Excalibur in 96 DPI: Finally A Semi-Working Solution (Testing Purposes Only)

Hello Guys,
Finally, we have an almost working solution. A member has posted a .cab that changes your DPI from 131 to 96 DPI.
It works ! I have personally tested it myself. However, it still needs work done.
This looks great but it still needs some minor work done. If I do come across any solutions, I will keep you guys posted. If you guys come across anything, please post here so we can figure this one out.
Setup Instructions:
1) Run the WM6.1-131to96dpi.CAB file
2) when it asks for you to restart, do not restart.
3) Click Start, Accessories and run Command Processor, and click the "..." button.
4) Go to Menu, Browse Folder, and select the folder where you put the dpi.ccs file.
5) Now you will see the dpi file, and then go ahead and run it.
6) Wait for it go back to the homescreen and then reboot your phone.
Uninstall Instructions:
1) Start > Settings > Remove Programs
2) Select .CAB (131 to 96 dpi)
3) Click Remove Program

Issues:
1) Programs in storage card - do not run OR files are missing
2) Rinku's Iconbar is slightly cut off from the bottom
3) Smart tool kits "start" button is misaligned
4) Wallpaper is slightly cut off from the bottom
5) NRG Miniweather - Date & Day are not properly aligned either
6) Pocket Nester Plus not working (maybe due to ROMs stored on storage card)
ATTENTION: PROGRAMS ON SD CARD ARE NOT WORKING, NOR ARE MY IMAGES FOR MYFAVES SHOWING UP. HOWEVER, STORAGE CARD SEEMS TO WORK.I UNINSTALLED IT AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE.
I am posting screenshots for you guys and I have attached the .zip (which includes .cab and dpi.ccs) for you to download. The experts out there, use this as foundation and see if you can fix it for our phones.

try to delete lcd.ttf and plumsip5.dll from your windows folder
if it still have problem, i may ask the guy who make this cab

i can sure this is safe and uninstallable...have a try, if u don't like it...just uninstall it...from your setting menu

aiight it works fine...if u have LCD installed and use medium or larger format in Opera it won't look right. and yea...other than that...seems to be working fine...another note.
dpi.css.zip has to be renamed to dpi.css and then in CeleCMD you have to make it so it can see all files then u can run dpi.css...at least that is what i did. and all works fine.
edit: Or that.

works great...few issues...the messaging icons are a bit messed up...in celetask the 'reboot, shutdown, etc' icons are a bit messed up...hmmm...picture viewer is acting funny....and i cant access folders on my storage card just the storage card itself.

What's the purpose of lowering the dpi?

I have fixed the dpi file by renaming dpi.css to dpi.ccs as well as unzipped it into the ZIP folder in first post. Thank you pudge for the instructions
Now you can follow the instructions and it should work as shown but there are still some minor issues except one being major that is SD programs are not working. I don't know how to fix this. If anyone comes across any fixes, please post here.

I was going to install it earlier today but i was getting a corrupt message from the dpi.css; Im glad you updated it very quickly.
If anyone is running Rickywatts vanilla ROM, you can find the command processor in "My Tools". Just a heads up.

First of all, thanks to all the developers and researchers responsible for making this happen.
Second, I'm getting the following error when I try to Install the cab (I open the cab, the progress bar goes all the way 'till its end the this is displayed):
"Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions".
Is anybody else getting the same error and/or knows what should I do to get past it? I really want to try this...
BTW, my excalibur is app unlocked already (surreal networks app used).

I really like the way this looks, but is there anything i can do to make the text a bit bigger?

Would someone mind posting a few reasons why this mod is desired?

Although i personally wouldn't recommend installing this at the moment ( issues with the storage card and alignment issues)
basically this works similarly to increasing your screen resolution on your PC.(minus the actual resolution changing) meaning it fits more stuff on your devices display since it shrinks down what is placed on your screen.

