hello,
i have a desire with a 1.15.405.4 software, once in a little while i get a popup saying there is an update available (i keep saying no because i want to make sure everything is backed up).
however today when i checked for an update it says that the phone is up to date. how could that be, does it beeing rooted have anything to do with it?
how can i update to 2.2?

Root your phone and install custom rom or official rom

If you're rooted you can't update. You need to be unrooted to install an OTA. If you're already rooted just get a new ROM based on 2.2

if you want to upgrade then yes you will loose root. it should update no matter what unless you are using a different rom or the leaked version of froyo that went out on july 31st. not to sure about the rom thing

well if you can update try going to settings > System Updates > Software Update
but i would definitely read around the site a little to see if it will work. It has been a while since i have flashed a custom rom before.

Why not just flash a rooted froyo rom? Unless u really wana go back to stock don't update to ota through system updates via settings. I would just flash one of the many froyo rooted roms on this site if I were you.

Ya either that or modify the update's hboot.img to the engineering hboot..0.76...the flash the update...finally, flash Su-e-unsecured.zip
Most roms (i am pretty sure FRESH doe) block the update using the settings update. If you go to the stock rooted rom you should be able to update or if you "unroot" first you can then go to the ota update and get official 2.2.
I will say flipz just put out his fresh 3.0 froyo based rom it is working great for me with froyo while keeping root.
it said it came out but i didnt get it i checked for updates but it says there are no updates available for your phone
Just flash a ROM from the Development forum. In fact, root first, and flash a rooted ROM.

Yes use Unrevoked 3 to root. It will install a custom recovery and the stock rom is still there but you have root permissions now.
once rooted,will you still be able to install an official OTA update from HTC onto the phone?
i've rooted my originally unlocked and unbranded desire but would like confirmation that i'll still be able to install an official OTA update from HTC when the new improved version of Froyo has been by them.Thanks
nope you won't, use one of modified rom's.

You will not be able to install an official OTA update unless you un-root. There are a no of modified Roms out there which apparently are basically rooted versions of Froyo....so if you install one of these you pretty well get your cake and eat it, i.e. you will have installed a version of Froyo which is almost OTA pristine but is rooted. I understand the neophyte Rom is one of these, as is this one:

I've recently downgraded my G2 to 2.2, but now I want to update it back to 2.3.4, but when I go to Settings> About phone and I check for system updates, it says that my system is up to date. How do I update it?
Are you rooted? Give a lil detail if you want help

hi, you won´t receive any updates that way (as long as you don´t flash the original firmware again). but there are plenty roms in the dev section which have 2.3.4 as base...

The phone is rooted and unlocked. I don't want custom roms, I want stock Tmobile 2.3.4. How do I manually update?
...if you apply the stock g2 rom you will loose root.
you can also find stock roms in the dev section (shipped rom collection)
so have a look at this custom rom (it is very close to stock & you won´t loose root):

My HTC EVO is still running 2.2 Baseband ver. 2.15.00.11.19. It's rooted with CM. I've avoided updating to the latest version of Android because I didn't want to lose root. However I think it's time to update. I'm concerned that once I update I can't put the genie back in the bottle. Would someone be kind enough to walk me through the process so I can update to the latest "rootable" version of Android and how to "reroot" (if needed) after the update?
just install the latest update . 2.3.5 then click link below in my sig to root

Just go get the update as a custom rom and load it. You can also find the updated radios out there and flash them too.
