Here is a guide on upgrading an Axim X51v to WM 6.1, or WM 6.5.
This was originally posted on Mobilism.
NEEDED: Axim X51v (duh), PC (I don't have a mac and I am clueless about them) spare SD card (Min. 128 MB), SD card reader, charger (connected to cradle or via port, doesn't matter), and PATIENCE.
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if you brick your Axim. Use caution.
1. Get a ROM. Links are attached to this post (because the forum will not let me put links in my post >.<)
2. Extract the ROM to the Desktop. You will need to install WinRar, which I've posted a link to. Drag the 2 files in the box that show up after clicking on the RAR file.
3. Now, put the SD card into the reader and plug it in.
4. Go to My Computer, (Computer in Vista and 7), find Removable Disk (or whatever you named it) right click it and click Format.
5. When you get a box that is labeled: "Format Removable Disk" (or whatever you named it), under "File system", select "FAT32".
6. Click 'Start" (on the box), then click "OK" again.
7. Wait.
8. When you get the box that says "Format Complete", Click "OK".
9. Go to My Computer, (Computer in Vista and 7), find Removable Disk (or whatever you named it) and open it.
10. Find the .nb0 and nb0_.crc files on your Desktop (that you extracted earlier) and drag them to the SD card.
11. Eject the drive. (Right click on the drive in Computer and click Eject)
12. Place the SD card into the Axim and do a Hard Reset. (Hard Reset by holding the Power button. While holding down the Power button, use the stylus to push the reset hole and then release BOTH. Then, press the Contacts button.)
13. Go into the SD Bootloader by holding down the Power button and the Wireless button. While doing that, use the stylus to push the reset hole. After pushing the reset hole, keep the Power and Wireless buttons pressed.
14. You should get a blue bar at the top of your screen that says "SD Image Update A10_G*" (* for any number.) If you do, go on to the next step, if not, go back to step 13.
15. When the black bar with white letters show up, press the button in the center of the D-Pad twice.
16. Wait.
17. When it says "Update Complete, please do hard reset", do a hard reset. (Hard Reset by holding the Power button. While holding down the Power button, use the stylus to push the reset hole and then release BOTH. Then, press the Contacts button.)
18. Enjoy WM 6.1 goodness!!!
Oh yes, and if for some reason you don't like WM 6.1, I've made an A12 ROM (Original Dell).
This looks very similar to my X50 unbricking guides sticky over at Aximsite. I would like to inform you that this is not new information.
Anyway, you forgot to mention the part about checking the crc address in the nb0 file before you transfer the files to the SD card. For that, you just download the crc calculator and run it with the nb0, and then check to see if what the crc calculator spits out is the same as what's in the crc file. If not, than copy the value from the crc calculator to the crc file and save the crc file.
I would also like to mention that this process can be done on MAC OS X, but you have to mess with a partitioner to do it.

dear ladies and gents,
i am new to this forum; i have been using my xda2 for 2 years now and i am more or less up to speed on the how to's. but i have a question on upgrading to wm2005. i deeply apologize if this topic has been discussed before and now here i am again bringing it up...but hear me out first.
i have downloaded ALL the files needed to upgrade to wm2005; the roms (version c) from buzz.net, the ramdisk, doctools, even the skins. so far i know only the following steps (i got this from xda2jojo's downloads). everything.
--------------------
5. Start your device in bootloader mode by pressing and holding down:
DPad + PowerButton + ResetButton
After a second release ResetButton, then release the rest of them.
Your screen will show word "Serial" at the top.
You are in bootloader mode now.
6. Place your device in the cradle, ensuring that the cradle
is plugged directly into a USB port on your PC and not to a hub
and that the power supply is connected to the cradle.
It is also a good idea to disable any screensavers on your desktop PC.
Once your device is cradled, the text on the screen will change to "USB".
7. Run HimaUpgradeUt.exe
8. Sit back and wait for the Congratulations screen to be displayed
on your PC. Your device will still be displaying 'Upgrading radio stack, please wait',
but as long as the PC says it is done, then its all OK.
9. Detach your device from the cradle.
10. Now you have to hardreset your device.
Press ResetButton and hold down CameraButton + RecordButton.
Hold them pressed until the "Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.
Select the options as follows:
(for selecting use RecordButton, change values with CameraButton)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
When done, press DPad and wait until OS starts.
-----------------------
i have successfully done this already but the storage is low. i have done reading and browsing on expanding the storage to 30-plus mb using ramdisk and the doctools. i would like to ask for assistance on how to use these. i read in this forum that you have to use doctools first? it is a little confussing.
please advise how to use these 2 tools together with the steps mentioned above.
again i apologize in advance because i know that this topic has been discussed so much.

