3G Won't Re-enable (Orange UK Desire) - Desire General

Hi, I am after a bit of help here after potentially messing up one of my Wife's friends new Desire.
It is on the the Orange UK Network and is their own branded version of the phone.
Because she was saying that the battery life was not very good, I installed 'apndroid' so that she could easily turn the 3G connection on and off and (hopefully!) preserve the battery life a bit more.
apndroid installed fine and turned the 3G off - however when I clicked the widget icon again, it wouldn't switch back on. I uninstalled apndroid and re-booted the phone but still no joy.
I have checked that 'Mobile Network' is enabled in settings and the 'Network Mode' is set to GSM/WCDMA auto.
Does anyone have any hints/tips/tweaks that might re-enable the 3G please? I can't figure out why this has happened. The settings look exactly the same as I have them on my HTC Tattoo and that works fine.
Any help you can give would be hugely appreciated! (And might get me out of the dog house!).

Check the apn settings. APNDroid changes them from the correct ones to switch off 3G so it should be a simple matter of removing whatever apndroid puts there.

Thanks for the quick reply - I did uninstall APNDroid in case that was what was causing the problem, so hopefully it would have reset itself to what it was originally.
Anyway, I'll get her to check.
If that isn't the problem would it be worth doing a 'hard reset'? She hasn't had the phone that long so she wouldn't lose much.
Thanks again for the help.

3G on Orange
You could try resetting the APN to default:
[Menu] > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > [Menu] > Reset to default
It may be too late for such a simple sort, but it might be worth trying.

APNDroid disabled your APN by adding a suffix of "apndroid" to your APN. If you uninstall APNDroid without reenabling your APN, it will remain disabled.

Guys, many, many thanks for all your replies - excellent help and suggestions - better than any 'Helpdesk'!!
The Wife will be contacting her friend tomorrow to pass on your suggestions - hopefully this will fix the problem.
Many thanks once again.

Guys,
Just thought I'd let you know we have fixed the problem - it was indeed the APNDroid 'tweak' still showing as enabled on the APN settings. To fix this I just created a new APN using the settings obtained from another Orange branded Desire, and hey presto, all working again!
Just in case they may be useful to someone else, these are the default APN settings for an Orange branded HTC Desire:-
Name
Orange Internet
APN
orangeinternet
'Proxy' through to 'MMS Port'
<not set>
MMS protocol
WAP 2.0
MCC
234
MNC
33
Authentication type
CHAP
APN type
default
Cheers!

Windows Live Messenger vs TMobile settings

Installed the Black Satin rom today - amazing btw! - and I've been wrestling with WLM all day. It did work at first but then stopped completely saying I was in an area with bad data coverage. ALthough I'm getting full H and 3G speeds.
After a hard reset, I tried WLM using wireless before I applied to Tmob settings and again, it worked perfectly. Drop Tmob back on and it dies again.
Anyone had this before and does anyone know of a workaround so I can have my 3G and WLM on the same handset.
Many thanks and keep up the good work. There's enough cabs on here to keep me entertained for days!!!
D-Jac
Just a quick question, are you putting in the T-Mobile settings manually, or via a CAB from here? I know most of the early CABs had a proxy hard-coded into them that could be causing problems. Let us know what country you're from and I'm sure someone'll be kind enough to give you the settings to put in. If it's UK, then:
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections
Advanced tab > Select Networks
New > Name it T-Mobile Internet and then click on the Modem tab
New > Name it T-Mobile Internet and select Cellular Line (3G)
Next > Access point is general.t-mobile.uk
Next > Finish
OK back outa few times and you're done.
Like I said, if it's not UK, this won't work! Also, if the problem isn't related to this - sorry!
Yeah, I added my T-Mob UK settings via the HTC tool that does it via ActiveSync. It added in an HTTP proxy that I couldn't delete. Strange, 'cos when I bought my Vario II it had no proxy defined.
When the proxy was there I could not access WLM. When I used a different CAB to re-add the settings, I could.
However, Agile Messenger still won't connect at all to AIM or MSN. Gawd knows why?!
Sorry - yes, I'm on T-mobile UK with web n walk. I found a cab on one of the wiki pages for T-mobile UK which is the first one I tried and didn't work. After posting here last night, I used the UK_Setup_ZD.exe program to load the T-mob settings and it still didn't work.
If anybody might be able to point me in the direction of a clean/usable T-Mob file that would be ace.
Thanks for the suggestion to load the settings manually. Before I cleared my phone of WM5, I followed the mrvanx guide to housekeep my existing setting but there is a starred out password in the connection for T-Mob internet so I couldn't set it.
As always, any help muchos appreciated!
If you're on T-Mobile UK, you don't need a username and password (trust me!). If you want, look up the details on the T-Mobile Help and Support website and it gives you step by step instructions on setting up the connections manually, that's where I got the above instructions from.
Oooh? Will try in and see how we get on. My searches have also lead me to other posts which think it may be a proxy settings, as the Tmob cab won't allow you to change the proxy.
I'll keep experimenting and will report back!
Confused Stu - YOU ARE A STAR!
Did a hard reset, back to a clean version of Satin. Input the details with no username and password and all seems to be working. Now all I need is to be able to stop it syncing every two seconds, but I shall have a mosey around the pages for the answer to that one and why I can't make it try wireless before dialling.
You've been a great help - cheers!!!
I had the same problem as you did after upgrading to Black Satin (starred out password in the T-mobile settings). I can confirm that you don't need the username or password to get it working.
Cheers,
Doogs

