October timeframe sounds about right. It doesn't sound like enough of an upgrade for me to worry about it, so I guess I'll skip that generation and wait for the next.

damn aluminium body <3 shame about the too big screen, though it be prob possible to port some of the stuff from it to our desires
I just read that on another site and considering I just bought my Desire online yesterday (so it isn't here yet), it wasn't be best news item to read.
I didn't really want a 4.3" screen though (especially if it's pentile...), and while the aluminium body sounds great, none of the other changes are appealing enough to me to worry about.
I know it happens all the time in the tech world. But I hate the feeling I get when something newer and shinier comes out and I can't get it. Especially when its a "better" specced model of a phone I already own.
P.S I know the phone isn't out yet and is only a rumour, but don't you guys sometimes feel the same?
Think of it as the GSM, 3G-only, version of the EVO 4G that everyone has been asking for. The aluminum body addition is nice.
4.3" too big
I like this present device enough... don't need an upgrade until things improve considerably more, which I'm not expecting till March-June 2011. The only currently outstanding issue for me is memory space.

It's not really too much of an upgrade. Better camera and in built memory. There will be better stuff to come than this for sure.
Looks like HD2 on steroids with Android. I suppose it will have LCD and if they manage to squeeze it in smaller body then HD2, but with bigger battery it would be great.
i think im gonna cry, simply better than the desire
Ah don't worry about it, it's not as if it's life and death is it.
theres always going to be something better coming out.
Get what you need, and not whats new on the streets
I was slightly underwhelmed to be honest...
Specs are great, everything is "desirable" apart from the size of the device as i personally think 4.3" screen is too big - owned the Touch HD2 but sold it for the Desire as it was too big for me, especially with a leather case

How is it better? Same processor, possibly similar RAM and most likely running Sense 2.1 or getting 2.2 at the same time as the current Desire. An aluminium body doesn't make a phone and more likely than not it will be in some sort if case anyway.
The rest of the specs are a natural evolution of things though that screen is getting close to tablet territory for me. I think the Desire is a great phone the way it is though a Hummingbird processor and PowerVR GPU would be certainly welcome.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There's not really much in the way of specs increase though, same processor means it won't have increased performance...
More onboard storage is handy, but not as essential as it was thanks to apps2SD. A bigger screen without a resolution change doesn't really interest me, the Desire seems about the right size as it is. No interest in a slightly improved camera.
Pretty underwhelming for a 'Desire HD'.
Coming from a HD2 I am not jealous it has a bigger screen lol.. Only thing that would get me jealous was if it had 4G and a faster CPU, which it doesn't. Until then, it can have a bigger screen, 720p recording and what not, I couldn't really care less lol, we have custom roms with 720p recording anyway so that one is already irrelevant. I love my Desire so much more because it doesn't take my entire hand to use and because it just works like a phone should (Unlike HD2). Anyone who is thinking "oh crap I just got my Desire" you have an awesome phone. Enjoy it and stop worrying about new versions lol (Until a sort of EVO 4G comes out here, then ill join the club haha)
What i find to be so disappointing is that they aren't upgrading the CPU! I mean cmon HTC look at what Samsung and Motorola have coming out. Not to mention the fact that the Snapdragon's GPU is pretty poor compared to samsung/moto. The earlier rumors stated that the Ace would have a dual core @ 1.5Ghz, what happened to that?!?

I really can't see any benefit whatsoever in having a CPU with those sort of specs in a phone at the moment.

Ok so I got a legend, freakin cool phone. Had the opportunity to upgrade to desire for free so of course I took it. Now don't get me wrong, of course the desire is a 'better' phone, but I cannot help but notice that build is soooo much better on the legend. Now most of you will say of course, it is aluminum, but it's not just that.
1) Probably the most annoying, the screen on the legend destroys the desire. It shouldn't on paper, but believe me it does. The pentile matrix vs no pentile matrix is abundantly clear.
2) I am terrified of dust getting under the screen because i can see the gap between the screen and phone and am constantly making sure I clear dust from it. On the legend the screen is sealed to the side of the phone.
3) Well obviously the materials aren't as nice, but I knew that would be the case in making the change so that one does not really count.
That being said, the desire is a powerful beast and I am looking forward to Froyo.
These might be interesting points to someone tossing up between the two phones. The legend was also blazingly quick, and unless you want to play the latest 3d games, it is probably fast enough for you. Still not sure if I did the right thing upgrading!
yeah i know what you mean about the pentile thing, i'm not surprised the legend screen looks better tbh
and i find the gap between the screen and body annoying as well, but theres nothing you can do lol
yea unfortunately i did not know about the pentile thing prior to changing. i am sure i would not have really noticed it i i didn't have the legend first, but dayom! the screen on the legend was crisp!
Yes I agree, legends actually a very good phone except one and only one problem which is the CPU...... it pushes legend to an edge that everyone turn to desire.
But hero and legend has actually a much better size and style which I love them so much.
Although I am using desire, lol.

