Hello, i have rooted my desire, didn't install a custom rom yet, just rooted. But OTA update doesnt work... it downloads, restarts, starts installing and ends with the phone logo with a red question mark above it. Is this normal behaviour? After that it reboots with the update not applied...

You can't run OTA updates while rooted etc. Even if itdid work you would loose root etc.

The last two times I have tried to install the latest update (2.2 I believe) to my EVO, it has downloaded just fine but then seems to crash when it tries to do the actual install.
What I get is a screen showing the little green android next to an oblique triangle with an exclamation point in it. Everything stops at that point.
I have previously rooted the phone (no nand though) so I could install the android wireless tether, etc. Other than that though, I have not done too much with the phone. It's been running fine, so I have no idea what may be causing the new OTA update to crash.
(I've heard there have been some problems with the update and I really do want to be able to re-root the phone after the fact, if that could be a problem..so as far as that goes I'm in no hurry.)
Still, does anyone have any idea what might cause the latest update to crash? Should I perhaps manually copy it to my SD card and try running it from there?
Thanks,
JTT
You probably have a custom recovery so you can't OTA
OP,
You trying to maintain root? Then don't flash the OTA. If you are tryign to get back to stock, then run the 2.2 RUU file. That will wipe your phone and you will get stock - and NO root.
the question is how did you root the phone?....
in the end to keep root its, apply the 1.47 ota update, install unrevoked3, unrevoked forever, install stock recovery, update to 2.2 froyo, install custom recovery, install superuser app, then BAM you are rooted on 2.2

Don't take the 2.2 OTA if you want to maintain root.

i have a desire with a 1.15.405.4 software, once in a little while i get a popup saying there is an update available (i keep saying no because i want to make sure everything is backed up).
however today when i checked for an update it says that the phone is up to date. how could that be, does it beeing rooted have anything to do with it?
how can i update to 2.2?
thanx,
lidar
Root your phone and install custom rom or official rom

If you're rooted you can't update. You need to be unrooted to install an OTA. If you're already rooted just get a new ROM based on 2.2
I like to root my mobile just to use some rooted apps not to install Rom. And my doubt is if root my mobile will I stop getting update from HTC?

if you root your mobile, then i assume you'd also install a custom rom. if you then reinstall htcs update, you'll lose, rendering the whole root process pointless in the first place.
once you've installed a custom rom, wait for the custom rom developer to release the update, and then update to that instead.
i just noticed you said you wouldn't install a custom rom. but anyways, if you then update to htcs rom, you'll still lose root.
Hi guys, so I don't know how to proceed with this update... I'm a VM user and my One V has it's bootloader unlocked, is running TWRP2 recovery, and has a rooted stock rom... I tried installing the update but my phone just reboots into recovery.
You need stock recovery to do it.

Similar problem - the phone reboots into recovery (which is ok because I need to install the new update), but as I select the OTA update to install,
I get an error message. Is it just because OTA does not work with these custom ROMs?
Stuck here. Can anyone help?

OTA needs untouched stock ROM and stock recovery.

I've been trying to update my phone with this new OTA for the past 2 days but i haven't been able to. I am rooted but i flashed the stock recovery in order to install this new OTA. I download the update and I choose install now and the phone reboots but when it goes into recovery the progress bar gets to half way and then stops and shows the error screen with the phone and the exclamation point inside the red triangle. Anyone had this issue before? Is it because my bootloader is unlocked? I don't think it is because when I did the update for the battery my bootloader was unlocked and the update was succesful. Can anyone tell me why the update never finishes? I've tried several times to download the update again and try to install it again but nothing works.

Turns out I have to be unrooted haha thanks. I an having second thoughts about applying this OTA as I read that it updates hboot and makes it impossible to use the stock RUU.

I've never gone back to stock since I flashed the first custom rom, stock sucks, if you like sense try a custom sense rom, they are so much better
Stock is alright, I just went back to stock a couple days back, I had Rhythmic Rom 1.2 but I had to go back to stock cus my phone would reboot 3-5 times every day and its just annoying.
