rooting error - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

im trying to root for 2.2, but for some reason im getting this error?
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(Device or resource busy)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
ive placed it on my internal SD card, its 790kb in size. anyone have any ideas?
also, i think i may have heard you need to flash 2.2 as MODEM, i flashed it as PDA, but its working fine with the exception of rejecting root, could this be an issue?

OMG! please leave this forum if you don't know how to use the search button! There is a whole deticated topic!
You have to flash it as the PDA or else it wouldnt work! and fail to flash!

my left nut. not the other one, just the left one

help i really need help with my hero!!

hey guys!!
i had my hero for the first time this week and i heard about a new firmware so im going to to tell what i did exactly!!
1- i erased every thing on my sdcard
2- i turned off my htc hero and went in recovery by pressing home+power
3- i downloaded this rom from this site
http://htcpedia.com/hero_community_release_no_wipe_98057c7bc94393469/soft/htc-hero-rom.html
4- i pressed wipe data/factory setting reset
5- i pressed apply sdcard:update.zip and this came out:
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (832)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
That's it nothing else ive done !! so please friends help i had the phone for three days only and cant do anything!!
i dont know whats root and whats flashing whats everything what i did is what i told u!!
help me!!
here we go...
1. this is the development section. please think before you post, and select the correct section.
2. if you only wiped your data you should still be able to use the stock android that was on the phone when it was delivered. try turning it on and see what happens.
3. if you opened and altered the zip file that is your problem. don't do that, the file is signed after it is created, and needs to be resigned if the content was changed.
4. try downloading it again, might also be a faulty download.
5. if you have no clue what you were doing (and probably neither know why you wanted to do it), have you thought about finding out first? would you just rip some pieces out of your cars engine because someone in a forum told you to?
edit: Ninja-d by kendong, probably better advice also
thanks very much my friend for fast reply ill try both ways!!
sorry kendong2 for putting my thread in this forum but this is the only way to solve my problem and i beg until this problem is finished remove the threa!!

ok, here is how it works: we won't help you if you don't take at least the effort to phrase a question and use some punctuation marks. and don't come with "sorry my english is not so good", every western language uses a dot at the end of the sentence.
what exactly is your problem now? you can turn your phone on and make calls, this is what i get from what you wrote. this would mean that your android boots up and is most probably fully functional. so i am sorry to be that rough, but as long as you don't manage to phrase a single sentence in something that comes even close to english nobody will be able to help you.
and about the wrong thread idea: this is not the wrong forum. it is just the wrong SUBFORUM. as you (tried to) phrase a question it should go into the Q&A subforum, see here. and removing the thread after solving the problem is not the idea of it, next week somebody with a similar problem will ask the same stuff again. will do anyway, but then we don't need to type the answers again, we can just link to this thread.
ok, kendog2!!
What I did now is that I downloaded this rom: (HTC Generic 2.73.405.38 - download)
from this site:
*is there a special rom that i should choose for my hero?
and I put it in my sdcard, and renamed it to "update.zip"
and I went recover mode wher there is only 3 options
I pressed (wipe) and than (apply update).
This came out again:
--------------------------
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (832)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
---------------------------
note: When I downloaded the rom i opened it!!
Does this do anything??
as long as you don't modify and then save the file it *should* not matter. but this points out to a faulty file anyway, so here is what you do:
download it again, do NOT open it (i don't know which tool you are using and what it does), copy to sdcard and apply. then report back.
download this rom an do it again like the way you have done it before
1. download this rom : http://www.romraid.com/paul/hero/update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-signed.zip
2. rename it to update.zip an put it on your sd card
3. put the sd card in your hero and push the home button while booting
4. and if you are in the recovery menu first wipe all data and then choose the option (the first with ....blabla..update.zip)
5. wait until it installed the new rom and then restart your hero
sry for my bad english im from germany
You need a recovery image that will allow update.zip files signed with test keys.
Read through the Amon_Ra Hero Recovery thread to learn how to get it installed.

