Copy the .zip to your SD card. Re-boot into recovery and flash the zip. Search if you need more detailed "how to".
BTW: This is not the best forum... next time, Q&A Perhaps?

thank you for a good reply ive been searching the forums all day and have not been able to find the answers

Np. With rom's and updates you are typically putting a zip file on the root of your sd card and flash from there once you are in recovery.

Well its better than assuming you're fully rooted and know how to navigate recovery and actually select the zip you should have in the root of your SD card. The point is that this kind of stuff is repeated all over the forum. It is better to read before posting.

Did you read the post where i said i had been searching the forums all day? im not arguing

There's an excellent tutorial by joeykrim on flashing your Evo, as well as a little primer on using adb. The process will be the same for just about any other ROM you want to try. Just be sure to backup, and look into ROM Manager on the market as well. It's pretty user friendly.

[Q] How Do I Flash 2.15.x Radio?

I am currently running SkyRaider3 RC3 with a radio 1.00.03.04.06 which has been modified to permit AP tether. How do I flash the newest 2.15.x radio? Just throw the .zip on the SD root and flash it in Clockwork? I am also S-OFF.
Thank you.
Go Here
Download the file in the first post. Place on root of sdcard, meaning /sdcard/. Reboot phone into hboot. It will automatically detect the update and ask if you would like to apply it. Select Yes and let the update commence.
This will take a very long time. Probably 10 min or so. DO NOT PULL YOUR BATTERY OR DO ANYTHING TO DISRUPT THE UPDATE. I suggest putting your phone down, and leaving it there till it's done.
Also, there is no such thing as a stupid question, your just trying to learn, although a search would have probably helped you out
Thank you for replying :]
Loaded that file onto the root of my SD card, restart into hboot, and while it detects the file, it says something about there being something wrong with the image. I can't read it very well - some messages scroll quickly, then disappear, leaving just the hboot menu. Tried redownloading twice and no difference. Strange.
I assume that I'm not supposed to extract anything from PB31IMG.zip?

Your sdcard has to be formatted FAT32. Back ur sdcard up to ur PC and reformat the whole card fat32. Then put all files back on and try again.

Here is a Mac thread discussing FAT32: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?ac=375750
FAT32 is a format which works with both Macs and PCs - should be very easy is the consensus.
I haven't yet flashed the 2.15 radio - have been doing some bandwidth speed tests on my 1.x radio, and speeds seem very solid... not sure if I should bother with the flash after all...
This is very easy is you have S-OFF. just download the PB31IMG.zip file place on root of SD CARD and boot into HBOOT then follow the steps.

Is there a .img I can flash to revert my splash and unroot so I can take it to Sprint?

Yes. I'm pretty sure it was unrevoked 3. But I could be wrong. I've united and rooted a few times. I've always used the ruu

For being in such a hurry to yell at people that don't read, you sure don't read.
I'd say the best option is to bluetooth a restore pc36IMG to your root and then you can take it to sprint. Is your SD recognized by the system at all?
Yes!! That's what I'm actually looking for. Do you have a link to a pc36IMG that will unroot me??

If your system sees it you can download the s on tool and ruu needed and flash. If not do you have an adapter for your sd card?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
What?? I can use wireless transfer to put files on my SD. I CANNOT connect to my pc...only charge. Putting the files on the SD is not the problem, its connecting to adb in order to ruu.

I have the flashable images if too would like them I will uploads to db and post links. But your evo itself does see your sd card right? If so you need to download these and flash with bootloader here Is a video on how to use them.

