Hi All.... been reading and very confused about simlocking on Orange...
Basically, I've updated to 32.37.00.32 and got simlocked (was expected) used unlock code and all work happy again... now I'm thinking of going froyo and need to go to the latest radio, my questions are...
Will I get simlocked again?
and (if) can i reuse the code I bought?
Lots of posts about this subject but nothing that seemed to match my situation.. any help / personal experiences very welcome

It might sim lock you again, but just enter your unlock code and you are good to go.
Shouldn't SIM lock you out again, just done this myself today.
Thanks for the replies guys never like to blindly flash away!

I unlocked my Desire before updating and it was still unlocked after the update, you'll be fine.

Thanks for this thread. Had the same query but did not want to create a new thread!

Dear All,
I wonder if someone can give me a definitive answer, I've read posts saying that if you want to use another vendors ROM then you have to unlock first as in the old days but I have also read that the following ROM installs straight off without unlocking.
I have downloaded the following from HTC SEA site: RUU_Artemis_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.7.707.1_4.1.13.30_02.69.90_Ship.exe and would like to install it without bricking my phone! As it is a legit ROM I'm happy to give it a go but I thought I'd check here first.
Many thanks
Alex
You still have to unlock using USPL.
The only ROM's you can flash without unlocking would be UK T-Mobile ones, because they will match your CID lock.

What phone do you have?
And anybody tried it...
Hi All
This is my first visit for years since owning an original XDA so I am not up to speed and would appreciate some expert guidance if you would be so kind.
I have just bought an HTC Desire and have several questions :-
a) it is an Orange branded HTC Desire bought of eBay which I have now unlocked but it still has all of the horrible Orange branding. I am running the current great Tesco deal (£10 pm, 500 any minutes, unlimited internet (500mb AU) so running costs will be low
I still have access to an Orange PAYG sim
Question : Can I use (Insert) the Orange SIM when (if ) Orange roll out their OTA update to Froyo to update the handset ???;
b) Question : Do Tesco operate any OTA updates and , if so, will they ignore my "Orange" HTC ?
c) Can I debrand the Orange and, if so, can I then use any HTC OTA updates ?
d) If I can do c) above, how would I go about getting the HTC update;
e) If I debrand and root the HTC, presumably it can no longer update via OTC so how would I then perform future updates:
f) I have great admiration for the makers of the various custom roms currently out for Froyo but really worried about bricking the phone so I am really regarding flashing the firmware as a last resort - if I do have to bite this bullet, can someone point me to the best "idiots guide" ?
Really sorry for the barrage of questions but I would appreciate any guidance you can give
Thanks to you all
Hi freebooter,
I have answered each of your questions below.
Question : Can I use (Insert) the Orange SIM when (if ) Orange roll out their OTA update to Froyo to update the handset ?
You shouldn't need to, the phone will look for the updates, not the sim card. When Orange release their update, it won't matter what SIM you are using.
b) Question : Do Tesco operate any OTA updates and , if so, will they ignore my "Orange" HTC ?
It will be Orange who supply your update, unless you debrand and flash a HTC or custom ROM.
c) Can I debrand the Orange and, if so, can I then use any HTC OTA updates ?
Yes, look in the development forum, and read the first few sticky posts.
d) If I can do c) above, how would I go about getting the HTC update;
The phone would notify you
e) If I debrand and root the HTC, presumably it can no longer update via OTC so how would I then perform future updates:
If you do that, you won't get the Orange update, but you should get the htc ones. Bear in kind some networks may not honourhonour your warranty if you debrand/flash a new ROM.
f) I have great admiration for the makers of the various custom roms currently out for Froyo but really worried about bricking the phone so I am really regarding flashing the firmware as a last resort - if I do have to bite this bullet, can someone point me to the best "idiots guide" ?
Again, look say the first few posts in the development forum....
I hope the answers help, please feel free to ask more if you are unsure.
Zippyioa
Thanks Zippyioa - your reply is very helpful and has given me more confidence to try to get rid of the Orange bloatware
I am still a little confused about the huge range of roms available to download and a bit nervous about trying a customsied rom so can you recommend a good up to date rom that will put me on the HTC OTA upgrade path ?
(By the way, how are things in Stratford ? I used to live just up the road in Hockley Heath)
You won't need to root if you want to intend your desire. You just need need to create a goldcard. Guides in the developers forum. You then find the unbranded ruu. Further guides are in the development section.