HTC were so close to making literally the be all and end all of kick ass smart phones, desire components in legend body. Damn that would been sweet
Am I the only one mystified that each new HTC phone seems to be disconnected from the past models? In other words, why not the Legend II?
Not with android family at least.
You can see the touch series that htc made for windows mobile. Well, initially, only some touch models and now all their wm devices are under the name Touch.
Hopefully, there is something like that to happen to their android product line.
And I'm really looking for the gsm versions of evo 4g and incredible. N1/desire power, legend design quality without mis-register multitouch issue on popular gsm network. I don't live in the US btw.

argh! i need to figure out in the next 2 days whether i want to change back to legend. if i am not going to be playing crazy games or using google earth, do you think the desire is overkill? the main thing i would be worried about with the legend is that it will lack the support of the desire as it is not a flagship model

I have the Desire and i loved it... Never got the chance to test Legend since i compared the two and have gone to the powerfull one, but...
I really dislike the physical buttons on the Desire. It bothers me that a touch device have so many physical buttons (they can be physical, but more integrated to the design like the Legend).
Also the speaker is very poor when making calls on speakerphone (but i think this is HTC regular) and the battery cover lacks some quality...
My eyes are really stuck on Legend - it is simply fabulous! Really really beautiful and made of aluminum, but i also heard that it makes wireless power go down a bit when compared to other non aluminum.
I've bought the Desire instead of the Legend mainly because of the power vs price and the wireless thing...
My advice is that you go for the one you like the most, since they are mainly the same, but the Legend is so dawn cool and beautiful and the Desire is a powerful beast! Which serves you best?
All right, have decided to keep the desire. Although this is probably more down to laziness than an actual well thought out decision. But if I decide I really want the legend then I can always sell the desire. Might do that if legend actually gets 2.2

You won't regret it
One day you'll need that Snapdragon CPU, and rumors are FroYo may enable 720p video recording
Ok little bit of an update, just managed to get my desire side by side with my friends legend.
The colors on the legend look so washed out next to the desire! Doesn't even seem AOMED. In my memory legend screen was so much better but next to desire it did not compare.
Also legend felt pretty slow after using the desire for 2 weeks.
So in my opinion, the legend only wins out on form factor now. Glad I kept my desire, enjoying all the custom roms that are coming out!
Hi guys i know this is a boring question but...........
I have a hd2 and have no plans on changing it yet. However, my sister is now after an upgrade and pestering me to tell her what to get. She loves my phone but if she gets it i am the one who will need to spend hours/days upgrading it for her. So i told her to go with android and await the new desire hd.
BUT now it has been announced i am left rather underwhelmed. She has always had a Samsung so do you guys think there is any real benefit waiting for the new desire and probably paying a premium or is there no real advantage to this?
I know the galaxy has issues with its gps but other than the screen being smaller (it is amoled though) the rest of the specs seem pretty comparable or am i missing something here?
Sorry for the dumb question but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Samsung Galaxy S is awesome. I feel cool with Galaxy S.
Go with Samsung Galaxy S.
nothing is more advanced than htc sense , go with htc sense
The snapdragon doesn't really come close to samsungs hummingbird processor. A bit surprised HTC didn't release it with a dual core/wait till one is available. So when Samsung release the Orion CPU later this year and Qualcomm their dual cores you'll have a rather slow phone.

Anyway,go for the Desire HD dude. With the technology it's built I'm sure it will prove more than trouble for the competition!
And while being 75% sure I can tell you that it will carry Qualcomm's new chip, built with a 45nm process and more powerful graphics chip.Plus,as hoss_n2 said, nothing comes close to Sense!
Galaxy S wins a tad by hardware, but HTC wins by everything else: design, software and user experience.

As far as I know:
It's a 45nm brand new QSD8255 that sucks less power, gives off less heat, therefore has the potential to operate at faster average speeds than the older one. It also has a new integrated GPU!
And... even the old CPU (but not the GPU!) in snapdragon was FASTER than the Hummingbird's CPU...