Sorry, that post wasn't directed at you.
The only benefit I can see from this is what pudgedaddy said. By lowering the dpi, you are able to fit more things onto the screen and i guess it looks cleaner. Like that of a pc. I hope that answers your question.

man - great find. this would be so awesome if we can get the storage card isue working. the extra screen real estate is great for contacts, texts, damn near everything.

I'm willing to test it, but i can´t get around the problem i posted before:

I've already checked my phone's registry for any lock on the policies, but it's effectively unlocked, and other cabs/apps signed and unsigned install without any problem... BTW, I'm using Ricky's wm6.1 v23 ROM...
Can someone give me some help on this? I'd really appreciate it!

INSTALL
- Unrar the concept wvga file to your desktop.
- You'll see 1 map and 1 wadesktop file.
- Inside the theme-folder you'll find the following folders: weather big and weather small.
- Copy these 2 folders onto your phone (It doesn't matter where, since you can assign these by going to your settings in WAD2)
- Install concept.wadesktop as you usally do with wad2 themes.

Heh no problem, thought you didn't mind. I also mirrored it as most people don't really like the rapidshare links, you could add the mirror to your original post aswell if you want. Yeah I read that in the original post, really waited a long time for the WVGA version of the concept theme as it just looks awesome. Flashing my device now to a very stripped ROM and gonna install it. , how are interface transitions and such at the moment?

Everything is pretty responsive. Although not as fast as the original for the omnia...but still fast enough for me.
However when going from the lock screen to the home screen, wad 2 might not respond for like 1 or 2 seconds (dnno why )
So please have a bit patience so you won't be tapping around your screen (and so opening apps or tabs you don't want to open )

Alright great. Well the looks alone will make it worthwhile . Currently at hard-resetting my device and then I'll get to installing the tens of cabs that I have x.x.
Whats the res for the Manga and FMRadio pictures btw? Want to put something else there.

Okay... I just got out of bed to say this... this is officialy the most AWESOME theme I ever used. I get completely smooth transitions so it might just be your HD or rom you have (have the stock rom?). It's just superb, now I'm off to bed again to map all the buttons to the correct programs but really... this is just insane, I'm speechless. It's beautifull!

Can someone please direct me how to install this theme for WAD2? For some reason it is not showing up in my themes when I go into WAD. It's been a while since I've used this application, but after seeing this theme I'm dying to give it a try!

Go to the .wadesktop file and run it, this will install the theme, then when you go back to the themes page scan for themes and it should show up.

I same this theme....only one word for it: awesome. But i have never used wad before. I already purshaded it and i installed the theme, but when i tap something i get: error loading shortcut or lacating the target filename. This happens when i play music, try to open manga, open callender and probebly even more.
An other question: how can i change some things? since i also dont use manga or fm radio. What i understood so far is that i should change the picture and create a shortcut to the right application????? Would be really nice if someone could explain to a newby

i see in your youtube movie that you have the big weather icons to show the weather when you tap the on the little weather pad. how did you get that to work? im trying different things with mapping pictures etc. but no luck, any pointers? thnx

Did you copy the 2 folders onto your phone named, weather big and weather small? If you did, go into your settings in WAD2 and under the icons tab you can browse to where you put those files for both large icons and the small icons.

You are getting the error because you need to assign your own apps to the links. You can do this by holding your finger (or stylus) down until you get a drop down menu. On this menu chose "Author Mode".
Once you're in author mode, be careful because it is very easy to mess up the position of the pictures and text. You can move everything around when you're in author mode. I would advise taping and holding down again to bring the drop down menu up so you can chose the "Lock Items" option.
So now you can tap and hold on a link you would like to change and go into the properties of the link. Then go to the "Script" tab. You can change what program is launched here by choosing your own app.
Once you've played with WAD for a while you'll get the hang of it. It is extremely customizable so have some fun with it....as you can see with this beautiful theme!