Thanks Ste1164
Sorry to be thick but you said "you want to intend your desire" which I don't understand
Do you mean I only need a gold card to flash a stock rom over the Orange one ?
I will read the stickies (and try to make sense of them but I am very out of touch - my last custom rom was for an original XDA !!!)
One other point, having bought and used an unlock code for my Orange handset, presumably the same code number will work if the hnadset locks up again ?
Thanks

Stratford is great, strangely we were just in Solihull so went through hockley heath to get there!
I think the last poster meant debrand not intend? Anyway, you are right about the goldcard, just make sure you put it in again if you do an OTA upgrade!
As for the unlock code, once you apply it Oranges sim lock is removed.it shouldn't come back but I would keep it just in case.
You also asked me which ROM I would suggest, I haven't tried any as I am still using the stock T-Mobile one, but Paul at MoDaCo has always made first class roms and you can choose the contents yourself in his kitchen
zippyioa
Sorry yes I meant debrand (I'm trying to use swype ) you will need a spare micro sd card for a gold card as when some ota updates arrive they will not be accepted unless you have a gold card. The unbranded rom will be instead of the orange rom. If you ever need to put the orange rom back on the phone you won't be able to as the orange ruu hasn't been leaked so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the responses
As I am not on Orange as service provider , what I really want to do is to get to as pure an HTC unbranded state in the hope that I will be able to get HTC OTA updates for Froyo and subsequents.
To be honest, custom roms are a bit scary at my level of knowledge as I don't want to brick an expensive handset (no disrespect to the clever guys who are cooking this stuff in their kitchens) so I will be looking for the most up to date HTC roms I can source.
One thing I can't figure is how HTC OTAs work as I would have thought that the service providers pump their updates out across their networks so how do unbranded handsets get updated ?
The way I understand it, it is the handset that looks for updates, based on the rom you have installed.
I currently have a t-mobile handset with a vodafone sim. I just got the t-mobile update as that is what the phone had installed on it.
zippyioa
Thanks zippyioa
So to get an update from Orange, I would have to leave it as Orange branded but , as I don't like the Orange customisations anyway, I would have to debrand it after their Froyo release ?
As this would still involve flashing a non Orange rom, am I right in thinking that I might as well find (if available) a current HTC Froyo rom and flash to that now ?
If I understand correctly, there is no benefit in waiting for Orange or am I utterly confused ?
Does anyone with an unbranded have an experience of an OTA HTC upgrade ?
Thanks
That's the way I understand it!
The only downside to debranding is that the operator warranty is usually void. I am not sure if HTC still cover it though?
The warranty isnt covered I dont think but you can check. An advantage to unbranding is that you will receive ota updates sooner and you won't have all the orange bloatware installed.