you need to (got this from the forum):
1. Downgrade to WM2003SE (2.06 ROM) via PC method
BUT if you're already running WM2003SE then you don't need to do step one. But at the very least I think your ROM should be 2003SE.
2. Install Extended_ROM Unlocker
3. Unlock the Extended_ROM (but don't click unhide)
4. Copy the Hima_DOC_Tool.exe to the Temp folder on the device
5. Run the Hima_DOC_Tool.exe
6. Perform a soft reset only (not hard reset)
7. Checked the new size (30.07M
8. Upgraded to WM2005 (1.60b.96) via PC method
it worked for me. you may want to also refer to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28801
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=42
these will more or less answer other concerns you might have.
in my case i didn't use ramdisk...but it worked well for me and i'm still using wm2005.
cheers

IT WORKED!
Thank you very, very much for your post! After some experimentation I was finally able to solve the storage problem based on the guide you gave me!

Is it possible to flash a ROM Image from an SD Card like the Hermes?
It is possible!
Thanks for everyones help, but I figured it out. Flash is possible on the dash from the SD Card. Now I just need that wm6 rom and I'll be in business.
How did you do it?
In the same way described here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
What .nbh file did you use? The one extracted from Original-Dash-ROM?
Can you save the SD-Card on PC with psdwrite/psdread?
Thanks in advance for sharing your know-how
Flash from SD using original TMO rom
This is what I did:
1. OPEN RUU_Excalibur.exe with an archiver and extract files to temporary directory (the file we want is the EXCAIMG*.nbh)
2. Format SD card using FAT32
3. Insert SD card into phone
4. Connect using ActiveSync
5. Rename nbh file to "EXCAIMG.nbh"
6. Copy EXCAIMG.nbh to SD card
7. Disconnect phone
8. Start Manual Bootloader (hold camera key for three seconds and press power button)
9. After quick messages (checking sd card, etc.) you should get "Update SD image? Press power button to download" screen with countdown in bottom corner
10. After timeout you will go to color bars UI
Exit bootloader: hold camera key, wait three seconds and hold down power key also until phone turns off
My phone is not unlocked, so I didn't test with other roms.
but excalibur has no camera key

SD Flash WM5 works SD Flash WM6 doesn't?
Ok, using the extracted nbh file from the original WM5 Dash ROM, I perform the following operations using the command prompt under windows:
1. Format SD card (FAT32)
2. Rename nbh file to EXCAIMG.nbh
3. copy EXCAIMG.nbh to blank SD card
4. copy any additional files to SD card (cabs, homescreens, ringtones, etc...)
5. Insert SD card into phone and power on while holding down the two softkeys
This method allows me to flash the phone back to WM5, but when using the nbh file from the WM6 Test ROM it will not work. Can anyone tell me why? WM6 -> WM5 works, but WM5-> WM6 doesn't. Is it the bootloader (same or downgrade only) or is it the signing of the ROM, could it be something else I'm missing?
Standard T-Mobile Dash (Not CID/SIM Unlocked)
I don't find on wiki how to flash a ROM Image from an SD Card to MDA Vario (Wizard). Can you help me?
Is the .nbh file talked about the bootloader only (~1.5 MB file) or the entire ROM image (~36 MB)?

is there anyway to boot from an SD card that doesn't require the use of the power button? Mine is broken and the rom seems corrupt on my phone.
can i ask why you would load the rom from an SD card when you state "connect to active sync"? if you have a computer there, that the phone is connected to, why not just use it to flash the rom?

Because my power button is broken and I can barely get the phone into bootloader. While in bootloader, active sync will not connect to the phone so I can flash it via my computer. Thats why I was wondering if I coud flash thru the SD card.

Thanks mate, your info above saved my unlocked athena (X7500) on which I had flashed a wm6.5 ROM which was faulty, and had completely taken over my athena, and refused to flash any other roms.
I have now reflashed with original rom before I try to flash other roms again.
Thanks once again.
PS. The last step does not work with Athena, what works is to simply do a soft reset by inserting the stylus into the reset hole.
helpp
does this only work with the original rom becasue i tries and it said invailid cerfiticate
I've done all the steps, but I still can't enter bootloader.I'm holding camera key for 3s,and then I press the POWER buttons while still holding camera key,but the phone start normally.Could anyone show me how to enter bootloader ? More clearly

Keep trying, you are probably holding too much time the power button.

