Is it possible to tweak the default messaging settings so that messages longer than 1 (not 5 - as being set by default) SMS would be automatically converted into MMS?

Hi folks,
The native text messaging app on Android automatically converts long text messages to MMS - is there a way to disable this? I'm currently using Handcent SMS as a workaround, and I don't mind since it's an immensely more powerful messaging app, but I still want to be able to write long text messages in the native one without having them turned into MMS (which I have to pay for).
Where I live, text messages can be 16000 chars. The native messaging app seems to only allow 480. Any ideas?
I'd love 16000 characters as default. In the UK it's a rubbish 160 characters. I'm often averaging 300 characters.
Handcent SMS working good.. which is better handcent or chomp?
I've installed SMS Popup so that I get notifications when I receive text messages.
Now the issue is that I've intalled ChompSMS alongside the standard messaging app, which means that when a text message arrives, I actually get two pop up boxes: one from ChompSMS and one from the default app.
Is there any way to stop this? Can I 'assign' SMS Popup just to work for one of the messaging systems?
Cheers,
SMS Popup, like ChompSMS and the default Messaging client will only intercept incoming SMS messages once.
You need to make sure you have notifications disabled in ChompSMS AND the Default messaging client if you are using SMS Popup.
how do you set default sms options?
on my other phones (WM6 and symbian) i've always set sms receive confirmation as a default messaging options
so far on the defy i've found only the option to set is on the current message, but not as a default option for all messages
how do i stop sms converting to mms on samsung galaxy Nexus.?
in the messaging app settings, make sure it splits the texts if over 160 characters.
I was wondering if it's possible to convert all outgoing & incoming text messages into MMS. It's usually converted in group messages and I want to know if it could be done for regular messages too. I'm on T-Mobile if that makes a difference.