Root Help, please

alright, so i'm following this supposedly dummy proof guide and i'm still having issues. my tech level is somewhat high so i'm no tard nugget when it comes to these things.
i'm on step 32 here http://androidforums.com/all-things-...oot-guide.html
i cannot get the update.zip to work. when getting to the recovery screen, i see the following
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
ignoring that and clicking "apply sdcard:update.zip"
i then get the following
"-- Instal from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
does anyone know what is going on and can possibly help me out? i've already un-mounted/re-mounted my SD card and tried all of those steps again and i'm still getting the same results. thank you!
The Simple Root method does most of these steps for you. Try it first. Look for Simple Root in the dev forum. Sorry that link didn't work but just go to the dev forum.

I hate to say it but it sounds like a brick, these devices have a nasty habit of bricking themselves. The same thing happened to me(and a bunch of other people), at first it wouldn't mount the cache, then the system wouldn't mount next it wouldn't turn on at all. I had to send it in to Acer to be repaired. Their is more information about it in the brick thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735480
The freeze along with those are the errors most commonly seen when the emmc dies, meaning bricked. Even if it wasnt dead, flashing a stock ROM won't work, as you are unlocked.
Beat me to it
There must be a way... i'll rip it open and DD the damn sd if I have to. I don,t have the $ to repair it.
PIO ! Can you help ?
in the same shoes. Bought on craigslist, like new condition (no scratches anywhere, ran very well). I'm not scared to open this thing up but is there anyhting we can do? Would we have to change the motherboard? Can anyone give us some help? Obviously no warranty and a repair shop will be more than what I paid for device. My wife will be "displeased" with me if I go out and buy a new one, but I'm about to that step if we cant find some way to repair. Thanks for any info at all.

Motherboard replacement by you or Acer, no other way.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I would open it up and change motherboard, but having hard time finding one at reasonable price. If anyone has luck finding any please post a link.

That thread has the part numbers you need to search. It looks like used ones run about $59-89. Almost the price of a used or refurbished A100.
Thanks. Im going to keep an eye On ebay for one with broken screen or similar issue. Don't really want to pay more than 50-60$, since I only paid 100 for tablet. But I spent about that much on accessories, so would be nice to get fixed so I could use it on job sites. Just got the Lenovo ideatab and like it, but sometimes I miss the smaller screen and the ability to fit in my cargo pocket. I will let you all know if I happen across a cheap enough solution and let u know how it works out.

I did have exact same message on a HTC Desire SV with a CWM recovery that was supposed to be for this device. Issue was caused by an incorrect recovery.fstab file in the CWM recovery.img. You might try
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
of a known good working recovery before flashing.

Worst Rooting Issue

So, upon opening this you're probably thinking "this idiot needs to research and look up the forums for his common issue."
I can say that while I am new to this page, and also new to andriod dev tools, I am not new to technology or research. :silly:
I've looked at many forums, performed many searches and the like.
If you read all of this and find a simple issue or something I missed, please feel free to condescend and tut tut,
correcting me of my foolish ways.
I'll just jump right into the issue then...
So I'll start by saying that I've downloaded the proper drivers for my Nexus 2013 FLO/wifi.
(See the troubleshooting notes)
I unlocked the device, and used both TWRP and Clockwork (the latest versions per my device nexus 2013 flo)
Booting into either recovery partition, TWRP or Clockwork mod gives me the same error message log upon start.
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.7
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't open /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_install
E: Can't open /dev/block/platform/msms_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
(No such file or directory)
TWRP, in essence, gives me the same log.
Troubleshooting notes:
Understand that each of these methods have been done in combination with each
other variation in the multiple categories. It's been a maddening process.
Driver Installation
-Nexus Root Toolkit
-NetHunter Installer
-Android studio bundle
-Manually
(Each time I uninstalled the prior driver before installing the other version.)
Misc
-Attempting to push any mods/rom/img or access storage of any kind
using SDK gives me nothing.
-Typing
Code:
adb devices
gives me a blank space when booted into TWRP or Clockwork recovery.
-I've tried using either recovery image to format my devices storage to a more susceptible file structure,
but same error messages come up
Code:
Error mounting /(any directory)
Downloaded files
latest and second to latest files for
clockwork recovery touch 6.0.4.7-flo
twrp-2.8.6.0-flo
android studio bundle-141.1903250
SU
UWT
Understand simple fixes like shutting off the device and restarting it before taking a certain step or
completely starting over, locking it, formatting to factory image and trying it again have all been attempted,
multiple times in different sequences of iteration. I'm really hoping for a knowledgeable community to come
in and save me here. I bought this device for the purpose of playing with NetHunter on my deployment her in
Kuwait. I have much time, and much more to learn. Help me root this sucker!!!
Thanks guys!