To enter bootloader
Remove the batery
Put batery
Press & holding camera buttom
Connect Cable USB PC to Phone...
THANK GOD! I found a way back to bring it back. The info was buried in hundreds pages in threads so I'll bring to the front on how I revived my Axim x50v.
1st: Make sure the battery is charged all the way. When it is on the cradle the Power button should be green not red.
2nd: Make sure you have your SD card reformatted to Fat 32.
3rd: Make sure you have this update your PDA to A01 Windows Mobile 5 ROM. http://rapidshare.com/files/53847340/AximX50v_WM5_A01_EN.rar CREDIT TO MAGLITE.
4rd: When you unrar the file. The four following files should read like this:
WM50_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0
WM50_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc
WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0
WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc
You need to rename them as the following:
DiMa_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0
DiMa_B_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc
WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0
WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc
5th: After the files are renamed, put the sd card back into the Axim x50v
6th: Hold the RECORD + POWER Buttons down and then tap the reset button. After the taping of the reset button do not let go of the RECORD + POWER buttons.
7th: When the diagnostic screen pops up, hold the WIRELESS + POWER buttons and tap the RESET button. AGAIN< DO NOT LET GO OF THE WIRELESS & RESET BUTTON. The screen will show up again to reflash the rom with the file on the sd card. Press the action button twice and you are on your way to WM5 AO1.
IMPORTANT SO AS NOT TO REBRICK THE AXIM X50v AGAIN!!!
Ignore the hard reset message and press wireless-power-reset once the Axim loaded the new rom.
Thanks

Hi,
I tried to use your suggestion to reflash my X50v, but it still failed. I can success go into the diagnostic screen. However when I tried to hard reset(Wireless+Power+reset button) my X50v to load the Image loader, the X50v will hang up and blank screen. I tried to do many times but still failed. Do you have any suggestion or experience to solve it?
My X50v previous version 2003SE A05
Thanks
Following the instrcutions tp flash back to WM:rename RUU_Signed.nbh to KAISimg.nbh and place it on your SD card along with KAISDIAG.NBH. Place the SD into your Kaiser and hold the Power button and camera button down, then take your stylus and hit the reset button.", after I pressed the power button again, tri-color screen changed to a whie screen with "Loading..." showing. There was no progress bar below as usual. After about 5 minutes, I reset it, Kaiser runs android system well: I can even install a new anroid system. Just can't flash any NBH file, even Android small NBH file. Tried with a newly formarted fat32 card also. It always stop at "Loading.. " screen.
Anyboby can help me?

I have never used the stylus reset to flash nbh. (good thing too because I broke it long before switching to android)
just holding the camera button while powering on gets me to the tri-color and then a white screen telling to press power button again to flash.
2nd
I have had freeze-ups on that screen while "loading" and it is usually because of a bad/corrupt nbh file or not making sure all caps in file name KAISIMG.NBH
just a thought...

Tried with KAISIMG.NBH, nothing different!
Anyway, Thanks!
Try clearing everything on the sdcard and leaving only the KAISIMG.nbh and remove the diag file too.
You should have one file (KAISIMG.nbh) on your sd.
NOTE: If the phone is off you only need to hold the camera and press the power button. If the phone is on just hold the camera and press the reset button. There's no need to hold the reset AND power button.
Since you can access the bootloader there is another way to flash, by USB.
You will need to do a little preparation.
If using XP disable Activesync by going to connection settings and uncheck 'Allow USB Connection'.
Then make a temporary folder somewhere handy, I usually use c:\flashtmp, but anything is good.
In this folder goes KaiserCustomRUU.exe, and the NBH renamed to RUU_Signed.NBH.
Once you have all this, put kaiser in Bootloader, it should say Serial at the bottom, attach the USB Lead, and wait until it say USB at the bottom, then run KaiserCustomRUU.exe and follow the instructions.
You should be able to flash Radio, splash, or OS with this method.
i usually do it the way zenity describes...its easier for me to keep up with all of my nbh
the few times i did it from SD i DID NOT have kaisdiag.nbh...other threads said it was unnecessary, so maybe its even bad
btw everyone i found that KaiserCustomRUU.exe will take a nbh named anything as long as its the only one in the DIR. found this by forget full accident
One thing zenity forgot to mention was that you need to remove kaisimg.nbh from your sd before putting into bootloader. Or just remove your sd

you can techically leave it there. in spl there is the option to not load the .nbh...after selecting that you can plug in USB like normal
Ah yes, I did forget the removal of the SD card, it may not be necessary in this case, but generally it's a better practice, saves confusion.
Didn't know about customRUU accepting any NBH though, always good to learn things
Regarding KAISdiag, I have never used it, so leaving it out is safe, in fact I'd only use it as a last resort for bad flashes or problems that require it.

