Is there an option to stop it turning itself on when the chargers pluged in and unpluged?
turn on to android or recovery?
the phone screen turns on when i plug and unplug the charger, would just like to disable this if possible
the phone is on, screen off.
and you plug it to charger and the screen is on?
if it is, go to:
menu-settings-applications-development.
see the box of the "stay awake"
yep that what im on about, but the box is unticked, and ticking it makes no difference?
hmm, you can try mark it, restart the phone, and unmark and restart.
done, but still the same?

That would stop the screen to turn off while charging, not prevent it from turning on. I think there is no way to stop this.
if he set a time out for the screen, the scree supposed to go off.
in this position, the next thing is the "stay awake".
when stay awake is marked, the screen stay on when he connected to charger.
if the stay awake is not marked, the screen need to proceed like he set in the time out.
which rom do you have?
if you have a custom one, you can ask the creator.
you can use the power button to close the screen manually.

standard original rom, 1.39.110.1
basically, when i put the phone from my pocket into my car dock thats hard wired, it turns the screen on. Simple solution press the power button to turn it off again, same when i remove the phone from the dock it turns the screen on, again the power button sorts it, but its a PITA !
never had this issue with previous HTCs, none being android tho?

fair comment , just reread your op and realised it's not the recovery whilst charging issue your having, but phone turning on when plugging in, yes?
yep, not doing no fancy flashing roms or rooting stuff just yet, just simple stuff like trying to get the phone to charge without it automatically waking up the screen
I'm having the same problem. I would like to try the battery calibration trick i found here but it requires me to charge my phone while turned off. But whenever i plug in the charger my DHD turns on and goes into CWM menu screen. Is there a fix for this?

You are having a different problem. He is taking about how the phone wakes up when it is on and you unplug it from the charger.
I have the same problem but not sure if its a problem or a feature.

I don't know if it's a setting I somehow changed or what, my screen won't turn off if I push the power button. If the screen is LOCKED it will turn on and off with the power button, but if I am at the homescreen and try to turn it off - nothing, I have to let it turn off by whatever time I set. (one minute)
Anyone know how to fix it??
Is this happening with the USB cable connected? If so, you've set it to not turn off during charging. Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Stay awake.

I Had the same issue, I took off back cover & blew under the power button with compressed air. I works now!
ok, has anyone else noticed this problem,
sometimes i switch my phone off to save battery and it will switch itself on in my pocket so i need to check every now and then to see if it is really off, however, the only way to switch the screen on is with the power button so if my phone was really off then i have to let it start up and switch it off all over again.
i'm going to have a look for a way to remap the buttons without root as i cant get unrevoked to work and i cant be bothered to go about it the long way
hmm im not sure if this is the same issue, but sometimes the keys on my desire are on with the screen being turned off, im not sure if it happens on its own or what, not a big deal really

I noticed this, it is very annoying!
What ROM are you using? I use DeFrost 2.3 and you can bring the phone out of standby by pushing the trackball button. A second push unlocks the phone.
I dont understand this. If the phone is on, a single short press of the power button will light the screen. If it's off, it needs a long press to turn it back on - therefore it's pretty easy to tell the difference

Mine is unmodified and i'm not planning on changing that until HTC stops issuing updates. Sounds like a good feature though, bit of an oversight on the phone that.

Careful, it may burn the LED out if you keep it constantly on.
rofl. this burn stuff is constantly floating aroung and is still crap.
why do you think, they enable the led while charging? because it is likely to burn?
who ever brought that up .......