Hi, I need to unlock a T-Mobile DHD that I've just bought. I have read the previous posts on here, but I'm wondering if paying 15 Euro for a manufacturer unlock code from htccodes.com would be the least hassle way to SIM unlock my DHD?
Still not quite sure of the alternative. Which part of the process removes the SIM lock; flashing the radio? If I pay for a manufacturer code, I take it that installing a custom ROM wont enable the SIM lock back?
Sorry for the dumb questions. Thanks.
Use my radio tool (link in sig). It can SimUnlock your phone, for free
If you do the simunlock, it will stick, nothing will lock your phone again.
@jkoljo Thanks very much. I'm actually getting the phone tomorrow, so I'll give it a go and no doubt be back on here asking more questions
So the S-OFF tool sim unlock the phone in the process, or is this like a separate feature? I will be getting a Orange UK locked DHD soon!
You can choose to do Radio S-OFF, SuperCID and Sim unlock all at once, but the tool can also do just Sim Unlock.
Once you know what your doing, it takes 10 minutes max using the tools mentioned above.
SimUnlock
I want to unlock my Desire HD, but do as little 'messing-about' with the stock firmware as possible (i.e rooting, custom roms etc.). Would following your guide and just selecting 'SimUnlock' leave me with a ordinary DHD? (Except for the fact it would be unlocked haha)
Sorry if this is a silly question, I am a total newbie to this kind of thing.

Hello there,
For the past few days I have been browsing through the XDA pages but was not able to locate the necessary information. May be I was looking under the wrong terms or key words.
Anyways, I have switched from iPhone to HTC Desire HD. I got it second hand and it has no SiM card. Basically, when I insert my uSiM it shows emergency call screen only.
I was browsing through XDA and as far as I got it I first need to activate the phone with the necessary sim card in order to unlock the phone. Is there possibility to `hactivate` the phone with no original sim.
And can you people help me to locate necessary information on the site?
Thanks a ton in advance!
Peace,
Hi,
I've had a look through the threads already and couldn't find anything that would've been of any use to me.
Anyways, I'm getting a DHD from my brother soon seeing as he's getting a contract upgrade in the next month but the problem si that it's locked on 3 and i'm on T-Mobile.
So, I was wondering, is there a simple and easy way to unlock the phone myself? The Samsung Galaxy S2 has an app that will generate an unlock code for it but I couldn't find anything similar for the DHD.
Would really appreciate the help
Thanks

Hi, and welcome to XDA.
There is a tool to SimUnlock your handset, you can find it here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9524174#post9524174
However, if the handset came with Gingerbread (2.3) then there is a chance that it can jam up your HBOOT and cause booting issues. However it is recoverable, so it might be worth running the SimUnlock then restoring your handset.
Hi,
Thanks for the help, i'll give it a shot when i can. The phone came with Android 2.2 and was then upgraded to Android 2.3 when it was released. Will this affect it?
5H1R42
No, that is good. You will need to downgrade to use this tool though.
Once that is done you shouldn't have any issues. Feel free to PM me if you need further help, or just post here.
hello guys, im a happy new member of the desire community .
I have came from a Sony Ericsson Xperia x8, which i a little different in terms of modding your roms and radios... I have looked around the threads for a while now and not really found anything what answers my question, so sorry if there maybe a duplicate don't burn me if there is i have tried.
I know how to root my phone and the recovery installation as i had an old HTC wildfire what i broke but am not familiar with unlocking and flashing bootloaders hence why i need your help.
But i would like some help or answers regarding my HTC so here we go...
Well first of all the HTC is locked onto the orange network, i am currently on three so how could i get my phone unlocked... possibly free?
Also when i get my HTC unlocked if i flash things like new radios, roms, bootloaders ETC... will my phone remain unlocked or become locked again?
Also what is the first rom i should try out? I would want a fast one whats stable but maybe perhaps android 4.0 or above, can you guys give me some suggestions please thanks.
Ps: Sorry for the wall of text i want to make sure i get things right and don't brick my phone in the process of unlocking. :fingers-crossed:
Hey m8. Welcome I'm also new, but for our needs this page is the best, therefore i highly recommend to read this both threads, i flashed a custom ROM yesterday, so I'm very new in this, too xD

If you got any questions, hit me up
//Edit: If you start with Froyo 2.2.2 ( I did ), the unrevoke method won't work, i used the revolutionary method successfully.
//Edit 2: I use this ROM, it's a stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 with some nice additional Updates, its very stable and superfast. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261 thats the link of the Rom, but you can get there good informations, too
