Hey I just rooted my phone. I currently have 4g reception. It says connected to Sprint and I have an IP assigned but when I go to web browser or you tube I cannot Connec to the Internet. Help will be greatly appreciated. I used the Simple Root OTA Edition to Root my phone.
I have had the same issue and found these 2 solutions:
First try to update your PRL under system updates that worked for me.
If it is really stubborn, try "starting completely over" there are posts on here, don't remember the link.
Are you in a 4g area that is officially out or are you in a new market that is in process of rolling out? I know people in Minneapolis have been having 4g go on and off in certain test areas.
Im in a 4g area. its always worked until I rooted last night.
PRL update didnt work. so what start over rooting the phone again?
No. Go read the instructions about fixing 4G issues. You aren't going to get spoon fed your answer no matter how many new threads you start and people you PM. Stop being so lazy.
I really im not being lazy im looking everywhere on the site trying to find it if you can send a link would really appreciate it...Im not trying to be spoonfed.
You're obviously not looking very hard.

Just wondering is everyone else's phone is connecting fine. I just find it odd that I updated the radio and the wimax and 4G was working fine for 2 days then now its only goes thru scanning, connecting to sprint, obtaining IP address and it just keeps cycling. I dont want to go ahead and mess around with it more since its odd to me that it was working. I've checked my wimax mac and it is correct and I have tried deleting the wimax tree.
Having the same issue here!
FYI Just an update from another forum. It seems to be an issue with Sprint itself. Thank god I was wondering why if it was working and I havn't changed anything why did my 4G die. It seems to be an issue with a provisioning system. Chicago users have been affected by this also. Hopefully everything gets fixxed soon.
Im just glad I can finally stop searching and reading through numerous 4G threads, but in the end all the reading does provide a learning experience. Such as using cat log, dmesg, etc.
here i was thinking i messed my wimax up, thanks guys!!!!
4g back up!
....if this specific question....very specific question....was already answered...
I can't stay connected to a 4g network. My evo will connect to 4g, stay on for 10 secs, and then disconnect. Then I have to manually reconnect, and the entire process repeats. Before you go passing judgement please read the following:
- I've used terminal emulator to make sure my WiMax Mac is correct.
- I'm using radio 2.15.00.09.01
- Installed a stock version of the OTA 3.29.651.5 and rooted it using this thread: [Guide] How to apply the new OTA 3.29.651.5 when you have clockwork and s-off (sorry can't post links yet)
- WiMax radio is 26023
- PRI is 1.77_oo0
- PRL is 60670
I read something about increasing the timout reconnect from 10 to 300 in another thread that I have bookmarked.
My question is this
Is this the normal function of the WiMax code or does this have something to do with the rooted rom I installed?
Is the only way to fix this done by changing the timeout value mentioned before?
Once again, I will blow my head off if this has been answered before.
Thanks
Shouldn't have anything to do with the rom. Have you ever been able to connect (and stay connected) to 4g? Are you in an "official" 4g area? from what I've seen, the disconnect issues you're describing are normal in areas where they're still rolling out 4g, but it isn't fully up and running yet.
You can also try renaming the xxxx.tree.xml file in /data/misc/wimax/ while the wimax is off, and letting it rebuild the xml file again the next time you turn 4g on - but I think this only helps for the constantly scanning issues. Note that you're renaming that file (instead of deleting it completely) so you can go back to it if you run into any issues.

there is a thread in the dev sectin on how to change your 4g connection timeout. One simple thing you can try is to update your profile in software updates.
If people had more useful thread titles, don't you agree that it would be easier to search them?
Might have to blow my head off......

Thanks for responding....I've already updated my profile and I know about the 4G connection timeout thread.
I mentioned in my original question I already have that thread bookmarked (not tyring to be a ****, didn't know if you caught that).