Well, hardware-wise the Hummingbird is by far faster than the Snapdragon MSM8250, no doubt about it. Hummingbird was getting 2200-2300 quadrant while desire is stuck at ~1300. And SGS's got like 55fps on Neocore whereas Desire is barely at 27fps.
Nah, HTC was definitely not in front of Samsung for the last generation of Android phones and is just now catching up with the Desire HD. We don't even know what this phone's real power is actually, we can only speculate. Let's see the first few benchmarks when the phone goes live before saying X or Y is best.
And actually, if I had to chose a phone right now between SGS and an unknown phone (htc desire hd, performance-wise), I would definitely go with the SGS which is proven to be good.
On the user experience part, yeah, HTC Sense is good. ALso the map caching stuff looks promising even if sluggish. We'll have to see.

I have an SGS. Out of the box, it had its problems - general lag, gps problems, etc. With some (little) tinkering however, I have managed to fix the lag problems and the phone now flies. However if your sister or you feel reluctant to risk anything happening to the phone, a phone that works near-perfectly out of the box is probably for you. I can tell you that the SGS does not work at all perfectly out of the box (even though it can be fixed) but the Desire HD, from HTC's past history, will probably work very well.
Although the Desire HD's screen is bigger by .3 inches, you have to consider - is that comfortable anymore? As this article shows, bigger screens don't always mean you can see more. To me personally, my SGS's screen at 4 inches is already the maximum a screen should be without it becoming uncomfortable for general use. Of course, your sister might have large hands (who knows) and this may not be an issue for her.
If your sister enjoys watching movies on her phone, she should consider the following: a 4.3" LCD screen compared to a 4" Super-AMOLED screen. The Desire HD's screen may be larger, but the Super-AMOLED screen is simply magnificent. The colours are vibrant and beautiful, something an LCD screen cannot reproduce. To truly appreciate the greatness of a Super-AMOLED screen you have to try it for yourself.
If your sister uses the GPS often, she's probably better off getting the Desire HD. Sadly, the SGS's GPS is extremely faulty, and is increasingly unlikely to ever get fixed.
When it comes to the CPU and Graphics card etc, I cannot compare them without trying the Desire HD. However I can tell you that the SGS seems to be more than adequate for everything I've thrown at it (after applying the simple lagfix, of course).
In terms of build... Some people may not like how light the SGS is, but I love it. Besides, a simple plastic case makes it feel sturdier already. However if your sister likes the sturdiness of your HD2, she is probably better off with a Desire HD.
Of course everything here can be ignored if she prefers having a QWERTY keyboard - just get the Desire Z then!
If you need any more information on the SGS, just send me a PM.

Well, if you do your research, you might find out that Android runs faster on Desire (excluding GPU intensive task, AS I ALREADY MENTIONED). You might also realize, that Quadrant total scores are not to be trusted. You might also read a word or two, about the new Adreno 205 GPU, and the faster memory that Desire HD has.
You are entitled your opinion.
I do not feel the need to defend snap, or attack hummingbird.
Other members probably already noticed your flaming attitude, and ignorant arguments "supported" by Quadrant scores, "mistaking" CPU performace for GPU performance, "forgetting" about the Linpack results, and so on.
Have it your way, you can have your last words I quit this pointless dispute.
Long live the SgS with its faulty GPS, unoptimized JIT, "Samsung grade" development support! And long live it's lightness, great screen!
Long live Desire HD with it's yet unknown, but surely existing loads of glitches as well And long live it's superior CPU performance over the Hummingbird! And long live it's new GPU, yet to be proven worthy!!!!

Ok (i know alot of this may be speculation as it was only announced today) so are we happy that the desire will have a better processor/spec than the galaxy?
HelloH you said the desire will have the new processor which will give off less heat and demand less power? Is that definite? If so that is a huge plus for the desire. I wonder what capacity the battery will have? This could, also coupled with a less hungry processor, lead to far greater battery time?
hoss_n2 you commented on sense, and on windows it is a must, but with android is it still that relevant?
danamoult you mentioned the amoled screen and i must admit i wanted one of those. How does the screen perform in daylight? She does not require a qwerty keyboard so we are cool on that. kgk888 that is interesting that you have tried both the old desire and new galaxy. If someone offered you only one of those two phones which would you now choose? also you comment on the software/firmware are those flashable/changeable by the mods on this site? I was surprised at the weight myself when I first tried out the SGS, but now that I've gotten used to it I actually think I prefer it to carrying a heavy brick around(had a HD2 before).
The samoled screen does great in sunlight(albeit probably a little worse than the SLCD of the Desire HD, but it does a lot better in darker environments).
snapdragon is faster no doubt. galaxy s software sucks too. with community fixes its quite fine however.
the weight size samoled and camera are cool. i think theyre both cool. might take a desire due to sw support tho. ive a sgs.

