I used the simpleroot program and it worked except the 4g and the tethering apps.
SteelH said:
Rooted a friends phone with that simpleroot as well. I believe the issue is you need nand unlocked to get those root apps to work (I could be wrong here). However, after doing simpleroot I did toasts part 2 and wifi tether worked fine.

I think Steelh wanted you to follow toasts's steps part 2. which can be found from the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701835
That's correct, you need nand unlocked which toast's part 2 does.
After rooting, if you get a force close on the wifi tether, go to the market and download wifi tether. It should work after that.
The latest SimpleRoot, I believe, does unlock NAND. You might just need to flash the latest radio and wimax for the rom you're using.

How do I absolutely know that I've unrooted my MyTouch 3G Slide? Is there something I can check??
Followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705345
...but I want to be sure. I never flashed a new radio.
Thanks!

Do you have the Superuser app?
If not, then you're definitely unrooted.
Well that would mean the rom isn't capable of running apps that require SU. I would try running an app that would normally require su, such as setcpu or drocap just to be sure. If it doesn't work, then you're most likely unrooted.

I see people having problems with every method going. Just wanted to make sure I am not missing a thread somewhere as I can only view on phone app right now. I want to update but wont risk losing root.

If you're rooted just flash a rooted rom, there's a few out already.
And: post in the right section.

My bad on posting in the wrong place, im on my phone and figured someone in this section would be the first to know, I appologize. I flashed a rom already with the new ota but I want to update the radio and 4g too and I read that aside from the possibilites of having 4g connection issues via bad mac addresses the new radio will cause problems with my old hboot and once I go to the 2.10 version rooting is not possible. I was just looking for any info saying otherwise but its a bit hard on the phone app to scroll through everything. I'll just wait until someone gets the root working and then unroot via s-on ,ruu back to stock 3.29 and dl the ota via HTC software update. Thanks for the time.

I was wondering if there was such a thing as an automatic rooting application for the E4GT?
I'm getting into application development and I'm just wondering if the idea is already taken or if it's even possible(sensible).
I need to find out how to root the epic 4g touch manually, I'm assuming, to know how to program the app to root the phone in a one-click style so any links to rooting by hand are appreciated!
I wouldn't mind getting a couple of links to some application dev threads or what not.
Almost forgot to mention, I'm developing for Android 4.0.3.
TIA!

So I recently received a new or refurbished EVO from Sprint. It has the new 2.18 hboot and 5.0.....update. question is I'm willing to pay someone to root my phone using revolution method. Only if ur near the Downey, California area.
I had an old EVO that got the bootloop of death after 2years being rooted using unrevoked. I was reading that unrevoked can sometimes cause this issue. I want to use the revolution method.
Thanks for any replies.
Can't use Revolutionary to root Hboot 2.18. You have to use the HTCdev method. Info can be found here:

I didn't know the HTC dev and revolutionary was 2 different steps. Nice to know.
Another question if you or anyone else can help. There's a specific part on the video he states that if all I want is tethering and bloat removal I don't need s-off.
All I want is the Sprint stuff removed tethering and maybe add a few 3g and 4g speed tweaks. Can I do that without being s-off?
Yes. The only thing s-off offers is flashing kernels thru recovery and flashing radios pretty much.
Btw use flash image GUI for kernels if not s-off
Can be found for free here on xda

Interesting. I've flashed kernels on my current phone through recovery, and I'm still s-on. No issues, either.

Very nice. That's exactly what I wanted. Kernel with sound enhancement.
Tether and data tweaks. I always thought I had to be fully rooted with s-off for kernels to work.
Getting excited now. Last couple questions... There's other tweaks caine has for 5.07 roms(quick settings...). Can I also flash those? Or do I have to be s-off?
Last question the wireless tether app should work just by having supersu and being unlocked or do I have to tweak the system to unlock the tethering service(sprint).
Not exactly sure what you're asking in the first part of your question, but you should be fine. As for the hotspot feature, you just have to be rooted, not s-off for that to work. Most rooted ROM's for the EVO include the hotspot, although some users prefer to use one of the apps from the Play Store.

Love the roms out there, but I want to keep my phone close to stock. I noticed most roms have the hotspot added. Most say hotspot tweak or unlooked hotspot added. So I thought I needed a specific tweak. Or remove a system file.
As for the first question. A dev created or added quick settings flashable zip to the new ota Rom. I wanted to know if I can successfully flash this zip? Hopefully that makes more sense.
This is the feature I'm talking about. Calkulin made a new deodexed ota Rom and ca1ne created this feature in a flashable zip.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31007484
That should work fine. It's just a script to add some customization to the ROM.

The "simonsimons34 Wildfire S tool" that is used in that thread is not available. The service that was hosting the download file, some how messed it up or lost it or something, and the developer is having to recreate it. No time estimate on availability that I know of.