I have never been able to connect and stay connected to 4G.....but I'm not really aware of any official 4G areas around here. I live in north jersey as well.
I picked up a strong 4G signal by coincidence while near the border of two towns (Clifton and Passaic....not sure if you're familiar with them) and that was when I started experiencing the disconnect/manual-reconnect issues.
I never connected to a 4G network before I rooted my phone because I could never get a signal. It was only until recently, after I rooted, that I've only been able to connect semi-successfully. I tried a good 10 times with the same results.
i.e.
I'd get a strong signal, do a speed test (which was blistering at 8577/1049 on the first try and 7699/1020 the second), and then let the phone sit idle. It will always disconnect, but I have no problems whatsoever manually reconnecting.
My confusion was whether or not this was common for people who have stock, non-rooted, clean as your baby sister's "you know what" Evos when trying to connect to a non-official 4G network, or is something wrong with how I rooted/the rom I used/whatever. Should I have to manually reconnect? Should the phone automatically disconnect from the 4G and go to 3G after a certain idle time? Should the phone automatically use 4G as the main connect if I have the WiMax radio on and the signal is really strong?
I assume I'm connecting to a non-official 4G signal.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy modding anything that has a circuitboard, but keeping up with all the issues can be a little annoying. Being a novice coder, this platform (new to Android) doesn't seem to be to complicated and I'm learning quickly. I have a spare PS3 sitting in my closet still running YDL. You used to be able to install an addtional OS on the PS3 before Sony got pissed because people were f***in up their PS3's. Sony "forced" an update that removed the ability to install another OS on the system, and the update actually wiped-out any other OS you had already installed. I put YDL on the PS3 so I could run NES/SNES/Genesis roms.
Back on topic, and to make a long story short (waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy to late for that I guess), I'm just wondering whether or not my phone is working as it should.
Like I said, the phone connects...I do some stuff like a speed test....then disconnects automatically. Then I get a 4G notificiation in the main Android notification pull-down menu....and re-connect manually. The 4G signal is really strong, not sure if it's official.
Thanks for responding btw, I really appreciate your comments and I'll check out what this tree.xml file is all about. I understand the annoyance though. Not only is it annoying to have multiple threads all talking about the same thing, programmatically it's extremely inefficient and redundant.
Hence, if this question has been asked, I'll blow my head off with a 12 guage.
yes...agreed....but

sometimes getting good advice comes with grabbing attention from the right person. I've elicited an informative response from a couple other members. I thank them for being helpful to someone new.
can't I change the title of my own thread later on?
EDIT: An as soon as I changed the title, views dropped dead...cause I knew a title with good keywords would get no attention.
And you've ensured that while YOU may get advice and a solution, no one in the future will be able to use that same advice because this thread isn't likely to show up in a proper search.
Also, how many people know the answer but don't click on threads with titles as useless as this one? I would bet far more than who would click on it.
This is just basic forum etiquette, not anything unique to XDA.

......you are correct....I understand....that is why I'm going to change the title of the thread. Are you looking for me to say I'm sorry or something?
correct me if I'm wrong, but the site also indexes the content of the message as well. I'm very familiar with SEO and understand that a lot of indexing logic places heavy emphasis on the title of the thread, but the keywords in the content of the page also have a lot to do with how the thread pages get indexed. It doesn't solely rely on the title.
Just to put this to an end, I'm sorry for titling this thread as such?
Now, any thoughts on the actual question that I posted or are you going to stay mad at me forever?
Hey guys, I have had a problem recently devolop on my phone, regarding 4g. First, I will start by saying that I have read just about everything I can read regarding broken 4g, but find nothing pertaining to my specific issue. Secondly, is there anyone is the Las Vegas area having issues connecting to 4g? Next, here is quick run down of the issue. I use 4g daily, all the time. I have never had an issue with it. I am currently using Myn's warm two point two, RLS2, on kings #11. Never had an issue with 4g, no matter what ROM i've used actually. I have NEVER flashed a wimax update. I have flashed a radio update, maybe a month ago or so. So I was tethering while on 4g, and I downloaded a modified "sexy" rosy, with the browser button on it. I then booted to recovery, wiped cache and davlik, then flashed the rosie zip and rebooted. Everything seemed fine, rosie worked, and all was well. Then I went to turn on 4g, and it won't connect. Just says scanning, connecting to sprint, disconnected, scanning, connecting to sprint, disconnected. After trying a billion times, once I got it to connect, for about 10 seconds, i had great 4g signal (as i always did prior to this) then it kicked back to 3g, and was continuing its scanning loop. So i restored my nandroid backup (which I made right before I flashed that rosie zip, while 4g was working) and I still have the same problem. So, my question is, is it possible to screw up the RSA keys, having not even flashed a wimax radio update? Or am i just experiencing some insane coincidence, that this started happening immediately after flashing that rosie zip. I am not sure how much troubleshooting i should put into this, seeing as I dont see how its possible that flashing that zip could've screwed up my 4g RSA keys. I am not sure how to figure out if it's my phone or sprint's network that is the problem. I have read some threads on how to check if the RSA keys are still in tact, which I will probably try to test that later, but I have never used a command prompt, or ADB shell before. I guess it's time for to read up on that and learn how to do it. I get confused about if I'm supposed to be doing these commands from the phone or my PC. Does anyone have any opinions, suggestions, ideas, insight? Anything? Any pointers would be super appreciated. Thanks fellas.
Sounds like 4g network went down. Can't be anything else if you were able to actually connect even though it was only for a brief moment.