The customization is overwhelming... it's driving me a bit nuts. But that's a good thing.
For some reason for me the weather forecast thing doesn't work at all, the dock doesn't show up. There's no script to bring it up. So I added the script myself to show page_forcast, but it just shows numbers and no images, even though I already specified the weather big/small in the options, I copied the weather big/small folders both to mem stick and phone mem and tried both locations in options, both don't work. Any help?
p.s. what's with all the extra folders included in the theme folder? are you supposed to do anything with them?
EDIT: Nvm I re-installed it all and it works great now... customability is crazy, you and pretty much make any GUI possible. Only dream now is to make phone faster overall, but for that HTC needs to use better touch screens and hardware.

I know you can assign WMP, what results in opening WMP.
But i want to use the Music pic as a mp3 player.
i want the mp3 number in this red cirlce........so i can use the play forward keys!
What are the options for this. Plz help

same here...i have customized the whole theme to my needs...but am unable to get mp3 player running...
this is what i do...
1. i first click on the power sort of an icon (right end) to start wmpcontrol...it says use one of the following parameters...volup,down,next or prev
2. then i click on next or previous and then i get this error:
the file 'wmpcontrol.exe cannot be opened ..either its not signed with trusted cert or one of its components cant be found'
pls help me....once i get this mp3 player running...i wud succeed in having a complete theme...
also, pls someone let me know which is the executable to get allprograms list show up

HTC Quietly Brilliant - Start Up WVGA CAB

The files for this Animation was providet by [ElCondor]
So what i did.. because at first i don`t like the Backround colour i modify the backround frames and make them full black and full white without any shadows also clear some pixels and make the animation faster and under 100kb
The final result is really cool looking animation, fast and smooth i think to make diferent colours and styles when i have more time.
Also here is Sound from the Windows 7 Start up but because in diferent ROMs sometimes the Start up sound is with diferent name i will post the sound separate and if anyone like it can just rename and copy in the Windows Folder.
I Already test it few times on my HD and the result is Amazing.

Yes of course what kind of colour you need? i mean i can do it diferent colour if u want

Let this be clear: I just call this stealing. It took hours to make it, he grabbed it, enhanced it a bit (will be about 2 minutes to do) and uploaded it without asking anything...

Completely different? Just do a compare between these and the ones attached on my thread, nearly exactly the same. Fact remains that you are using the complete animation I made which took more than 3 hours.

This is NOT True.. From how long time you have this POST???? and When Clear the Animation and also don`t forget that i Upload the Files Now you have the same files.. OF COURSE you will say you made them.. then how u pretend that my Files are the same with your files when i Upload the Clear Animation 1st? and When you pretend you know almost everything and this is a job for 2 minutes WHY you don`t do it by yourself for 2 minutes and all will be happy me too and i will not do it by myself will just Download yours.
Because it takes 2 minutes to do it for ONE resolution. I have to make it for 4, and also the white ones. And I do not need to update it so many times because it's simply a waste of time.

So everything was fine untill i upload the Animation.. witch mean when the peoples don`t have what to compare of course will not know with for sure do this is Good or its BAD..
But when this person who download the Faster Animation he saw the diference and now there have a problem because NOW he can see that this Animation is better.
you haven't explained me anything, I know how to modify every frame with photoshop but I was just wondering how to change it when you don't have the PSd file. I am not a noob, otherwise I coul have not been able to make this animation - which obviously many people like, downloaded more than 4000 times.

Many Peoples Like with SURE 4000 Downloads but they don`t have what to compare so don`t tell me right now that the Peoples LOVE Grey PIXELS animation than FULL BLACK.

