Xperia S WiFi N? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hi,
I always thought the newer smartphones as the Xperia S had 300 mbits WiFi and not only the g-standard, but when I checked my router's protocol files I saw that the connection of my xperia was marked as 11g with a rate of 54. So I am wonderind if the Xperia S got 300mbits wifi or only 54mbits? Does anyone know a fix if it got WiFi-N?

Yup thats what I thought, too. And I am sure this is right.. But any idea why it only connects with wlan g?

because some things are not good with psa2. so in order to gaurentee all devices work they switch to g. which only needs wep. so its the router thats set to G not the phone

so if I change the encryption to wpa2 those devices will enable n ?

theoretically yes.
dunno if its a standard but i cant have wifi n with wep only psa2. ive seen it on a few routers

Thanks alot, now the devices are listed with n .
The only problem is, that the rate is lower than with g, any idea why?

I may be mistaken but isn't N already enabled by default for 1.47.651.1?

Well ****, that explains it.
No wireless N for me
I have an EVO with 2.2 but it's not seeing my wireless N network, only my wireless G. Do I have a broken N radio, or is there something else I need to do to get N?

You do nothing, wifi n is enabled by default in Froyo.
only works with 2.4 N not 5 GHz N

WiFi Problems... Soultion Needed!

Hello,
Got My HTC One X and already got some WiFi issues!
Ok basically to start things of my router is NetGear and everytime i connect my phone to the router it starts off really quick but after 20mins or so i cannot load the facebook website AT ALL websites such as Google or Youtube work fine (still a little slow) but cant connect to facebook! Its really starting to annoy me!
Please help me with a soloution! This is really frustrating and never had this problem with my HTC Desire and wondering how things can get worse?
Thanks In Advance!!

Restart your router/accesspoint.
Cant change Netmask or DNS2
Hello,
Thank you so much for the solution but how do i change the Netmask or DSN2... When i go onto advanced settings there isnt a netmask option but Network prefix length and when i go to add the forward slash to the DNS2 it removes the Save option so cannot change the settings?
Thank again for your help!
Kind Regards
Zac
I was experiencing issues with apps being able to refresh/load content on Wifi when it would work ok on mobile data.
What I did to fix this on mine was under Settings > WiFi > Advanced
Change Best Wi-Fi Performance to ON
Even though my signal was ok before it was having issues, now it does not. I haven't noticed any huge battery differences (yet)
Thanks
When you say Restart your router/accesspoint do you mean unpluging it for 10 secs or more as i have tried that on many occasions but no luck... any other ideas? Thank you again
Thank you outofmyelement i have turned this on and already working but my battery life will tell if it is ok.. Hopefully there will be an update to fix this which will let my disable this option... Thanks Again!
Kind Regards
Zac

So just to double check when you say Ip from your router... do you mean the actuall router IP or the IP of the phone?
Thanks Again! Very grateful

Yeah. If you've already done it then no need to do it again. Some routers/accesspoints have buggy firmware which means DHCP doesn't hand out IP addresses properly if it has been on for a long period of time.

changing my router's channel width from 40mhz to 20mhz fixed my wifi issues.
Thank you all for solutions you suggested.
I know assigning a fixed IP for my One X on my router would solve the problem.
The problem is, I also connect to my work's router.
And dropouts/slowdowns still exist.
My home router is Cisco LinkSys WAG120N
Anyways, HTC are aware of this bug.
Hopefully a FOTA will release to solve miscellaneous bugs including
WiFi BUg
Battery life (misplaced apk file in stock-rom)
I know people starts having FOTA with software number: 1.27 to replace the 1.26 version.
Hope it rolls soon.
Thank you all again.

At home I solved the issue by switching the router security encription type from WPA/WPA2
to WEP. No more dropouts since but still leaves the question what we do when we need to connect to a network encrypted with WPA. It's ridiculous asking around "...Pease be so kind, could you reconfigure you router settings, I've got a buggy HTC One X and need to connect...":banghead:

I haven't noticed this but every time I lock my phone WiFi turns off is there any way to stop this happening I tried the advanced WiFi setting but none seem to work on my stock hox, also I used WiFi tethering when I first got my phone thru USB teather and WiFi teather it worked fine but last night my internet was down at home so I teathered it but with no success for some reason it did not work both USB and WiFi teather failed to connect and USB was not detected on pc strangely Bluetooth wifi teather worked fine any idea what's happening?