Cannot connect EDGE problem.

Hi Friends!
Now seems that I have a serious problem, my Diamond still with the "Cannot connect" problem, displaying the following message in any data transfer attempt:
"Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacture's documentation and try again."
It started just after updating from TLR2 to TLR3 ROM and Unsigned Hard SPL from OliNex, where radio version also changed.
Before that everything was working nice but now I have nice voice and WIFI quality, GPS and SMS are working as it should, but no GPRS/EDGE data connection.
Ive checked the connection settings lots of times, tried all RADIO versions and reflashed the following ROMs with the following Claro (Brazil) connection settings:
Settings > Connections > Connections > My ISP
APN: claro.com.br
User: claro
Pass: claro
Proxy settings: Only first box checked.
Tried setting network band manually for GSM, PAP and CHAP authentication, enabled and disabled HSDPA without success.
ROMs flashed for tests:
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26.25.09_0.93.25.26_Ship
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE_1.37.871.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03_Ship
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship
- tlr-diamond-2.08.07.01
- tlr-diamond-3.08.07.16
The same SIM card works perfectly in another cell phone, so I think it isnt the problem as shouldnt be with operator CLARO, here in Brazil.
Ive noticed, doing some internet search, that this problem used to happen in other HTC models, but I couldnt figure a way to solve the problem or what were its true origin.
I really need some help with this issue, since data transfer is very important to me.
Tnx in advance for your attention and help!

Some news:
Finally Ive discovered that my Daiamond is from Honk Kong after searching its part number.
I downloaded the RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1 ROM and got a surprise that it now have the Claro, and other operators from Brazil, connection settings in HTC Connection Setup, so the connection settings itself shouldnt be the issue.
The "cannot connect" problem persists...
I should donate to someone that can help me solve this problem, since I dont have any more hints to solve it...
Tnx!

Hi Laubscherc;
Double checked that too, even in automatic settings from "HTC Connection Settings Tool"
Anyone knows if there is any way to make any kind of log or debug to see while it tries to connect?
I think Im getting some hint about my problem with EDGE/GPRS connection. Ive entered field test mode by dialing *#*#364#*#* and in the Group GPRS / E-GPRS I can see some fields displaying 255: <Unknown> parameter.
Some of the fields are RLC: Uplink Coding Scheme, RLC: Downlink Code Scheme, MAC mode and others.
I think it should display the settings to work with my operator, but the question is why they arent filled and how to correct this? There some kind of editor for those settings?
alfatag i have exactly the same problem as you.. and as you too don't know how to figure it out. Allready posted a thread here as you did, but nobody helped. I hope some one who know a lot about the subject can help us. At least is better now, i was thinking i was the only one who have such a big problem. ^^

I´m facing the same problem. Have someone resolved this issue? I´m using the Claro operator too.

[Q] T-Mobile SIM in Orange-branded phone, how do I get a mobile internet signal?

Hi,
I've got the network operator set to T-Mobile (as opposed to T-Mobile Orange which didn't give me a signal on my old G2/Hero either) and the network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA auto. The software on the phone is an Orange-branded version of Android 2.2, do I need to install a T-Mobile version like my previous phone had or if I can fix the issue without having to do that?
Thanks in advance.

As long as the SIM is able to make and recieve calls then you can edit the APN settings to the following (Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > APNS > menu > New APN)
APN general.t-mobile.uk
Username user
Password tm
MCC 234
MNC 30
Auth PAP
APN Type default
Thank you so much, that was much simpler than I had expected!

