was that I wanted to restore a backup made with CWM and couldn't do so without going back to CWM. Now that I can flash through the hboot, I was able to restore the CWM backup and then back it up through Amon. I've since switched to Amon as my primary recovery. Hope this helps!
On second thought, xda won't let me post a URL because I haven't made enough posts. If you still need it, message me and I'll give it to you.
Hi guys every time i try to nandroid or back up threw rom manager i get "Error finding an appropriate backup handler" and "Unable to find mounted volume: /sdcard". i looked threw numorious forums on xda and other forums i dont know how to fix this problem i completely formatted my Sd card and wiped my phone i cant backup any roms for some reason. Are you able to nandroid through cwm recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Nope i cant i dont even know how this problem came along i was using a stock root then i decided to install CM 10 and when i tried to back it up i started getting this problem :l and i dont know how to return to stock i downloaded that SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT would that program be able to return me to stock unrooted.
Can someone point me to a link that will help me go back to stock unrooted. Like the phone was straight out of the box?????/
You should do your backup directly in CWM and not ROM manager. Go to backup then back up in internal storage. I'm on touch 5.8.4.5 and back up directly in CWM then rename manually in Rom Manager. Just download a stock rooted ROM and flash it in CWM. Can you mount sd card in CWM? Just download a ROM then mount sd card and copy then flash after will ng data and formatting system and wiping caches. I would personally Odin back to a stock ROM, its easier.

It should of unrooted you. Try down adding Titanium backup or a app that requires root and check if you don't have root.

Try to back up to your internal sd card instead after that error message by using the backup and restore menu in recovery mode. That happens to me when i try to use the ROM manager backup method because my ext sd card is full

You can have custom recovery and not have root. Go to your app drawer and if SU or superuser is not there then you are not rooted.
Okay so i flashed stock recovery via oden then i flashed the stock rom .tar file via oden. then after my phone was back to stock i re-rooted it and flashed cwm my phone is no longer getting that message but it still isnt backing up to the sd card ??? can someone plz help me

If cwm is giving you a hard time try twrp. That's another alternative recovery we have. Maybe that will do the trick.

Am I doing something wrong? This is massive.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
That are parts of your nandroid backups.
This is all the data and info that you've backed up using Clockworkmod recovery. This is one of 6.0.1 "update". Apparently, this will save you some storage when you backup up multiple ROMs. Don't delete it, or the restoring would not be successful. If you want to delete a backup, either delete using file explorer or ROM manager. Then you reboot to recovery. Then the recovery will delete certain portion of the data in blob file that matches the deleted backup.
personally don't like it, so I use TWRP
Hope this answered your question
Will convert to twrp. Thanks. Just didn't know if that massive file size was normal.

I didn't force you to convert to TWRP by any means... If you like CWM, just use older version. Also that is normal
Another thing I should mention, TWRP cannot restore CWM backups and vice-versa.

Well I don't have CWM anymore, so didn't know that
Nobody forced me into anything. I've been thinking about switching to twrp for a while now anyway. I prefer their UI to CWM. I've just used CWM since my days with my Droid Inc and EVO. TWRP was incredibly easy to convert to and I am currently making twrp back ups on both my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 7. I didn't have any old back ups that I couldn't live without in CWM. Now when I get rid of the CWM I can just delete the blobs folder and get that 11 gb back right? Plus I'm looking forward to using my USB OTG to store my backups. They have always been the one thing that has dominated my storage.

If you have backups for TWRP. CWM folder is not necessary. Just bare in mind that this folder includes all your CWM backups.
