ok, has anyone else noticed this problem,
sometimes i switch my phone off to save battery and it will switch itself on in my pocket so i need to check every now and then to see if it is really off, however, the only way to switch the screen on is with the power button so if my phone was really off then i have to let it start up and switch it off all over again.
i'm going to have a look for a way to remap the buttons without root as i cant get unrevoked to work and i cant be bothered to go about it the long way
hmm im not sure if this is the same issue, but sometimes the keys on my desire are on with the screen being turned off, im not sure if it happens on its own or what, not a big deal really

I noticed this, it is very annoying!
What ROM are you using? I use DeFrost 2.3 and you can bring the phone out of standby by pushing the trackball button. A second push unlocks the phone.
I dont understand this. If the phone is on, a single short press of the power button will light the screen. If it's off, it needs a long press to turn it back on - therefore it's pretty easy to tell the difference

Mine is unmodified and i'm not planning on changing that until HTC stops issuing updates. Sounds like a good feature though, bit of an oversight on the phone that.

Careful, it may burn the LED out if you keep it constantly on.
rofl. this burn stuff is constantly floating aroung and is still crap.
why do you think, they enable the led while charging? because it is likely to burn?
who ever brought that up .......

I agree, I think the only LED to be worried about having on for long periods of time is the SUPER BRIGHT Camera Flash LED. It's obviously a different LED than the charging/notification ones, and snudel makes sense when he says that it's enabled while charging.
snudel, do you have a link for this blue LED app? I don't even think I've ever seen the blue LED on my Desire glow, but it would be neat to have it lit when the phone is "awake".
Cheers!
you can download a blue led app here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700418&highlight=blue+led
but don't know if this is the one that snudel uses (i think not)

Hi folks, I've had my phone for two weeks, can't really seem to find any documentation on this, but the hang up/power button always seems to be lit up red. I'm not sure if the light is bleeding through, or if the rest simply are not as bright, but the back, start menu, and dial buttons seem to be lit all the time too, regardless of the situation unless off.
I'm assuming everyone else sees this too?
This was something I liked about my Touch Pro, very minnimal. I sort of miss the gentle swoosh of the d-pad on a reminder event, or when charging.
Any thoughts?
what about pressing enter?
Actually none of my buttons at the bottom light up when the device is on unless I hit one of the 4 buttons. Then they only stay lit for about 5 seconds before all going off again.
Ohh, I thought that was odd. Staying on for 5 seconds would make a lot more sense..
Enter? You mean on the keyboard?
Anyone else on a Telus Touch Pro2, can you confirm whether the four bottom buttons stay lit all the time?
Oh, now it turns out it looks like the three left buttons stay dim, but still on, unless one is pressed, but then they dim after 5 seconds or so like mentioned, but the hangup button is always bright red.
I also have the telus touch pro 2 and I have the same problem, I think its just the power/hang up button that stays on but I know what you mean about the light bleeding through to the other bottem buttons as well, I have been searching for a solution to this problem since I got it and have had no luck.
I returned the phone for another NEW one since it was DOA. Both HTC and Telus agreed. That is not a normal operation for the phone to do that, but it's odd that two are doing it.
It gave me a noticably better battery life too, so get on top of that replacement right away. The replacement phone works perfectly.
Ya my battery life hasn't been great and I thought that could be a large factor in it, so I will try to get it replaced then if thats not a normal function of the phone.

Exactly. I thought the same thing. When actually working properly, it has a long battery life for a phone like that. Significantly longer than my touch pro, which is even more than the p4000
Did you set HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/power/batpoweroff to 0, and not 180?

The one I have now that works is set to 0. Not sure about the one that I had that was having the issue.
Hey guys I was wondering if there was a simple way to solve this problem.
For some reason when i press the power key or just open up my phone my screen wont come on. I have to pay around with it a few times to actually make the screen come on. Has any1 else had this issue? If so how did you fix it?
Im using standard firmware, noting custom on my phone at all.
I don't get it man, you say you do press the power button and it doesn't come on? when I first got my Tmo TP2, I was baffled at how to get it on, but just pressing the power button at the top once was the only way to do it for me..maybe you're holding it down to long when you press? I'm not sure..did you do the upgrade to Tmo's official 6.5??

What about when you pull the stylus out when the screen is off? Same delay? If so, then the source of the issue is related to the phone's response, not the switch method (top button, slide switch, stylus switch).
Im using the updated window 6.5 and im not holding the power button to long. IDK whats wrong with it. As for when i pull the stylus out, i never really used that method to make my screen come on. I just tried it adn it worked. but im not sure if it will continue to work. I will use just that method for hear on out to see.

