I have read a bunch of stuff about downgrading unrooting and all this other stuff, but I am not sure what I need to do to be able to install possibly the Skyraider 2.0 Rom.
I have a stock 2.1 Inc that is Rooted
From what I understand I need to:
Unroot
Install Leaked OTA from about a month ago
Reroot
Then install the ROM of my choice so long as my radio is 2.0.... now
Is this correct? If so is there a tutorial to take me from start to finish on my setup now? I hate jumping different tutorials because they are all a little different on how they do stuff.
So if u go to scuccia's thread called 2.2 leaked rom he has instructions on how to do everything.

I put the PB31IMG.zip file on my sdcard and rebooted to bootloader, and it search for a few .nbh files and was unable to find them. So I am currently copying all the files off my sdcard onto my computer then formating from FAT to FAT32 because it said it had to be FAT32 so I hope this helps.
If you haven't found your answer yet, check my thread. I think I called it Rooting for noobs or something like that. It'll take you through everything. I asked some of the dumbest questions you you'll probably find all of the answers there.

Question for the seniors in the area.
If I have rooted my EVO via the 30 step, non-adp / yes terminal emulator method, and have bugless beast as my rom, radio 1.39.00.05.31, can I flash the rooted update from yesterday quoted below:
Also is anything I have done been odexed / deodexed. I dont' believe it is, but maybe in the beast somthing is....again, forgive the ignorance.

Here is the OTA 1.47.651.1 update(complete ROM) rooted. It works with Toast's method but I don't know if it will work with Unrevoked
Just an FYI, zip contains odex'd system files
Also it will not break NAND access - If it does, redo Toast's part 2 root method and then rerun this update from this tread?
I am sure there are a bunch of guys in here that have a similar setup and are curious. Forgive the new guy, but I guess I'm here to progress......yes?

This should be posted in the general forum, imo.
Why (imho)? Put down the Gameboy and try and answer the question. Every section of my question has to do with areas specific to THIS forum. So where is the sense in posting in general? Try and contribute something to the conversation rather than, "move your post." In other words.....quit padding your stats dude. Thanks for the help though....lmao.
Considering that you will want to wipe everything (cache, dalvik cache, and system data) before installing, you can use either one. I use the standard ODEXed version myself, but it's a matter of preference.
you're good to flash this rom. it'll put on the newest sprint stock rom that was released ota but maintain your root and nand unlocked.
if you want my recommendation, wait for whomever's rom you're using to bake it into their rom, then you'll have the newest system files + your favorite custom rom
de-odex'd roms enable you to change the android themes. you can't do the same with odex'd.
odex'd also take up a little more of your internal phone space but nothing drastic.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Been lurking for a while and reading up on rooting and flashing roms. Picking up my Evo tomorrow and I am going to root and flash a custom rom then. I have all of the necessary files downloaded and have read over TheBiles instructions numerous times. My question is on Section I Step 4 when I download unrevoked do I need to be concerned about downloading the correct version of unrevoked? I know that changes have been made to that app to allow more of a "complete" root but I am not interested in rooting that way. I just want to follow the guide provided by TheBiles so I want to make sure that I am downloading the proper version of unrevoked.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm not really sure about the changes to Unrevoked. I followed The Biles method a week or two ago and it went just fine using Unrevoked. I'm not even sure that it's actually Root. I think all it does is allow superuser access temporarily to allow you to backup your phone prior to actually rooting.
Once you've done the backup using Titanium Backup (and you aren't going to even need that on a fresh phone) it wants you to reboot into the phones recovery system and flash the actual firmware/whatever update that roots the phone.
So, long post made short: I think you can skip the Unrevoked part and go directly to flashing PC36IMG.zip. But I'm not 100% positive.
Total nOOb request here (don't flame), but I've read a bunch of forums and I'm just trying to minimize the chances of messing this up.
Installed 2.2 with Root no problem (No OTA update yet). Reading the forums, I Nandroided back to my 2.1 Rooted. Now I want to install the OTA update so I can start flashing 2.2 roms with the needed update. Can someone walk me through real quick. I've download dinc_ota.zip and PB31IMG.zip. Now what do I need to do....
Did you really need to start a thread for getting your own personalized guide? The guide in the first post of the 2.2 leak thread works just fine if you can follow directions.
Of course that's the only one I didn't look at. Mod. Feel free to delete this thread. My apologies.
Install tom manager. go to "install rom from sd card". Navigate to the location of the ota update file. click it. Check "wipe data/cache". Press ok. Let it run. Enjoy 720p recording and the other features.