I noticed that my SPL is SPL-3.34.0000, instead of SPL-3.34.0000. May it is beacause I flashed stock rom befored. How can I flash Hardspl in android system. I don't know how to copy jumpspl.exe to kaiser in android system.
You should be able to flash a stock winmo rom using the above method, since stock does not need HardSPL.

right now i am in kind of truble cuz i did hard reset after to get back into windows mobile and i am stuck in newpan telecom screen white screen
cant get my phone back up online
please help!!!
I'm not sure what you mean??? Have you flashed an android NBH (kernel) to your phone or are you trying android from sd card using haret? If you have already flashed an android nbh then doing a hard reset won't work because windows isn't in NAND anymore so there is nothing to restore. You will need to get a windows mobile nbh from the windows mobile section of the forum and put it on the root of your sd card and rename it to KAISIMG.NBH. You then need to hold down the camera button and power button together and the phone should turn on and go to the tri-colour screen where it will ask you if you want to flash your phone, press the power button and when it says it is complete reset the phone using your stylus. In terms of your problems getting into the install screen so you can install android, have you tried holding down the centre button on the dpad, or once the writing has started scrolling hold down the centre of the touchscreen should also work.
hey thanks for replay i worked from this menu :
#1 Does your Kaiser already have HardSPL? If not then get that done. Recommended to install 3.34 HardSPL.
#2 Does your Kaiser have a relatively new radio rom? If not then get one. Recommended to have 1.70.xx.xx and up.
#3 You don't need to SIM unlock you Kaiser, but it's a nice and easy precaution. Download KaiserUnlocker.exe to unlock your SIM. If you've already flashed your phone with Android, you'll need to flash back Windows Mobile 6.1. Go to the end of this post and it'll explain how to flash back to Windows Mobile. Bellow, you can see how easy the application works. Make sure your Kaiser is synced with your PC and follow steps 1 through 3. This means Windows Mobile Device Center, if you don't already have it. You should already have HardSPL from step #1, but this is an easier method to get it if you haven't done it yet, and you can always upgrade to 3.34 later, as this installer installs 3.29.
#4 Install a Android kernel. You can get the latest kernel from Dzo's site. Only download the newest Kaisimg file and choose the .nbh file that fits you. For example, "panel2" is for Kaiser owners with type 2 LCD screen, and 320 is if you want 240X320 resolution. Alternatively, you can download a kernel from kallt_kaffe, as he can make some changes which might not immediately show up on DZO's site.
You'll need to edit the NBH file using Loser's NBH Editor. The tool is very simple to use. Change resolution to the desired resolution you want, HW3D to the type of Android build you're using, Panel Type to the type of LCD screen you have, and finally keyboard type to the keyboard language you use. If you need more information on what panel type is, go to this link. The older and more complicated method to edit the NBH file can be found at the very bottom of this post.
#5 When you're done editing the .nbh, save it and rename it to KAISimg.nbh and place it on you memory card. You may want to put the KAISDIAG.NBH, but I've found it not necessary.
#6 Place the SD into your Kaiser and hold the Power button and camera button down, then take your stylus and hit the reset button. Follow the instructions on the screen to flash your Kaiser. When flashing is done, reset the device with your stylus. Make sure you see the confirmation that it is done.
!!WARNING ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE WILL BE LOST!!
If the above method doesn't work, you can try this suggestion below.

#7 Download your favorite Android build. I use Incubus26Jc's Super Eclair, but you can use anyone you want. Only Donut builds like Myn's Warm Donut has everything working 100% on the Kaiser. Eclair builds are currently missing Camera and BT audio.
#8 On your SD card make a folder called andboot and place the androidinstall.tar file in there. It could also be called androidinstall.tgz. You may have to change settings in Windows to see extensions.
#9 Place the SD card in your phone and power on your Kaiser. When you see text on your screen hold down the D-pad. D-pad is that button in the center of your up, down, left, right buttons. Keep holding down the D-pad until you see something like this appear on your screen.
#10 Select sys on NAND, then data on NAND. Once done then select Install system and wait for it to finish. Once it's done select quit and it'll begin booting into Android.
right now i tryed to flash back to windows mobile with KAISIMG.NBH KAISDIAG.NBH
in sd card but the kaiser is restarting every 5 sec
damn i think i lost my phone
Have you got into the tri-colour screen yet? If not then pull your battery out and put it back in. Hold down the camera button while you press the power button and this should take you to the tri-colour screen which will detect the KAISIMG.NBH on the root of your sdcard. If you do not go to the tri-colour screen you have either not pressed both buttons simultaneously (i.e. pressed power before camera) or you have a hardware failure. Nothing that you have flashed will effect the tri-colour screen as this is hard coded onto the mainboard and cannot be overwritten.