Hi All,
I'm from Malaysia, here we pretty much dont have contracts, thus we are free to buy our own unlocked mobiles, albeit at retail prices.
Anyway, i've been using the hero for a year now, and am thinking of upgrading. I have narrowed it down to either a Desire, Nexus One or Samsung I9000 Galaxy.
Both the Desire and Galaxy are officially available here, but the Nexus One isn't (i'd have to go for grey imports - thus warranty becomes a problem). Leaving the nexus out, im left with the desire and galaxy, both have almost the same price, but i've been browsing the galaxy forum and it seems there are lags (with lag fixes)? Hardware wise, the galaxy is more powerful (but is it that noticeable?), but what i want is a mobile with very active and broad range of rom development, the desire wins in this case over the galaxy.
Will it be worth it and wise to get a desire now, since the desire HD is going to be released soon? I for one find the HD's screen too big for me. What i want is a phone that i would be able to use for at least a year+, and one that has active rom development (which is why i choose the hero a year back).
I've been looking at the spec sheet and the HD has only certain advantages over the Desire, namely better GPU (adreno 205 vs 200 on the desire), fab process (45nm vs 65nm for the desire) which should translate to lower power consumption but the behemoth of a display on the HD would consume more power, a better camera (8mp vs 5mp - with such small sensors, whats the difference anyways?), and slightly extra ram. Oh, and of course the screen size difference.
That being said, i'd like to know from you desire owners is it worth upgrading to a desire from a hero now? And also, whats the battery life on the stock desire?
Maybe the Desire Z is better for you?
I've recently upgraded from Hero to Desire and i can assure you it definetely worth the money. IMO Hero's hardware is insufficient to support its software, making the phone lagging most of the times. Desire's 1ghz processor + extra RAM makes the phone work fluently - almost as an iphone. Also desire has a much better camera and a much better screen in matters of brightness and resolution. Body design is also better, phone is thinner and construction sturdier. The battery life isn't as good as on the Hero (lasts 3-4 days vs 1-2 days on the Desire).

Maybe i forgot to mention that i am not looking for a phone with physical qwerty keyboard. The reason behind this: It has a slider which has mechanical moving parts and is more prone to damage. I've had too many problems with flips/sliders right from the days of Motorola Startac, my last slider being a nokia n96, which flex cable gave away twice, so i kinda have a phobia towards anything but candybars .
I also want a 'best bang for buck' device, and both the desire/galaxy s are in that category. I could only imagine the retail price of the desire hd and z when they are launched here.

I am not suggesting that the iphone is an overall better phone... it's just that motion and scrolling are better as it uses a dedicated GPU. If i was to buy a phone i would again go for the Desire. It also costs almost half the price of the iphone.

The battery life isn't as good as on the Hero (lasts 3-4 days vs 1-2 days on the Desire).

my hero is just as fast as my desire. just a easy to see in bright sunlight if not better, battery lasts longer and built much better, the only thing it cant do as well as my desire is play games .......
Hi mate, well i didn't have a hero so i can't help you out, but i had a sony xperia x10 instead and i can safely tell you the Desire is worth every penny more. Once you calibrate the battery the desire is really awesome!
The HTC Desire has been a pretty great phone for me, love the physical buttons, and the rooting scene is very very much alive.
Just wondering, will there be a phone that have the same size as the desire, but with updated internals like a dual core processor and more ram? Seems to be trend for bigger screens and any dual core phone is usually 4" and up.
What do you think?

The new samsung is so light you don't even notice the screen size difference in your pocket. Personally I would like to stick with HTC but if you were looking to buy a new phone right now nothing comes close to the samsung in terms of sexiness/thinness and lightness!
EDIT: and of course speed
I think the HTC Sensation ist the model you are looking for.
Same formfactor as Desire and Dualcore and so on.

Except massively locked bootloader, radio and kernel.