The fact of the matter is you are both posting modifications of material that has been copyrighted by other people (HTC and Microsoft). Neither of you could claim any kind of ownership over the images over which you are now squabbling.
Additionally, this is a forum where members post their work, making it public and while it is polite to provide credits/attribution (see my threads as an example), once you have posted something you have no control over how other members use it. If you have posted original material that is subject to copyright and/or a creative commons licence, and if you are earning enough, you can ask your lawyer to ask them to remove any material that might be "stolen". In this case, neither of you can steal something from the other when you have both in fact stolen the material from somebody else (as per first sentence above).
Finally, nobody wants to read your ridiculous arguement with each other so I suggest you continue via PM if at all.

Here's my opinion:
This situation seems to be similar to when someone "skins" a work originally created by another. From what I've seen on here, the person who enhanced the original work usually makes it clear that their work is only an ENHANCEMENT or MODIFICATION and includes a link to the original creator.
So I think it's only fair that tsalta edits his first post to make it more clear that his work is a modification and post a link to ElCondor's original post, which is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587867.
My opinion is only based on your exchanges and original threads...I have no idea what ElCondor had to do to create his work and what tsalta had to do to create his work, so my opinion could be wrong. I hope you guys can work it out.
EDIT: looks like andrew posted clearer information about these works while I was typing...

I Aree with you too and this is what im saying. The reason to don`t write that he made the Files is very simple because he really didn`t make the files that are uploaded here on this post.
Also i dont have any problem at all so like i say i made it for myself and then decide that i can share with other peoples who like it.
Anyway we are not kids here and i really think this is more than stupid for this Reason... The Moderators to remove this Thread and all to be fine.
All i want is to make better animaton like you can see i don`t win anything from this only headache and crazy conversation....

just a little bit explanation about the first idea & work from elcondor in your thread to skin htc stuff would be nice to him but guys ,i have the same thing in the past,just stop it and come back on topic,give the credits to elcondor and thanks for the work you also made,the best thing is to work togheter and not to fight on the same work

YES i want and mean the same i never pretend anything im just saying the facts so He Made the files and i saw it from him but i make them better and also i tell him about this and explain to him how to do it etc and he say Its Super he will edit the other files too and all was fine until the other day when he come and start to write in this Thread like i STOLE something...
Like andrew-in-woking we Both Stole something and here the 80% are stolen things if we think like this because we use corporate Logos and etc without official permission.
Also in this case we Are Both Right because The GIF Animation is Animation made from alot Images frame by frame.. so He made the Animation Its True but Its True also that This Animation is diferent from his because all 64 Frames are Edited not only one Image and on the final we Both are RIGHT and when all the Frames are diferent this is complate diferent animaton but i never pretend i do it by myself like everyone can see i write in the 1st post that He Provide the Files for that Animation and i write What exactly i to.. modify clear faster and thats it. I downloaded the Android Cab file on TIlt 2, n luvn it