WiFi Connection issue

My phone will not connect to my DLink router, it keeps saying Obtaining IP address and after about 1min a pop up comes up and says weak signal can't connect. but i have 3 bars on the signal meter, i'm sitting right in front of the router and it won't connect. and i have my phone set to auto connection in wifi settings.. any ideas??
this happens on LF2 and LF9 modem if that matters..
It has to be an encryption issue. Are you using wpa v2 ?

no, im using WEP 64Bit encryption.. dont know what i can change to help this issue..
forget the network, and try again, but using the WPS button method if possible
Sent front my SGS3 Epic 4GLTE Touch
I had the same problem, I did two things dont know which worked but its been working over a month for 2 phones
1. was give your phone a dedicated IP
2. was I changed the lease time to 30days
Occasionally I have to turn off and on the internet to search for my router and it works in 10secs but thats a lot better than no IP
Hope it works for you also.

I would change to wpa v2 just cuz it is more secure than wep and its more accepted with newer devices and has faster link speeds. Google your router and wpa v2 if you need further guidance.

I got it fixed and heres how.
Go to wifi, then advanced wifi, tap wifi frequency band, choose either 5 ghz only or 2.4ghz only.
When I picked 2.4 ghz it instantly connect my wifi hope this helps.

Will custom roms fix wifi disconnect issue ?

I'm not a newb and I'm pretty sure aosp roms wont have the problem. I think its pretty disgraceful for such a great phone to have these wifi disconnects. No its not the router, I have a note 2 and s2 running flawlessly and I don't want to do a store return for the same phone. Any insight would be appreciated and voiding a warranty is the least of my concerns.
Anyone out there lol
I am interested with this also. Free bump.
Btw, I got authentication error on the wifi, not sure with yours.
Tested with 4 different routers, no go. Meanwhile, my iPhone and Nexus 5 are working fine, so are all my other devices like TV, laptops, IP camera etc.

What router and router firmware do you have. Are you using kk or 4.3. Is their heavy traffic on your router channel? Also can you show a screenshot of your WiFi settings.

I have Asus RT-N66U - stock firmware because DD-WRT have issues. I also tried D-Link, Netgear and Buffalo.. all bought JUST to test this damn Wi-Fi issue. All connection to 802.11n 5Ghz and I tried every single channel out there.
I am using JB 4.3, stock, rooted. Wifi setting is:
- Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Only when pluggen in
- Always allow scanning: no
- Auto network switch: no
No heavy traffic most of the time. Issue happens whether I play Netflix or not.

You just solved all your issues. Go on the 2.5 GHz. Forget 5ghz. Test that out I bet you it works. 5ghz has less people on it it also is unstable. Very unstable. I shut mine off on my router cause of all the headaches it was causing.

Hmm.. that's bizarre. I have used 5Ghz for a long time and all my other devices (Nexus 5, Nexus 7, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S) works great with the 802.11n 5Ghz radio. No authentication error. My place is also "crowded" with all the neighbors' Wi-Fi, all 2.4 Ghz.
I will test it out, but I found 2.4Ghz is slower when say, streaming netflix. Slightly more buffering.

Ok say I went ahead and rooted and installed Jedi and still had an unstable connection issue so I tried pac-rom and confirmed no issued with wifi, went back to Jedi and was still getting wifi disconnects. After a lot of hair pulling and google search I found a xda user post in a thread (I can't remember where) were an owner of the note3 and s4 said he fixed his wifi disconnects on both phones by changing his routers band settings to g or b and not mixed g/b like it had been set on. I decided to give it a try so I switched mine from what was a b/n band to just a b band and low and behold I was able to stream a whole movie via allshare without a disconnect where as before it was about 8 minutes before a disconnect. I hope this thread helps somebody. I will report back with an update In a day or so.