HTC have really let me down with their new locked down
Mentality. I also wanted a reasonable size dual core phone
But had to come to the realization that its never gonna happen
(someone prove me wrong and I'll eat my words) so I went for
The galaxy s2. It craps on the sensation. The free ram on that thing
Is appalling and its still choppy in the browser with a dual core.
Come on htc! What have you been doing? Not catching up thats for sure.
I would love sense 3.0 on hardware like the galaxy S2 but we can't have
Everything.

Doesn’t the Sensation have a 4.3” screen compared with the Desire’s 3.7”? I mean I’ve tried to use phones with screens 4” and bigger but it just doesn’t fit right for me....

Thats the thing really, I’m not looking for a phone right now, I can wait for another year or so. But I have always had my eye out for new phones. My 1st smartphone was the 1st gen metal iPhone, I used that since 2007 till my job required me to have a phone without a camera. I got the Desire mainly because I wanted an iPhone-like OS and that I could easily remove the camera module without damaging the rest of the phone. But I’ve fallen in love with the android OS and the amazing variety of phones there are in the market.
HTC as a company is great. I think they’re moving in the right direction. Just that their new phones have locked bootloaders and well, the rooting community is what I really love about the android platform.

Yes, and I agree - I want one with the same physical size as the desire personally...
I want a phone that's quad core, 32GB internal mem, 1GB RAM...
BUT
I want it smaller and thinner than the Desire, and have a battery that lasts a week with heavy use
Seriously, guys - it's not gonna happen. You want more features, the phone will get bigger and have crap battery life. Just enjoy what we have as this is a golden age for mobile phones
Sensation will be my next step.
The unibody is awesome and the specs are too.
I stick to HTC cause I just love their hardware and quality.

I think it's worth waiting till Q4 to change for me, love my Desire and am very keen to have physical buttons(not keyboard) on my next handset but unfortunately it looks like the top handsets will no longer have them.
I'm with the OP on this one. I love my desire, still do, but am keeping my eye out for the next desire-like phone. I suppose the htc desire s is the next logical step, but from what I've been reading, it's not that drastic of a jump and therefore not worth the upgrade. I would have to say htc dropped the ball on this one. The desire s will not reach the same popularity s it's predecessor simply because it doesn't bring enough improvements to the table. While the sensation seems to be the next flagship, the large size, insufficient ram and internal storage are deal breakers for me.

Just read about the google nexus 4g. My interest is piqued, although the "monster" screen size has me worried.

I was going to get nexus s but no led notiffication, no hd recording, less ram than desire and 4 " screen put me off , well not so much the screen but rest of features

Check out nexus 4g, google's third phone. Hopefully they remedy all the issues that were present in the nexus s

Swyped from my iPhone killer/HTC Desire
Sensation seems to be the logical next step, though gaining root access and S-OFF is a bit of a problem at the moment. Last summer when I bought my Desire, I knew I would not have to change my phone until dual cores kicked in. Well, they came a bit early I'll probably keep my Desire for a year or two more before I move on to dual cores.
I do keep hearing that dual-core processors and Sense 3.0 are not optimized, but that won't be much of a problem once the device is fully rooted and ROMs start cooking. Think of how innocent the stock Desire feels, if you ever for some reason turn back to it. We have a monster now. So, it's all up to devs to figure out a way to root Sensation. After, it's golden.
rant... Disregard...
I was thinking on buying the HTC Sensation but its too big for me...
HTC Desire S didnt evolve much... and I love HTC Desire buttons...
Ill be waiting till IceCream Sandwich!
I know its v picky, but why has HTC switched to shiny buttons for power and volume? They look so tacky. One thing I love about the Desire - it looks muted/classy, not shiny shiny.
On the S Nexus S, I was surprised how little I noticed the increased screen size, v different to the Desire HD which feels massive (there's only a .3 difference, isn't there?)

I hate those physical buttons. They were OK when I bought the phone a year ago. Now I have to press twice or press them really hard to make them work... But I don't like the touch buttons on my gf's Wildfire S as well so I'm kinda stuck...

For months I've been trying to upgrade. (At&t straight talk etc.) I was going to buy an old my touch 4g slide put it on straight talk but right now its hard to find. So the HTC one v is it worth it (cdma version) would I enjoy it more the I enjoyed my ov? Do you think more roms will be made? Tough decision seeing as I work at lil ceazers not making much lol. So big question is it a good phone?
My customized tapatalk signature
I know there's some awesome devs like jmz working in the CDMA side, but until htc releases the source it'll be slow going.
I came to the OneV from an optimus v, and i love this phone way more. Even if you look at just the hardware, it's a big step up (or at least it feels like it).
If you're planning on doing straight talk, that's GSM not CDMA. Only the virgin mobile OneV is CDMA.
Would you say its worth the upgrade then?

