I am OMJ's Rom on my EVO rooted with toasts method plus the radio update and the led's under the front buttons are not working. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an app that controls them that was removed?
The lights will be off when the phone is plugged in and charging.
When exactly are the lights under the four soft buttons supposed to be on?
On my EVO (novatec 003, stock) I have noticed an inconstancy in when they light up. Sometimes they light up when I unlock my phone, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they turn on later, sometimes they don't turn on at all.
This doesn't seem normal to me. What are other's experience with this?
Thanks
they are controled with the light sensor and should be on in low light situations and off in bright lights. you can test this by covering the light sensor to the right of the HTC logo on top of the device.
Thank you @peepeesea that was it exactly. Which is more hi-tech that I gave them credit for.
Also as a side note, since I've been reading the xda forums I feel like a phone hypochondriac. Everythings broken!!
I've started using my phone for watching movies at night. The soft key backlight is blinding me!
I've looked around for information on this problem and the closest solution I've found is the LED hack on the app market. The problem is, it requires root. Has anyone found a different way around this issue? Would temp-root work?
I used leds hack on my dinc for a good while till I had to replace my screen. Once I took the phone apart, I unplugged the leds from the bottom. If you're ok with voiding your warranty, go for it.
But I don't think it'll be possible without perm root.

Keep a roll wherever you watch the movies...
Try changing the angle of the device slightly, if you can. I've noticed the backlighting on the softkeys aren't consistent and for them to be at their brightest, they have to be facing directly at you.
There is a free app in market called screen filter. it will allow you to toggle your backlit keys.

I just found this thread, looking for a solution.
Neither Screen filter, nor LED hacks work on my rooted Dinc2, and the backlight for the softkeys is always on, even when I put the clock into night mode. Is it supposed to be this way, or are they designed to turn off in certain situations?

I'm running the Virtuous Unity 2.3.5 Rom, and it has a glitch in it that I can live with.
The soft key lights don't work at all. I've gotten so used to it, I hope that when they find out what the problem is, they turn it into a on/off function instead of removing the glitch.

EDIT:
that is, if you want them to work.
I have a Touch Pro2 Vodafone, but unlocked, and flashed with custom 6.5 ROM and it continually has the problem of the screen going blank and not coming to life.
I have tried Energy Rhodium 29022 and another ROM but both have the problem.
I guess it might be a hardware fault, but not sure really.
Any suggestions for fixing?
task29?
Does it "always" go to the blank screen, or is it intermittent?
Also, when you say going blank and not coming back to life - does this mean when the phone is rebooting? When it's off and being turned on? What are you doing that induces this behavior? Has the phone always done this? Have you tried the stock ROM?
You could also try remapping one of your buttons as a 'Power Management' button using the keyboard configuration to see if your power button is at fault. If all else fails, try flashing the shipped Rom to see if the problem continues. Good Luck!!
Sounds like a failed light sensor. Somewhere there was an app you could install that would display the sensor reading. If it was 0 then you had a bad sensor.

I know of such a thing for Android, but does one exist for WinMo?

I want to say that there was. It wasn't the primary function of the app, but info you could get from it. It has been more than 6mo since I was fooling around with WM on the TP2.
I ran task29 before
Have tried three roms
Problem occurs e.g., today, blank screen, cannot activate, remove battery, try to turn on, get the buzzing sound which means it's turning on but still blank.
Press buttons, oops looks like I'm calling someone.
Phone still blank. Then get incoming call - it wakes up.
This happens regularly, blank and cannot wake up.
Usually charging it wakes it up.
Flash back to stock, if it's still occurring there it's probably a hardware issue. As was stated earlier, the proxy sensor is suspect for sure.

That really sounds like a bad sensor.
And the advantage to that is, if it is a bad sensor, you could always perform some surgery on your device and install a new screen & digitiser as I did on mine. I had a problem with a slightly rattly earpiece afterwards but I think it was something I did. Handily I was able to purchase a pre-built screen and digitiser as a single unit complete with ribbon cables, I just had to swap it out and reattach the various ribbon cables. Proximity sensor and LDR are all in the one unit above the screen... Which is quite useful as they're all tiny surface mounted components
If you don't want to invest money, and like android I think that FRX07.1 does not use the sensor. That build would let you use the phone as is.

