i accidently formated my internals on my dinc. i think. i try to wipe dalvik cache and i get an error.
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(file exists)
Dalvik cache wiped.
i found another post with the fix but i am not good with adb. can someone please walk me through the steps?
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/
It's all right there, step by step in that thread. I have done it before. Where are you stuck?
I'm srry I'm a noob at this. I don't have the problems they are having with not being able to load different roms. I can do that with no problems.it is when I try to wipe dalvik cache from clockwork I get that error.
I think the way it happened was I tried to partition my sd card with rom manager and it started getting that error.(dumb I know now)
Should I try to partition anyway?
I went back to original 2.1 ota and re rooted and still can not wipe dalvik cache.
I can wipe data and cache fine.
Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for responding.

I figured it out for those who have the same problem.
I had to partition my SD card with ext2 l. After I did that everything was sweet. No errors.
Just thought I would finish that up.

I have that same error. I noticed it after trying to wipe dalvik cache before flashing a new kernal I flashed the kernal and it worked fine. I haven't done much to the phone other than flashing Virtuous 2.4 - 3.0.1 and Redemption 2.0.5 and revoluion theme no sd extentions or partitioning. Do I need to fix this or since everything is working or should I not worry about it?

Concerning the specific error about mmcblk1p2 "file exists" error, it is a cosmetic issue, not a functional one. In other words, nothing breaks. This is warning you that you don't have an sd-ext partition on your phone, and thus sd-ext can't be mounted to backup.
If you want to get rid of the error, create a large FAT32 partition 1 on your sd card and a small ext2 partition 2 (or larger, if you actually want to use sd-ext).
I'm not new to this but seems if I have a problem wiping dalvik cache with Clockworkmod recovery.
Every time I try and select that option (recovery->advanced->wipe dalvik->then takes me to the screen asking if I want to do it and it gives me an error. Its a mounting error
E:Can't mount/dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(Invalid argument)
or
E:Can't mount/dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(File exists)
when I press yes it takes me to main menu instantly. Usually (on my nexus) it would take a little while to wipe.
How do you guys wipe it, and do you get that error? If not, how do I fix it?
I have tried reinstalling recovery, fixing permissions, still gives me error.
Edit: included error, formatting and spelling
Edit 2: ive done more research, and it appears to be "a benign error, more or less referring to an SD-ext partition on your SD card for apps2sd. You don't have it formatted for it, so the recovery cannot find it and thus gives you that error. It should not effect the install, and should still clear dalvik."
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8255-coming-from-sense-roms-stuck-at-htc-incredible-white-screen/
is this the case? is it still wiping my dalvik cache?
EDIT 3: SOLUTION ,some more digging around:

I just have the Rom Manager app take me into recovery. In recovery i scroll down to advance and wipe the dalvik cacah with no problem.
I also get this same error. I don't know why. I think it not completely wiping dalvik was the cause for my faulty restore from nandroid a few days ago. Anybody know a fix for this?
Thanks for the solution! Will try it and report back.

Seems like you got the partition tables messed up.
I'm no pro so I don't know what could be done.
Hey All, Thanks.
Fixed it some how.
First downloaded FOTA bricked. followed the steps.
Then tried to flash latest GB with his latest/old flash tool (linux). but that didn't work
tried older Flashtool windows Version 0.2.9.1 with firmware 4.0.A.2.368 (This was my rescue)
Finally phone booted
Hey all, as I was trying to factory reset under TWRP, it would not let me and showed,

Our device does not have an sd-ext partition. Use the latest TWRP 2.6 and erase system, data, cache, and dalvik cache.
Sent from my One V using xda premium
Ohh, I have been using TWRP 2.3
Thanks! I'll try flashing TWRP 2.6
After trying to wipe it in TWRP it says unable to wipe sd/ext
Sd_ext is just a partition on you sdcard that does not exist unless you have created one.
It's just stating could not format sd_ext because it's not there
Do not fret my friend, it still factory resets like it's supposed to
I was setting my overclock with setcpu and it shut down my galaxy gio, and when it rebooted it just kept on the blue circle of cyanogen mod.
I already flashed stock and it would keep on something like the blue circle of cyanogen mod. I flashed cyanogenmod a couple of times too. Already partitioned my sd card again and i already wiped everything a couple of times too...
Someone help, i have readed like hundreds of posts and nothing seems to work
When i flashed stock i used a flashable cwm recovery, because odin dont detect my gio.
Flash stock rom and than go into stock recovery and wipe everything.
Hit thanks if I help

Try to flash the stock rom with odin, and when the infinite boot starts, enter in the recovery and wipe everything!
This should solve your problem :victory:

Friend, my problem is that i can't format /data or mount or nothing that involves /data like wiping dalvik cache and it makes my phone to dont boot
Descobri noutra thread que tambem es portugues
I'm also having the same issue
(Also im a newbie this was my first attempt at any flashing etc.)
installed signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip
then installed Jelly Bread v5.0
was ok for a while and working but then i wanted to play with other ROMS (in this case i now wanted to try cm-10.1.4-GT-S5660-gio++.zip)
I enter recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe batt stats
Then install cm-10.1.4-GT-S5660-gio++.zip
Then it hung for 35mins at loading blue circle screen.
I then took battery out and enter recovery, and attempt to wipe data/fatory reset and it says:
--Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/stl13
Formatting /Cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /sdcard/ .android secure...
Data wipe complete
Also i cant wipe dalvik cache it just does nothing blinks 1 second then back to menu.
Anyone know what i can do to fix this please?
Thanks for any help in advance.

YOu have the right CWM (cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip)
Make wipe, and format system wipe dalvik cache.
And try again.

i have tried flashing stock roms+recovery then go to CWM rfs and wipe and still get same errors
did you use cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only?
Do you think its possible my /dev/block/stl13 could be physically damaged?

Yes I only use that CWM nothing more.
Maybe is damage. Becqau format he system I can do with any CWM onçy wipe the dalvik cache isn't possible.
So if you can do nothing for sure you have a hardware problema.
That happen's when your try put a custom ROM or the phone broken and after you try to solve it.