[Q] Speakout new data plan settings

I had the unlimited mobile browsing package a while ago before it switched over and now they have changed it to data.
I have tried entering the new settings of rogers-core-appl1.apn and that doesn't work and I have tried internet.com as well with no luck. I did make sure the settings were enabled (the radio button was enabled) and I did check out the unofficial forms, but I wanted to come here since I could post for a phone specific response.
I also noticed I couldn't select the option of IPv4/IPv6, as only IPv4 was available. APN settings are Internet+MMS instead of default.
Has anyone had any luck with it?
Regards,

Let me know if you figure it out. I have the same issue. No data connection
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I just restarted my phone and it seemed to work. just clear the settings for apn back to default and restart. internet.com worked for me as the apn. could try using the other, but at least I know it works for me with internet.com

Questions re Network/APN (and also #*#*4636*=*#) for best LTE, VoLTE, or nearest ther

Hi..
I bought an unlocked HTC 10 from HTC a few months ago. My carrier is TMOUS. I have read a few places around XDA and Reddit that the HTC SIM-unlocked phones on TMOUS experience erratic signal strength and/or coverage for voice, data, MMS, etc. at times.
ThinKing I might investigate this by looking at the APN settings, I checked my phone to examine the the specifics of my APN configuration, and I noticed several items that were missing from most of the "2016 TMO APN Settings" found around the web. Specifically, the settings under MMSC and APN Type seemed to be incomplete or incorrect.
After changing some settings of the APN settings above, and also going into "#*#*4636*#*#" under "Phone Information" and changing more, I lost all data and voice for a few minutes. I simply rebooted to get those original settings back, butreboot and get things back but now I would really like to know what the settings those T-Mobile customers who purchased their HTC 10s from TMO before they abandoned their sale of them. I also would be interested in anyone suggestions on how I might keep new settings if a reboot just restores the original settings.
Specifically (as far as settings) I am curious as to the settings they have for their main APN, and also what is set for "Set Preferred Network Type" under the menu/settings when "#*#*4636*#*#" is typed and you go into "phone information". The correct setting is a list of protocols. I have checked around the web and cannot seem to select the right list of protocols on this phone, so I am really puzzled as to the right setting.
Ant help would be appreciated...!

download the tmobile app. in the app, you can run some diagnostics and one of the tests will tell you if your APN info needs an update and you can update it from there. its all very easy, just download the app and run the tests.

Thank you! The list of things after APN Type is great...All I had was "default, supl"! Also thank you for that "Set Preferred Network" of GSM, WCDMA, LTE (Auto).
However, what's really strange is that I don't have an option for "APN Protocol" nor "APN Roaming Protocol"...so i can't specify the IP protocol.
I was hoping to enter IP protocol because I read that T-Mobile now has IPv6 up and running.... soooo if you change "APN Protocol" to IPv6, you should experience a better signal as IPv6 is probably only being used as overflow right now.
Try it (if you want) and let me know if you experience any difference.
EDIT: One more question..under Settings-> Mobile Data -> Preferred Network"?
I have two choices: Global or GSM/WCDMA/LTE. Right now I have global selected, but don't know which one is correct. What is yours set to?

Which T-Mobile app? There are like 5 of them.
I installed the one just called T-Mobile and it said "T-Mobile is hitting some rough waters and isn't available right now", so it may not like the fact that I am rooted, S-off, etc. But I'm not sure....

One thing you must do first is s-off via sunshine.

I'm s-off already, so I'm good to go...But what do you mean convert to T-Mobile? When I got this phone and put my T-mobile SIM card in, and started it for the first time, it pre-selected T-Mobile network and took a few minutes to configure (and presumably the correct bands and frequencies) automatically.
When I go into "Select Network operator" only T-Mobile and AT&T are working choices...and T-Mobile has a start next to it likely indicating it's the proper network for this phone.
So I think it's already a "T-Mobile" phone.

change cid to T-Mobile cid and flash ruu. Then you will have T-Mobile radio. When Android N comes it should be fixed on us unlocked versions. I have 2 10s and ones on T-Mobile and other us unlocked and on us unlocked band 12 is unstable where I'm at so I get all the problems you described.

Thank you... Do you think it would be possible to just change the CID and create a SDcard zip file with TMO firmware. In the past (with my HTC M8) I have extracted the components from a stock ROM.zip (which I got from an RUU) and created a firmware zip which simply updated my firmware and didn't wipe internal storage flash stock recovery, etc, etc....
I guess my question is...provided I create the bootable external SD firmware.zip correctly and also change the CID, is this a feasible plan?

yes it may be possible but I'm pretty sure data is going to need to be wiped. When I used the firmware zip method to convert to T-Mobile my data wouldn't work without doing the ruu first then waiting till it booted fully first. Then proceeded to install twrp and custom rom. So if you end up with data problems then you must ruu.
I have the latest ruu for T-Mobile I just haven't uploaded it yet. If you need it let me know.

Uploading the latest RUU would be amazingly helpful!!
One of the reasons I am hesitant to RUU this phone is because I'm on the HTC build 1.96.617.2 (and an OTA waiting if I want to install it manually), but the TMO RUU I found in this forum is 1.80.xxx...which I believe is from last June. I didn't really want to go back to that older build...
EDIT: I was going to change my CID, but just realized I have no idea what the T-Mobile CID or MID actually are. Could you possibly do a "getvar all" (or if you already know it). I searched around for it but only found HTC CIDs and obviously SuperCID.
