Wifi-N and ROM v1.47.651.1 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone hack/enable wifi-n with ROM v1.47.651.1? The other hack in the forums where you remove 'nmode' twice from the bcm2349.ko file does not work.

I may be mistaken but isn't N already enabled by default for 1.47.651.1?

Yes it is.

Well ****, that explains it.

No wireless N for me
I have an EVO with 2.2 but it's not seeing my wireless N network, only my wireless G. Do I have a broken N radio, or is there something else I need to do to get N?

You do nothing, wifi n is enabled by default in Froyo.

only works with 2.4 N not 5 GHz N

[Q] Ok Guys help me out plz, tethering problem

hey guys, my phone is rooted ofc.... but I cant seem to find a tethering app that supports usb tether? its all wifi, my pc does not have a wifi card so its out of the ? unless i buy one. Id like to just use USB tethering i tried pda net but it drops connection constantly. Does anyone know an app that allows usb tethering thats for rooted phones? High speed internet is not availible in my area believe it or not lol and im paying sprint for the pam plan..... thx guys!
I think it requires a custom kernel, so there were a number of the Eclair custom Kernels/ROMs that supported it and had an app built in. The original ACS ROM comes to mind. I believe however to get it on the Froyo ROMS we need to wait for the souce and custom kernels.
Have you tried the app "pdanet"? I haven't tried it my self, but its supposed to do just that while bypassing carrier (read: sprint) blocks.
It worked great on my blackberry.

Easytether is a really good one.
Or since you're rooted, try one of the custom leaked froyo roms that has native USB tethering built-in.

Used before Wireless Tether
Does anyone know which froyo ROMS have the ability to usb tether. I use this on two computers, and wifi on a third. The lack of usb teething has kept me from going to 2.2. But with delay after delay, I think it is time to make the switch! I just need a ROM that will allow me to do what I need to do.. If I have to wait, then I guess I have to wait.
ive searched for this as well and no froyo roms will let you usb tether, im using sydicate rom it has usb and wifi tether built in also lets you 4g usb tether. i am anxiously awaiting froyo 4g tethering....

Im talking about the stock 2.1 option that pops up, i just remember when i had my tp2 the usb tether included went through sprint certification..
So if i understand the built in tethered mode when i plug the phone in the computer works as a tether option for free? Hopefully?

Well ill see if i can get the stock usb tethering to work when i get home on my laptop. I would jump to the syndicate rom, but there is way too many garbage apps in it i will never use and after using mobile ap i will never goto adhoc wireless tethering, i dont think im even going to get the official froyo until mobile ap works!!

I had nothing to do with creating this. Just thought you guys would want to know that the lastest Wifi tether has been uploaded and it's supports Infrasructure Mode on 2.2 ROMs (Including CM6)

Yep the app starts the sprint tether I think.
What did you hit to make it reboot? It did reboot once when I turned the tether off but I don't know if it's done that consistently.

Yeah, I don't think there is any way of getting around that. Small price to pay for some awesome Froyo tether
It's definitely just as fast or faster than mobile AP was.
do we still require a kernel that supports this? or has anyone gotten it to actually work. i know its an experimental build, but it didnt work for me. my lappy could see it, which is good because it cant even see ad hoc, but it failed connecting.
edit: hmmm, ya i see now its working for you. i still have old wifi tether installed, maybe thats it?
ok last time i mess with that, For heads up dont mess with any of the sprint stuff, it makes your phone reboot then makes it pop up an error when trying to connect, if you do just clear the app data and start over and it seems to work now

Worked perfectly to me and connected to my ipod touch no problem first try, and i had the old one installed, and then i uninstalled and still work,
Just a note dont mess with the sprint hotspot that pops up with it, it will just **** it up and you will have to clear data on the app or uninstall and reinstall again.

No. The app "talks" directly to the kernel. There is "something" implemented in the framework which detects that necessary kernel-setup-steps were performed.
It's not using the official hotspot-app/feature at all - only kernel-stuff (that's why it even works on CM6).

Hey thats cool, and it is faster then mobile ap, i just was streaming netflix on my ipod touch with this and it loaded at least 2-3 times faster.
Probaly faster considering this is the sprint hotspot its activating. too bad i can't use all those sprint settings lol, oh well as long as its fast works on 4g and infrastructure. YAY

Should be able to set all of the same settings in the tether APP
So this is the same as MobileAP(works on ps3)?
Is there any advantage MobileAp have over this?

Well i guess if i could unistall the sprint hotspot some how i could, avoid that, the only reason it pops up is because this app uses the official sprint hotspot stuff, as seen in the mobile ap thread, someone bought the subscription and helped this guy make this work.

Besides looking prettier and no sprint hotspot popping up with this, no this is better!!! and faster then mobile ap.
is it possibile to get rid of sprints hotspot or is it always there besides cm6?

You could try ... but I think that notivication is triggered by the "system-framework" and not by the hotspot-app. The key were some dmesg-dumps to see which parameters are passed to kernel. Since I know the bcm4329-driver a little bit it was not that hard ... but it took some time and around 70 mails to/from "formula84" (the guy who was very helpful with testing/logs).

[Q] High Latency W-Tether

Hello,
well my problem is that im having latencys of 300 - 500.
Yesterday I used the wireless tether with out a problem with 120 - 140 ms and I saw streaming series. Now the series are always buffering and latency is very high : /
Are you sure your connection isn't dropping? I've had it into the 300's range and still had no issues streaming. Are you on 3G or 4G?
No, it's not droping. And yes I'm on 3G Full bars

Done, same thing no change
At this point, all I can recommend to do is try changing your radio, or call sprint and complain of your subpar 3G speeds, cuz not much else can be done.
Well, thanks for all the help anyways
You're welcome , sorry we couldn't get it fixed though.

Xperia S WiFi N?

Hi,
I always thought the newer smartphones as the Xperia S had 300 mbits WiFi and not only the g-standard, but when I checked my router's protocol files I saw that the connection of my xperia was marked as 11g with a rate of 54. So I am wonderind if the Xperia S got 300mbits wifi or only 54mbits? Does anyone know a fix if it got WiFi-N?

because some things are not good with psa2. so in order to gaurentee all devices work they switch to g. which only needs wep. so its the router thats set to G not the phone
so if I change the encryption to wpa2 those devices will enable n ?

theoretically yes.
dunno if its a standard but i cant have wifi n with wep only psa2. ive seen it on a few routers
Thanks alot, now the devices are listed with n .
The only problem is, that the rate is lower than with g, any idea why?

[Q] Any MODs to remove tethering cap ?

Just wondering if there are any MODs that remove the tethering limit that T-Mobile gives ?
on my Nexus 5, i was able to tether over 25-30GB a month without a problem.
now im back to my 5GB limit ..
Thanks .
Im not bashing you I say to each his own but this is why they made tethering caps to begin with.

Some rules are just made to be broken, if I stream Netflix all month long , what's the difference if I buy a mini HDMI cable and connect to my TV ,.. than to simply tether. ?

Don't wanna end up with a bricked device.
No it will not work tether. They changed. It on lg g3
Most of the MODs don't work on the G3, so far, at least none that I have seen/tried so far. It has to do with the way the G3 uses the APN and IPv6 (IPv4 works, but LTE is spotty and it also breaks tether, from what I've read), ThePagel can explain is far better than I, if he so wishes.
The best way to get it to is via the app "Wifi Tehther App", which works perfectly and masks your tether use as mobile data use and not as hotspot use.