Heres what you do, first turn your **** off. Then remove the back battery cover. Here's where it gets tricky, pull your battery out, remove sdcard, put it into your computer. Few, now that that's over, all you have to do is browse through the first couple pages and find the extracted ruu in pc36img form. Then go download the s on tool from the unrevoked page, put both on your sdcard, put it back into your phone, flash the s on from recovery, then the ruu image from the bootloader. Done! Its ****ing magical.

i've unrooted plenty of times, but just for kicks i went through your google docs "steps" and you got it right on man. Nice work. They should sticky this at the beginning of the development area and say "BEFORE YOU ASK AN UNROOT QUESTION, FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS". Good job man.
WingAngel, if you can get these on your SD card by either downloading to your phone or if you have an SD card reader, then you should be good to go. These are great instructions.
Hahaha sorry man. I couldn't restrain the sarcasm. Hope your problem is fixed.

you know i've brought my phone in a couple of times to sprint and for the most part they really don't care if i'm rooted. they've even asked me how to do it. Then again I pay for the extra insurance which covers you rooted or not.
Rooting your phone voids the "warranty" only. It doesn't effect the insurance you may have if you kicked up the extra cash.
just thought i'd share. but this info is good to know for the future

su stands for superuser which us the command you use to gain root access.
Root is similar to administrator access on a windows PC. It let's you have access to certain portions of the filesystem you wouldn't normally have.
CWM is a tool that comes with a great backup tool called nandroid that will allow you to backup and restore your phone roms and settings. CWM can clean and fix some things that could be wrong with your phone, allow you to flash updated, custom roms, scripts, radios, kernels, etc.

You WILL need CWR to root. If you use the search in the development thread you can find a DL for it. I would stay away from the touch version but that's just my opinion.

Ok heres my update,
I used followed the instructions from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434
I can get into CWM (non-touch) and I have the Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip on my external SD Card.
when I am in CWM and goto install zip from SDCARD, I have only the lost dir.
Why wont this file show up??? that is the question and yes I have verified the file is ON the SD Card.
thanks for all the help!!!
Ciao~
try moving everything to your internal sd card, then install from there.
I almost included that, but NO I choose internal SD
edited my post.....
now when you say everything, are you just talking about the superuser file? becasue that is the only item I have on the External SD Card.....and yes I did use external SD card...but will try using the internal now.

You should have two options in CWM...to choose zip from SD card and external SD card. Just navigate to external.
Make sure it says choose zip and not update.

OK so what u need to do is this u can do it one of two ways A) u can use Odin to flash a custom recovery such as twrp or cwm, then use that recovery and flash the superSu.zip until it says its installed, to do this u need to place the zip file in the root of ur sdcard that means directly on ur internal sd, not in a folder, then flash from there, this is of course if u want to stay on ur stock rom and root it... Or u can do it the easy way and B) use Odin to flash a custom recovery such as twrp ( I reccomend twrp as it's more user friendly) then flash an already rooted custom ROM of ur choice, obtaining root on this device is very easy, I suggest B as its a lot easier for a new user to just Odin the recovery to the phone then flash a ROM...let me know if u need help I'll do he best I can

I don't know what I'm doing

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a pickle.. I've never flashed a ROM on the EVO 4G before. On the Epic 4G Touch I have many times.
Well, I wanted to flash this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1865660 and followed the instructions from Step 1. However since I partitioned my SD card and erased everything, I can't boot into anything to put the ROM back onto the SD card!
Is there another way?
I've already rooted my phone, have S-OFF, and I have a recovery.
You should be able to access your SD card through your recovery. Boot into your bootloader, go to recovery, plug your phone into PC, transfer your ROM to your phone and flash

Yes I went into the recovery and found an option called USB-MS toggle to put the ROM back onto the SD card. So I did that and I flashed it and followed the rest of the instructions.
Ah, this has been an adventure. Although I still find flashing and rooting easier on the E4GT, I think I'll get the hang of it. :good:

[Q] custom rom installation - copy zip to sd card?

I am a bit confused about the process for installing a custom rom as the guides that i've read say to copy the roms zip file to the Nexus' sd card - but it doesn't have one! Where should I copy the zip file to then?
Cheers.

The internal memory is often referred to as the sdcard. If copying the rom from your PC, your 'sdcard' is what Windows will see. If you're downloading direct to your Nexus it will probably end up in the Download folder.

Thanks mrew42, that clears that up!
I'm thinking the Towelroot method would be the most straight forward to gain root access but am a bit unsure about the installation sequence for a custom rom afterwards, given that a lot of the guides deal with the earlier methods of rooting. Sorry for the newb questions but the last time I was on this site I was flashing roms to my dell axim....its grown quite a bit here since then!