Even if I'm rooted????
I know this has been asked a few times, but reading through 100's of threads and posts, I still dont see it..
Has anyone come up with a procedure to root a stock 2.2 froyo evo while using a mac computer yet?
thanks so much!
It's the exact same method. There's an unrevoked 3 for mac and it works done. An updated mac will also already have the driver so you can skip that step.

well, the unrevoked website has this posted, re: stock froyo 2.2..
"unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool
unrevoked3 is a tool to flash a custom recovery image to your Android phone. A custom recovery image allows you to perform advanced tasks on the system partition, such as flashing custom ROMs and taking a full backup of your phone (a “nandroid” backup). We recommend installing the custom recovery image for all users who want rooted phones.
It can be obtained from http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/.
At this time, unrevoked3 does NOT work on stock Froyo (Android 2.2) phones."
Is that true?
thanks
Yes. You'll want to find the root 2.2 thread in the dev forum. The steps are pretty much use an exploit to downgrade to 2.1 and then use unrevoked. I simply didn't cover all of the steps.

yeah, I have seen that thread; so, just use unrevoked 3 for mac to "start" the process, and just follow the thread once you have root?
I dont recall if there are any ".exe" files you need to run through the process, since you obviously cant run those on a Mac..
thanks!
Hi, I know this thread is old but I'm resurrecting it because it sort of applies to my situation.
Basically I want to know if I could use this to flash to an old stock update as opposed to a beta build. (I'm on an epic so I won't go into more details, just curious if I can use this basic methodology since I do not have any access to a windows machine and ODIN does not work on mac). Thank you!
edit: Sorry for posting in the wrong section! someone move this please
Hi!
What's the best way to install the latest stock ROM for HTC Desire Z?
I have rooted, installed hboot-eng, s-off, flashed clockworkMod recovery and installed cyanogenmod 7.
Now I'd like to try the current (Gingerbread) official ROM from HTC.
is it safe to flash with the hboot-eng and s-off?
Where can I get it?
Thanks!
Lol
The XDA app now has a thanks button. Please use it
I dont think the section is named Q&A.
Then there is the search button. Its free and wont take you to court for abusing it.
You're in the wrong section, buddy.
I believe you just flash the latest update or install one of the official ones and take the OTA update fromt here. It'll take you back to s-on and that's it.
Ooops sorry I wanted to post in the Q&A... was on the wrong Tab I think.
Anyway. I tried the search but it said it's currently unavailable. I tried searching with Google. I looked through all the suggested posts after I entered the subject.
I really tried to find the info. This forum is a rough place for a noob.
Try and flash virtuous sense its the stock rom optimized
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042
I tried Virtuous (and many other ROMs)... CM is the best imo, except it's missing a good dialer.
I just like to try the original ROM.
Meanwhile I recovered a backup with the stock Froyo ROM and started the OTA update, but I fails to install. It says something like "E:cannot mount SDARD:downloads/(long file name).zip. Aborting installation" in ClockworkMod recovery.
Do I have to uninstall the recovery image before updating OTA?
Well that is the stock rom with under the hood things done. Also I don't know why you would want to go back to froyo
I don't want to go back to Froyo (that worked) but to Gingerbread.
It's just out of interest actually. Having a go at it to see how the new original ROM performs.
The forum search is working again and I found some threads, but none of them describe how to install the OTA update on a rooted device.
Am I right by saying ClockworkMod does not work to install a Stock HTC update, I I'd need to revert back to the original Recovery image?
Try renaming the file to the original name? PCIMG10.zip or whatever and use the stock bootloader?
If you want complete stock without the bloatware, that's what virtuous sense is for (not unity)

Virtuous is OK but I had some crashes with it in the past. Right now I installed Virtuous Unity with Sense 3.0. I'm gona keep it some time as it behaves good so far (except for automatically installing every crap app I had in the past - eventually I remember to log in to Google only after disabling automatic restore next time)
I'd still be interested to know
- Where to get and how to flash the original HTC Gingerbread ROM
- Why the OTA update fails to install in ClockworkMod Recovery
- Some other things that may need a separate thread.
Generally, I'm sorry for being a noob but I'm really interested in learning this stuff. I hope I'm not bothering you guys.
Thanks to all you devs for what you do!
(I made a dedicated "Thank you" thread once but it got deleted in immediately)
Thanks for all the answers to far! I'm going to test drive Sense Unity now.
cheers
Now this is funny! You actually rooted your phone now you want to know how to flash a ROM! Lol I wonder where you got lost in the reading process. Sorry guys
