Hi folks,
The native text messaging app on Android automatically converts long text messages to MMS - is there a way to disable this? I'm currently using Handcent SMS as a workaround, and I don't mind since it's an immensely more powerful messaging app, but I still want to be able to write long text messages in the native one without having them turned into MMS (which I have to pay for).
Where I live, text messages can be 16000 chars. The native messaging app seems to only allow 480. Any ideas?
I'd love 16000 characters as default. In the UK it's a rubbish 160 characters. I'm often averaging 300 characters.
Handcent SMS working good.. which is better handcent or chomp?
I've installed SMS Popup so that I get notifications when I receive text messages.
Now the issue is that I've intalled ChompSMS alongside the standard messaging app, which means that when a text message arrives, I actually get two pop up boxes: one from ChompSMS and one from the default app.
Is there any way to stop this? Can I 'assign' SMS Popup just to work for one of the messaging systems?
Cheers,
SMS Popup, like ChompSMS and the default Messaging client will only intercept incoming SMS messages once.
You need to make sure you have notifications disabled in ChompSMS AND the Default messaging client if you are using SMS Popup.
Is it possible to have group text messages like in iPhone. I tried Google hangout but it is sending SMS as MMS and I hate that
I want to SMS to go as a SMS and all the conversation should be threaded.
Is this possible or not yet ?

I'm using a Verizon HTC One M8 and have recently noticed that whenever I send a group text in the Messages app it sends as SMS to each individual instead of an MMS to the group. When I access any thread with multiple people the phone says "Converting to MMS message..." I've checked through the settings to ensure "Group conversation" is enabled and I'm not exactly sure what the Connection settings should be but I have the following...
Name: MMS
MMSC: http:/mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS proxy: (not set)
MMS port: (not set)
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
Strangely enough if I integrate SMS into Google Hangouts then I can send group texts just fine, but I would rather use the Messages app since having texts in Hangouts is pretty messy.
When sending from the Messages app I've noticed an icon of 2 people next to any text where it's supposed to be a group text. If I send a group text from Hangouts and then go back to Messages the icon isn't there. Then there's also the message details and when the 2-people icon is there the phone numbers goes to Cc: instead of the To: field.
Any feedback and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

While that's a valid workaround it's not a solution to my problem.
I have tested Textra and it acts similarly to Hangouts in the sense that MMS messages are "unstable" even when I have strong signal strength or if I'm on WiFi. The messages will either send immediately (rarely) or they will linger for a while before sending or linger and fail to send at all.
I was wondering if it's possible to convert all outgoing & incoming text messages into MMS. It's usually converted in group messages and I want to know if it could be done for regular messages too. I'm on T-Mobile if that makes a difference.