Thanks for the reply. That is certainly what I am hoping. I used root explorer to look at my MAC address, via data/misc/wimax and the number it provides me with matches the number under my battery, so I believe that is a good thing. One of the post's I read, regarding this issue, said to rename that number (xxxxxxx.tree.xml) to xxxxxxxx.tree.xml.old. I'm not exactly sure what that will do, or if I should try it. I am hesitant to play with things I dont know about (yet). Any further suggestions or opinions? If I were to call sprint, would they tell me if 4g was down in my area? We did have 4 straight days with some pretty insane and sporrattic lightning storms. Perhaps something got damaged.
thanks
So it turns out 4g is down near my house. I'm on 4g right now, just in a different part of town. Sorry for wasting the thread space. Thanks again
Hi all,
I am new here. At least to the posting and all that. I have been flashing and trying to learn more over the past couple months, and this site has been what has taught me all, so I decided to sign up.
I am running into an issue right now with tethering and I was kinda just wondering if it was normal or am I experiencing something different.
When I am connected via 4g and tethering to a laptop, I can surf just fine, and do other misc. things to get me by, but when I start to download anything, my download speeds are HORRIBLE.
I can run speedtests ALL over the country, and it will be anywhere from 4-6mbps with a 1-2mbps upload. But, when I am downloading ANYTHING, I will get max maybe 100KBps. I just wanted to know if there is a cap on it or something that I can bypass or is this just normal for the way it is.
I am running [KingsROM][Alliance ROM] [Version r6.2] [Sense 2.0] 2.1+3.0 with all updated radio, wimax, prl, ect ect.
Sorry if this is the wrong section or anything, like I said I am completely new to posting ANYWHERE on ANY forum... but this seems like a good place to start.
Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966418 There ya go.
Let me first start by saying I am testing another Evo 4g as well as an Evo 3D at the same time next to each other. My phone gets around .3 everytime while the other phones receive .6-1.8 on avg. The Evo 3D is stock, unrooted and the other Evo 4G is running CM7 currently.
I was originally on CM7, then I tried 3G turbocharger script. Then I moved to MikG (currently running 3.1) and additionally tried ##3282# method, but it was already at all 0's when I first launched it on MikG.
I am looking to find out if anyone knows a specific area that I may have messed something up or some other way to fix this issue. It isn't fixed by AOSP/Sense, and the 3G turbocharger/##3282# method is not affecting my speeds.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any help to this. All I seem to find time and time again is the ##3282# method when I search, but my phone has had that as the default setting all along...
Welcome to Sprint, where unlimited 3g means you get dial-up speeds from 1998.
Does it say 1x or 3g?
i have had that problem before with the evo 4g it happens sometimes because sprint updates there PRL and Profile updates to connect too cell towers and with a lot of custom roms you cant update these things like on the official firmware. This causes loss of service in some areas and in some cases no service at all.
I live in a 4g area but when I get to a spot that it coverts to 3g I hate life....slow is a kind work for the speeds.....suck would be more appropriate
Yes, but like I was saying, the speeds on the phones next to me running custom CM7 and unrooted are both pulling in similar DL speeds that usually more than quadruple mine. I just can't figure out how to match theirs... I want to know what is different btwn our phones and where to find that information.
The only 2 options I see are trying to install the sprint based ROM and if that doesn't work, unroot my phone, try that, and next step would be to get them to trade it in...
I just hope there is a way I can change settings; it would save tons of time and effort.
Ok what is your current Dl speed? on the evo?
with that info i can probably find more ways to help you.
it ranges from .1-.4mbps on average. The other phones in the area achieve .6-1.8 or so... I spend a lot of time in the .27 range -sigh-
I am getting the new Ford Focus in a couple of weeks and I want to stream media to it while I drive, sooooo I would really like this resolved b4 my car arrives.
In that case i would reccomend,
flashing the evo back to stock sprint firmware and when you get done go to system update and update PRL and the Profile if that doesn't help let me know and we can try other options and if it does work you can put your custom firmware back on if you chose.
Updating the PRL and Profile in MikG doesn't work even though it looks the same and says it updated?
i actually just flashed a new rom today
it was the mikg kinged shooter 3d rom i was having problems myself so the best bet would go to stock because some features in mikg rom might not install those updates properly .
I will post back the results tonight or tomorrow when I get time. Thank you.
any time.
any questions feel free to ask
Last night i installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319881 and did the prl update and profile update. I nandroided back to MikG, and I don't think it helped. I will only know for sure on monday when I can test the other sprint phones next to mine.
At this point it is probably the hardware, right?