I wish all the customs roms that chefs cook up were this easy to do. I was reading on the forum last night about this and came across the cab file version of this install. Its soo easy its pathetic. by the way i have Att Tilt 2 stock rom windows.v.72001a(or somethin) windows mobile 6.5 manilla v.2.1. doing this install made me realize two things. How fast att actually can be at times. this was basically a 90mb. file. I downloaded it with opera mobile 10 on regular service in like 5 mins. Thats pretty fast to me for a phone. i can just imagine if i used opera mini but mini doesnt let store files downloaded to your storage card. which is still cool because cut and paste puts it wherever u want. Second thing i noticed is how much more Informative this forum is. That google android cab is a brilliant piece of work. i dont know how they exactly did it but it works pretty damn good to be not the final version yet. i was skeptical doing this type of modding, since it is complex and looks like your rom being reflashed or something..lol i was like ohhh lord, what i do now..lol but to much surprise, just like the instructions say, it loaded flawlessy, basically. Knowing me, i tried testing all the capabilities of it seeing how far itll let me go. I like the android set up and interface. There are still some things i noticed wasnt working yet. like the wifi. or the keyboard light doesnt come on. it still works though. i havent tried the bluetooth yet. i didnt like that my programs didnt carry over but no biggie since i guess its another format or something the phone is running. Its really cool how the install kicks windows or liniux off and boots up this android rom or whatever. they say its not an emulator or a full blown rom. seems like one to me by how good it works. Also the g sensor needs better way to calibrate. it doesnt rotate really like it should or not fast enough. When u on this though, u are limited to whats on this install. Meaning only using the programs that come on it. Knowing me, i tried going to the app store to see if itll let me download some prgrams. i got all the way to the end pressing download and an error came up on the screen. Maybe its not set up yet in this version to let u add android programs and stuff. which wouldve been insane. But hey, this is free. I definitely have to say how talented the people are that put this together. This is just like running any program really. and when i want go back to windows mobile or touch flo, just soft reset and bam, u back no problems. the first time installing is the longest, not too long though. any time after that, it boots up faster since all folders and whateva were already made. So after soft rest, i can just load it up anytime with the Haret icon just like i would load up Opera Mini. Thats just too cool. Ima fool my friends telling them i got new AnDroid Phone from HTC to mess wit their heads. Im definitely gonna read up alot more on these threads and see if any way to load or download android programs. i wanted the free opera mini 5 one so badly but error came up. force out or something. all in all, Im really liking the setup and the widgets. plus u can change backgrounds with preloaded ones, which seem high quality. just as clear as on tf3d with hdwalls. Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to rant and let any skeptical people with Tilt 2 like mines know this is One Install You definitely want to check out. I still have to test somemore on how far the capabilities go when in android mode. Ill keep ya posted.

i too am running the htc tilt2 and am rather new to all of this. so it was great to share your experience and concern. so with this android rom you saw that some things are not working. will you let me know when they get all the kinks worked out? please. i am interested. i have my phone dialed in the way i want it now with all that i have learned here, so i dont want to put anything on that doesnt have all the funtionality. so please if you remember hit me back when it is 110percent. thanks!

Doing this install/mod still enables you to use windows. you can now choose which Operating system. if u tired of windows and want to mess around with Android os, then this enables you to. this is still in developement so of course not every single function wrking. its good enough for now. i can make calls, recieve them, go online, go to android app store and download new android programs. I see what you are saying on not wanting to mess up your phone. the install cant get no easier than for this one. basically a new os/ROM without having to flash device. All i do is press Haret exe., like any other program, and it boots XDAndroid up everytime. im still amazed on having it. soon after enough reading and research, i might flash a rom or 2..lol All info needed is right here in the forum. ill keep ya posted, but this is a working version that u can text and make calls, etc...im glad i downloaded it.

Huh? Guess I'll have to try it on my RAPH110 to see if that is the device you are talking about. Not sure what you mean by "not fully rooted" as if it wasn't fully rooted, I wouldn't be able to install half of the apps/programs I have on there...
At best, it might be a device compatibility issue but this XDAndroid not fully rooted deal is hogwash to me(IMO).

Don't just say stuff like that unless you know for a fact that is the problem. It makes your problem less likely to be solved by the devs that work on the project and possibly from others that would otherwise be willing to help. And if you don't care one way or the other, why post about it?

FRX06 is most certainly 'rooted'. Titanium Backup wouldn't work otherwise...
I looked at that app, and I don't think we can use that app. You can remap buttons in the rootfs, which native Android devices do not have...

Yea, you'd have to make your own keymap basically. It's doable, read thru F22's rootfs thread - there's tips on how it all works. Bust open the rootfs by bind mounting it on a Linux box and see what's inside. I believe the kl files are the ones you'll need to modify, just make your own and reference it in the startup.txt.

Sorry, your situation is pretty unique. Perhaps there's something simple missing why it can't remap buttons on the fly, but I'm not aware of what. I would look into it deeper, but again - because of your unique situation I don't think it would really be worth it.

Just installed it in Gingerbread (alpha) and it FC'd when I attempted to run it but haven't had a desire to downgrade to FRX06 yet...
I might consider it later when I actually have the time...
