i have never heard about that and i can't believe it either! so give me a source or i will call it bull****...
ok im south american, but haven't seen any ads about the galaxy s... still i got an european version
galaxy s with digital tv
In this video in the middle you see the digital tv
www youtube com watch?v=T3fBdO4_qXw
this would require a dvb-t or dvb-h tuner plus antenna, so i dont think flashing this firmware would help anything.
Samsung should have aplied that tuner to every phone, i will not watch TV at the cellphone, but is frustrating that i bought mine already.
it will have a SBTVD (also called ISDB-T) receiver, as is said here: http://blog.jaldomir.com.br/noticias/260-samsung-galaxy-s-finalmente-entre-nos
There is a multiformat decoder on the market, but its from Analog Devices. I doubt that Samsung uses this third party chipset but will use its own as they are specialized in ISDB-T. So i guess this handset will not decode DVB-H and will only be usable in South America and the Philippines.
I also guess they do this because TV usage is much higher in e.g. Brasil than anywhere in Europe. DVB-H was launched to much fanfare a couple of years ago but nobody uses it. Does any newly released handset have it any more? Some carriers offer streaming TV programs over their data network but there is just no demand for it.
Check Brazilian Gizmodo blog version.
It is true . Galaxy S at Brazil + digital tv .
Isn't this the most amazing phone series we've ever seen?
It's a pity that we don't have an equivalent model here in Europe - It would be awesome to watch TV everywhere (even if I had to pay extra 100Eur) - it would really be a ALL-IN-ONE device.

I bought mine at Amazon for U$ 588,00 and won´t buy another version here in Brazil either.
Is there something special with brazilian firmware, such as Brazilian language instead of Portugal language ? I´m using English, because Portugal language has some bad translation.
Which is the latest firmware for the I9000XXJF3 version ?
Why samsung did not add tv tuner to all I9000 models ? would be awesome to watch tv with phone while being on train etc
Puta madre!
Yoz
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it up to the cell providers to choose which features will be on the device? Like Sprint maybe paying extra for the epic features and such, and ?
Is it a matter of just adding an antenna and changing the firmware or need any additional hardware ?
lame....
why do we get the lamest version of the phone....

it has been out for a loooong time, there is another device similar to the Beam was on July, the other one was on March
both are for Europe market
they don't seem to be very popular
they are from the 8000 family, although the spec are very close to the Galaxy S 9000 family

Few weeks back I came across a review of this phone on youtube. Even though it was announced early this year (and GSM arena says its already available), I didn't find any information indicating that this phone is actually available on the market. I was looking for it's price.

good idea
Just bought mine a week ago from StarHub (the official retailer for galaxy beam).
I second the subforum idea. How about starting a google group as well since the community is so small.
For those who wish to purchase the phone:
You need to place a reservation at StarHub Center before making the purchase. It takes about a week before your phone is ready for collection.
I was lucky enough to get it immediately because someone cancelled his reservation.
waiting for mine, deseperatly ....
i'll check with Admins and Sr Mods to see if they want to create a new forum for it
That's great! Thanks man.
nocomp: you may try bugging their hq at cuppage road. They might just have an extra handset lying around like mine. Haha
i ve bought it from a local shop in singapore, they were agree to send it to me to france.
still waiting for the delivery...... the singapore post tracking service, isn t much alive since 2 days......
i guess that ll be a change from my nexus, what i am pissed of, is that you can t use an app that use camera and projector in the same time
it seems that what has to be done, (part of find a way to upgrade it to froyo):
get gps working when projector is on
get projector working when camera is on
can you tell me if the galaxy beam has also the tv out like galaxy s?
best regards
herve
I have some bad news for you. Samsung has officially stopped software support for that device last month and said there's no plans for official froyo for it as there's just not enough beams out there to warrent the support as it was only sold in Singapore and very small numbers. They now have all development on tablet and galaxy s models. Google for more info. I read that last month someplace

hi
thxx a lot, that news has been goin on here and there fr a while, surely some ppl can adapt 2.2 to the beam model.
i finally received mine )))
bad news, impossible to install an application from android market :'(
never happend before with the nexus, i get the message "unable to download" either i am in wifi or 3g
any idea why?
herve
Hmm never had a problem with market. Have you tried replacing the stock market app with a generic one from ipmart? Perhaps it's locked down to Singapore or something.
Topic moved to General until and if a new proper forum comes into place for this device.
hi,
well i ve took sim card off n sdcard off, and then it was working over wifi.
put the simcard back again and market was working.
no idea wtf happend.
hi,
how can i know what software update is current?
my version is 2.1 update 1
I8520DXJ11
kernel 2.6.29-zeus1
can t find in the setting menu the update section
thx for your help
btw i ve found this, anybody tried it?
http://shomblingteam.blogspot.com/2010/08/samsung-i8520-galaxy-beam.html
My phone is running the same firmware version as yours. It's released on 1 Sept which is more recent than the July version on that blog.
hi,
thx for the news, so if there is an update it ll appear in the "about" section right?
do you know any trick/tweak for allow to run gps when using projector?
herve
Probably, but I doubt there will be any more updates since the beam is not getting froyo. Hopefully I'm wrong...
I'm not aware of any tricks but if you have the time and expertise try editing the source code? Haha I'm no expert either.
I will get my lovely Ray on Monday, so, is there a forum for Xperia Ray?