I think you're probably having the same issue if you've recently purchased the device, and need to try the MultiRom version of TWRP.
Thanks!
I'll try that and respond with the updates.
-EDIT
It worked!!! Thanks!

Nice! Hopefully the next TWRP update resolves this on the standard TWRP.
OMG thank you... this has been driving me insane, had the same experience as OP with a Nexus we just got a week ago that came pre-installed with 5.x.x... PLEASE someone add the linked info to the guide at the top of the section for this device. Following the instructions there resulted in my uttering bad words around my children because of the lack of indication of this issue.

Rooted HTC 10 - cannot mount /system - root incomplete ?

Hi folks,
I need your help.
A few days ago I have received my brand new HTC 10. I updated to latest Android 7 Nougat and began to root remaining stock.
I followed the official guide and unlocked the bootloader, flashed latest TWRP (3.1.1.0) and SuperSU v.2.82SR1 and even got S-OFF by SunShine.
System is up an running and readily booting but...
Fact is I cannot mount /system in TWRP without the option "read-only". When I try to install apps via TWRP I get repeated messages saying "Failed to mount '/system' (Invalid argument) " and usually the apps do not install properly - flashed apps do not show up in the system after reboot.
In the system I have tried to rename a file audio_effects.conf (this is needed to install Viper4Android) in the folder /vendor/etc/ on the device but the folder is strictly read only. Any attempts to mount the folder as RW (using "adb shell", "su", "mount -o remount,rw /system" and similar) have failed. I have tried to gain access to files in the system folder using Root Explorer and Total Commander but the files remain strictly read only. I just get error messages trying to change file attributes, permissions, names).
SuperSU seems to work and according to Root Checker I am properly rooted but I doubt this. Somehow /system seems to be locked and not accessible.
Any ideas what I could do ?
Many thanks for your help ! :good:
Well, I simply flashed Viper10 ROM and the issue was gone.
Feel free to suggest solutions to the problem as somebody else might come accross this thread struggling with a similar issue. I believe the issue was caused by an incompatibility between the latest Android Nougat and the last available TWRP.

No, it's not an incompatibility issue.
Does anyone know what is causing this? I been running into a similar type issue where I get an error trying to flash ROM's. Tried to do a TWRP backup and it failed to back up data. I do a factory reset and data format and it seems to fix some things but still have trouble flashing ROM's. I was able to restore a nandroid but have ran into this issue a few times. I am on Viper magisk.
plz help a noob

I also just recently updated to nougat and when i tried to root using the latest (TWRP 3.0.3-11) it seems I get stuck on a screen with red text that says, "This build is for development purpose only . Do not distribute outside of htc without htc's permission."
I know this is not the original question but was hoping someone with more experience could help instead of starting a new thread :/
Thanks much!
I just ran the latest Verizon RUU and I am still getting this error when trying to flash Viper10_5.9.0_MAGISK. Seems system is not mounting, I don't know I will appreciate any help Thank you.