Yeah, I never really use it that way much (if ever)...but that's probably the best way for now to try to isolate the issue
Ive tried the stylus thing for a while now and like the power button it doesnt work all the time. Im not sure if the phone is just broke what.
Install process manager and list what processes and applications you are running...
Everytime I boot my phone up, it works fine up until when the screen goes into sleep mode. Once it goes into sleep mode I cannot turn the screen back on, it stays black. The keyboard, end and answer key lights show up when I press the power button but the screen just stays black no matter what button I press.
I end up having to either take the battery out or using the stick to press the reset button on the side in order to get the phone to where I can see the screen again. I have adjusted the settings to where the screen doesnt go into sleep mode and the screen just stays on but that drains my battery. I want to be able to have my screen go off so I can save power but if it goes off it wont come on again until I reboot.
I have done a hard reset. This problem started happening to me when I started using the Energy Rom but I've even flashed different Roms and the problem still exist.
Somebody please tell me what's wrong! I need help! This is a big annoying problem to have. Thanks.
is this problem occurring when you slide the keyboard out?
i had the t-mobile touch pro2 with this problem.
the screen would die when the keyboard was out and not come back.
if this is the case, what i did was...
well. obviously not open the keyboard fully.
but if i accidentally had.
instead of pulling out the battery, i waited...
till the screen 'naturally' went to sleep.
than i would pull out the stylus or press power button
and the screen would come on.

Yes the problem still exist even when I slide the keyboard out. Once the screen goes off, that's it....pressing the power button to get it out of sleep mode, sliding the keyboard, I press all buttons and nothing works. The only thing that "works" to get the screen back on is removing the battery or using the stylus to press the reset button.
When sliding the keyboard out the keys light up but the screen doesn't come on, also pressing the power button lights up the end and answer keys without the screen coming on.

so. whenever the screen goes out, period, you cant get it back?
or the screen goes out and cant get it back once you slide the keyboard out?
if it is only when sliding out the keyboard...
try not opening the keyboard fully on the right side.

Yes, period. Also, you know when you put your face to the phone during a call and the screen goes off so your face wont press anything on the screen? It doesn't come back on from that either once I end the phone call, it just stays black. I'm assuming you don't have any other suggestions. This Sucks

This has to be a software issue but I don't know where to start. I'm surprised nobody else has encountered this problem. I've grown frustrated of this issue because I don't understand why it's doing this. I have had the phone for almost 6 months only dropping it once 4 months ago and it wasn't a strong damaging drop that would affect anything inside. I guess I'll just have to go last resort and call warranty to swap the phone out. Thanks for the help.

My phone also dos not come back on, when I put it in out the sreen with the power button on top, or when the phone goes to sleep. Nothing can put it back on(opening te keyboard, pulling out the stylis, presing the answer-, windows-, back- and end button). I and up using a music players too keep the phone busy what's makes it operational. Cant really remember when this started happening exactly. My phone is at the moment loaded with a standard ROM. I used too have a custom ROM.
My TP2 does this too, although I only encounter the problem sometimes when someone calls. I answer and put the phone next to my ear, the screen goes black as it should and the phone just dies. I can't hear what the other person is saying and the screen wont turn on anymore. I have to take out the battery to reboot.
set light sensor to manual in settings. You have some bad or fragmented code causing the problem. Pretty common actually, many different reasons, but usually either a bad light or proximity sensor or software issue. Setting the sensor to manual should do it, if not, hard reset and allow the phone to fully set up before touching it, to allow full customization process to complete. Search my posts on SOD (sleep of death) for more information.
Funny this was brought up. Now im worried I just dropped 250.00 and have a new one coming.
Mine started with the ear piece quit working. couldnt hear anything except on speaker.
Anyway I started having the screen issue over a month ago, only way to get it back was soft reset with the stylus. Also when the screen was lit, I couldn't hit the power button to turn the screen off. At times the screen would be on 24/7 and I just dealt with it. The times when it decieded to go to sleep was when I needed the soft reset. Well long story short I forgot my charger one day at work and the battery died. after pressing the power button for hours with no response, moving the screen in all diffrent directions as I pressed the button. It came on once after hrs of messing with it. Well today it died again and I am fed up with it so out came the tools. Once I opened it up I noticed the ribbon that feeds the screen from the mother board was worn and torn. the ribbon slides everytime the keyboard is slid out and it rubs on both sides of the phone. I thought maybe mine was just a fluke and was installed wrong considering the phone being 10 months old but now I read this and see maybe its a common problem. The cheapest I could find the Ribbon was 56.00 so I didnt want to chance it not being the issue.
Is there an option to stop it turning itself on when the chargers pluged in and unpluged?
turn on to android or recovery?
the phone screen turns on when i plug and unplug the charger, would just like to disable this if possible
the phone is on, screen off.
and you plug it to charger and the screen is on?
if it is, go to:
menu-settings-applications-development.
see the box of the "stay awake"
yep that what im on about, but the box is unticked, and ticking it makes no difference?
hmm, you can try mark it, restart the phone, and unmark and restart.
done, but still the same?