I was waiting for the price to go down, but I bit the bullet based on 3 things:
1. the screen! one look at the fonts and I was in love!
2. ICE CREAM SANDWICH!
3. The development! In a span of 3 months this community/devs have done a wonderful job in showcasing the future of this phone!
I don't want to come off as too negative about this phone, as it is very beautiful and I would probably buy it again. So just be aware that this post is mostly focusing on the negatives.
While single core 1ghz isn't the fastest around, it is fast enough for an android phone. In fact I noticed no significant speed difference to my 1,5ghz dualcore Sensation. And HTC even released a 600mhz phone this year, the desire C. In my experience the utility of more CPU power in android phones maxes out at around 1 ghz. More CPU power and screen real estate just means lower battery life. And the battery life on this thing is pretty much the best you're going to find in the ICS camp. With many of the big-and-fast alternatives, if you're actually using it you're not going to take that many steps away from the charger.
That being said, at the moment I'm slightly pissed off about some aspects of this phone. That's mostly because it feels like a repackaged 2010 phone. It is very pretty with the aluminum unibody and all, compared to this even new high end devices look cheap and plasticy. But you have to like the design, because it's not the most cost-effective hardware. There are a few year-old android phones around with the same hardware, that you can get used for like 100 bucks less, and most of them come with a full list of polished ICS custom roms. With the One V you pay extra for the design and for getting ICS out of the box. And that's not even of much use if you're capable of installing a custom rom.
I bit the bullet because I was running out of other options that fit my preferences. I wanted a three-button setup, and less than 4", and pretty much all alternatives in that camp seem to have some crippling flaw, like crappy battery life or nonexistent GPS capabilities or a really mirrory screen. So far I haven't noticed any flaws on the V, except for the inexplicable button and usb-plug placement, and that the front speaker is really quiet. But most importantly, since it's a new phone, and a non-high-end device, custom rom availability is only just starting to build up. For example there is still no way to get real status bar toggles, which my first smartphone from 2009 with Cyanogen 6 could do.
In the end it comes down to whether you like the design, or whether you care about raw specs more. I'm just not as interested in counting cpu cores, so it's fine for me. Don't get me wrong, it runs perfectly smooth. But it is just 400mhz up from a Legend.
If you like the nose and the aluminum unibody, and prefer a not-too-huge phone, then go for it. But if you are looking for the most price-effective hardware, then buy something used with the same capabilities. You just have to be aware that you pay extra for the fancy design here.
When I was buying I was between One V and Samsung Galaxy S advance...they were similary priced on my carrier.
I choose One V becouse of this comunity and development going on around ICS at the moment, and "S advance" is stuck on 2.3.6. without much hacks to choose.
I was wrong anyway. ICS look great but it lag on this phone like hell. Anyone buying should realy try it first. I mean my girlfriend's crappy LG optimus L3 is a ferrari compared to this. And it gets worse...HTC specification is a LIE. True specs are 2gb ROM/ 1gb user available, cca 365 mb RAM ?!?
Camera looks more like 3MP. with 5Mp mode you get only bigger sized pictures and vid's but cannot capture more detail...like upscaled 3mp camera.
ONE V specs look like leftovers from desire series with a new outer shell. If I've got 2nd chance to choose a phone I'd rather go for a used Desire series and wait for a price drop on good ICS phones simply becouse desire is snappier and One V is slooow.
Hope this helps

It's android 4.03 under that sense ui. Find someone who has older android phone 2.3.x,even a bad one, and compare. It's true that you only feel that lag in multitasking and browsing...like pinch to zoom etc...but also scroll between screens is a big delay

For me cm9, nonsense rom and even suprimo 4.1 made it respond faster but still not even comparable to 2.3.x devices
the HTC One V is a HORRIBLE PHONE! You will NOT be able to hear anyone you talk to, mine has been like this since new and all sound lvls are maxed...im forced to use the crappy loud speaker....i will never suggest a HTC phone to anyone since im locked into a 3 year with this crappy phone..
i guess it all comes from what phone you come from and your budget. i came from a huawei ascend (junk) i love this phone! My wife had a huawei ascend 2 (junk) and i got her on of these and she loves it. I am rooted and running a custom rom, she is rooted and running stock with no bloat. i am sure there are many phones out there that are better than this one, but for our carrier and budget, we can't beat it!