Any updates there OP? Did you make any advancement? =]
Has anyone else noticed that when in a dark area, pressing the main button will turn on the screen but it will then automatically and immidiately turn off?
Several times I've gotten into a battle with the phone only to lose, turning it on and it turns off, then turning it on again and so on...
To compound the issue, in these situations it seems that double tap is signifigantly less responsive to activate the screen as well.
I'm pretty sure this phone is using some sort of facial recognition, it has smart stay doesnt it? I think it has gravity/accelerometer to turn on the screen when you pull it out of your pocket. In the back of my mind I'm thinking that since it cant see me it is shutting off but this doesnt seem consistent...
I'm running stock rom, rooted with twrp. Any ideas?
I have not experienced that. Did your G3 do that out of the box?

Never heard of it. Screen is set to auto off in 30 seconds. Change it to 2 min and you should be good. If u running without a case then maybe the hand is touching the edges of screen this will also shut screen off in double tap.

I didn't notice it until the last week or so. but I kind of feel like that was because I hadn't used the phone that much up until then. I didn't make any major changes to the phone immediately before I started noticing it either, I had already had it rooted for about a week. I feel like the stock rom does have some glitches to it.
The G3 does have a "smart screen" feature that detects your face (Settings > Display). Disable that and see if it helps.
I've not run into this in the dark but have when I try and use my arm band holder when running. The holder covers the ambient light sensor so the phone thinks it was accidentally turned on like in a pocket and shuts right off. Super annoying.
Noticed similar behavior when the phone is in my bike mount at night. Basically it's acting like the proximity sensor is covered. In my bike mount's case, it is covered by a clear screen cover, but normally that doesn't trigger the proximity sensor. But when it's very dark out (not under a street light etc.), it seems to think it's blocked and turns itself off. Annoying.

Ive had this issue too investigating now
Had that issue when I was using the lock screen face unlock. In the dark it didn't see my face and then it shut off. Setting is in lock screen section

Lol.
I have the same issue EVERY night. Why is that? It's very annoying
Same issue here
it seemed to resolve itself when I factory reset my phone
but after I got my apps reinstalled from my google backup it started again
so it seems like it's a software issue - not sure to which app it is related to
let me know if you find a fix - this is quite annoying
Me too. I've been facing this issue at night, when it's very dark.
Me and my buddy were in the car during a roadtrip and it was very dark, I mean like: No lights outside, no lights inside the car, the double tap feature didn't even work to begin with and whenever I tried to use the "Power Button" It would come on and then suddenly 'boom' Turn off, now this would happen a few times until it stays on. Weird...
I just experienced this myself, first time I've seen it happen in the 30 + G5's that I've sold. If it's in the dark it just doesn't turn on at all. I hope LG is fixing this. I'm about to Factory Reset it right now and hope for the best! Someone else mentioned that this is the only forum that is disccusing this issue. It must be a very few that are effected. I'm testing another one as we speak.
Has this issue been resolved? My friend's G3 also has this issue. Day time no problem. When it is dark the screen wont' stay on.
Same problem, no fix yet
Same problem here - Pointing it at any light and pressing the power button will turn it on. (As will plugging it into power). Tried tinkering with all sorts of settings (face recognition/auto dimming feature/etc) nothing worked. Tried factory reset, that didn't work either.
My issue started after i had my screen replaced (by a shady shop) who probably didn't do a good job of packing it back together....I'm going to see if I can have someone open it up and clean it out a bit..
I have the same issue on my G3. Even if you're under the covers in bed, the thing doesn't turn on until it gets light. It basically doesn't turn on in the dark through double tap and actually not even with the power button. It could become a safety hazard for someone in an emergency situation.

I have also same problem. No solution yet.
So I'm a newbie here so sorry if I do something wrong. I just installed my headunit and when I turned it on, I thought the lights could've been a little brighter so I saw the elements setting and messed with it to get a brighter color. After I did that, my button lights no longer work but the rest of my illumination lights in my car work except the headunit. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Got exactly the same problem. Would be very appreciate if someone could give an advice.
I know on my unit the button lights won't work unless my interior lights are set to the highest setting.

Also heard about that, but didn't work for me. :crying:
You could go into the factory settings menu and select RGB LED or keylight and see how if that changes anything.

Already tried that too. Actually, I tried almost everything that is known except modifications of hardware. I just was wondering if there are some other tricks to fix it.

Did you take out the Head Unit?
You may have dislodged the illumination cable on the unit. This happened to me.
I had no illumination, searched forums then found out that I needed to connect ACC to the "orange wire" (Xtrons head unit) then all the lights were illuminated.