I can only find the ray on one asian reseller, 1shopmobile, and I have heard people had problems with them. Are there any legit dealers selling it yet, or should I just wait until the UK gets it in stock?
Ray is also out in Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia and others exUSSR.

you should be able to get them from expansys.
Well, got the ray and its nice and small. Perfect fit for one hand, and its not annoyingly big in the pocket.
Just have to wait for some root and roms to make it even better
quality is a let down, out of 4 units, all have dead/bright pixels problem.
I wonder if the ray development works that come out will be compatible with the arc/neo/pro/play and vise versa. I think I will be satisfied with my ray, but the 2011 mini also looks like it would be good as well.
RAY is not bad,even perfect
palm-sized , 3.3' very nice clear TFT ...............
we all need a brand new forum for ray , st18i
Out here in Sweden too. So a forum would be a nice gift from xda.
i'm sure the mods will start a section on the st18i, with all the new phones coming out, i think we'll just have to give more time.

Just bought an XPERIA ray in Hongkong. Looking forward to the new forum being set up
xperia ray, one of the best selling phones in hong kong.
after a few exchange, finally got a good decent one.
Nice!
Well got mine yesterday and sofar I'm really impressed, although the x10 mini pro maybe not the best comparison but still. Only thing sofar is the camera that cannot take pics in 8mp, only in 4:3

interesting thing about samsung is that is does not stick to its word.
when samsung oficially announced the details of bada 2.0 they included the wifi direct feature in the details.
But as always samsung is not sticking to their on words....!NO WIFI DIRECT ON official release of bada 2.0 for wave 1&2
But after hanging a bit around I got a option of WifiDirect in internal menu
*#7092463*# > module setting > WiFI Direct
But nothing opens further when clicked on this option.
I think some thing has to be enabaled in the firmware file first then hang around this option.

Maybe they forgot to list it
But listing is not the point or certification for that matter
point is that wifi-direct is only a set of protocol(Software not any special hardware) as written in their official site
That means they can update wave 1,2 with only software to get Wifi-Direct on them
Certification Means Fees
And i hope that Samsung is willing to pay for the fees.
As an example the actual cost of the hdmi hardware connection used in tvs, graphics cards, laptops etc is only 2 to 3 USD but the hdmi license is an astonishing 30 to 50 USD for small production volume items.
No wonder the HD capable Xiami M1 phone did not include HDMI since Xiaomi was not willing to pay for the HDMI license which is prohibitively high if you dont plan to license in very large volumes.
Now since Wifi Direct is not actually owned by samsung they have to pay fees for the certification even if its just a software mod.
The question is, Is Samsung willing to pay for the certification for older almost out of production phones?
Hope that samsung wont be a tightwad.
samsung won't look.back at wave 1&2.
everything now depends on devs
Again i am wrong :S
GT-S7250 is Wave M
Wave 3 is not registered as a wifi-direct device too !
Best Regards
Yes but the wave 3 is indicated as the 7250
The wave 3 does have wifi direct only that its certificate identifies it as a 7250
here is my crazy guess
All the three new bada 2.0 devices got wifi-direct support but Samsung don't want to pay fees for all the three devices
So they named devices project name as GT-S7250 and certified the project itself
Yea i know it seems a little bit illegal but this is only explanation i have

First off - Great to see you here - Noticed you had created a Tab S4 TWRP
Second - I agree with you. But if you are over here in the UK - CPW and O2 barely have any stock of these... Ive seen a couple of stores sell demo units in some capacities. Back in 2012 - When Comet went under - They were selling Demo units real cheap for IPADs etc because of administration.
If the user has picked up a demo unit lawfully (Notice how i say that ) Then it could be that a store was going to stock the device but due to delays in procuring etc (CPW had issues and pushed back release from Samsung by WEEKS!) they no longer plan to stock it.
Either way there are numerous reasons why they have a demo unit. Some legal some not so much... But either way while we dont know the full circumstances... We can assist if need be.
If the OP has stolen / obtained unlawfully then there is very little that can be done apart from to block the IMEI.
I wonder if the OP would like to tell us how he acquired said device,...

See that's the issue. These devices are not supposed to be released to the public, but destroyed.
I agree there are instances where demo devices end up in public hands, but not usually brand new recently released devices.
FRP is meant to protect unlawfully 'acquired' devices from being accessed and we get a lot of posts regarding that also.
I'd gladly assist anyone with a legitimate issue, but I feel uneasy with this sort of thing without actual proof of 'aquirement' especially considering posts related to unlawful practices are not allowed on XDA.
I'm not pointing fingers here, just voicing concern.
Thats very true with FRP. What should also be kept in mind here.
Samsung's retail mode is very different to the Retail Mode built into Developers Options.
Thing is - If the user does as my advice. Very quickly we will know if there is an issue with the device. It will ask for the original Google Account Assigned to the device ^_^
Lets see what happens
I removed retail software and flash new one and everything is working fine now... It was also some issues with charging but now everything is great. Like this forum!
Sorry for the inconvenience, but the guy sold me and I don't have idea how he got it... In my country there is no possibility to get it so soon after official release.
Can you share solution please
When I try to flash it says no flash interface found
I'd love to get a copy of the DeX switcher app that's included with the real Retail Mode.