I agree, I think the only LED to be worried about having on for long periods of time is the SUPER BRIGHT Camera Flash LED. It's obviously a different LED than the charging/notification ones, and snudel makes sense when he says that it's enabled while charging.
snudel, do you have a link for this blue LED app? I don't even think I've ever seen the blue LED on my Desire glow, but it would be neat to have it lit when the phone is "awake".
Cheers!
you can download a blue led app here:

but don't know if this is the one that snudel uses (i think not)

The G3 just dropped down on the floor with the circle case. Then It was working some minutes apparently with no problem, until I myself turn the phone off and restart it. Then the device just didn't turn on. The only thing is that the screen is black and the led notification blinking green and blue
when i connect the charger, the red led blinks once and then disappears, then after 30 seconds the red led appears which apparently shows that the phone is charging the battery. Also When I connect the phone to the PC, a sound of connection is heard from PC but the PC doesn't complete the device recognition process as no new device is found.
I tried to make a hard reset, but nothing happens when I press the power and volume down keys. Tried some other tricks with the battery and the hard keys on the phone but no result at all, as the same story just repeats. Does anybody have a solution for the problem? This devise is the only android device I have

Did you do anything else after/during the time that the phone was off? And is there no possibility that you cracked the LCD digitizer? I mean it might sound strange but this is what I had with my old phone. I dropped it, nothing serious but then I put it in my pocket and upon taking it out I noticed the screen not turning on. As stated above, my digitizer was broken and multiple people told me that the digitizer had a small crack which I didn't notice, then when I put it in my pocket I put too much pressure on the digitizer cracking it. The LED-light did work though, and this sounds very similar so my advise going to the store and asking wether they know what the problem might be.
(Hopefully this was helpfull hehe)

If you Don't see the LG splash screen when pressing the power button it seems like a screen or digitizer problem for sure.
BUT;
after you try turning it "on" let it sit a few minutes and see if you can call your self or send a text to see if it makes noise vibrates etc. to confirm a screen problem.
OR
Also you can try putting it into download mode.
Battery pull (don't turn on)
plug USB into phone but not computer
Hold volume down AND then plug usb into computer
if this comes up to a pic of something on the phone it will be software related. to get out of this mode you can do a battery pull.
Remember to always read up on topics and things you are doing. There are guides here on XDA to help you out.
Hope you get your phone working

I didn't do anything special after/during the time the phone was off. I checked the screen very carefully under a lamp. No particular sign of crack. Thank you very much for sharing ur experience.:good:

Yeah... Probably it's a hardware problem. Someone who checked the phone in order to fix it, said that the problem had been with the device board. Even though I was satisfied with the phone, I have found out that the G3 is a sensitive device, as the height of the table from which it dropped down wasn't too much. So always take care of your G3 phone.
I guess the tablet isn't actually powering down, it's just going into sleep mode, or whatever it's called when the screen shuts off. Anyway, is there a way to keep this from happening when the tablet is plugged into the wall charger? It isn't a major deal but it is sort of annoying when I have something large downloading or have the tablet otherwise doing something on its own, but I'm not actively using it. I like to walk by occasionally and check in on things, but will often find that the tablet has shut off. Then I have to turn it back on, swipe the screen, or login if I have security on. Anyway, it would be much nicer if it would just stay on when plugged in. I've looked through the settings and can't seem to find anything related. If it's there, I'm missing it.
Thanks.
There are different between shut off and standby (sleep mode):
1- Shut off: Your tablet is shutdown, the only way to turn it on is power button.
2- Standby: the screen is off, you just need to press power or home button to turn the screen on in 2 seconds. In order to prevent the screen turn off so quickly, you only need to change the screen timeout to 10 or 30 minutes. If it turns off by itself, your tablet has a problem.
Mine can standby a whole week and it only loses a little charge when waking up.

There is no 30 minute screen timeout on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The most I can set it to is 10 minutes, and that's where it's at.
Thanks anyway.

we call that a screen time out... you can activate the stay awake while charging feature in developer option... how to activate developer option.... go to setting -> about device -> and press the Build Number 7 times. you will see something like developer option activate. then find the stay awake while charging option. that's all. :victory:

Super, that's exactly what I was hoping for...

I'm starting another thread.
Thanks!
I think the title describes the problem well. When I plug in the charger, the screen turns on and displays the lock screen, but then stays on forever until I press the power button to turn it off. Any possible known fix for this?

I tried to do two things, and both of them worked. One, reset the software (of course all your data and settings will be erased) and two, restore an earlier backup from TWRP. So what kept the screen on? I have no idea, probably some kind of a misbehaving app that's no longer present on my tablet.