That would stop the screen to turn off while charging, not prevent it from turning on. I think there is no way to stop this.
if he set a time out for the screen, the scree supposed to go off.
in this position, the next thing is the "stay awake".
when stay awake is marked, the screen stay on when he connected to charger.
if the stay awake is not marked, the screen need to proceed like he set in the time out.
which rom do you have?
if you have a custom one, you can ask the creator.
you can use the power button to close the screen manually.

fair comment , just reread your op and realised it's not the recovery whilst charging issue your having, but phone turning on when plugging in, yes?
yep, not doing no fancy flashing roms or rooting stuff just yet, just simple stuff like trying to get the phone to charge without it automatically waking up the screen

You are having a different problem. He is taking about how the phone wakes up when it is on and you unplug it from the charger.
I have the same problem but not sure if its a problem or a feature.
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
I screwed up.
I was installing yet another new screen on my phone, and I must have damaged the sensor that dims and brightens your phone. Somehow.
The problem is everything on the phone works, except when I make a phone call. Then the screen turns off and will not turn back on unless I take the battery out. This makes me think the sensor still thinks the phone is held up to my head. None of the buttons work, no matter how much I press them or no matter how long I wait to press them.
I don't know what to replace, otherwise I could likely solve the problem on my own, but I think this issue could be solved on the software side fairly simple.
Could anyone recommend an App (or maybe a ROM.. but that limits me) that disables that stupid head detection? I can not find it in settings either.

I had a similar problem to this once but it was related to a kernel. When id take the phone away from my head the screen would stay off and not come back on until i would swipe my finger back and forth over the proximity sensor a couple times. The dev of the kernel Tiny figured out the issue and fixed it in his next release. Kind of sounds software related but hard to tell. If it does need replacing its called the "CM3602 Proximity sensor - 0.5mA by Capella Microsystems". I believe this part acts as both the proximity and light sensor. Does your screen still dim and brighten when set on auto brightness? There is an app on the market called "Proximity screen off" but i cant figure out how to get it to work, mabey you can.
I actually found a simple way to dissable it. Add the line below anywhere in your build.prop
Code:
gsm.proximity.enable=false
I verified that it does work.

I have resorted to that very same app and I can't figure out what to do with it either.
And when I make a phone call, the phone simply stays off ... forever. I can still hear voice mail and all that stuff. I need to take out the battery and power the phone back up after ANY call...
I am pretty sure I know what I did to break it, but I rather fix it software wise if someone could explain what to do. I'll fiddle with that app a little more.

I did that, it didn't work. Can it be at the very bottom of the build.prop?
edit: Tried again, it just simply disables all the buttons.
I had this issue once before and it was because I had the sensor covered with a piece of double sided tape. But this time I fear I just straight up damaged the sensor somehow while repairing the screen.
What works:
EVERYTHING!
What doesn't work:
I dial someone or they dial me and if I answer the phone, meaning I enter into a phone call, the screen goes dark and every button is disabled.
Let me try everyone now while I have it in this mode:
1. Power button
2. Volume up and down
3. home
4. menu
5. back
6. search
7. trackball
Only way to get back into home screen is to take out the battery.
Ugh, I wish I had just been more careful. If I can't fix this with software I might have to suck it up and live with this giant pain in the ass until my upgrade time
The build.prop edit worked for me, and it didnt dissable any buttons. The edit can be anywhere in the file as long as its on it own line. Did you remember to mount system r/w first, and to save the file after editing? Are you rooted and s-off?

I think so for all that. How do I double check s-off?
Also, I found a way to get the buttons to come back on after I enter a phone call or the phone call ends.
Simply plug the phone into a power charger, because that always wakes my phone up. But other than that I can't find a way and that is useless to me out in the "field".

You can see if your s-off by booting into hboot. Pull the battery reinsert and then hold volume down and power untill a white screen appears. The end of the first line should say either s-off ot s-on.

Download and flash this thru recovery like you would a rom or mod. http://dinc.does-it.net/dissable_proximity.zip It should dissable it for you. The first boot may take longer than normal as it also clears the cache and dalvik-cache, so be patient.
I figured out how to use that app Proximity Screen Off, but it wont help you in your situation. What it does is allow you to turn on and off the screen by holding your finger over the proximity sensor for a configurable ammount of time. Basicly created to prevent wear on the power button. I kind of like it, especially since i think my power button is wearing out. Despite cleaning it it tends to stick sometimes.
